The Bird: an elevated Vieux Carré/ Sazerac style drink
    Rob K.

Cozy Basement bar in with inventive cocktails, live music, and tasty bar snacks. Lucky enough to sneak in solo on a Saturday night. There's a £6 cover to support the live music, but this is not a "grab a quick drink" experience , so was happy to spend some extra ducats on the musicians. Extensive cocktail menu catering to a wide variety of tastes, from spirit-forward to more fruity and fizzy. Some of the recipes and presentations are over the top, but everything I had was a sensory surprise so am respecting their attention to delivering a well-crafted, balanced drink. They will also make classics. Had to only wait outside briefly and was seated at a great table near the bar. Service was attentive throughout the evening, even though the place was at capacity. Live music added a lot to the ambience, but wasn't too loud to drown out conversation. Tried two bar snacks--tarallini and salamini--which were delicious and generous considering the £3 price, and paired really nicely with the cocktails I had. Pricey? Sure, but considering the overall experience and level of craft, I think it warrants the higher price tag. Would definitely go back.

Incredibly cool bar in Soho. Basement vibes keep it dark and intimate. Live music where everyone gets a good seat. Not to mention the cocktails being incredibly delicious. My favourite was a tomato gin drink that was summery, vegetal and different from anything I had tasted. Menu is really cool taking you through the decades and which drinks came about when. If you're having trouble deciding, your waiter is full of helpful suggestions. Will definitely go back next time I'm in the area.

Drinks: 5 stars Ambience: 3.5 stars Value: 3.5 stars Service: 3.5 stars This is a fun cocktail bar with some impressive awards. A friend of mine who lives in the area took me here, and I had high expectations coming in to the experience. The good: the cocktails, as expected, are fantastic and creative. I'm a sucker for a cocktail with a show, and there are many of those here. The value is decent as each drink packs a punch. The bad: it is incredibly noisy here - though perhaps it was our fault for booking during the live music period. It was hard to hear people sitting less than 2 feet away from me. Plan accordingly if you want to be able to have conversations while you're drinking. Service was also somewhat slow - it took a while to order and we spent a decent amount of time looking for our server to pay/order more. For a small place, that surprised me. Overall, if you love cocktails, definitely add this to your list! Make sure you make a reservation as well.

Great bar for fun and unique cocktails! I would not recommend coming as a larger group as they're sticklers for the booking time. We were a party of 7 and the waiter was continuously reminding us that our booking was only for 2 hours. It seemed significantly less, "here's a warning so you can get a drink order in" and more "hurry up so you don't overstay your welcome". They have live music starting at 9.

I love a good speakeasy. Unsuspectingly sandwiched between a few take-away eateries, Nightjar is a gem! Drinks: Amazing! We ordered at least 7 diff drinks on the menu. I didn't always like the garnish but 90% drinks were a delight. The flavors were smooth and, at times, unexpected in a good way. Service: Efficient and nice enough. We got in just in time to order for last call. I wish they would have let us have more drinks/stay longer, but I'm not docking too much because they still let us in. Ambiance: Classy, classic, and a little clandestine. It's a speakeasy, which I absolutely love. We came on a Sun with a light crowd and didn't see live music, so it's probably a vibe when its in full form. Awesome and would go again.

This speakeasy was one of the highlights of our trip to London. Really cool place with great cocktails, vintage spirits, and great live music. They have a great list of cocktails to choose from and also a unique list of vintage spirits some of which are close to a 100 years old. Make sure to get a reservation as there is a long line for walk ins on a Friday or Saturday night. Also there is a small cover charge that is added to your bill but it's well worth it. The live music is great. Will definitely be back to this place next time I'm in London

I am an avid connoisseur of speakeasy's all across the US. To find one of the most spectacular speakeasies I've ever been to in the UK was inspired and incredible. The drinks weren't overly expensive compared to the average US price for a craft cocktail bar. The drinks were incredibly delicious and beautifully balanced. On our 7 day trip we came here the first night and plan to try a different drink every single night we're here. The ambience was quiet and soft on a Tuesday night, while I don't know what it's like on the weekends yet as I do know they offer live music, it was a night quiet getaway from the normal loud music and hustle and bustle of city life. I, as an avid speakeasy goer in the US am so incredibly proud and pleased beyond belief that I found this incredible and beautiful bar. I can't wait to go back every single day of my vacation.

If you are looking for an unique place to have a cocktail this is the bar to go ! The cocktails are indeed pricy but affordable. You will pay the originality of the mixes and the charm of the bar. It's a secret bar hidden in Old street. You will travel back to the prohibition time, where alcool trade was secret. We ordered several different cocktails, two were very original: the Icelandic Mary and the Beyond the Sea. The ingredients on the menu could seem weird but the taste was amazing! Myself went for a tequila cocktail, spicy and refreshing, the Huacatay.

Maybe we chose poorly from the menu, but I didn't care for any of the drinks we tried. Live music was fab, but not all seats have a view of the band. Not a place I'd recommend.

Creative cocktail menu + innovative presentation + cute space + live music = THE BEST cocktail lounge I have ever been in my life so far. Truly a must visit in London! So much fun! Do make reservation ahead!

Vintage spirits, creative cocktails, and live music. Nightjar is the dark, sultry escape from Shoreditch you need in your life. Book ahead or take your chance as a walk-in, either way the staff will try to find a spot for you and your date/group of friends as quickly as possible so you're one step closer to that signature cocktail. Once seated, you're given water and a cute cup of popcorn to hold you over. You'll need it, given the menu is an extensive collection of time-series cocktails ranging from pre-prohibition to post-war. You can select individual cocktails or try a bowl if you're feeling like a heavy night. If you're unsure of what to order, ask the helpful wait staff for suggestions. And check ahead for what's on. There are scheduled live music acts that may suite your fancy. All in all, fantastic bar right outside the Old Street station. Highly recommended if you're in the area!

