We had our South Asian wedding at Whitby Castle on July 4. From the beginning, Niki made us feel welcome and confident in our decision. She was responsive, understanding, and flexible throughout the booking process that we truly appreciated. As we got closer to the wedding, Ralph became our main point of contact and he was our Maitre'D. He was incredibly communicative, practical, and reassuring. He helped us work through the last-minute changes and was always focused on finding a solution. We originally chose Whitby Castle because having an outdoor ceremony on the grounds was part of our dream. Unfortunately, due to an intense heatwave, we moved the ceremony indoors at the last minute. I was nervous that it would not have the same feeling, but the space felt elegant, intimate, and beautiful, and our photographs still captured everything we loved. There were a few hiccups throughout the day as well, but the venue including Ralph and Rosa (bridal attendant) remained accommodating and worked well with every one of our vendors to keep things moving. They took care of us that day in moments where no one else was paying attention, and we are eternally thankful to them for that. Whitby Castle is a stunning venue, but also one with a team that genuinely tries to support its couples. We had a great experience hosting our wedding at Whitby Castle. From the initial planning stages to the day itself, everything was handled with a high level of professionalism. Booking was straightforward and easy thanks to Ralph and Niki. On the day of the wedding, Roxy and Rosa kept everything moving exactly on schedule. Their coordination ensured that we didn't have to worry about the timeline, and the entire event ran smoothly from start to finish. The food was a major highlight. The chef did an excellent job, and the quality was consistent across every course. He personally talked to each of our guests as well. Our guests were genuinely impressed--we're still getting compliments about the meal months later, which speaks for itself. We chose to use their vendor package and were very happy with that decision. It significantly simplified the planning process, and the results were exactly what we had hoped for. Overall, Whitby Castle delivered a fantastic day. My dream venue was a castle on the beach, and Whitby is a castle overlooking the water (in the distance, close enough). It has all the charm and character of an historic castle, but it also has a modern ballroom and amenities. The location was central to us in Connecticut and our friends and family in NYC, New Jersey, and Massachusetts. The one weird thing is that, on Saturdays, they have two weddings, one in the early afternoon and one in the late evening. For this reason, we chose to have our wedding on a Friday, and it worked out perfectly. We were able to rent the bridal suite and have the place to ourselves for the whole day, and it was so convenient to get ready and have the ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception all in the same place. From Niki the catering sales manager to Ralph the operations manager/our maitre d' to Roxie our bridal attendant, the staff was incredible. Niki and Ralph went through every detail with us, answered our millions of questions, and accommodated last-minute changes flawlessly. Roxie was so helpful and knowledgeable, from offering my mom heel protectors to assisting with my dress. The in-house catering was delicious and plentiful, too. We were allowed to customize the menu by mixing and matching ingredients from different dishes. As if getting married in front of a castle isn't amazing enough, they really level up the outdoor ceremony experience by having the bride make a surprise entrance from the willow tree on the opposite side of the lawn. All of the guests were blown away. We also used this tree for our first look and couple portraits. I felt that Whitby was reasonably priced for an all-inclusive venue with such amazing service and food. I would recommend it a million times over. read more

I went for dinner with my girlfriend on the terrace at Whitby castle. We ordered calamari appetizer and steak sandwiches . After 50 minutes, Calamari appetizer and our sandwiches were brought to our table all at the same time . Everything on our plates were cold , Like it had been sitting there in the kitchen for a while. We had to ask for the sauce for calamari because the small dish for the sauce was almost empty like it was brought from another table. The bread was not toasted or grilled and was very cold . The French fries were cold with no ketchup on the side. I had been to Whitby castle in the past for different events and the food had always been good. I was very disappointed with the food and the service . The staff seemed not to even care when I told them about the poor quality of the food. read more

