I attended a holiday party at Sam's of Gendey Way the other night. While I thought I was eating food from the actual restaurant the entire time, I learned I was actually being served food from this catering company. I find that a little strange - do they own Sam's? Does Sam's own them? I really don't know - but it didn't feel right leaving this review on the restaurant's page so here we are. Since I'm only reviewing food, we can dive right into that. It was served buffet style and we had a number of selections: pirogies, fish tacos, shrimp lettuce wraps, tater tots, waffle fries, steak fries, and three types of sliders. Everything was presented nicely. Why two stars? While I don't have the highest expectations for catered food, there were some misses on their part where I expected more. The shrimp lettuce wraps seemed amateurish. The sliders were offensive - the buns were hard on the bottom which tells me they were reheated. Also, the beef sliders were super rare - to the point where I felt uncomfortable finishing it. This was a party - the beef needed to be medium or medium-rare at the most. The other items were just fine - I will applaud them for having a variety of sauces for the sliders and potatoes. We were served cookies for dessert which weren't anything remarkable - they had the soft look but weren't soft, and would have benefitted from being served warm. So yeah - I originally thought I would put this review on Sam's page, but I'm not going to hold them accountable for this food since it's virtually not what you would get if you dined there regularly. Other reviews here are really positive so maybe my experience was a fluke? Either way, the whole thing just makes me go hmmmm. read more

We used Caperberry Events for our wedding reception held at the CV Rich Mansion. Christine, Michelle, and staff were very helpful throughout the entire process. Christine helped with the planning, scheduling and vendor references beforehand. Michelle and staff helped with the decorations, and additional changes the night of. A few staff members helped me add some finishing touches to my wedding dress before the guests arrived, and were even very attentive to my elder family members with mobility issues. We were married at the CV Rich Mansion on Friday, August 17th 2012. Our experience prior to the wedding and on the wedding day was exceptional; the venue and staff were above our expectations and did everything to make our dream day come true. The venue is a historic Victorian mansion; with culture and personality. It is not a modern, clean and perfect venue instead it is a grand home with lots of personal character and warmth. The "imperfections" are just perfect. The upkeep on this property is exceptional; the landscaping (which is vast) is also beyond beautiful. When you enter it, you cannot help but feel as if you stepped into your own grand home. Joanna Mallone, our main contact and planner for the venue. She is a patient, meticulous, honest, sweet and caring person. She dedicates her all to her client; she made us feel as if we were the only wedding or event that she had that whole summer. She is swift on communication and had no problems answering all of our questions or catering to our many needs. The staff for the mansion are also amazing. They are all so polite and outgoing for their guests that we truly felt like royalty the day of our wedding. The food was the icing on the cake. There was not a dry chicken in sight! The groom accidentally walked into the kitchen the morning that we were getting married and he saw the chefs individually braising each chicken for our event...we figured it would be put in the oven but to cook everything individually shows that this place cares about their client. There is a large food selection that is given to you and you cannot go wrong in any choice. Our guests are still raving about the food and no one went home hungry. The drinks, again cannot remotely be terrible at this wonderful place. The bartenders were very courteous to our friends who love to drink and were bombarding them. They remembered everyone's drinks, were heavy handed and lightened up when they needed to be. This venue is perfect for: 1. Smaller wedding parties (four bridesmaids/groomsmen max) .... If you plan on getting ready at the Mansion. 2. The couple who wants to have something different than the norm, this is not a wedding factory location. 3. The couple who wants personalized service. 4. The couple who is easy going because the staff here sure will be as easy going with you, and further go out of their way for you. 5. The couple who focuses on food, tasty food and lots of it! If we could rewind time we would relive this moment over and over. I decided to have my 40th birthday at home this January and had Caperberry Events cater it. I've been eating at Sam's of Gedney Way for years and had tried their catering at a Taste of WhitePlains event a while back. The passed hors d'oeuvres we had were over the top. A combination of land and sea--Filet Mignon with Arugula and Horseradish Goat Cheese (amazing!), Outer Banks Crab Cakes with mustard caper sauce, and Crisp Coconut Shrimp with chili lime sauce (mouth watering as I recall them). As a vegetarian option, the Brie & Roasted Shallot Tart with