The Mini pies are good if you want to try a few varieties-so many so little time. Ordered the big Amatriciana (the unloved pasta dish of the big Roman four as a pizza) which was recommended-Pecorino, mozzarella with the Pork cheeks taking it over the top-one of their most popular and rightfully so! On the second visit , they had the small size pies-Friarielli & Salsiccia-Broccoli Rave and sausage-tasty, Fegato & Cipolla-pork liver sausage with onions and peppers made for a "not everyday" and delicious pie. It really is a shame, because I didn't think the bigger version is worth €15 each. Nonetheless, I ordered the Burrata & Anchovies while the husband got Pepperoni. I really did enjoy the flavor and chewiness of the dough. The burrata also gave it such a nice creaminess to balance the pizza that worked perfectly. Once seated, we ordered more wine along with two Roman classics: **Cacio e Pepe and Carbonara.** The **Cacio e Pepe** was exactly what we hoped for: beautifully creamy, cheesy, and well balanced without feeling overly heavy or greasy. The pepper came through nicely, complementing the richness of the cheese rather than overpowering it. The **Carbonara** was equally impressive. The pasta had that wonderful fresh, silky texture, the sauce was rich and intensely cheesy, and the pancetta was perfectly crispy and salty. Some meals stay with you long after you've paid the check. This was one of them. Nestled just steps from the Colosseum, Ristorante Pizzeria Imperiale offers exactly what you hope to find in Rome: authentic food, warm hospitality, and a front-row seat to the beautiful chaos of everyday Italian life. I chose to dine outside, where the constant rhythm of Vespas, conversations, and people strolling the historic streets created an atmosphere that no dining room could ever replicate. The Carbonara was exceptional. Rich, creamy, and beautifully balanced without being heavy. If someone asked me what Italy tastes like, I wouldn't hand them a travel brochure--I would hand them this plate of pasta. It was comforting, simple, and unforgettable in all the ways authentic Italian food should be. With the Roman sun working overtime, dessert was an easy decision. The raspberry-vanilla gelato was the perfect ending to lunch. Bright, refreshing, and packed with flavor, it was exactly what the afternoon called for. What I'll remember just as much as the food was Federica. She welcomed every guest with genuine kindness and made me feel less like a tourist and more like I had been invited into her home for lunch. That kind of hospitality can't be taught--it comes from the heart. Before you head back out to explore Rome, don't forget the limoncello. It's the perfect farewell and one last reminder that in Italy, even the ending of a meal is meant to be enjoyed. Ristorante Pizzeria Imperiale wasn't just lunch--it was one of those moments that reminds you why you travel. The food fed my appetite, but the experience fed my soul. read more

They spoke fairly good English, but you really had to flag them down if you wanted something else. We had the carbonara which was authentic. However, the pancetta was very mushy and not crispy at all. The overall flavor was decent, but this is definitely a heavy meal with the pasta and eggs. They used a very thick tube pasta rather than a lighter spaghetti. We also had the "four corners pizza" which was also decent and allowed us to try four different flavors of pizza. It was more dough than cheese, sauce, or toppings, though. Next time we might stick with just one standard pizza. For dessert we had the "tableside tiramisu" which featured a cool tableside preparation and an overall cute presentation. This was probably the tastiest part of the meal and has a very nice coffee flavor. Overall, this was a decent meal if you are not too picky and just want an easy meal in a very touristy location.

I would never go back again…read more My friend & I were walking all day over Rome and I remembered eating at a great pizza restaurant in the area. Sadly this was not the one. We sat down at a nice outdoor table & ordered a half carafe of the house Pinot Grigio. Served at a lovely lukewarm temperature. Did not touch it and asked them to take it away only to find it on our bill at the end. Luckily when paying the cashier & informing him we did not eat any bread the charge was removed from our bill. On to the food. My friend ordered the cacio e Pepe. It didn't look too appealing & the portion size seemed small. My bucatini with mussels was excessively oily. The size of the mussel meat in the shell was very small. I will say the staff were all very pleasant & the restaurant itself is nice looking. But I won't go back.

