We visited Pittsburgh Blue on a Friday prior to seeing a show at the Mayo Civic Center a block away. We had reservations for 4:30, and I'm glad we did, as our meal took a full 1.5 hours and by the time we left, the large restaurant was packed. This is a popular place! Upon arriving, it was noted that our visit was for my husband's birthday, and he had well-wishes throughout our time there. We started off with some appetizers and drinks. We did the four-set of rolls along with the lamb pops. I'm a home baker and a bread snob, and these rolls had a fantastic, fluffy texture. The top was covered with butter, and the rolls came with a generous bowl with more butter, as is only right. The lamb pops were exquisite. Perfectly cooked, and the chimichurri was fantastic. My husband ordered ribeye for his main, and it was perfectly cooked. I had the crab stuffed shrimp; this was rich but not too rich, and it was extraordinary, definitely not something I would make at home! For our sides, we shared the broccoli and cheese sauce and French fries. The broccoli looked like it was just steamed, but really had an incredible smoky flavor that paired well with the thick cheese. The fries were exceptional, too, and the accompanying dip was sweet, cheesy, nutty, salty, and just plain divine. I wish I knew the name of it, because wow. Our meal was finished with the birthday treat for my husband, a chocolate mini bundt cake with sauce, spiced nuts, and ice cream. We had great service from Dario, and the overall service was strong. People whisked away our dirty dishes as soon as they were empty, and our water cups were refilled several times. We really had a great experience here! read more

Review stars for the bar only: the service and drinks were fantastic. That $9 double cheeseburger is no joke! Really good and for that price! Ambiance of this place is a little different, there was one full section that is literally small booths, parallel to large booths and it was just kind of weird. The brick walls were fantastic. I bet it gets pretty loud in there. General review (unrated): The price for the rest of the menu for me, was absurd. Coming from Chicago area these prices were on par with places in downtown Chicago. Just didn't really make much sense to me, especially with the recent reviews stating the cook of the steaks was such a challenge. For those prices, the cook of the steak best be perfect. read more

The only nice place open during the March Blizzard of 2026 that was able to feed me after my Mayo appointment, and I'm so glad it was Pittsburgh Blue. I love Pittsburgh Blue whenever I'm in the Twin Cities, and now the Rochester location has won me over too with its fireplace and warm welcoming atmosphere. We got immediate seating at the bar, which was such a relief in the middle of the blizzard. The happy hour menu was excellent, the service was friendly, and everything we ordered was spot on. The double stack burger and the six Parmesan garlic wings were both delicious and an amazing value during happy hour. ( less than $20 total) I also loved the Pittsburgh Blue Old Fashioned and the hot fudge sundae. Definitely will be returning to Pittsburgh Blue! read more

Started with lobster bisque which was fine, not fantastic but pretty good. Proceeded to the garlic knots and crab cake. Both items were disappointing, my fault for not looking closer at menu however funky green sauce and no lump crab. I couldn't identify the seasoning but not good. Garlic knits were extremely stale. Good bar service and fun watching Wild playoff game. read more

We wanted a "nice" meal before heading home from vacation... All three of us ordered the filet -- one rare, one medium rare, and one Pittsburgh blue style. Unfortunately, all three were mixed up. The rare came out Pittsburgh blue, the Pittsburgh blue came out medium rare, and the medium rare came out rare. Normally, this wouldn't have been that big of a deal and we could've just swapped steaks, but we all had different toppings, so that wasn't really an option. We only sent my daughter's steak back because hers was the most incorrectly cooked. The chef came out and commented that "ordering rare was a bold move." She orders her steak rare all the time -- that's simply how she likes it. The comment felt unnecessary, especially when the issue wasn't how she ordered it, but that none of the three steaks were cooked to the temperatures we ordered. We didn't even mention the shrimp cocktail, which seemed like it had been sitting out for quite a while and was noticeably dried out. Our bill was around $300 for the three of us, and at that price point, I expect the food to be good and steaks to be cooked correctly -- especially at a restaurant that specializes in steak. The only reason I'm giving 3 stars is because our waiter and the manager were amazing. They apologized multiple times, offered us complimentary dessert, and genuinely did everything they could to make it right. I have absolutely no complaints about either of them. Unfortunately, we won't be back. It has nothing to do with the wait staff or management -- they were great. But for a $300 dinner, the food execution combined with the interaction with the chef was disappointing enough that we wouldn't return. read more

Total miss..... In town all week Bartenders are top notch Back of house/kitchen zero stars. Order a baked potato and a petite filet. Sorry sir we are out of baked potatoes, ok I will take mashed potatoes, oops we are out as well. Filet shows up raw- ordered medium. Comes back in two pieces and cooked like the desert. No re-fire another steak just reheat the old order. Not a good look. Suggestion. Skip this place and head over to Ruth Chris ( which it pains me to say) read more