Nightjar was my favorite bar experiences in London and for sure is also one of the best cocktail bars I have ever visited. I would strongly recommend booking a reservation a few weeks in advance, especially if you are trying to get in when they are doing live music (after 9pm). They have a definitive speakeasy feel, the entrance is discreet and can easily be missed. Security is at the front door to check your name off the list, so don't expect to get in via a walk in. The have a decent selection of small bites/tapas to much on. I enjoyed the burrata as well as these little ham and cheese bites. The table set up isn't ideal for a full meal or if you are hungry though, for the most part they are all fairly tiny. Without going into details about the exact drinks I ordered, because that's part of the experience, I will say that I found their menu design to be superb. I enjoyed how they classified cocktails by time period and gave rational around the drinks of that day. For example, the "post war" drinks tended to be of the Tiki variety. The drinks themselves were delicious, not only perfectly crafted, but the presentation was off the charts. These are cocktails worthy of your instagram feed!

I am NOT surprised that this is considered the no.1 cocktail bar in London according to the users of Foursquare! The drinks are amazing as well as the staff and quirky theme! I liked The London Mule the best. A must try if you're in London!

In 9 out of 10 interactions, the staff were genuinely excellent--warm, attentive, and clearly trained in the fine art of making guests feel like royalty (as you'd expect at this price point). There are multiple restaurants and bars to choose from, a steady stream of live music drifting through the late afternoons into the evenings, and quite possibly the best cleaning and turn-down service I've ever encountered--truly next-level pillow fluffing. Now, my one gripe: the light--or lack thereof. Despite having three decently sized windows, they're covered in a mysterious film that blocks natural light more effectively than blackout curtains ever could. It gives the rooms (and oddly, the lobby too) a slightly subterranean vibe--perfect if you're a vampire, less ideal if you're someone who enjoys knowing whether it's day or night.

We had a party of 13 so I understand there would be somewhat of a wait and that the whole Dining experience might take a while. We dined on a Tuesday night and the place was quite busy! It took at least 30 minutes from sitting down to get our drinks and another 10 on top of that for them to bring out some bottles of water. It seemed like our server was training someone new. They could have been more efficient, but it took a long time for them both to go around the table and enter in our orders. We were at a work after hours function so we all ordered from the 3 courses for 45 quid option. All of the starters sounded good, but I was slightly disappointed in the drunken dumplings as there were only 2, but the presentation was cool with them pouring the broth into the bowl at the table. I wish I had ordered the cheddar and shrimp toasties as they looked quite good! This place has awesome & fun cocktails, hence the Alchemist name. I didn't realize this at first so ordered a Mai Tai which was not nearly as exciting as some of what my colleagues ordered. Second time around I ordered the red zombie which came out smoking with a test tube vial of absinthe to add in! Definitely cool, but also a bit strong. I had the ribeye steak for my main. It was delicious! The cauliflower and potatoes very good too. Had the next level chocolate brownie for dessert. My only thought is it could have used a bigger scoop of ice cream compared to the size of the brownie but it was delicious! So good, in fact, that I had to finish every last crumb. The ambiance was nice. The bathroom was clean, but a little hard to locate. All in all, I would definitely come back if in the area again.

Drinks are creative, whimsical, fun and playful. I'm not much of a drinker so I was concerned this would be a bit much for me, but this is about the experience, the drinks werent too big or overly boozy, or anything. The themes from the 39 euro tasting menu are: 1. Cocktail history. This is the most traditional drink direction 2. Naughty childhood. Drinks are candy and dessert based. Not necessarily overly sweet so don't worry about that. 3. Nature. 4. West meets east. Asian themed drinks. This was most creative and I wish I got this one. 5. Gourmet. French themed. Upon walking in, you are greeted and in awe of the beautiful sitting area with its amazing stained glass dome. I found myself in awe each time I walked through. The rooms are also exceptional. Very tastefully decorated and not over the top, as some other higher-end hotels seem to be, lately. I also found that the cleaning service and turn-down service were magical. I don't know how they seemed to know when I had left my room, but upon my return it was always clean, and at night the turn-down service was a lovely surprise to find a small mint and a linen mist on my pillow. Now let's talk about something which is an often-overlooked feature of a hotel stay: the breakfast. This is typically a throwaway perk that anyone who travels a bit understands. At best, it's a spread of cereals and maybe a bagel or two. Most of the time it's served in a crappy lobby with coffee that has been sitting there for hours and servers who want to be anywhere else but there.  It usually screams, "Eat fast.  Please leave." Not here. Oh no. Even the breakfast is next level here. Sure, it contained all the normal things you would expect, such as bagels, toast, and cereal, but then they took it to the next level with some beautiful doughnuts, sliced meats and some cheese, yogurt with all the toppings you could want, and a beautiful selection of sliced fruit. However, what really made the breakfast experience phenomenal were the people. Specifically, Amesh, Epon, and Mohin. Each morning when I would walk through the doors, I would be greeted, and they would immediately take a coffee or tea order to go make it themselves. They were also incredibly friendly and attentive. I found their smiles infectious and a great way to start the day. This type of attitude was prevalent amongst all the staff.  They were simply the friendliest people of my day, and that really meant a lot when you are thousands of miles from home, in a city you don't know, by yourself.  Thank you!
