So in a word, YES!! I've lived in Colorado for almost 2 years (transplant from NYC) and this is the first place I've been to that claims to be NY-Style Pizza that actually IS! The service is spot on. The wait staff was very attentive and super friendly and they seem to enjoy working with one another. The place is clean and very much resembles a NY pizzeria. Go here for authentic-tasting New York pizza. So good! I got a cheese and onion and my husband got the meat lovers. We tried the tiramisu and raspberry cheesecake. Having lived for 7 years in Brooklyn, NY and tried every well known pizza spot in NYC I am happy to say that this pizza is on par with the best I've ever had. It has the traditional NYC style flavor profile but with the delicate constitution of a Neapolitan style pizza. The dough actually tastes developed and has the tell-tale char marks on the bottom. Best pizza in Colorado!! My family is from New Jersey and I grew up eating amazing New York style pizza, and Pizza Rio is the closest pizza to East Coast pizza that I have had in Colorado. The crust is SUPER thin and the flavor of the sauce and the cheese is amazing. I definitely recommend the Zoom Flume, it was SO good! And the Winner Winner Chicken Dinner was also delicious. We moved to Colorado from the Chicago area 8 years ago, and we've been searching for a great Italian beef sandwich, similar to Al's, Buona or Portillo's. Went on a Wednesday afternoon in July and they were busy! The 20" New York style cheese pie was as close to east coast pie as you'll find in Salida. It was tasty and reasonably priced. Staff were harried and we weren't really waited on a whole bunch but I got the sense they were really understaffed. A local friend said this was really good and I had been wanting to try it. Place has a decent vibe with a patio that overlooks the river. But it's really all about the pizza. Figured we'd try the breadsticks as an app. Bad decision. Toughest breadsticks I've ever had, hands down. Literally have to pull and rip a bite, then give your jaws a good workout to chew up. It's crazy because they look amazing and taste pretty good with minced garlic and butter/salt I guess, but tough as nails. Immediate thought was "lord don't let the pizza crust be like this". My prayer was not answered. Got the large Rio Grande, which is ham, pep, Ital. saus, and sliced meatballs. Saw it coming from across the room and was salivating, (as I had just smoked a bowl a little earlier) envisioning a loaded meat lover's delight as you would normally get at a pizza joint. She sat it down on the stand and I was like "who stole the meat!" Skimpiest 4 meat pizza I'd ever seen, made worse by the fact that the sliced meatballs were awful. Add to that the crust was similar to cardboard. First NY style I'd ever had where when you picked up a slice it stuck straight out, fully erect:) Since I had the munchies and paid a decent amount I was determined to chew my way through it and choke it down, which I managed to mostly do as the overall taste wasn't bad, much like the garlic bread. The other meats and cheese were fine and what little sauce there was was okay too. The edge of the crust unfortunately was huge so you only get about 3/4 of a piece before getting to the completely inedible part. ZERO chance I would ever go back for their food. Waitress and staff were friendly though so would prob go back for a beer on the deck while watching rafters, either before or after eating somewhere else. And just so you know I'm not very picky about pizza, as I would easily put Tony's, Red Baron, DiGiorno, Domino's, Pizza Hut, or basically ANY other pizza I've ever had ahead of theirs simply due to the crust. Sorry guys but that was just ridiculous. Would have sent it all back and refused to pay under normal circumstances but had to take one for the team due to other factors. read more

We had started out with their garlic bread as an appetizer and it melted in your mouth combined with the pesto and Mariana that accompanies it. Their Margherita pizza and the Rio Grande was to die for a true New York style pizza! The were able to make it with their gluten free crust. Which I greatly appreciated! I had the worst experience! They lost our order or forgot to place the order! Not a busy day! After about an hour a confused waitress approached and asked if we had placed an order, we told her yes and pointed out who took it. She said she would check on the order and didn't come back. 10 minutes later I approached her to ask what was going on, she made it sound like our order was next, they had just put it in the oven. At this point she brought us a cold pizza in a to go box! It has been 1.5 hours!!! I went to pay and asked if the young woman taking my money was the manager(yes). I asked if she knew about the issues we had with our order, she said as she was taking my money " if you got your pizza there is no issue!!!". The manager at this establishment wouldn't even acknowledge what had happened! It was clear that we had something go wrong and she made this experience worse! Never again would I go here! read more

Visiting Salida, Colorado. We had a large party. Half of our group arrived and ordered pizzas and beers. They also ordered for the second half. I was in second half and ordered a beer, everyone else ordered water. We started eating the pizzas ordered by the first half. The waiter , who seemed to be having a bad day, asked the first half if they wanted anything else. They ordered more beer. Soon after he delivered the beers he slammed his hand on the table, got in a female's face and said you all need to leave, you've exceeded your time limit and you need to go. They paid their +$200 00 bill and came over to us. The manager, Ray, was even worse and told my son to get the fuck out. This restaurant has no guest service expertise. They are rude, the food was mediocre and management didn't care that others around us agreed the waiter was out of line, a behavior the manager, Ray, condones, supports and obviously, teaches. By the way, no one was waiting for our tables and there were plenty of other empty tables. When my son came and told us the first group had to leave, we all got up to leave too, and I left my beer unfinished. Here's another example of Ray's guest service teaching. I went to pay my waitress and charming Ray said yes, you do need to pay for your beer. The waitress told me $6, as I was talking to her, another waitress interrupted. I asked her to be quiet, she yelled at me to not tell her to be quiet, ripped my $20 bill out of my hand. I told my waitress to just give me $10 in change, leaving her a $4 tip, she was very nice. The other waitress said we don't your money, I again offered it to my nice waitress. She was bullied to not accept the tip. We will never go to any of Ray's restaurants until he learns the value of customers. I highly recommend you stay away from Pizza Rio in Salida, Colorado! read more

Quite disappointed in this restaurant. Completely understand being short staffed and have full sympathy for that. But I had ordered 2 things off their menu and both items came out wrong. I ordered a Caesar salad and the other was a margarita pizza. When it was brought out I was given a house salad and on the margarita pizza one of the main ingredients is basil but there was no basil on the pizza.