It is stunning & any Bride or Groom would be blessed to have this as their wedding venue. There is a grand ballroom & 2 private reception rooms, so it can easily host 2 weddings at a time. My Cousin & her husband were married on a beautiful Sunday in August. The weather was nice. It was very warm & cooked down quickly after their 5 PM wedding. We were quickly ushered to the deck upstairs which had a beautiful spread of Hors d'oeuvres. The Hors d'oeuvres were impressive! Not only was there a huge charcuterie board, there were hot appetizers passed around. There were tons of vegetarian & some vegan options... fruits like cut melons, berries & veggies. There was also a carved meat station & pastas. All this before the reception! We were well fed. And the views! Oh, my God! They were amazing. I was not prepared for how beautiful it would be. I truly regret not having a good camera with me. Thankfully, my husband walked around snapping pics that I could "borrow" & post. The staff here was so friendly & accommodating. I've been going to the castle for many years for Mother's Day until they stopped. When I found out they do Mother's Day brunch again we went last year. But the food wasn't as good. My husband and I got married at Whitby on 11.8.2024 and it was a better day than I could have ever dreamed of! Whitby was the venue I had always dreamed of. It is absolutely stunning to begin with. The food was incredible across the board (highly recommend upgrading to the sushi chef for cocktail hour - my guests couldn't stop talking about it!) The entire staff was amazing to work with. Niki was so responsive to me while planning and always helped with every detail and Ralph made sure the entire day went off without a hitch. I could not recommend more. We wish we could give Whitby Castle more than five stars! We just had our wedding there, and it exceeded even our highest hopes and expectations. Niki and Ralph were incredibly warm, responsive, courteous, and professional, from the contract to the moment we drove off at the end of the reception. The food was exceptionally good, and it was plentiful. They also offered us a few extra food offerings (a couple special appetizers, a sundae bar with all the toppings you could ever want, donuts and apple cider that guests could take as they left, etc.) that were not at all expensive, and we got so many compliments from everyone for them. The whole event ran smoothly thanks to Ralph's work orchestrating it the whole afternoon and evening, and their server staff were also very professional and on the ball. To say we feel we got our money's worth is an understatement, and we took advantage of the long holiday weekend to have our event on a Thursday, at a discounted price and with a lower minimum of attendees. We can't list the myriad little details offered by Whitby Castle that made the whole thing easier and more affordable than expected. We got married in March 2024 on a Saturday afternoon at Whitby & it was better than we ever could have imagined thanks to the breathtaking venue & all the amazing managers & staff. We looked at 10 wedding venues in Tri-state area before finding Whitby, & we knew we had to get married there the minute we saw it. First was the gorgeous castle & grounds (flawlessly manicured lawns on Rye Golf club & striking views of LI Sound), & how the venue provided accommodations for all weather types. Next was the wedding package, which included everything needed & was the best price for all options; we couldn't find a better price anywhere. From our first meeting w/ Niki, the Catering Sales Manager at Whitby, we knew we made the right choice. Niki handled everything w/ the venue throughout the process, including catering, vendors, amenities & all options available through Whitby. Niki took the time to get to know us & thoroughly explained the numerous elements to consider when planning our wedding. She made us feel as if she genuinely cared about us & our wedding (because she did). We later met w/ the Ops Manager, Ralph, about 3 weeks before the wedding & he was just as awesome. Ralph had all the particulars laid out for every aspect of our wedding & provided a comprehensive timeline & wedding plan. Niki & Ralph were incredibly professional & knowledgeable, & also exceedingly responsive & accommodating. Weather was no concern on our wedding day because of how Whitby operates. They have complete & functional outdoor heating throughout the wraparound patio that hosted much of cocktail hour, despite it being high 50°. We had wonderful sun on morning of our wedding, but it was windy & our ceremony would be on colder side in afternoon. We did not want our guests to sit in the cold, so we had an indoor wedding, & it was beyond stunning. The magnificent arch windows in the reception hall gave us astonishing light & scenic views for the ceremony. Regardless of weather, they set up for both options, to have our wedding inside or outside. We thought this was amazing considering how unpredictable weather can be. Some venues tend to have multiple weddings to maximize space, but we appreciated that Whitby treated us as the main event. In addition to astounding views & spectacular customer service, the entrées & various food courses were outstanding. I am not sure which our guests raved about more, the delectable food or marvelous views. We also have nothing but phenomenal things to say about Rosa, the bridal attendant at Whitby. Rosa was exceptionally attentive & helpful throughout the day. Niki, Ralph, Rosa, & our maître d', Gabriel, were all extremely organized & prepared for every scenario. There were so many moving parts & minute details involved in our wedding, but Gabriel was so on top of everything & made it a day to remember. I was really looking forward to choosing this venue for my wedding. My parents met at "rye night" at the castle 40 years ago and have been together ever since. (So it held sentimental value). My fiancé and i had a walk through appointment with the event coordinator, we arrived at our appointment and oddly she was not there for our appointment. The girl that worked at the front desk kindly showed us around but was not able to answer many questions. As we left we were told to email the event coordinator and she would help us get everything worked out. We were on a tight schedule to book our venue while we were in