Wonderful place! Lines were long along the main street in Carnaby (Kingly St), and we were lucky to get a place at Pix. Odd to have Spanish food in England, but all of our trad British meals were very so-so. I started off with a sangria, my companions with negronis. We were all in heaven after a long flight from San Francisco and a train ride down from Penrith. Our two hot pinxos were the diablo meatballs and patatas bravas. Both yummy. These were brought to our table. The cold pinxos had to be taken from the bar. The cauliflower with onions and romesco, piquillo stuffed peppers, minted peas topped with pea shoots, fried olives, and deep fried bacalao balls were all lovely. I hate to leave a bad review when some things were exceptional... however... I feel I must. I had 6 items and only 2 were good. That's not acceptable. The cod bites were blah. The salmon on toast was literally described as cat food on bread by one other guest. Everything came out of one plate and the person who dropped it off didn't quite know what everything was so it was difficult to get the right item to the non-meat eaters in our group. (Especially since 3 items looked the same). Nothing was hot, more like above warm when the hot apps arrived. The quince coated chorizo and manchego cheese bite was an exceptional bite! The crab Bon bons also exceptional. The sangria was like sugar water, the cocktail was weak (but the bartender remedied that - thank you) but the lychee and ginger martini was exceptional. Maybe it was just late at 7:45 on a Sunday night but it seemed they didn't care after a busy weekend. The final straw was watching a staff member eating from the cold bar right behind the counter and not wash their hands. In a time when Covid is still around, I'd hoped the hygiene would be a bit better and they'd be a bit more sympathetic to cleanliness and people's health concerns. Our server was lovely and great to chat with ... but as a whole. We left hungry and not whiling to try another round of menu selections. Great find on first day in London. The all you can tapas for 15pds was amazing. The food is very tasty and presentation is lovely. Small place but was slow so not an issue. The staff is friendly and even brought some tapas out to us hot out of the kitchen before sitting out on the bar area for all the customers. You serve yourself and go back as often as you want. Booked a table on the phone an hour before we went there as I had read that the venue was quite small. When we arrived, our table was free and the waitress was very friendly and explained to us how it works in the tapas bar. The tapas were really nice and not too expensive. Also we had a gluten free and vegetarian guest, and the waitress brought food she could have to the table before even putting it where you get the food. Absolutely fab tapas and a quick way to have a perfect meal. We went on New Year's Eve (must get reservations) and were in and out in 1/2 an hour! They kept. Ringing fresh tapas out from the kitchen and so many lovely items to try. This is a concept popular in Spain--not just the tapas, but each item has a stick in it, one of two sizes. Love the concept but the food is just meh. Came here because our other 4 options had long waits and we had a show to get to. We stumbled on this place because it had tables available. You get your own food and collect the sticks in a glass, then they add up the sticks when you pay. The fried olives, shishito peppers and meatballs were ok. But the fried cod balls tasted like faintly fishy dough balls and were disappointing. All the bruschetta variations were meh. Nothing stood out as amazing so we didn't even bother with dessert. This was one of the many cute places on Notting Hill. We stopped here because of the atmosphere; it seemed full of young people and you can't go wrong with tapas. We were seated outside; all the "waitstaff" were young, funny, and friendly. They explained how it works -- you take a plate and whatever you want from the bar and drop the sticks into a can at your table and at the end they tally that to calculate your tab. What can I say? This is the place you didn't know you were looking for. Let's see. Pix is best described as a party this keeps on going. It's got a very unique business model that I haven't seen anywhere else. Kind of like the all you can eat sushi boats where you grab what you want when you feel like it, but with Spanish tapas instead. Really, if you walk past the window, you can't help but notice all the enticing small plates ready and waiting to be eaten inside. Perfect when you're hungry and want a lot of variety and don't want to have to wait for it. On top of that, they have great drinks and very friendly and fun staff who keep the drinks and merriment flowing. No fuss, no frills, just pop in and enjoy yourself. Stopped by for tapas and sangria on a weekday. They have four sangria options (red, white, pink, and sherry) and I opted for classic red. While the price was on the higher end, the glass was massive. Highly recommend the red sangria - it was on the sweeter side and was served with a lot of fresh fruit. The pinchos format was a unique experience, as you pick whatever tapas you want from the counter and pay for them all at the end. Fair warning, it's easy to spend a ton on the small plates if you're getting enough for a meal. For a snack though, picking a couple of tapas was the way to go. I had the cod croquetas, which were great. There was ample selection of tapas from the start, and I noticed new tapas being rotated in throughout the hour-plus I was there. Overall excellent sangria and food and would love to try more; knowing I'd easily need 4-5 tapas to fill up, I'd go for the 15£ unlimited tapas deal during weekday lunch. read more

Didn't do the tapas but came for the speakeasy bar downstairs - called Rooms by the hour. Definitely a great idea, you're in cosy little private booths with a curtain to close them off, a dimmer switch to control your lighting and a little TV that shows 70s porn when you press a button. All sounds great so far, and perfect for a date! I think the cocktails themselves let it down a bit though. The bartenders were the same as the restaurant upstairs and clearly not mixologists. Nice, but your average - slightly over sweet and mainstream - fare. If they sorted that out I would be there all the time! read more

