OMG! A truly old Italian atmosphere. Deli meats and cheeses are very fresh. You have to take a number but you don't get lost in the crowd. You all know that if there is a crowd the quality is excellent. It is very organized. Fresh produce and freshly baked side dishes are to die for. I have been shopping here for over 30 years!! Either my husband or I are there at least twice a week or more. There meats are the bets there is! You pay for what you get! They have prepared food and I've probably tasted all of them and one is more delicious than the other. Their mozzarella is delicious!!!! Oh and when they have chicken pot pie it is crazy good! While I understand the holiday season can be busy for food establishments and deadlines for placing orders are in place, it's extremely rude when you call a store to order a small (4 person) antipasto and the employee laughs and follows it with a "you are a little late, deadline was last week" you will think twice about being a continued customer. read more

OK - So many of you are probably wondering why I'm only giving them 2 stars. Here's the deal, I've been going to A&S for over 20 years now. Before then I would go down to Arthur Avenue in the Bronx for all my Italian cold cuts. Their quality is right on par with the best Italian imports around and it was more convenient than driving down to the Bronx. However, this year they dropped a bomb on me! Every year I get all my antipasto along with some hot food trays for Christmas Eve dinner. it saves me a ton of time in food prep and for the price it was worth it. I usually host between 12-15 people and I typically spend anywhere from $400-500 for everything. Like every true Italian I always have a ton of food left over. This year I decided to cut back significantly on my typical order. When I was handed to bill I almost passed out... $820! That's almost double what I normally spend AND I cut back from previous years! A full tray of Penne Alla Vodka was $145, 1 fresh mozzarella was $25! I understand prices have gone up but this was flat out robbery! I just picked up some fresh mozzarella from JB & Sons in Yonkers and it was $9.72 - and it tasted better than A&S! Sorry A&S but I just can't justify spending that much money when there are other Italian delis whose prices are much cheaper. Stew Leonard's for example has a great deli and their prices are way more competitive! In closing, if price is of no concern to you, then A&S is an excellent choice for quality Italian meats, cheeses and more. However, if you are like most middle class Americans trying to save a few buck whenever you can, then I suggest shopping around, there are plenty of other Italian delis & markets that won't hurt your wallet they way A&S will. read more

This review is based solely on my customer service experience. The store seemed to have some really good products but this day I came in to purchase a beverage. Three staff members were attending to two customers. They never even acknowledge me even when I decided to put the drink back after waiting a long time. A customer is a customer is a customer. GREAT Italian family owned deli! My family and I have been going there for ever. Never disappoints. They have the best meats, cold cuts and their freshly prepared foods are always plentiful and delicious. They have delicious fresh mozarella , fried chicken cutlets and a wide variety of Italian specialties, such as stuffed artichokes, fresh roasted pepper and fresh bread from Terra Nova Bakery. Did I mention the delicious homemade chicken sausage with Broccoli Rabe? Plan on waiting on a long line especially during the holidays, but they get to you fast because they keep things moving with large amount of employees that are alway moving. I bought a prosciutto bread the other day that was so good. When you walk in you dont know where to look first. Their display case is filled with an enormous assortment of foods as are their shelves and freezers. Spent days looking for a pork shoulder blade roast... No luck. Not at Stew Leonard's (meat dept didn't even know what I was talking about), not at stop&shop.. No where. I decided to take it old school and visit a butcher shop. Even several butcher shops I contacted didn't have the right cut (and tried to sell me on "similar" items). I was so happy to find A&S because 1) they had the exact cut and knew what I was talking about 2) they were friendly when I arrived and had my item all wrapped up and set aside 3) they were able to explain the different cuts to me and made me feel valued as a customer. They specialize in obtaining cuts not typically available in the grocery store. A lot of places just sell whatever they get but A&S does their own cuts so can give you want you want. I hope this place is around for a long time. I am def going to be a regular here for all my meat needs. Additional: full out Italian goods sold here. Fresh rainbow cookies, pastas, etc... Wonderful Deli in my home-city! I wish I knew about them years ago but never traveled up Central Ave for italian delis because there were soo many in south east yonkers. Started coming here about 2 months ago and go about two to three times a month and often purchase their lasagna, vodka sauce, chicken cutlet, meatballs, and other various items, all have been delicious! Growing up knowing how southern italian cuisine should taste, I can be very harsh on italian restaurants and delis however at A&S they seem to be keeping quality and taste at a high priority. The family originated from Brooklyn and that helps alot as half my family is there still and the culture is strong there in italian classics and the flavors and traditions are being passed on. Glad to see this deli and family owned business is open and dishing out a variety of gems. The only con for me is some of the prices on items, however I do accept that if I want to taste the same quality level then I have to accept the prices. Great establishment! read more

I've ordered from A&S many times but this time I have to say I was very disappointed. Especially since I spent a lot of money. I ordered plain wings and they were dry. I ordered a chicken cutlet hero with mozz and red peppers and that as well was so dry! We were choking. I had to put some kind of dressing on it (either vinaigrette or Italian) so we can eat it! We were not provided with any blue cheese dressing for the buffalo wings nor any dressing for the hero. I will reconsider for the next time. Good Food but poor customer service. They ignore the customer in front of them ordering and talk to their friends instead. They hold long extended conversations while the person ordering has to wait for them to stop talking in order to continue with their purchase. They make comments about how rude people can be yet they need to look at their own behavior. Greet your customers and take their orders respectfully. I make a weekly pilgrimage down from Hartsdale (I used to live in Yonkers, then Eastchester) for the fresh mozz(awesome), broccoli rabe, chicken cutlets (cut and pounded), chop meat (all beef and mixed), short ribs for sauce(fall off the bone tender) and all my cold cuts (they just taste better from here then other places for some reason), fresh ricotta. Best deli around.. cold cuts and salads are top notch. When you ask them to cut your cold cuts thin, it is always perfect - not too thin where it clumps all together, you can always pull off single slices easy even.
