Midway Pizza
Hannah K.

I hadn't been to Luce in a few years and after this visit I asked myself, why?! It was so good as always and I love all the different options. We dined on the patio and had fast, friendly service. The Midway Pizza was delicious! What a fun special to have with the fair coming up. Base sauce was their house buffalo sauce, topped with cheese curds, bacon, tots and pickled red onions. A little bit on the salty side which I don't mind, plus it worked well with the watermelon salad that we also got. (Also amazing)

The cheese slice is twice as good as a slice off a cheese pizza??
Olivia G.

I want to thank Luce for being one of the only aves you can just grab a slice ESPECIALLY late night. I also love the pasta salad. My one complaint is that a cheese slice is about a million times better than getting a full cheese pizza and having a slice. They're pizza is just not good except for the slices. Service is either amazing and above and beyond or like the rudest person you e ever encountered as well which is a bummer. Too bright in most of their locations to comfortably eat inside and a large weak pizza is damn near $50 but thank you for the late night much higher quality slice.

Brunch is where. it. is. at! High quality service, amazing food (including vegetarian and vegan options), and strong drinks! If you haven't been here for brunch, have you even experienced Uptown?

If I'm in the mood for pizza, I'm coming to Pizza luce. They have a pretty diverse menu to pick from, and they always have a monthly special that's usually pretty awesome (there was a jalapeño popper pizza special last winter that I've been dying to have again). The pizza is on the pricey side which discourages me and my friends to come too often. Their other dishes are more reasonably priced but I have not personally tried them. I almost always dine in at the restaurant but I know they offer free delivery which is pretty cool. The service is always great, I usually have the same server every time. Overall, a great pizza spot with a great food and beer menu, although a little too pricey for me.

Vegan Athena ($22 for a medium). Delicious "rinotta" cheese. Excellent crust.

Pizza Luce is like an old friend you never get tired of. He's always there for you, happy to have a drink, happy to cook you dinner, happy to have you over. Even in the mid-aughts Luce was an innovative vegan-friendly powerhouse, making what I believe is the best vegan cheese in the United States: the "rinotta." It's a blend of tofu, cashews and herbs and is better than any vegan cheese I've had in New York or Portland or Los Angeles or wherever. It's a savory marvel. To this day, it's better than 99% of the fly-by-night "plant-based" places you see on the coasts. While their pizzas are pricey, you're also paying for quality and consistency. The crusts are doughy but not cheap or fake; the vegetables are fresh and the mockmeats are plentiful (they have Herbivorous Butcher, Beyond Meat and Taiwanese options). For vegan cheese, they also have Violife, alongside their homemade rinotta option. Stop by Pizza Luce for an amazing pie, a local beer, and a chocolate peanut butter crispy bar. They're open late and have multiple locations around the state. You won't be disappointed.

We got a few of the bruschetta and the soft egg and lobster was so amazing! I know its a bit spendy, but it is divine! I at the Bolognese and it was so delicious! I have noticed that they do rotate the noodle that the Bolognese is on, but I don't think that should matter as they were fantastic. Since it was a group of us girls, there was a selection of dishes and everyone was in love with their food. I can not wait to go back!

Street parking available on hip and trendy Washington Ave! They also have a decently priced valet for diners not looking to search nearby for parking! The interior is moody and hip with dim lighting, exposed brick, and a social energy. It's always busy without feeling stuffy or crowded. The service is top notch...fresh silverware and plates with every course, consistently filled water, servers that are around but not overbearing, and courses that come out with exquisite timing! We enjoyed an appetizer, a few bruschettas, and a few pastas on our most recent visit. Arancini were the perfect start: crispy, creamy, and a little spice from the sauce! Chicken Liver Mousse Bruschetta was the weak point in the meal as it just seemed to be lacking a component that balanced the richness of the mousse. The Crispy Pork Shoulder and Carrot Bruschetta was VERY salty, but I kinda enjoyed how it would make my mouth water, quenched by the creamy carrot puree. The Gnocchi are little pillows of heaven, and the orange sauce is such a pleasant surprise. The real star for me was the Mushroom Agnolotti: little pillows of creamy, mushroomy goodness topped with a plethora of additional mushrooms. Chef's kiss. Can't wait to come back again and again!

Note, they do NOT take reservations so it's first come, first serve. Our original wait time was around 1 hour but it ended up only being 35 minutes. Parking is quite limited but due to eating later in the evening, we were able to get a parking spot in their lot. Broaders' has both patio and indoor seating. Being the middle of winter, we sat inside. It's not an overly large restaurant so be prepared to wait during busier meal times (like dinner on the weekends). Our waitress was very nice, answered our questions, and helped us select the perfect wine. Shortly after ordering our wine, they brought out a complimentary bread basket which was delicious! We asked for butter and more of the foccaccia because it was SO good. For our mains, we got the Greek Salad, Ravioli Di Zucca, and Spaghetti Con Polpette. WOW! I don't have a single complaint. The greek salad was flavorful with all the mixed vegetables and dressed perfectly. The Ravioli Di Zucca was buttery and delicious and the Spaghetti Con Polpette was probably the best spaghetti and meatballs we've ever had. Somehow we had room for dessert and opted for the Tiramisu. It was good, not great. I didn't love that it was cut in the shape of a pie vs. a square -- Something about that threw me off. Overall, I HIGHLY recommend going to Broaders' Pasta Bar! You won't regret it!

Pizza- this pizza was amazing the pomegranate sauce offered a nice brightness, the mushroom sauce was a perfect creamy umami flavor and there was enough sauce on the pizza which usually I want more sauce. But the venue is very cool, with lots of community type tables. It seems very odd that such a popular, quality restaurant is closing, but there are lots of rumors around this, mostly about the landlord jacking up the rent to a ridiculous amount, and wanting to sell the building. But there has also been press in the past about the owner closing another restaurant possibly in order to avoid unionization of the employees. Who knows what's really going on. But what are they going to do with the big copper pizza oven and all the other installations?

When my friend and I walked in, we came into a fairly spacious dimly lit space with loads of people inside. We were immediately informed that there would be over 1.5hr wait for a walk-in table. We were given the option to wait for bar seating as it would probably be quicker - and surely, it was. We did have to wait quite a bit, but it was a tolerable amount of time and definitely less than what it would have taken for an actual table. My friend and I decided to share 2 pizza pies as we wanted to get a taste of two different flavors, so we eventually settled on Korean BBQ & Perfect Pickle Pie. KOREAN BBQ As it was created by a Korean chef, it definitely had true authentic Korean flavors. As a Korean myself, I was very familiar with this soy vinaigrette and have tried this on many salad before - so, it was hitting home for me. Also, you can't go wrong with the bulgogi/beef short ribs known to all those who had Korean BBQ before. The combination of the sauces that they use for this pizza is definitely very rich, full of umami. I personally enjoyed it. PERFECT PICKLE PIE This pie was a totally different flavor to the Korean BBQ. It's less rich and maybe can be overpowered or considered more bland compared to other pizza flavors. But when tried together with the BBQ, it balances out the richness of the BBQ with the more subtle/less umami flavors. This pie gives more of a tangy/sour taste that pickles provide and more of a crunch due to the chips that are added on top. The dill is present, but not overpowering. It's a nice low-key kind of taste that people who like pickles will enjoy. Overall, the flavors were very rich in every pizza pie that we had that our mouths were bursting with flavor. It was definitely the most unique pizza toppings that I've had and can see why it's so highly regarded. I can tell that they really are meticulous with their every process and that their pizza guy by the wood fire oven is expertise in what he does. My friend and I walked out quite satisfied and I was honestly more full than I expected.
