We live out of state and have returned to this spot 3 times! Zef our server hit it out of the ballpark last summer with his own special margarita recipe and his warm, welcoming vibe! This time around we received great food and drink recommendations. I'm pescatarian so judge Mexican restaurants by their refried beans, salsa and margaritas- 3 out of 3 here! We ate here last time while visiting Salida, on a recommendation from the Mountain Goat Lodge. We opted to sit on the tiny but quaint patio as weather was ideal. We ordered margaritas (of course) and they brought chips and salsa along with the Mexican cabbage-slaw, which is my favorite and not many Mexican restaurants have it. My husband and I had dinner here after a long day of traveling. We were greeted by a polite young man who explained this was his mom and dad's restaurant and he works there too. We were seated and greeted warmly by the owner and mom. She immediately brought us chips, homemade salsa and a Mexican slaw. I ordered the pollo mole , and my husband ordered chicken enchiladas. Both meals were amazing and filled with flavorful spices. The mole sauce was the best I've ever had! My dish came with rice, refried brand, and a small salad. The portion was so generous that my to go portion was my dinner the following night. Same with my husband's enchiladas. I also had a skinny margarita that was delicious and large serving. Finally, the decor and artwork throughout the restaurant is beautiful and adds to the delightful atmosphere. On a busy weekend we were able to get seated quickly. The menu is fairly comprehensive without being huge. Our server was great, especially when he had to explain that they couldn't take credit cards, due to an internet issue (which was affecting all of town). We were hesitant at first but as soon as we entered we saw a burst of colors and beautiful Mexican art and designed tables. We were sat pretty quickly and welcomed with a delicious bowl tortilla chips, salsa, and Mexican coleslaw! I could not get enough of them! I had two bowls and wanted another one but I had to make room for my meal! I appreciated that the menu had a variety of options for every budget.The kids' options were also reasonably priced and pretty big. I personally went with the seafood chimichanga and it was huge and delicious. I was so full but I could not put my fork down. That is how you know it's the bomb.com! The rice was mushy and seemed more like Chinese than Mexican. The two redeeming aspects for Las Camelinas was our waiter, and the taco bowl that I assume was store bought. I gave this place three tries and each time it was a waste of money. I get very suspicious when all the food on my plate is brown. You can practically taste the can opener for the sauces. The biggest combo included a choice of 3 from the list of burrito, taco, chimi, enchelada, and various other Mexican delicacies, and each one had a choice of meat. Mix and match! Love it. The plates of food were huge because the combos came with rice and beans. Delicious across the board. The meat taste like it was slow cooked and the veggies fresh as can be. The tortillas also tasted homemade, but maybe that's just because we were hungry. The carne asada was tender and flavorful. The margheritas were just Ok.