town for the holidays. I send her a email letting her know we were wanting to book the castle and would appreciate a call to get it booked. She replied and let me know that she was sick and that she could help me via email. I then totally understood why she wasn't at the appointment and was happy to work with her via email. I sent her all our questions and made it very clear we were ready to move forward, but she did not respond. The following days i called the castle but no one answered any number extension. I left messages with the event coordinator and the castle manager. We still have not heard back from anyone at the Whitby Castle. It's been 2 weeks. Things happen, people get sick and it was the holiday season but i made this appointment months in advance and they knew our tight schedule. Was there for a wedding yesterday. Food was OK...nothing to write home about. Service was awful. Our table sat with half eaten salads for almost 90 minutes before anyone decided to clear the table and wipe off the crumbs from the bread. Waiter introduced himself as our waiter for the evening, then, after taking our dinner orders we did not see him for over two hours. We had to get our drinks ourselves. It's too bad my experience for months prior to that was dealing with someone who always seemed vague about costs or items, wasn't friendly in any of our encounters and I almost felt like I was bothering her when asking questions. In the end, I was disappointed by the "spanish style" food, the set up was POOR (people couldn't see) and there was no cash bar! I attended a wedding here last night. It's hard to rate venues like this because everyone's wedding is unique, so take my review with a grain of salt if you must. The building itself is lovely - driving up it's super impressive from the outside. They even have two knight armors standing guard at the entrance, augmenting the whole castle feel. The inside is interesting - the front half of the building looks like it's more original with it's compartmentalized rooms and wealth of character. The back end looks newer - this is where the main dining/party room is as well as the back deck. The cocktail hour was spread out in different rooms, which gave us the chance to walk around and explore/socialize - though the compartmentalization sometimes made it difficult to find where all the food was. There was a good variety of stuff to choose from, though one thing I wasn't fan of was their slider station. Sliders are great, but I had to assemble them myself which made things a little clumsy. The main room was decorated nicely. It's in the shape of a T, where the cross of the T is where all the tables were (the other part contained the DJ and the dance floor). This made for a unique set-up for a wedding - normally you have tables on both sides of the dance floor but in this situation we were all clustered together. The food was just okay, I had the pesto shrimp with lobster risotto - the shrimp were a little too small for an entree, and the risotto was kind of gloppy. I did like that they offered a Viennese table in addition to standard wedding cake; the table had a number of cakes and such, all of which were tasty. Overall, as a guest I felt Whitby Castle but on a good wedding, but it's definitely not for everyone. The building and the grounds made it a unique alternative to your standard catering hall. read more

My best friend held her wedding here last month. The venue was beautiful! The staff was great! While the vendors were getting set up, the flower girl craved chocolate. Will the bartender came to our rescue! I couldn't find a vending machine but he found a chocolate bar and handfuls of chocolate kisses for us. The food was really tasty! Almost every time I order fish it's always dry the salmon was super moist and flavorful. The veggies were delicious as well! The wedding was such a blast I forgot my shoes. Nothing but class, professionalism and a willingness to make your day feel special - that is what I feel about the venue and staff of the Whitby Castle. From day one they took it upon themselves to meet the needs and wishes of two soon to be newlyweds. We had both the ceremony and reception at the Whitby Castle. First, they worked with our guest size and budget. Whitby Castle is a place for medium to large weddings however they were easily able to accommodate a wedding of 65 people (more on the small-medium side). The area never felt too big or small and the venue was able to use cocktail tables and other tricks of the trade to fill in the reception and ceremony. Secondly, they were able to work with our desired menu. Adding and subtracting from their standard menu- they added Golden Crusted Chicken Schnitzel just for us!!! Which was absolutely delicious! My now-husband is Austrian (born and bred) and he was even impressed! They also added a sundae ice cream bar along with a beautiful cake! Which was really good!!! Thirdly, the staff was AMAZING! Nice and cordial. The coordinator I was able to work with was Ralph, he was very nice and EFFICIENT! Which I absolutely love, no nonsense and straight to the point, providing advice and guidance when needed as well as suggestions where I didn't even know I needed to make a decision (he must've been doing this for years!) I never felt pushed or coerced into anything but simply guided and helped. Truly appreciated. My bridal attendant was Katie and she was always very helpful and knew exactly how to assist. She was able to help with my bustle and with the decorations. I wish to send a special thank you to both Ralph and Katie, I feel like you two went