If you don't count hole in the wall pizza places with no place to sit down that will sell you pizza…read moreslices, Pizza places in Italy are full service restaurants. You can get pizza but you can a whole range of Italian dishes as well. San Marco is a midrange pizza-and-everything-else place in Ludovisi. Ludovisi has tons of upscale expensive and worth every penny restaurants ... And tons of coffee-at-the-counter-or-at-a-sidewalk-table utility cafes. Both types of establishment are wonderful. Midrange places are harder to find. San Marco shows that the middle of the road can be a great place to be. * * * San Marco is actually two adjoining restaurants right next to each other. They get a gigantic businessmen's lunch business. (There are all sorts of banks and foundations in the neighborhood.) So at lunchtime - both sides of the establishment are packed. At night, they close the right one and only open the left one. That restaurant has a large sidewalk space and then multiple rooms one after the other inside. So even at half capacity, they can feed a lot of people. I was originally put off when in the middle of my meal, A large tour bus parked in front of the restaurant and about sixty people got out to eat. This is normally a huge red flag for me. This is one of the few cases I have found where having a tour bus business is NOT a sign of mediocrity. When I thought about it - I already knew that local businessmen who know their Italian food flock to this place in droves for lunch. And the establishment certainly has the room to feed several tour busses. The rest of the crowd around me was locals. So I turned off my "Tour-Bus-Alert-Alarm" and just enjoyed life. I got a five star meal out of it so I can't complain. * * * It doesn't matter that I had sausages and peppers. For what it is worth, I have yet to find an American style "Italian Sausage" anywhere in Rome - and I have had plenty of sausage. Maybe the fennel based sausages we get in the States are a Neapolitan or Southern Italian thing. The sausage I had was the texture of an Italian sausage but with the plain simplicity of an English banger. What differentiated it was a) an amazing char job on the sausage b) pork that was far tastier than any pork you get in a sausage in the U.S. And by that I mean pork that tastes like pig. C) really really good peppers did not hurt the dish, and fresh arugula goes a long way to counteracting the fat in your sausage. d) add charred rye bread to soak up the juices. I was a happy boy. * * * Why do I say that it doesn't matter that I had sausages and peppers? Because the menu at San Marco is absitively posolutely ginormous. It is huge. Pages and pages of pizza. Pages and pages of non-pizza. There is not a common Roman dish you can think of that is not on their menu some place. So the odds of you coming here and getting sausage and peppers is less than a jillion to one. But plenty of people like the other stuff on the menu. Frankly, I am going back to this establishment the day after I write this review because I saw a jillion other things I wanted to have. Look at the other Yelp reviews and you will see praise for many other dishes besides the sausages. Pizza gets a lot of love. * * * I found amazing things to eat all over this fantastic city. I encourage you to eat in as many different places as you can. (Write Yelp reviews about them while you are at it. Nudge. Nudge.) But if for some reason, you just had to eat at San Marco and only San Marco for your entire stay. You would not do badly. You certainly would not run out of new things to experience.

We stepped in from the heat after a full day out showing Rome to our kids. We are a party of 5 (3 adults, 2 children) And just so I dont forget, they also brought an extra bruschetta that they took back and left on a counter waiting for the next person to order. Something I also took a photo of right before we left, it was still there! 1 Penne pasta with olive oil 1 mixed salad 1 green salad 2 mozzarella and tomatoes 1 bruschetta 1 sautéed spinach 1 melon and prosciutto 2 water 2 cola We were smart enough to look at the pizzas leaving the "wood oven" they claimed.. it wasn't even in use! YOU GUYS ARE ALL SUCKERS IF YOU BELIEVE THAT Everything came out of a microwave! The spinach was frozen spinach tossed on a plate and shoved in a microwave oven.. how to you know you ask? Easy! Frozen spinach comes in "lumps/balls" fresh or cut spinach does NOT. If you sauté something in a pan, it doesn't remain a set of lumps either. These balls would barely come apart when picking at it with a fork. The mozzarella was OLD.. like REALLY old.. to the point it had dried up edges and even tasted sour.. The tomatoes were cut so long ago.. that I made a comparison with a tomato I had cut and left in the fridge back at the hotel 24 hours prior.. and my tomato had not dried up even remotely as close to what they served. The melons had gone bad and had that flavor of STAY THE F AWAY FROM ME, the prosciutto served with it, dried up and crusty from laying out and cut for too long. The Penne pasta should have been good, such a simple dish and made with dry pasta (No you gullible fool not fresh pasta) Served in a pan but the pasta comes out cold as ice and dry like a bone.. how is this possible you ask? Well again.. if you give people microwave food and throw it in a pan after.. the pan will appear to be hot but if you flip the dried up lump of pasta you'll see they even though the pan is rounded in the bottom the pasta is flat! Proving it has been warmed up on a plate before set inside the pan The mixed salad was not even washed/rinsed.. sand and even hair was found. The bruschetta you say, surely they couldn't mess that up?! Oh but they COULD, even this came straight out of a microwave oven! Mozzarella melted like rubber and wet the whole bread into a mess. The green salad, dirty. But hey at least the water and Coca Cola came out decent.. decently warm.. Which of course brings us to the staff! We counted no less than 6 servers taking care of 4 tables. Yet.. none of them had time to take care of a single table.. talking among each other and smoking.. Isn't it strange it took almost 38 minutes to get the other order of tomato and mozzarella salad even though they were ordered by the same table? Isn't it strange that the food that comes out is almost as old as Rome itself? We ended up sending ALL of our plates back.. not a single person wonders why or can we help or can we bring something else.. They even try to upscale and charge us for things we don't have. When complaining we have to wait an additional 30Minutes for the fat "manager" to get to the register and refuse us us. This places serves dangerous food to people and endangers their health by doing so. Serving old mozzarella cheese or bad melons is a great way to get exactly what we got.. food poisoning and this is without eating more than a fork or two each. The manager threatens us with violence, police and with bad language.. Any tour that stops by this place gets a cut by doing so that's something I'm Ready to bet money on!
