It's been awhile since I've eaten here but was downtown today and there was a parking spot right in front. The restaurant is on the pricey side for basically pasta or pizza, but they do a lunch special, pasta or pizza and salad for $17.95 for lunch, so a bargain. The biggest negative I've found consistently is the service being rather slow, even when only a few tables are occupied. The food is always great - our last visit we started with dirty vodka martinis which were prepared perfectly. For dinner we had the sausage & mushroom pizza and the truffle oil. The crust was thin & crispy, the toppings were not overloaded and the truffle oil was a great addition. We started with a small garden salad which was fresh, but we would have preferred something besides oil & vinegar to top it. Our tab came to $77 including a 20% tip - in today's overpriced restaurant market, we felt it was a good value for the restaurant excellent food & service. Our server was friendly & attentive. She took our drink order and explained specials, then gave us time to enjoy our drinks before ordering. We were offered a dessert menu, but declined. What a great little spot. Full bar, live music and amazing, but overworked staff. We really enjoyed our stay, but stay we did for a long time. The flat bread appetizer was delicious and my homemade pasta was good. Next time we come I really want to try their pizza and wine flight, both of which looked to die for. I have to say what stuck with me more than the food, was how the hostess was not only seating people but also bussing tables, delivering beverages, passing on messages from tables to bar and wait staff. I'm not sure they could have stayed open without her. Our waitress was fun, kind and also training new cooks. The bartender was not only making drinks, but also delivering food bringing up dishes for the hostess from the back and checking in with the entertainment to make sure they had what they needed. Wow, it's the first word that comes to mind when I think of my meal here. Came for lunch with my husband and son, the menu offered a great selection and we wanted to try a little of everything. Ordered the Burrata, which was delicious and came with prosciutto drizzled with balsamic. It was a great way to start our meal. I ordered the carbonara, all of the ingredients tasted so fresh. Food came out quickly. Love that you can see the pizza oven from the dining area. My son had a cheese pizza and my husband ordered a pepperoni pizza. We all enjoyed our food and plan to come back sometime soon. Service was fantastic, the servers offered recommendations and provided insight with some of the options. It is so hard to believe that a wonderful restaurant like this would only serve crappy table pepper with their delicious food. That being said dinner was wonderful. We went for dinner before a show at the Washington Center. I was very happy they took reservations. We started with cocktails, shared a pasta dish, pizza, and the tiramisu. We shared the mushroom ravioli which was very flavorful and nice. The portion was good. The side salad that came before was a nice surprise. It had green mix, mushrooms, artichokes, green olives, Italian olive oil and balsamic vinegar dressing. We also shared a pizza topped with pesto that was cooked just right. We were so glad we made Saturday night reservations. Full house, and a lovely musical duo performing. I loved the concept of a red wine flight, and the pours were more generous than expected. A great way to sample their new offerings! The house dinner salad came with the pasta and was unobjectionable but underwhelming. The Arrabiatta was a little odd. It was made with fresh jalapeños which were chopped fairly large and just sautéed...they remained a little crunchy. But the flavor was lovely and the fusilli perfectly cooked. We tried two pizzas, the three meat which we all loved, and the Cinque Terre which had delicious salami and sun-dried tomatoes...if perhaps a bit too much burrata for our personal taste...but the overage was easy to remove. Desserts: yummy Affogato, great chocolate cake, and a bit disappointing Milhojas because the puff pastry layers were tough. We received tiramisu by mistake (the correct dish was cheerfully brought over). We were the beneficiaries of that error: it was the best tiramisu I've had in years! I often find it disappointing but the lady fingers were firm enough on the outside to avoid being overly soaked, yet perfectly tender inside. The overall texture was perfection, and the flavors were simultaneously distinctive and perfectly subtle. The exposed brick, open kitchen, and string lights create a super cool vibe. The pizza chef was kind enough to show my soon-to-be son-in-law how to properly size and stretch pizza dough. We were so pleased with everything be booked the back room on the spot for a small wedding dinner. Our server was super helpful with that and answered all our questions. We had the best time at Pizzeria La Gitana. From the moment we walked in, the owner greeted us personally with the most friendly energy that made us feel immediately welcome. I'd mentioned in the reservation notes that it was a date night, and he went above and beyond, taking us to the private room in the back, dimming the lights, and letting us pick our table. He even joked that he wasn't dressed nice enough to serve us and would have to go do dishes instead -- it was such a fun, memorable touch! Our server was wonderful -- attentive without hovering, and always seemed to check in at just the right times. We tried one of their wines and loved it so much we ordered a whole bottle. The food was incredible -- we customized their white pizza and it was perfection. The entire atmosphere was cozy, romantic, and just effortlessly charming. We ended up staying right until closing, finishing our wine, and our