BUYER BEWARE!!!
I purchased a used Nissan Xterra from Planet Honda and worked with Chad Hicken. I have never been so disappointed in a salesman and a dealership until now. First, Chad is only interested in high-pressure sales with total disregard for customer service. I went to look at the Xterra during my lunch. Since I needed to get back to work and had limited time, and their "fair price" was a bit higher than other comparable vehicles, I left the dealership; however, I was still interested and decided I wanted a couple things inspected so I called Chad to coordinate coming by after work to take the vehicle to an independent mechanic. Chad agreed but of course gave me the line, "we have another interested party coming later so you probably want to get down here as soon as possible." I was able to leave work early and take the vehicle for an inspection. The mechanic identified some minor things which I was able to negotiate into the deal. These were very minor but items that both the mechanic and I felt should have been caught in their inspection if they even did one. From the time I left the dealership until I came to pick up the Xterra, Chad called/texted me several times to get me to commit on the car which we obviously eventually did. As we were trying to finalize the transaction, Chad rushed to get the deal put together but kept avoiding my additional questions. I finally had to get the finance guy to stop the paperwork until Chad would respond. The finance guy expressed his frustration with Chad stating that it wasn't right how Chad was handling my deal and not answering my questions as he (the finance guy) was only responsible for the paperwork. Chad assured me, with the finance guy present, that they stand behind their vehicles and would "make anything right" and work with me if there are any problems as he rushed away as if suddenly having something urgent to attend to.
Almost 30 days to the date after we purchased the Xterra, the Check Engine Light came on and I called Chad. After hours of no response, I drove to Planet Honda in case he was off for the day. As I entered the dealership, Chad walked by with someone else. I waited for a few minutes and when he walked by I stopped to talk to him. He said he remembered me and told me to take the vehicle back to their service department. They read the code for the engine light and, although it said the thermostat was malfunctioning, they didn't believe the code for some reason and stated it was a generic error code. We left the car there for a day and they called me to tell me that it was actually the thermostat and that the service department spoke with Chad and the sales manager and both refused to help in any way. I asked that, since we just bought the vehicle and they said they stand behind their cars, wouldn't they even consider a partial discount on the service. I told the service advisor that I would deal with Chad rather than vent my frustration to him. I again called Chad which, as of this review, I have still never received a call or even a text acknowledging my inquiry which has now been over a week. Their quote was very high (around $350) so I went to pick up the car and took it to Firestone, who did the service in less than 2 hours and even flushed that radiator for far less than Planet Honda quoted just for the thermostat. One last note, when I picked up the vehicle and calmly discussed my disappointment in Chad and their sales manager, the service advisor actually stated that this happens frequently and he is embarrassed by it but unfortunately cannot do anything to help as the decisions come from their sales department. I asked him to let both Chad and the sales manager know that I would never use their services again and that I will be posted reviews to warn others. He said he would share my message. read more
