They were definitely working hard, and always helpful - I just think they had more people at once than they were ready for. We ordered a variety of items, and I can't go through all of them here (honestly don't remember all of them). The bacon wrapped peppers were a delicious app, as were the parmesan fries. The salsa that came with the chips was very tasty, and the queso dip and avocado are worth getting as well. The burgers were big and juicy, and all that got them liked them. We thought we'd try this place since we had eaten at the High Side twice that week. I wish we went back for a third time. Boathouse was terrible! The bun was dry, the tacos were tiny and so dry, the Brussels were dry. The only thing that seemed to taste okay was the fried mushrooms. We asked for ranch and had to wait a long time until I asked again. Definitely not coming here again. High Side is hands down the best restaurant in salida! The Parmesan fries are out of this world! We were hungry after a long day of travel in the mountains, and the motel owner recommended this place by the Arkansas River, which is a big kayakers' draw on this stretch. Their very current website had their menu in beautiful detail, and we immediately saw there'd be something we would enjoy, so we arrived just after 6:30 on a summer Tuesday evening. It was busy but not jammed, and we were lucky to score a table right by the open window near the back with no waiting. Service was a bit on the slow side in terms of taking orders and checking up on us, but it was very prompt when bringing out our drinks and freshly prepared food orders. The fried brussels sprouts with cashews and bacon were light, savory, and very tasty as an appetizer. My companion had the Cowboy Fish & Chips, which I guess were "cowboy" because of red ale in the batter? But he said they were just right, and he ordered the sweet potato fries instead of the regular version, and liked those too. My entree was the seared ahi salad, with mandarin slices and a sweet ginger vinaigrette dressing that was just the right complement. The tuna was perfectly seared, and the seasoning was just right. Of course the big win for this place is the location. We loved sitting over the river. Very spacious and friendly staff as well. We started with drinks and cheese curds. Always love cheese curds. 10/10. Had to make a pitstop in Salida to experience their epic patio. Watching rafters float down the Arkansas river right under you with a great view of the mountains, all I've ever wanted. Food was banging. All burgers come with two smash pattys and they use quality ingredients with all the fixings. This thing held its integrity down to the last bite and was throughly enjoyable. Came here on a Friday night and because it seemed empty and we could eat quickly. Turns out the place is just massive and there are many different areas to sit in. Looks like a great place for big groups. Our waiter, I believe Taylor was awesome. Kept the food and drinks coming. This was my first time in Salida and this restaurant came highly recommended. It is great for a group of people purely because of the options available. You can get tacos to cheeseburgers - all at an affordable Colorado price. The portions are large and the food was great. We loved the variety of craft cocktail options and that you can get the brewery beer fresh. We had a great seat outside and the service was great. During FibArk I was feeling a bit dehydrated so popped in and asked for a water and without question the bartender gave me one with ice. In our final night in Salida my wife and I with son, wife and grand baby stopped to eat. They were busy and at least 30 wait. We started to look for another place and within 10 minutes they called and said a place opened up and yes near the river. Some disclaimers: We've been here several times and never been disappointed until now. The crew was probably exhausted from being swamped by the aspen tree lookee-loos the last two weeks. The menu says parties of 8 can't split checks (we had a party of 7), and that parties of 10 or more will have 20% gratuity automatically added. These folks clearly don't want large groups. We wanted to split the checks (why would tiny groups want to?). The server said no. I got a bit snippy, so it's on me, but he finally said. "Rude, but I don't want to fight about it, I'll just split them." I should have pointed to the menu at parties of 8 or more and we had 7, which I did when I apologized. He didn't really accept it. My wife had the Norwegian Grilled Salmon salad, which was, as always phenomenal. I ordered the Arkansizzle Grilled Shrimp Tacos, which sounded really good from the description. Instead, it was dozens of dime-size shrimp cooked until they turned hard and almost chewy. I don't know if it was revenge or what, but they normally cooked everything perfectly, and the other six had great meals. When he brought the hand-held, he easily split the checks, told me a 20% gratuity was added and could add more if I wanted. I actually heard him and left it as it was, but our guest got a $130 bill, didn't hear him so gave them a total of 40% tip before we could catch it for him. My wife said we'd have to find another restaurant next time we were in Salida. I said this one was fine, just no extra guests, and I'd order something other than shrimp.