caramelized fig chutney went so well with the red wine I was drinking. Other good gnoshing with their Classic Antipasto platter and a couple of platters of Shrimp Cocktail. For the main course, we had Tuscan Chicken with artichokes, and sage in a lemon butter sauce, along with a Penne Pasta with Prosciutto, grana and peas in a light tomato cream sauce, and huge platter of grilled vegetables. They cut up the chicken small enough so that you didn't need a knife, making it easier to eat in a cocktail setting. The entrees hit the spot and weren't too heavy after all the appetizers. Since I had already hired someone for the night to work the party, I opted for them to drop-off the food. They wheel it in in these giant containers that keeps everything the right temperature until you need it. They gave us instructions on how to heat and serve everything. Nothing was dry or soggy. I recently attended an early-morning breakfast meeting at Mapleton and was SO impressed by the location and the catering service. I expected the typical so-so meal of coffee and danish. I was surprised and was VERY pleased to be greeted with freshly scrambled eggs, perfect bacon, fresh bagels and spreadable cream cheese, a lovely fruit salad, and decaf coffee that was actually decaf! There were actually pastries there, but they played a minor role to all the other wonderful breakfast foods. A great meal that made the meeting seem even better. Caperberry Events is fantastic! My husband and I hired them for catering at our home for our daughter's first birthday this past weekend. We chose the "set and go" catering but then opted to have two servers on site to help during the party. We did a mix of sandwiches, a couple platters of pasta, mixed vegetables and chicken fingers and everything was a total hit with our guests. Especially the sandwiches and chicken fingers - they all got devoured (shout outs specifically for the roast beef sandwich, chicken sandwich and greek salad wrap!). For the staff, they sent us Juan and Bryan; they showed up an hour before our event and got everything ready. This was my first time hiring someone to help with a party and they made everything so easy. They knew exactly what to do, timed the food perfectly and kept my kitchen spotless through the whole party. They were really friendly and many of our guests commented about how great they were. It's not your mother's Woman's Club anymore. Elegance at its finest! I just hosted a retirement party at the C.V. Rich Mansion and it was sheer perfection! The ambiance was breathtaking. As the guests entered, I could tell by the look on their faces that they were completely taken aback by the exquisite furnishings and homey feel. The inside of the house has been updated and is beautifully decorated. The patio and gardens are comparable to a private oasis. The food was delicious, particularly the flank steak and the pasta with shrimp in a spinach sauce. The wait staff was attentive and professional. Natasha, the event planner was a pleasure to work with and paid close attention to every detail. Caperberry Events catered my son's Bar Mitzvah two weeks ago. They were more than I could have hoped for when hiring a caterer. Not only was the food absolutely superb and presented beautifully (my guests are still talking about how wonderful the food was two weeks later), but the on-site management and coordination leading up to the event was stellar. I worked with Christine V. for several months leading up to the event. She was responsive, professional, flexible, knowledgeable, and helpful in every way. Christine suggested ways I could cut costs when I explained that my budget was tight, even though it would potentially take dollars away from Caperberry. She never seemed to tire of questions and made me feel like I was her only client. In addition, she took care of details that had little to do with catering like ensuring that my DJ would receive all of the dance floor "swag," that party favors were available and presented at the right time, that the linen was perfect and in keeping with the florist's vision, that our candle lighting was well timed and coordinated, and so much more. I will absolutely hire Caperberry again and would recommend them to anyone. read more

We got married at C.V. Rich Mansion in White Plains, catered by Caperberry, earlier this month, and I can't recommend both enough. It was seriously the wedding of our dreams--I wish we could relive it again and again. We weren't a big "weddingy" couple and weren't psyched about a lot of the planning, but the incredible look and feel of C.V. is what made us excited, and then Elisabeth Hilzen made planning everything from the menu to timing, etc., so easy. All of our guests kept telling us how special and unique and beautiful the venue is (it's so not wedding factory or cookie cutter, and so elegant), and how amazing and plentiful the food was--and it was! Their food, again, is just not what you expect from wedding venues. Everything is so great, and there's so much to choose from, and I've never seen a wedding with so much food from the cocktail hour to dinner to dessert! We're so proud and excited to have gotten married here and with Caperberry, I can't imagine recommending anyone not get married here! read more
