The owner can come off as a jerk but you don't go here for atmosphere u go here to get the best pizza you will ever have. Don't listen to the other reviews try it and you will see. I've eaten here for 45 years. Simply the best pizza in mid Michigan. It looks the same as it did 45 years ago but the pizza is still the best. The pepperoni has a little kick and the Italian sausage is superior. Add some oregano and you have the best pizza. Take out is awesome. read more

I've been coming here for 32 years- it's a staple for my entire family. Even though I've moved states- my parents pick up a pie whenever I come back to the area. Hands down my favorite pizza ever. We generally have the (extra) pepperoni pizza. From the crispy (and thin) crust to the fresh pepperoni and special sauce- I've never found another pizza that compares. In 32 years I've never had anything but the pepperoni pizza- but I'm sure the extensive menu has several other yummy dishes. read more

Pizza Sam Special, no green onion, no anchovies. Bring it on! Sam's is an Alma tradition. It's not fancy, but it's a great place to meet friends and family for delicious pizza. Really good non-chain pizza; something different. Order the crust well done though or it'll get doughy and floury. Real cheese, not greasy, lots of oregano in the sauce. The crust tastes very 'real' and has an authentic crispy/chewy texture. Don't go here for the atmosphere though. It hasn't been updated since 196?. The way Sam treats his employees is fairly atrocious, so tip well if you eat in. Takeout is the way to go. read more

Pizza Sam's is fantastic. I had it my first time in 1986 as a Freshman at the college and make it a point to go back whenever I can. You could say their sauce makes the pizza, with the big pieces of herbs visible, but that would take away from the healthy portions of toppings, perfectly baked crust, and of course the spices and ranch dressing on the side. Let me start off by saying if I could rate with zero stars I would.The pizza is good for the most part. And only takes about 10 mins. :) but here comes the bad. We went in there and ordered food to eat there and we asked some cheese on the side for our three-year-old son and they tried to refuse us because the owner and his staff rules I guess. The decor needs a serious serious update wood paneling just not doing it for today's market. The owner and his wife are usually friendly and say hi to everybody but I have seen the owner jump down his staff for common simple little mistakes which should not be done in front of customers. I also feel every time I've been in there and seen his wife in there she just kind of stands around as does he as the staff try to fight around them to get things done in a timely manner. This is probably one of the only places I'll enjoy their pepperoni on the pizza. But again this place needs a serious upgrade and the owner and his wife should probably step aside considering they're almost 90 and very rude at times. But seriously upgrade this plays the benches for the booths feel like there for straight from the 60s maybe older and the walls with that cheap paneling just need to go. read more

the pizza is programed into my taste buds like my mother's cooking..ham yum...hand cut sausage...quite mild sauce and the toppings do all the talking...i laugh when people talk about sam not being the most friendly..like its brand new..sam is cool..just expect grumpy....the slices come in all sorts of sizes...great for cherry picking the biggest pieces....i was there when a guy got carted out on a stretcher ...then they installed the emergency door....when i was little i use to tug on the handles to the cigarette machine bc they made a cool sound..best pizza EVER....moved out of town and cant find a pizza to make me happy... read more

If you want a unique, non-generic, pizza experience in Mid-Michigan - this is the place. It has been unchanged since the 50s and is a throwback to a time when each pizza place actually tasted different. Locals adore this pizza. Some have had it shipped across country. For newcomers it can be an acquired taste. Many find the sauce too sweet. The meats are undeniably great. It's the only pizza place where I ever order ham because it is sooo good. read more

Great pizza, be sure to ask for spices and garlic salt on the side in you carry out, for they can be a little sparing on the spices. The older owner reminds me of my grandma, she can be sweet, but stay on her good side. Pasta was good. read more

I drive to Pizza Sam's from Lansing because their Pizza is my favorite and the best I have had in my 24 years. However, I am always less than impressed with Pizza Sam's staff. They aren't very friendly or sociable and they are often a bit rude. If the pizza was not delicious I would not return. read more

On past visits, the pizza has been good, but on our most recent visit we ordered other menu items. I wanted fish, but not a "carb loaded" meal, but the only choice for fish was a fish dinner with several pieces of deep fried breaded fish, potato, bread & butter, & salad. Tons of fat & calories & carbs. Since no choice for broiled, nor a smaller senior size meal, nor kids size meal, tried to buy a single piece of fish and a salad to go with it. They refused to sell me that. So then I just ordered a large salad. What a farce. A pile of lettuce with 4 chunks of tomato. Course I could have gotten a combo salad with olives & pepperoncini in it - come on, how about some regular salad items like mixed greens, carrot shreds, cuke slices, sprinkle of cheese. They did not have a good selection of dressings, no honey mustard, no raspberry vinaigrette. Boyfriend got a ravioli/spaghetti combo plate, which he said was all right, but nothing special. With all the other great eateries in Alma, we'll probably spend our money elsewhere next time. read more
