To start, we showed up at closing time with a party of 6. We asked if they would serve us, and they graciously said yes! The staff was extremely kind and took our drink order. We decided to buy a round for the house since they were nice enough to feed us at closing. We ordered a pitcher of their Tapatio margaritas. They came out quickly and were delicious. After a few minutes of looking at their large menu, we made our selections, and not long after, our food came out. Everything was soo good. I snapped a few photos. Are here 2-3 yrs ago on a December wknd in Salida. Was driving through Salida today and knew where I wanted to eat - Tacos El Tapatio. Came in on Wed at lunch, not overly crowded & seated right away. Guy up front was serving the tables, answering phone orders, & handling take out by front register. He was very busy, but his svc level was pretty good given the situation. I ordered the veggie enchiladas. I think he told the kitchen veg burrito, but it was tasty so nbd. (It was one 'enchilada', very large and overstuffed as enchiladas go. Lol. Pic attached.) The salsa of the chips & salsa pre meal definitely had a kick to it, but flavorful. If you don't like spicy salsa, be aware at least. Enjoyed the veg dish, and accompanying rice and black beans. Flavor was good in all. I remembered enjoying the food a few yrs ago, and the food is still tasty here. And a robust menu in a small town, too. read more

Complimentary chips in salsa in Colorado?!! It's seriously unheard of by us in Gunnison & Crested butte. Well, they were good too...We had a house marg & mango margarita, I think the house was stronger than the mango & it was good, not artificial tasting. Not pictured: my husband had combo fajitas & I had the asada bowl. The fajitas were large, well seasoned but a little over cooked. My asada bowl was really good but if I could chose a different meat I would, it was pretty gristly. We sat at a patio outside, it's covered & the weather was beautiful! Chips and salsa were great. The salsa had a bit of a kick which I appreciate. The husband and I both went with basic combinations. I got a chicken taco and spinach enchilada. The taco nothing special, I prefer soft and that wasn't an option. The enchilada on the other hand was good, typically most use a white sauce with spinach but they didn't. Also really loved the Spanish rice, nice and light. The husband had a beef taco and cheese enchilada. Again the taco wasn't anything special and the enchilada was good thanks to their sauce. We were looking for a place with a patio due to having our dogs with us. This place has a patio on the street but doesn't allow dogs. We made it work thank goodness as the weather was cool enough to keep them in the car and we were right by our vehicle. read more

Okay, this place is so cute. The vibes are great, the people working there were super friendly, and the service was on point. I got the shredded beef supreme taco and I'm not even kidding--probably the best one I've ever had. Perfect flavor, super tender, and their salsas are the bomb dot com. Stopped here on my way back home in the Denver Metro area. Was by myself and just looking for a good local place. This showed up because of the good reviews. I had to ask if I could just sit anywhere, but it was confirmed I could. Once I did the service was quick. The chips and salsa were great and good portions of both. Nice spice to the salsa. I ordered the Tapatio Burrito with the green chili (shredded chicken) and it was delicious. I was quite hungry after a long drive (with still hours to go) but it was really quite tasty. I did have to wait a bit for the check as I think my waitress went on a break, but someone else noticed me waiting and took care of me. Very underwhelmed after seeing the reviews. Went on a Friday night, and they were busy, which is to be expected. Though nobody seemed interested in acknowledging us as we waited to be seated, not even a "hey, with you in a second." Not the biggest deal on its own, but kind of set the tone. Eventually checked in after maybe five or ten minutes of just standing there with the bartender because it was the only person I could get to make eye contact with me. Not sure that did anything as he kind of just shrugged and pointed at one of the staffers running around but not every looking in our direction, but we soon got seated. I ordered the burrito supreme, which it said was served with beans and rice. No beans in mine or on the side. Just a big mush of mediocre and sometimes chewy but edible al pastor and a thin layer of bland rice. Got one Pepsi, but nobody offered to refill when I was done, never really saw the waiter again, and then had the check unceremoniously dropped on our table and confusion abounded when we asked if we could please order dessert, if that was OK with them. Dessert was the highlight for me. Deep fried cheesecake was tasty enough, but that was probably as much novelty with me as anything else. While in Salida, my boyfriend and I wanted to stop and get some breakfast so he opted for McDonald's and I of course came to Yelp for restaurant recommendations. I found Tacos El Tapatio on the top of my list and with an online ordering option! Their house breakfast burrito caught my eye, a huge flour tortilla stuffed with everything delicious. Bacon, egg, cheese, hashbrowns, smothered in gravy and their delicious chile sauce. Wow. I also got an order of Diablo potatoes. It was fantastic, cube potatoes with cheese, chile sauce and bacon. Where can you go wrong? This was a delicious stop on our trip. Easy ordering system too! We got our food and stopped by a little park to eat. This whole town has amazing views of the mountains. My wife, teenage son and his friend and me stopped in for a late light lunch. I wanted a margarita with a specific repasado and he said he would have to go to the back and get some. He came back and apologized but said they were unfortunately out of repasado in that brand. I was grateful for his honesty as he could have just made on and not told me. I likely wouldn't have noticed. The food was very good. I had a combination of street tacos which were very authentic and tasty. The boys had burritos which were huge, so much for light lunch, and they cleaned their plates. The wife had their Mexican pizza which was huge and so a lot was left over. We went white water rafting nearby and were starving afterwards. We just happened to walk by and decided to eat here without reading any reviews...because we are spontaneous like that...I'm glad we ended up here because the mango margarita was so yummy after a looong day rafting. Came here based on reviews, traveling through to Black Canyon. They were packed on a Friday evening. Servers and bartender were hustling! Received our food seemingly pretty fast for how busy they were. Had the jalepeno lime margaritas. They were good, but not very strong. I had the asada quesadilla, very good. Boyfriend had carnitas and asada street tacos. They were prepped authentic Mexican (he's Hispanic), but he said they had no flavor. If passing through again, we will stop again. We came in around 4:30 pm for a late lunch. There was a steady flow of customers. We were greeted by a gentleman who was our server. He was nice and attentive. He had a few bigger tables sat before us and apologized for the wait. We said it's totally fine. It wasn't long at all compared to other places we've dined at during our trip across Colorado. The salsa with the free tortilla chips was phenomenal. Perfect amount of heat and flavor. My husband ordered the chipotle chicken bowl and devoured it. It has a rich and creamy chipotle sauce. My older son ordered the Tapatio burrito and devoured it. He asked for the pork tomatillo sauce on the side. But he did enjoy it and used it on his burrito after all. My youngest son had a carnitas taco with cheese. I added some of my refried beans in it as well. He enjoyed it. I had the enchiladas suiza which was very good. My only issue was I would've loved a bit more of the tomatillo sauce. It was very minimal. The shredded my chicken breast was fine, not much flavor. My beans and rice were excellent.
