Good sandwiches and BBQ. Was previously a food truck at this location, they've moved into the building. Still turning out delicious sammies and smoked meat off Hwy 285

If it weren't for Yelp we probably wouldn't have found this place. We were on our way back to Denver from Crested Butte and wanted to stop for some lunch quick, so this seemed like the best option in the area. My boyfriend and I split the Pulled Pork Plate that came with two sides (we choose potato salad and seasoned black beans) and a side of mac & cheese. The portions were large, bigger than we expected, and it filled us both up. The pulled pork was cooked great and the Spicy BBQ sauce is a must try!

We worked up an appetite hiking through soft and shifting sands at a certain National Park before continuing northward, driving through town after tiny town where we couldn't find an open filling station, let alone food. Thus, when we got to Poncha Springs and suddenly had 4G again, we chose the first food truck listed on Yelp. We did not know what to expect from a rural food truck with only 3.5 stars at the time of our visit, but our growling bellies demanded that we risk it. OMG are we ever glad we did! Combine that everybody-knows-your-name feel of your local dive-bar, with the earnestly eclectic comfort of your favorite independent coffee house, then hide that under a wooden carport, and you will have the vaguest impression of the dining room. An order window faces into the humbly hip dining room, and a bright white sign, looking for all the world  like an oversized tri-fold pamphlet displays the menu.  I know exactly what I want from the pictures on Yelp, but I have trouble finding it. Turns out that if you want fried shrimp and sweet potato waffle-fries, that's just the Shrimp Basket with a substitution. Those sweet potato fries are pretty darn amazing, though, and the shrimp are some of the best ive had this far from an ocean. Raz went for the Cajun Pork plate. I was astounded at the slow burn of the spicing, and the absolute perfection of the succulent meat. The absolute star of the whole experience, however, was his side of spicy ranch-style beans. They were savory, smoky, spicy, and had almost none of the sweetness I generally associate with bbq beans. Thus, they were the perfect pintos, and I would be willing to make the half-day drive back here just for them. This place is an absolute diamond-in-the-rough, and worth every one of the 5 stars I'm giving.

US 285 this image does not do it Justice. San Luis Valley, Collegiate Peaks, head waters of the arkANSAS River are gorgeous!

Great place to stop on US 285 between Albuquerque and Denver. Much better drive than taking I-25 too.

What a GREAT GEM! Don't miss this stop! We got double burgers with cheese, the burger (bun) was delicious! The fries WERE FABULOUS, battered and crunchy....I must say, the BEST FRIES! My husband and also got chocolate shakes...also delicious! The prices were very reasonable too! A must stop!

Great little place to get a bite. Best barbecue and French fries in town with friendly service too!!!

This is a new place next to the Hunger Trailer smokehouse. What a great little burger joint along the road. I had the green chili burger and my wife had the cheeseburger. Both were quite tasty. The crispy French fries were just how I like 'em. Wilson, the lone server was flying around tending efficiently to the four tables with guests. The chocolate shake I had was made with, wait for it, chocolate ice cream! Check it out!

I wanted to like the food, and it was great for a food track. A little pricey for the quality.

14 dollars for a pork sandwich " no sides, no drink, just the sandwich" that taste like it was cooked in a crockpot? Never again.

Really good for breakfast, though portions are large so consider splitting the burrito.

Dos AA's - Cute little food truck and picnic table (the side that was in the sun)

Passing through town on our trip from Virginia and so glad we found this place !…read more We got carne asada tacos and both me and my partner are particular - he likes no pico and I like no cheese or sour cream and there were no issues ! Delicious , the extra dollar for carne asada was so worth it. Great texture , flavor and not abunch of fat like some places. I also asked for a side of rice and beans - the rice is white but nice and fluffy and the beans were whole pinto and they gave salt to sprinkle on the beans since they usually put in the burritos only - perfect taste ! We got the spicy hot cause and it was flavorful AND the right amount of heat. Friendly service , good energy and smiles. It's a cute food truck and outside picnic tables had shade and sun, you could hear nearby running water. A must try!

Omg Ya'll! We discovered this small little truck because my husband and I rented The Little Red…read moreCabin next door. We camp in Salida every summer. I'm so glad we decided to stay at TLRC otherwise we wouldn't have discovered this truck. Let me tell you, I was hesitant. I'm from northern Mexico and reside in San Antonio, Tx. so tacos are a big damn deal to me. My in laws had us booked for dinner every night so we had one chance to run next door and grab a couple to go. Looking at the menu I noticed how moderate the prices were. Still, I wasn't expecting much. We decided to get an order of the "Chicken verde" and "Pork Carnitas". The sweet girl at the front was friendly and brief. Which I like, I don't like people talking to me. After we put the order in she asked what kind of salsa we wanted. "Oh. The hottest one you've got!" I confidently responded. We decided to walk away just so they could do their thang. We returned about 10 minutes later and the order was ready. I could hardly stand my excitement. Walking into our cabin my husband decided we should wait a little bit longer to eat. "Wait a minute, *green goh* ! I'm hungry! And I've been wanting a taco for weeks!" I said in my determined Mexican voice. I proceeded to open the neatly packaged boxes. I didn't know which one to pick! I bet you can't guess what I did? Being the sinful glutton that I am, I grabbed one of each. I carefully poured tiny drops of the red salsa. But then I remembered my father told me I had bigger pelotas than my brothers and went a couple of more drops. The chicken verde was the first bite. The lettuce made the first bite a bit crunch. The taste of the chicken verde hit all sides of my tongue and mouth. Then came the punch of the red salsa. They really know what they're doing with this. I was impressed. The chicken was flavorful, tender, and it reminded me of the Christmas pork tamales that my momma makes. The juices were flowing out. And everyone knows that a messy taco is the first sign of a good taco. Next, I had a bite of the pork carnitas taco. The sour cream added delightful hints of tart and the pork was cooked to tender perfection in the red sauce. It was obvious they were cooked for hours. I enjoyed the pork carnitas the most. I didn't add as much red sauce. So dad, you were wrong. I'm a shame. In all seriousness, this was a very special treat. It is especially difficult to find delicious Mexican food in SOME parts of the north. Especially delicious tacos, My husband and I highly recommend that you try these. We're excited to try the rest of their menu next year!
