Are here 2-3 yrs ago on a December wknd in Salida. Was driving through Salida today and knew where I wanted to eat - Tacos El Tapatio. Came in on Wed at lunch, not overly crowded & seated right away. Guy up front was serving the tables, answering phone orders, & handling take out by front register. He was very busy, but his svc level was pretty good given the situation. I ordered the veggie enchiladas. I think he told the kitchen veg burrito, but it was tasty so nbd. (It was one 'enchilada', very large and overstuffed as enchiladas go. Lol. Pic attached.) The salsa of the chips & salsa pre meal definitely had a kick to it, but flavorful. If you don't like spicy salsa, be aware at least. Enjoyed the veg dish, and accompanying rice and black beans. Flavor was good in all. I remembered enjoying the food a few yrs ago, and the food is still tasty here. And a robust menu in a small town, too.

Complimentary chips in salsa in Colorado?!! It's seriously unheard of by us in Gunnison & Crested butte. Well, they were good too...We had a house marg & mango margarita, I think the house was stronger than the mango & it was good, not artificial tasting. Not pictured: my husband had combo fajitas & I had the asada bowl. The fajitas were large, well seasoned but a little over cooked. My asada bowl was really good but if I could chose a different meat I would, it was pretty gristly. We sat at a patio outside, it's covered & the weather was beautiful! Service was quick & everyone was very nice. We will definitely come back.

While in Salida, my boyfriend and I wanted to stop and get some breakfast so he opted for McDonald's and I of course came to Yelp for restaurant recommendations. I found Tacos El Tapatio on the top of my list and with an online ordering option! Their house breakfast burrito caught my eye, a huge flour tortilla stuffed with everything delicious. Bacon, egg, cheese, hashbrowns, smothered in gravy and their delicious chile sauce. Wow. I also got an order of Diablo potatoes. It was fantastic, cube potatoes with cheese, chile sauce and bacon. Where can you go wrong? This was a delicious stop on our trip. Easy ordering system too! We got our food and stopped by a little park to eat. This whole town has amazing views of the mountains. Burritos and views - what more can I ask for?

Very happy with food, service and loved that everyone was Hispanic in a Mexican restaurant. Seemed authentic. Will definitely go back.

Nestled among the peaks of the Sawatch Range, where tumbleweeds might theoretically roll if they weren't caught in the spokes of a passing bicycle, sits an establishment of peculiar perfection: The Biker & The Baker. My compass has unerringly pointed to their door every single time I visit Salida over the past five years. It is a tradition forged in sugar and chain grease, where the rugged American West meets the precision of French pastry. Pairing high-desert riding with artisanal baking seems like a recipe for a pile-up, but the execution here is a sweet ride. You will find aerodynamic cyclists sitting elbow-to-elbow with flannel-draped modern prospectors, united by a singular quest for butter. The Biker handles the gears, the Baker handles the tiers. They aren't just coasting on charm; they are pedaling toward culinary triumph, baking up a storm that rivals the monsoons over the Arkansas River. The confections are miniature monuments to indulgence. I have routinely panned for gold in this valley, but the true motherlode is their lemon tart--a symmetrical marvel of citrus striking like a high-noon sun. Their charcuterie boards are arranged with the geometric exactitude of a surveyor mapping a railroad. Whether you are gearing up to summit Mount Shavano or recovering from a grueling promenade, this sanctuary provides the requisite fuel. It is the exceedingly charming destination itself.

Pulled into the parking lot and electric vehicle chargers were like towers of hope for the power-deprived traveler. The menu looked limited. Was there for lunch. Breakfast menu looks extensive and good. Ordered a burger and turkey club and iced tea. Overall it's great. There were so many people with dogs or multiple dogs that sitting peacefully in the exterior seating area wasn't that peaceful as bickering alpha dogs tried to act dominant by whelping and arguing with each other. Wasn't a fan of the barking and screeching and loudness that lasted the entirety of the meal while observing the dog owners either oblivious to the mayhem or ignoring it while swiping on their janky iPhones. I won't dock points in this review due to the dog drama. It is what it is. Salida is a wicked dog-friendly town. I will return for breakfast. You should also. You'll be glad you did.

The breakfast menu has many items to choose from. Food was good. Typical fare for breakfast with some twists. Husband had 2 egg breakfast- all good. I had biscuits and sausage gravy and eggs but the sausage was green chile and the biscuits were cheddar-garlic. I didn't love this twist, honestly- cheddar biscuits yes but the garlic was not great for a breakfast dish. (I think my mind registered the biscuits as cheddar-chile when I read the menu- those would have been better with sausage gravy.). I will have the pancakes or French toast next time! But otherwise, great fresh food that comes out hot and nice people.

We come up every other weekend to visit family, and this is a place we keep coming back to. The sandwiches are really good and consistently high quality every time. The menu has a ton of options--it can feel a little overwhelming at first--but honestly, you can't go wrong. We've tried quite a few, and every single one has been great in its own way. Pro tip: during the summer, the line can wrap around the block. If you don't want to wait 30-40 minutes, ordering online is definitely the move. Also, don't skip their bars--they're absolutely amazing. Perfect to grab for later if you're heading out on a hike, or just enjoy it right there. Highly recommend grabbing a sandwich and taking it down to the river--that's honestly the best part of the whole experience.
