After giving it another chance, I went there in person with the family. While we made sure just to get the extra thin, it was actually really good. The pizza sauce had some great flavor. I also liked the boneless wings and cheese curds. The garlic knots are still not great. I will say the service was pretty outstanding. They were awesome with my nephews. Good, solid Detroit style (aka Sicilian) pizza, with a thick, flacky crust, cut in squares. We had ours with sausage, mushrooms, and garlic, which were great choices. Service was slow to receive the pizza, but they checked in on us regularly, keeping us updated on the status. Overall it took a little over an hour for our food to be served. The dining room wasn't busy, but they had a lot of counter pickups for carry-out, so maybe they took priority? We weren't sure. Good selection of drinks in the soda fountain, and wait staff was young but very hard working, efficient, and pleasant. The Panzerotti was a bit doughy and its contents inside could have been filled up a bit more, but other than that both entrees were very tasty. We went to pizza boy last Sunday and it was the first time for my family. BBQ Boneless Wings, Garlic Knots and cheese curds to start out our lunch. For lunch main meal we had thin crust cheese pizza and a thin half sausage half pepperoni pizza. All the staters were very flavorful and well prepared. The BBQ Boneless Wings was the one that left the longest impression on all of us. Just the perfect amount of sauce and a great crunch. The cheese curds for myself was the big surprise. Little nuggets of bitesize cheese that I could not stop eating. The garlic knots while good in their own merit were to me a bit tough and overly oily. I suggest giving all of these starters a taste and you will not regret it for on moment. The pizza was the next to come out of the kitchen. This pizza was nice and crispy with a sauce the had the perfect sweetness to compliment the salty sausage and cheese. All pizzas were well prepared and a good size for my group. One regret is that I didn't get to try the Detroit style pizza that they are said to be known for making. This just means I get to go to this great restaurant again to complete the entire gastro experience. read more

I thought this was pretty decent pizza. It wasn't everybody's opinion in my group - but I did enjoy it. Hawaiian (don't you judge me) thin crust. Base was just right crispy/soft mixture, sauce was ok (could use juuuuuust a touch more salt - but that can be added to personal taste). Service was good. Cheerful and friendly. They have whole pizzas - some of the usual suspects and some a little more adventurous. And pizza by the slice. I am gonna go back and work my way through the menu. Summary :- I liked it... but others didn't... so I can't resoundingly recommend it. But I am going to keep going there. read more

I was excited to try this new restaurant and it delivered! I ordered a sausage pizza thin crust which is my usual pizza order from other places. The dough is very good - the perfect amount of thin and crisp. The pizza sauce is delicious, not too sweet and adds flavor. The sausage was very good also. All in all, they cooked a very good pizza! I'll definitely order from here again. The menu is huge! They delivered on time and their delivery person was pleasant, calling ahead and dropped my food to the door. Most new restaurants have to figure out a few things after they first open but I think this one has the important things right... good food and good service. read more

Pizza boy has been in Edison park for a while now and this is the first time we tried it, and not because we're were not curious. My wife is a huge Detroit style fan, so we figured we give it a go. We ordered a basil and tomato Detroit and a thin crust pepperoni and green pepper so that we got a taste of both and ordered a garlic knots too. I'll start with the Detroit style, it was not good. It was a lot of dough, and I know that's its supposed to be thicker but this was different. It tasted like focaccia and had a very strong olive oil taste but it was not pleasant. The thin crust however was very good. The crust was really crispy and thin and held up to the sauce and toppings. It had good flavor and was cooked well. The garlic knots were okay. There were only 3 in an order and they were small. The taste was good, good but not worth the $5 price for me. We picked it up, but the food was hot and fresh when we got home. I would order the thin crust again, but not sure if I would give the other stuff a second chance especially with places in the area that are also pretty solid. read more

They have several types of pizza which are displayed in the front. I'm a thin crust sausage and onion. I love the crispy crust and sauce. They're not stingy with the toppings and their Italian sausage is fantastic. My friends also did thin crust with chicken fresh garlic and? My friend bought but prices are fair. I haven't had a bad slice yet. My favorite slices are when they do the Detroit style, but any slice that isn't the ordinary pepperoni or sausage is the way to go, especially if it has the burrata on it! Staff is always nice and quick to bring your order up. read more

Stopped in for lunch with my mom. Place is on the corner right in the heart of Edison Park. We ate in, was a solid sit down place. Nothing to fancy. Staff was friendly. Mom had the white slice and said it was good. I have the deep fried calzone, which most places will only bake now a days. It was great! Nice and crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. This review is way overdue, as I was eagerly awaiting their opening way back in the spring. For pizza alone, it is worthwhile. Just for pizza though. It's terrific that they have both thin and Detroit-style slices available. Two of the latter will set you back about $13 but it's a hell of a lunch. They usually have about three or four Detroit options in the case. Stuffed and thin pizzas are really good, but the Detroit is their best. Barbecue chicken and Pizzaboy style are my favorites so far. I also loved the big panzerotti (known elsewhere as a calzone). Both the Detroit style and the panzerotti could use a little more sauce. Major beefs: 1.) Most of their other food is not good. I like the garbage salad, but everything else I've tried (some fried apps, the italian sausage) I would not get again. The calamari was horrible. It looked and tasted double-fried, with dry, tough coating tasting of stale oil and calamari rings that chewed like 1950s rubber bands. 2.) Their packaging is bewildering. Most pizzas come on a flat cardboard circle inside a stapled paper bag. No box. This makes the transport a bit precarious and does not hold in heat very well. Detroit pizza does come in a box; however, the top of the box smooshed into the top of our pizza. When I opened the box, the cheese and toppings from the center one-third of the pizza stuck to the inside of the lid. They need taller boxes for the Detroit style and boxes in general for everything else. On the strength of the Detroit slices alone, this joint is now in the regular lunch rotation; my family occasionally gets it for Sunday night dinner as well. I'm happy to leave it at that. read more

My wife and I came here for lunch. We ordered a slice of Detroit pizza, and she ordered a slice of tomato basil. We noticed they had hot poppers and calamari, so of course we had to order it. The poppers and calamari came out, and we were very disappointed. The poppers were just ok, but the calamari had a very strong fish tazte qnd and smell. Of course, I expected a smell, but I've had calamari before, and this calamari smelled and tasted like bad squid. I reported it to the waitress, and she said, "Well, it's supposed to smell like fish." We left the entire uneaten plate of calamari on the table. After that, we finished our pizza and left. I'm sure there are some people who think that Pizzaboy is just popular because of TLC and the show Smothered....well I'm here to tell you that they are the REAL DEAL!! I've been to many restaurants over the years and you can tell from the moment you walk in the door who is genuine and who isn't. This was my first time dining here and I have to say that it was quite an enjoyable experience. The food is definitely delicious with generous portion sizes and prices that can't be beat. I had the chicken fingers and fries while my daughter had the bbq boneless wings and mozzarella sticks. We got so much deliciousness that we were able to take enough home for another meal!! :) They have plenty of custom pizzas to make your mouth water and want to try them all....that will be our next conquest when we return for another visit!!