I had dinner yesterday and had the worst experience in a fine restaurant in my life. Where do I start the ribeye was so rough I can barely eat it it didn't help there was an absolute insane amount of flies at hour table. Then I went to my hotel and slept a couple hours still feeling hungry I decided to give them another chance and ordered a simple cheeseburger it was made completely wrong room temperature just dripping in blood and I don't eat bacon had tons of bacon on it and how did the manager try to fix things he offered me free lettuce. Never in a million years will I go back there. Our bill was just under a $1000 not worth $50 . read more

I was super excited to try this cause nobody can seem to do Pittsburgh style very few places as a matter of fact. thought they would have this in the bag. They said they could do Pittsburgh blue where it's cold in the middle. I said well I want it warm in the middle, but still want Pittsburgh Style. It didn't quite come like that. It was good but would've been better if it was Pittsburgh style. You would think since it's in their name they would have no problem. We got the hashbrowns the House ones they were OK not great. I would not get them again and the brussels sprouts were a little too sweet for my liking. It was still good. Just not amazing for that kind of money. I expect a little better not gonna lie. Don't get me wrong it is a nice place and would be nice for a date night or just to meet up with friends. Service was slow Which was surprising because they weren't busy at all. read more

Ck out their Happy Hour 4-6 then stay for dinner if you love the food! HH all night on Sundays. I've basically stayed here for a month the last two months due to medical issues. I never tire of the cool fire wall. Prime Instagram options. I love the Capriahani (sp?) & Lamb lollipops & chicken wraps. Obviously most people come for the steaks which look legit. The service in the hotel is always a 10 out of 10. All of the women bartenders I've had have been amazing and most of the men, although there is one who might be my frenime lol They definitely cater to a higher end clientele, including Mayo employees, patients, tourists, families, and locals. Very romantic date night spot although they do have room for groups too. Hotel has a couple museums and sky bridge connections. Parking might be tricky but Galleria across the street. Burger was just ok. I recommend sticking to the steaks. Good wine list. read more

The food was okay, but it wasn't very flavorful or memorable. The biggest downside was the price--it was far too expensive for the quality and taste. Overall, I expected a much better dining experience for what I paid read more

Steaks were excellent along with sides fantastic. Would highly recommend and will be back for sure

Overall disappointing! One of us got the porterhouse steak and it was NOT EVEN 1" inch thick - this is NOT a steakhouse steak! It was ordered medium, but came partially well done. Two of us got the bone-in filet. They were ordered medium rare, and were RAW from about the middle of the steaks going in toward the bone. We sent them back after eating some but they came back the same. The skin on the baked potato was overdone and like leather. Aviation cocktail, excellent. Mashed potatoes, excellent. Service, good. read more

I spent nearly three weeks at Mayo Clinic and stayed at the Hilton Rochester, so I had plenty of time to sample their menu. The "fully loaded" mashed potatoes are outstanding. Best potatoes I've ever had. The strawberry cheesecake (ask for extra strawberries) is also terrific. And I enjoyed their "whimpy burger" which was a good size and not too large and the Wedge salad. Those were my four "can't miss" if you want a great meal. I sat in a booth and looked out the window at the snow. It was lovely and not noisy during Happy Hour. Great service and all around a lovely place to recover from surgery. read more

The service here is amazing, had a wagyu burger, it was probably the juiciest burger I have ever eaten. Our server was attentive and helpful, the ambiance was amazing. We will definitely be back for our next date night! read more

I hurt the chef's feelings by talking 'hostilly'. maybe it was the bogus charge for fresh horse radish to go with his woeful prime rib; a 10 ounce portion that was 1/4-1/3 fat, and him being called on it. its called projection my man. i fully understand prime rib and one cut can be a bit fatty, but not for that price and not when the prices are already high and for it to overtake the piece of meet. The onion soup was delicious, the ice water was cold... otherwise diner's beware. the chef, he was far more hostile, had a chance to fix it rather than me never return and screw the waitress out of her tip. how did that work out for you chef? read more

I had an excellent filet mignon, with an unusual topping of melted cheese and bacon. I like my steaks, medium rare, and it was perfectly cooked. Additionally, I had a side order of brussels sprouts that were both spicy and tangy and very good. The portion size was intended to serve one person, but could have served two. The server was attentive, but not obtrusive. read more

Honestly this place is fine. Good service and decent food but it's not nearly as good as most familiar steakhouses. Nearby Ruth Chris is far better in our opinion and while this place tries hard it just doesn't excite. read more

