After a nice hike up in Yorktown, NY, my wife suggested we stop at 'that food truck' we saw serving pizza. I thought she was kidding 'cause she keeps a super healthy diet. Long story short, best pizza we've had in a LONG time! Located in an open lot at the corner of Rts. 100 & 118 in Yorktown, the back of the truck looks like someone bolted a 4-season sunroom onto the back of an old Chevy flatbed. But upon closer inspection, a big wood-burning pizza oven can be seen inside the vehicle, and that's where the magic happens. I'm not a 'foody', so I'll just say that the 12" thin crust Marguerita and special Filetti (buffalo mozzarella & cherry tomatoes) pies were simply delicious. We also had mini cannoli's that were super yummy! Everything was made to order and FRESH! My wife now wants to schedule future hikes based upon the location of the Pizza Luca truck! Two months ago, I initially reached out to Dean to cater my wedding next year. I was really interested based on all the great reviews, plus, I really had wanted a mobile pizza oven. He contacted me right away, and I gave him the specifications needed to write up a quote, which he said would be "a few days." Six days later, I checked in and asked about when I might expect a quote. He quoted me three days after that. I checked back in with him six days later and he assured me again that he was working on it and would send it to me soon. I called up maybe a week or so after that to check in. I left a message but he never responded. Here I am two months later, and I booked someone else. I guess he decided he wasn't interested in catering my wedding. Pizza Luca has one of the most amazing pizzas in NYC!! They were introduced to me at my company holiday party. I walked to the venue with this beautiful food truck parked outside, equipped with its own brick oven inside a glass encasing!!! When I first saw it, I knew it was going to be something special! When I finally got to try one of the slices, I was blown away!!!! The crust is so thin and crispy, the sauce was robust, everything was just perfect. All the ingredients were simple and fresh, nothing fancy, but just amazingly delicious! The only reason why this review is not 5 stars is because I wish they had a brick and mortar restaurant!! I was really excited to try this food truck after reading an article about it. This is not your typical looking food truck. These guys use a 1952 chevy to pull a wood fire oven on a flatbed, genius idea. According to what i read, they fly all of their ingredients in from Campania, Italy and cook their pizzas at 900 degrees for 90 seconds. These guys were at the 9th ave international food festival this weekend, so i got there early to avoid any lines. I went with the margarita pizza, although the white pizza also looked amazing. The pizzas were made fresh when you ordered so it took about 5 minutes for the pie to be ready. When my pie was handed to me i knew this was going to be a great pizza, it looked just like the pizza i had in italy. My first bite was awesome, the ingredients were so fresh and the cheese was gooey. It was cooked perfectly and had a nice crunchy crust. This was definitely one of the top 3 pizzas i've had in the city, and probably the most authentic. $13 for a small pie isn't cheap, but it was well worth it. I spoke to the guys running the truck and it seems like they mostly do catering and some of these types of festivals. If you see this truck you should definitely give it a shot, i know i'll be back to try the white pie. read more

I made all of the arrangements with Dean, who was fabulous to deal with -- prompt, courteous and thoughtful in all respects. Pablo and Leo did the onsite work (in the fabulous vintage truck with its brick oven) and they were also awesome! Among our guests were Michele and Charles Scicolone who have eaten at all the finest pizza places in Naples over many years and have actually written a Neapolitan pizza cookbook.