above and beyond and I really appreciated it. The rest of the staff was also very supportive and cheerful. Excellent service. Absolutely no complaints. None. Also my husband would like to mention he really appreciated the before ceremony snacks and beers in the grooms suite. Helped take off the edge for him. Hehe. Niki, Ralph, and all the staff were absolutely incredible. From the planning stages to the actual wedding day, everyone made things incredibly easy and seamless. Niki and Ralph made sure all of our needs/questions/concerns were thoroughly addressed prior to the day so that on our wedding day we just had to show up and enjoy everything! I got ready at Whitby that morning and I would highly recommend - we easily got in and we had plenty of space for all of our dresses / hair and makeup / and relaxing. Not to mention the beautiful room and lighting as a backdrop for our getting ready photos! Then after we returned from our wedding ceremony (at an offsite church) everything I had dropped off earlier in the week was perfectly set up so all we had to do was enjoy some drinks / snacks and get to taking our pictures. We even got to enjoy a little of cocktail hour! All of our guests were incredibly impressed with all aspects of the venue from start to finish. The castle itself was great and guests loved the different rooms and patio (which was warm and enjoyed by many guests despite being 30 degrees and raining outside). The food was amazing - guests loved the comfort food station, so many passed hors d'oeuvres, beautiful salads and dinner, and delicious Italian cookies and cake. What a perfect place to get married.  Whitby is truly a beautiful wedding venue - the castle is so special and unique.   In addition to the beautiful setting, the team at Whitby running and organizing our wedding was spectacular.  They really went above and beyond.   Ralph, Will, Rosa and the rest of the team at Whitby are such a pleasure to work with.  They are so friendly and extremely organized - from planning every detail in the weeks leading up to our wedding to the wedding itself, everything ran so smoothly.  We had a few unique requests in terms of the schedule of the wedding/reception and the team at Whitby was so accommodating and flexible.   The night of the wedding felt so easy - Ralph did a great job ensuring everything ran on time and smoothly.  It felt like no detail was overlooked - on day of the wedding the team at Whitby handed me a plate of all the appetizers so that i was able to eat without having to think about it which was such a little detail but made a huge difference.  The team at Whitby does such a great job orchestrating the event - I was able to enjoy my evening and have a blast without having to worry or even think about about any of the logistics of the night. Besides teeing it up for 18 at the Rye Country Golf, there are not many things I'd rather be doing than saying a few words about the Whitby Castle. If you and your loved one are looking for a wedding venue, look no further. This is will put all your anxiety to rest when searching for the perfect venue. First a few words about the space itself. It is a castle. This is the real life Super Mario, Princess Peach scenario. While most of us grooms are arguing about whether the Mets or Giants will win the wild card, or what dumpster to get food out of, our beautiful wives have been planning for their wedding day since they were kids. I could not have been less picky when looking for our wedding location, but when we stepped foot onto the grounds of the Whitby Castle, we BOTH knew this is where we wanted to have our lifelong wedding memories. . The building itself is breathtaking. From the grounds surrounding it to the regalness of the inside, it is stunning. Ralph, the maitre'd is the person you want pulling you up by rope if you find yourself dangling over a cliff. He treated us with the upmost respect and graciousness. I have never seen such accommodating customer service, anywhere. He not only stepped up to the plate with delivering on everything he said he would, he sat back on a 3-2 curveball, and hit a walk off homer. He truly is a man of his word and made our special day that much better. His staff, particularly a young lady named Katie, who was unbelieveable at her job, were outstanding. They truly exhibited the 3 E's I live by: Efficiency, Empathy, Enthusiasm. The attention to detail was unfathomable. Our cocktail hour was above and beyond what was advertised. We had a party of about 160 friends and family, and all were satisfied with just this part of our wedding. The food was delicious, well portioned and the drinks were flowing. I had to check my pulse after having the baby lamb chops, they were outstanding. The views outside were breathtaking, we lucked out and it was a beautiful evening. The dinner options were incredible, with the waitstaff being the friendliest, most efficient I have ever seen. As the groom I did not have time to sit and enjoy as much as I had liked to, but they made sure my glass and belly were always full. I truly recommend you stop looking at other wedding venues and chose the Whitby Castle. Wedding venue shopping is very stressful, do yourself a favor and stop here. Whitby Castle was the first venue we looked at for our wedding and after a tour and meeting we booked that day. The attention and service the staff gave to us was simply unprecedented. Throughout our engagement, I would email with random questions (a lot) and they were always answered right away. In the weeks leading up to our wedding, Ralph and his team were superstars - they