My love of cold food is well documented. To clarify, I love, love, love spicy food. I just like the temperature of my food cold. Spicy cold food. Sounds disgusting. Tastes delicious. So you can imagine my excitement when I walked into Pix for a quick lunchtime nibble and rather then having to wait for my tapas to arrive, there were an array of Basque-style pintxos sitting and waiting to be plucked up from the bar. Plump juicy olives, meatballs, quince-coated chorizo on manchego cheese, pork belly with apple and smoked potato, cod and crab croquetas, Iberico ham and zucchini... and that was just in the initial grab-sesh. I noticed a beautiful display of Spanish wines, and as we were the only people sitting along the window, we got to sample a few cocktails they were testing. Not a bad way to spend an afternoon, hey? If you've never enjoyed this Northern Spanish treat, pintxos are different from tapas in the way they are presented and eaten. While tapas are more of a sit down, get cosy, fork-frolicing long-term affair, pintxos are more of a social butterfly -- reasonably large, but individual bites consisting of a small slice of bread with a wide variety of Spanish goodness on top, served on a long, thin skewer. (Pintxo = spike. Clever, huh?) If this is blowing your mind, compare pintxos to a sushi-go-round where you're grabbing, nibbling, grabbing again and then being charged per colourful plate, rather than a sit down, order from a menu sushi restaurant. Or you could just go and check it out for yourself! (That goes for Pix and Basque Country alike.) read more

Having been to Bilbao in northern Spain and experienced the local Pinchos bars this is the first time I have found something similar in London. These bars are basically like wine bars that have plates of single portion foods laid out on the bar. You ask for a plate and then take items from the bar without paying. Pinchos means spike, so all the food is served with a stick in it, this means you settle up when you leave by handing back the sticks from the food you've had. The food I had was ok, but not to the same standard as that in Spain. There was a fairly limited wine selection too, perhaps 5 bottles of red. Pix is a very decent tapas bar mini-chain exclusive to London. I've visited the Covent Garden (Neal St) and Notting Hill locations. The concept is great. You sit down, make yourself comfortable, maybe order a drink from the waiter, then get up to pick out your tapas. They offer a range of traditional tapas like albondigas, cured meats, chorizo and vegetable options which are all skewered. You collect skewers as you go, making as many trips as you'd like to the counter with the constantly replenished food. At the end, you pay for skewers and drinks and voila. It's a great option if you want some authentic tapas at your own pace. I generally like the concept of Pix, but beware, the space is very small and can feel like you're packed like sardines in a can or the tube on your morning commute, so not always the most pleasant of dining experiences. I wouldn't recommend this for groups (unless you book out the entire restaurant), and would always advise booking ahead. read more

This concept is totally refreshing and I'd love to see something similar stateside. The decor is done right - exposed filament lighting, lots of what appears to be reclaimed wood and the entire front of the space is glass so you can people watch as shoppers pass through Covent Garden. It is b r i l l i a n t!!! Numerous savory and sweet dishes are laid out for your enjoyment - tapas style! Every small dish that we sampled was full of flavor. My only complaint is that at the time there were a large amount of fritters, which are of course fried...BUT all the food is on a rotation so you can just sit back and enjoy another glass of wine while you wait for some new selections. The following items were consumed (in order of tastiness): - Seared Tuna on toasted bread - Chorizo w/ manchego Cheese - Ham and tomato on toasted bread (lovely thing strips of smoked ham) - Spinach and Sweet Potato 'cakes' - Aubergine Fritter w/ Cherry Tomato - Olives and tomatos There is a bit of an honor system involved. Each selection comes with a 'pick' stuck in them and this is how your meal is totalled up at the end of your grazing session. My American fiancé was visiting and we were stumbling around covent garden when we discovered Pix! This place has a really unique concept. Everything is in small portions and you can pick up which food items you want to eat from the bar area. The total cost depends on the number of cocktail sticks that you accumulate. I think they may need a better system for this- it's a little too trusting in my opinion since it would be easy enough for customers to discard the sticks and avoid paying the full cost of what they ate (!) If you're American it's probably the most expensive tapas place you'll go to in London due to the tiny sizes. for average people expect 4 to 6 large pix and a couple small. But only part suggesting it was the name and the bite sized portions speared through with a wooden toothpick. Very limited selection of tapas style nibbles. Inspired by the pintxo bars of Barcelona, Pix offers loads of different food options with only two prices. Those with small sticks sticking out of them cost £2.25 and the big ones £3.25 which makes adding up your bill super simple. After a couple portions of patatas bravas to share between us while we waiting for drinks we checked out the days offerings. I went with the Serrano ham on tomato bread, diablo meatballs, Serrano ham & bechemal croquetas and the four cheese fritter. Some items were better than others and while the meatballs were delicious the bread that came with it and also the Serrano ham was a bit of a let down. My absolute favourite dish however were the cheese fritters, crispy on the outside while still being wonderfully gooey on the inside - truly delicious! I could have quite happily gone back for more but of course wanted to save room for not only the cava we were drinking but a cheeky little pudding too! The churros with chocolate sauce were the bomb and an absolute bargain at the short stick price. I may have got sugar absolutely EVERYWHERE trying to eat these in a half polite manner but man were they worth it. The sauce wasn't really a sauce though, more like milkshake which made an excellent chaser at the end of the meal. In total the bill came to around £20 each including drinks which for central London is pretty much unheard of. I for one am a definite convert! read more