server never once made us feel rushed. UPDATE: 6/8/24: After writing to the WA State Consumer Protection Office, I received a refund for the dessert portion ( I was refused the coffee that came with the dessert- see review below the ------ lines.) The owner, Marian Licxandru, responded to the Consumer Protection Office, but never to me directly) I left my contact info with the restaurant and they have my number via their Rewards.) I also told the lady who came out when I got my order that if the restaurant was not going to give me the coffee that I ordered and the receipt literally (again see below) I would contact the Consumer Protection Office and she said "Okay." The facts here speak for themselves. "Goes with coffee $0" objectively gives that impression to customers. I am adding my original complaint to the Consumer Protection Office and the owner's response to this review. They are both public records. In decades of helping customers -and out of the hundreds of reviews I have posted here- this is the wildest response from a manager or owner. I encourage you to read the original complaint and the owner's response before considering visiting this restaurant. -------------------- On Sunday, May 12, 2024, at approximately 5:10 pm PDT, I placed an online order at Pizzeria La Gitana Of Olympia located at 501 Capitol Way S, Olympia WA 98501. Please note that the next line was copied and pasted directly from my online receipt (see photo) Chocolate Cake $9.00 Add 1x Goes with coffee +$0.00 Add 1x Chocolate Syrup +$0.00 cream and Splenda on the side - (3 creams 2 Splenda) When I got to the restaurant the waiter, who did not identify himself, told me that he "would have to charge for the coffee" even though it was listed as included with my dessert (the charge on the receipt says $0). I asked for the manager, who also did not identify herself. The manager told me that I would have to pay for the coffee. I explained that I had a receipt saying it was included with my dessert. She shrugged and said again that she would have to charge me- even after I told her about Washington State's consumer protection law. I consider this to be a deceptive business practice and that they would be losing a loyal customer. Additionally, the pizza was cold and burnt. I don't know what happened to this place between today and when I went in there a couple of weeks ago or so. Rude, deceptive, burnt, and cold pizza. They have gone way downhill in record speed. I've been a few times now and each experience has been great. I've only ever ordered pizza for dinner, but the pizza has always been really good. It's thin crust and you can taste the freshness and quality of the ingredients. Good selection of wines, was so happy to see a Tempernillo on the menu, was even happier when it was a very good one. I love that they have live music on the weekend evenings. I wish the music started a little earlier and lasted a little longer, but that's a very minor nitpick. Overall I have enjoyed all my experiences at La Gitana and I will continue to visit from time to time, as it's a bit too pricey to be a regular dinner destination, but a great place for a special night with someone or a great place for when you want a really good dinner and live music. read more

We moved here from the east coast about three years ago. I miss the pizza so bad and there isn't a pizza place in that comes close. Except here! The crust is amazing, light, crispy, salty, and buttery. It will complement any pie you select. The Italian cuisine is fair as well. Personally, I'm not into Italian food but my wife is. My husband and I started our time at Pizzeria La Gitana with a Peroni and dirty martini. We browsed the menu and decided to start with the Mediterranean salad (it comes with a side of flatbread) and then the 4 Formaggi pizza. Our salad was delivered to the table and totally hit the spot, once we finished, the order was given to the pizza chef to put our pizza in the oven. I start off saying that I am an Italian Citizen, born in Italy, and immigrated to the United States Of America about 12 years ago. The moment you walk inside, you see a magical atmosphere. I was immediately greeted by one of the server/hostess, with a great smile, and after checking in, she immediately sat me at the bar, where I had requested to be seated. I ordered a "Fornarina with tomato sauce" as appetizer, and it came out super quickly. Let me tell you, it was phenomenal, including the tomato sauce, which it tasted like in Italy. After a while, I ordered a pizza, with tuna, red onions, and Kalamata olives. When it arrived, the perfumes were super amazing and fantastic. The flavors of the thin-crust pizza were all melted with the marvelous dough, which it really looked like to be in Italy, at the exact moment. The barista, Kyle, was phenomenal as well, he was always keep checking I was doing fine, refilling me my water cup, and he confirmed with me that the flower, was specifically imported from Italy. All the staff there, including the pizzaioli, the servers, and the dishwasher/busser guy, worked super super hard, and like a very good teamwork. Moreover, on Fridays and Saturday evening, you can enjoy a stunning live Jazz music, which it all adds up the food experience at La Gitana Pizzeria. In addition, this is probably my 10th times going there, including the location in Yelm, and I live about 75 miles from Olympia, but I really don't mind driving, because I know I can always enjoy the best pizza outside Italy, and all surrounded by the historical city of Olympia, including the Capitol Building, all rich in history and the marbles from Brescia, Italy, as well. For whomever is reading this review, please visit La Gitana Pizzeria, you will not get disappointed at all (they did not pay me, nor asked me to post anything regarding their business or establishment!)
