The epitome of awesome, this Aldgate-based speakeasy is something straight out of Charlestown, Carolina during the depression (in a good way)!
The Bootlegger has really committed to the theme, and the marriage was fruitful - bringing us dirty jazz, 1920's gangster inspired cocktails, and brace-wearing waiters. Think candles, an old piano, a working gramophone, and other eccentric vestiges of antiquity. Drinks are served as they would have been in the good ole moonshine days - in crystal decanters, teacups, flasks within books. Such is the attention to detail that even the patio area outside has barrels instead of tables.
Behind the vintage photograph archives and thoughtfully sourced decrepit furniture is wicked good night. It's open late (3am) and the live music is everything from bluegrass jazz to alternative renditions of oldies you've heard. It's a great night out and because there's no signage it doesn't get too crowded for its size. Now shhh and drink up. read more
