I recommended their sushi roll :) They also have Thai foods on their menu. Atmosphere is contemporary Asian fusion with clean bathroom & many art decor for sales. My complaint is with the $14 house salad, it came with one of those plastic cups of ranch instead of ginger dressing, what Asian fusion restaurant's house salad doesn't come with ginger dressing? Th food was decent. Disappointed with the dumplings. They were an open top not enclosed like traditional dumplings, which I have never seen before. I think this made them dry. Our waitress was very friendly. However, a tip for the restaurant and staff, I find it very rude to list the minimum tip amount at 22%. A tip that high should be given when exceptional services is provided, this is the choice of the patron not the restaurant. I really wanted this to be good because I like supporting local businesses but we spent $70 on lunch and it just wasn't good. Atmosphere was nice and improved. The food was just not good. How do you mess up A California roll? I also had the beef Teriyaki and there was a brown sauce on it that was horrid and tasted like it still had the can opener in it. It's been a while since we've since we've stayed in Salida and when we got here I knew we had to try Osake. It did not disappoint and it's a great new restaurant to have in one of our favorite weekend getaway towns. First, the space is fresh & airy - a real improvement from the old place (Shallot's) that always felt stuffy to us. We sat in the front, at a table, but there is a lovely bar area and more tables in the back. We started with a Dio's Rainbow Roll, which is a great introduction to their sushi. It's a California roll topped with assorted sashimi and the fish was fresh and tasty. The SO had the Hibachi Fried Rice, adding chicken, which he enjoyed, and had enough left over for a future lunch. I had the Chicken Shiitake, which I highly recommend. Lots of veggies & chicken in a flavorful sauce. The beer and wine selection is nice and affordable, although the SO was sad that 2 of the IPAs he had his eye on were tapped out. Just another reason to go back soon. read more

We have eaten here twice now and I think it is wonderful. It is so nice to finally have a sushi place in Salida that is a higher end restaurant! The atmosphere is really nice, we have only sat up front, but liked it. The owners and the staff are really trying hard to make your dining experience great, they are new so you have to expect some glitches in the beginning. My favorite was the scallops, they melt in your mouth. The other time we went in we tried the steak dish, very tender and flavorful. Our friends ordered the papaya salad, very spicy but good. We also split the banana dessert and it was delicious! We will be back for sure. read more

Please know I recognize this restaurant is brand new and a work in progress. We've been in this space many times when it was Shallots. In the front of the house, the layout is much tighter and feels a bit cramped. The back of the house is now in full use and is where our waitress seated us. Not bad, however, please upgrade from the banquet chairs of an old convention center. Nick took great care of us. Personable and kind, his enthusiasm and thoughtfulness made the night. We tested a number of items. Skip the gyoza: deep fried, cold and clearly not homemade. Order the curry, nicely done and flavor filled. Noodle dishes were good too. Looking forward to returning. For the sushi lovers, we finally have a spot in town! Just be prepared to spend your whole budget on a few rolls.... They all range from $15-$25 a roll... and only accept cash or Venmo! On Tuesday we decided to get takeout sushi. We understood it was going to be a busy soft open, however we did not expect to see only one sushi chef working the whole place. It took one full hour before we got our two rolls. Not the chef's fault, you could tell they opened before hiring enough staff. Bummer. The prices on these rolls are just insane. The "classic" tuna avocado roll comes topped with macadamia nuts... ($15) and if you ask for no nuts, it does not change the price. That type of roll and for the size, $10 would be pricey! Maybe if you knew where the fish was sourced could you argue that price but seriously guys, at home you could make that roll at least 5 times for that price. For spending $23 on the Jimi Hendrix roll, you'd think they would list all the ingredients in the roll on the menu. It was much to my surprise that this roll had asparagus in it! And I'm someone who despises asparagus so I would've changed my order had I known. The soft shell crab is what saved it and I found worth the price. In my opinion, there needs to be a maki roll menu with reasonable prices for the basics. Maybe even a happy hour menu with reduced prices during the week. Sure the out of towner's will spend their budget on whatever sushi, but the locals are not trying to break the bank. Also a source guide so we know where the seafood is coming from. I look forward to this place adjusting to our town and I hope they make some changes to improve the experience. read more