made sure every single detail we wanted was achieved. The day and night of our wedding was absolutely perfect. We did not have to worry about anything. The food was incredible, the dance floor was the perfect size (214 people), and the service was 5 stars. I have to split this review up into a few parts. Booking consultant - 5 stars. Linda was helpful, cheerful, positive, efficient, and responsive through every step of the booking process. I got a meeting quickly, contract was painless, and balances were calculated accurately. No surprises. It was a pleasure working with her. Maitre d' - 3 stars. During our first meeting, Ralph seemed to be very detail-oriented with all his comprehensive checklists. He then sent me an erroneously calculated invoice (Linda had already sent me the correct invoice days earlier) and was unable or unwilling to comprehend my corrections. He was a no-show on the Tuesday before the wedding when I was supposed to drop off my wedding stuff and was completely unapologetic about it. I had driven two hours to get there and all he said was "Can you come back a few hours later?" He realized literally 10 minutes before the ceremony that he did not have the processional list, something that he should have figured out days beforehand (probably needs another comprehensive checklist for himself eh?). He told the florists he would have someone bring me my bouquets, but no one did. As a result, I completely forgot about my flowers for pre-wedding pictures (my number one regret!!!!!!) and I had to have a bridesmaid go hunting for them 10 minutes before the ceremony. He did not have enough towels on hand to wipe off the chairs in case of rain, which I warned him was forecasted the entire week. A few of my guests even took things into their own hands and wiped with rags from their cars. The one positive thing I can say is that he is excellent at keeping calm and not making a big deal of things. When the florists were being difficult and refusing to help the team move my arch indoors because it was raining, he told the bridesmaids not to tell me about it so I wouldn't stress out, which I appreciated looking back. Overall, I would say the wedding went smoothly as could be expected despite the rain and all my frustrations with Ralph. When the call was finally made to move the ceremony inside (my husband had already been running around frantically for about 20 minutes trying to figure out what's what), the amazing team at Whitby moved the ceremony indoors in record time and it was beautiful. Bridal attendant - 3.5 stars. She was friendly, but probably could have done more than she did. She did get me some food from downstairs but just the easy-to-get stuff, like from the pasta and carving stations. It would have been nice to try even one of the passed hors d'oeuvres. Grounds and venue appearance - 4.5 stars. The castle is grand-looking and the golf course provides a lovely backdrop to cocktail hour, which takes place on a recently renovated and well-maintained patio. The ballroom is pretty, but the setup is a bit awkward because there are two connected rooms so some tables have obstructed views of the dance floor. The bridal suite is decorated nicely and the meeting room with the long table in it is gorgeous, especially when the light is streaming into the windows. Food - 5 stars. I didn't try much of the food, but what I did try was yummy. Pasta was good and al dente. The hot soup appetizer (carrot ginger) was hot and delicious. The salmon was tender and flavorful. Prime rib portions were the size of my head. I heard good feedback from my guests about the food, and there was more than enough to stuff everyone's tummies. read more

We got married in February of 2016 at the Whitby Castle. My wife and I selected this location because it wasn't something either of us had heard of before and we love the mix of old and new at the venue. The castle has a tremendous amount of character and the ballroom is elegant, new and beautiful. We loved the idea of having the ceremony in the ballroom with those big bright windows looking out on the golf course and sound inlet. Pre-wedding planning, via Linda, was easy. She laid out all of the details we needed to coordinate with her early on and was always very responsive via phone or email. She took care of venue tours, the menu, vendors, tasting, etc. It was all well organized and easy to choose from. As we got closer to the wedding Ralph got involved as our day-of maître d'. He went over, in fine detail, every piece of the wedding from layout, to ceremony, to music, speeches, etc. He always listened to any tiny thing we wanted to add or subtract from the plan and updated the schedule of events dozens of times without complaint. Day of, the wedding went off without a hitch. I can honestly say I've never been treated so well by a wait staff in my entire life, and all our guests have said the same thing. For anything we asked for, (from a drink, or a lost shoe), Ralph would jump into action as if someone's life was on the line. The next day when we went back for our cake toppers, Ralph had leftover food for us to take home as well! That is the type of service you want from a maître d'! Two months later all I can say is that Whitby exceeded all of our expectations and there wasn't a single thing that didn't go as planned. Linda and Ralph, as well as the wait staff, are all amazingly professional and accommodating people. The food, atmosphere and execution were all top notch and I would recommend this place ten times over. I hope we get to go to another wedding there some time soon. read more