Let me first say all we had was sushi, 2 rolls and the rest nigiri. Aside from the butcher job on the pieces, terrible! The rice most important part wasn't even seasoned and had to be at least 2 days old. Soft shell crab roll inedible! worst California roll I've ever had, how do you screw up a California roll? Now here's the worst part prices, I understand we live in a small town and it's slightly tougher to get good fish but the prices we're absolutely ridiculous! I am a long term Salida resident and am so glad to have an extraordinary restaurant come to town! The food was exceptional and reasonably priced. Even though they were slammed with business, they paid attention to us and made it a very pleasurable evening. There were so many things on the menu I wanted to try. First time here. Went for carry out last night. Liked the dining room and bar. Somewhere I go. Food was excellent. Had the Spring Rolls, Krapoa Beef and Fried Rice. All excellent. I was particularly impressed with the beef. Nice chunks and tender. Most of the time when I order beef in Asian restaurants it's usually shoe leather. Not here. i used to LOVE osake, the drunken noodles and seaweed salad were me absolute favorite. unfortunately lately i haven't been as happy, the last time i went the drunken noodles were so spicy i couldn't finish them. they may have gotten new cooks? today i got the beef pho. i'm sorry to say it was really bad. it wasn't even pho, just over cooked fatty beef sitting in beef broth, not pho broth. i'm sad :( i will still go back as i know this does not mean they are a bad restaurant, they have some great dishes. the service is really good, the owners are very kind, and the ambience is great! read more

Sushi shouldn't smell like fish. Fresh fish shouldn't smell like fish. Plus the fish in the Nigiri shouldn't look dried out. The crab Rangoon had mostly cream cheese in it I couldn't even taste the crab. We are more than happy to pay these over inflated Aspen type prices for GOOD sushi. The drunken noodles were sub par. And the seaweed tasted old. I can get fresher sushi in the Aspen Park King Soopers grocery store. Not something I would ever recommend for anyone. read more

I have never been treated so rudely in my entire life! After returning a martini that I said was not very good, being made of half vermouth and half gin, the bartender came over to our table, pushed the waiter out of the way as he was trying to change my order and screamed at me, "did you say my martini tasted like dog shit?" Of course i had not said that, but as she left I did yell after her that she should learn how to make a decent martini. On top of that the food was mediocre at best. We will never return to this restaurant and I would encourage others to boycott them as they are not worthy of your business. Bad food and bad service are one thing, but spewing outrage a a paying customer is totally unacceptable. read more

Second visit and they still are either seriously short staffed or just dont get it. Im assuming its staffing. First visit was pretty good albeit slow but they had just opened and owner warned us yo be patient. Second visit we got two non sushi plates relatively quickly but in over an hour we never saw our sushi and finally cancelled it and left. Other tables near us were apparently having the same problem. Nick our waiter was clearly frustrated but helpful and relatively efficient on all but the sushi. I hope they get it together. Its a nice place for Salida (but expensive) and it would be a shame if they cant work out their problems. Will try the other sushi place next time. read more

First, the food was great. The service was wonderful as well. The place was packed on a Friday night and we added people to our table on the fly and our server Beebe took it all in stride. I had the poke bowl which was fantastic. And my husband had panang curry which was also great. There's sushi if you want, steak, curry, vegan and vegetarian options and Thai food so you can take people who won't eat sushi​ or have dietary restrictions and everyone will have options. And the kicker: I took people here for a business meal, and forgot to take the itemized receipt. So when I went to turn in my expense report, my company wouldn't reimburse me. Even though it had been several days, the manager Atticus went way out of his way to get me a new copy of the receipt. Over $200 that he saved me. Just plain wonderful! Great food, super service (probably the best I've ever had in our town in 30 years), nice atmosphere. Between my husband and myself we had two sushi plates, the Guns & Roses roll (umm, umm good!) and a Bento box ... all excellent and very fresh. A lovely experience. I don't see how anyone could possibly be unhappy with a dining experience here. The prices, presentation and quality compared favorably with other highly-rated sushi restaurants we have visited. If I were you, I'd completely disregard that one negative review - he himself must have issues, not the restaurant. read more