My visits at Pittsburgh blue have been some of my favorite steak experiences of all time. Their aged steak is super flavorful with a strong age note and super awesome crust that is unmatched. My pictures can't even do this goated crust justice. When you dip your steak in bone marrow or their decadent lobster bisk, it takes it to a whole nother level. read more

Had an amazing steak, loaded mashed potatoes and alcoholic beverages at the bar. Everything was cooked to perfection and the service was impeccable. Went for my birthday dinner after touring Mayowood. Started off with a Cesar salad and french onion soup, both of which were ok but not phenomenal. Hubby and I both enjoyed prime rib, shared an order of wonderfully crispy hash browns, and got a complimentary lava cake dessert. Those were all so delicious! The horseradish sauce that came with the prime rib could've been spread on a flip flop for all of me, and I still would've loved it. Sooooo good. Our server was awesome too! She was right on time for everything. Made for a great birthday experience! read more

I stopped at the restaurant on Saturday July 30,2023 @ 5:15 pm with wife. We were seated and served promptly, had a reservation. The atmosphere was very pleasant with lots of room between tables. Wife had walleye and I had prime rib. Food was excellent and again service was good. Price was a little above average but comparable to more high end restaurants. Was not thrilled with having to order sides Ala carte which really should be part of your meal selection. They also have a service fee of 3% besides the tip you leave for the waiter which the restaurant should absorb not the customer! Our meal minus drinks was $118. Only thing that was concerning was not many people even with a convention in town. Hope they can stay in business. Will try again if in Rochester, Mn. read more

This is a late post, I actually had dinner here on 4/29... was invited to have dinner here and the service was a little slow but on point...there were a lot of us in the dinner party. Not being a meat eater in a steakhouse....so I had the jumbo lump crab cake appetizer with a spinach salad and the key lime pie for dessert. The food was amazing, am so glad that was my choice, it was perfect! The company made the dinner, however I have to say that the staff was very kind, attentive and nice...considering how many people were in our party and all of our different quirky things! Loved the whole food experience here! read more

Great steaks. Not prime grade but for that price it was a great steak. Service is excellent and the restaurant is well decorated.

Elegant dining at its' best!! This restaurant is stunning and has a relaxing , low-lit atmosphere. Our waitress was fantastic and very attentive to our needs and food restrictions. I got the sea bass and my husband got the prime rib. Both were prepared perfectly. Definitely recommend! read more

This place genuinely should have scored more. The service is excellent, the rooms are wonderful allowing the customer to feel great, there is a lot of food and it is expensive. But, we call in for food, and it wasn't that good. The greens were great, the mashed potatoes were adequate, the bacon bits were awful, and the appetizers were good. Unfortunately, despite the really good service, the food, especially the signature filet steak, was fair at best. The million dollar steak was very fatty, tasteless and not anywhere near as good as some recently bought skirt at a third of the price. Again, it deserves to be better...the service was truly great. Unfortunately the staff were disappointed by their boss and his apparent need for dollars at the cost of decent food. It's a shame. read more

We had fish (walleye) and seafood pasta. The pasta was fair but the fish was terrible... literally tasted like cardboard.

Food - top flight steaks for upper flight prices. Table of four and all of us enjoyed the meal. Burger, steaks, fish - all were very good. Service - was great. Accommodated all requests and checked back appropriate amount to fill additional wishes. Ambiance - we went in the summer, so fire displays were not the "cool" attraction at the time but fall, spring, and especially winter it would be an excellent venue to visit. Hey, winter is a 4-5 month season in Rochester so it's a great call. In summer with 85+ degree heat and 90% humidity , it looses some of the appeal for those two months. You'll enjoy it (or at least we certainly did). read more

We were so excited to have this spot connected to our hotel, it did not disappoint. We've dined here before many years ago, and will probably have to go back more often. This location in particular is beautiful, they have the social distancing in place for tables and everyone is properly masked. The cowboy ribeye (bone in) was perfectly cooked to medium rare with the crisp blackened crust, it was delicious. The calamari was also very good, crunchy and seasoned well. So much food and we left satisfied. Great date night! read more

Horrible aside from being over priced. Two of us ordered the same steak medium rare. We got one rare and one medium well. The exact same steak ordered exactly the same and they weren't done at all the same way. For this money I expect them to be able to cook to the correct doneness. The "crisp garlic shell" was mushy and cold inconclusive vegetable matter slapped on top The mushroom side was flavorless boiled mushrooms. To add insult to injury they dropped some ridiculous charge of @ 5% for "sanitary cleaning" or some such. An obvious leftover from covid that they felt they could get away with continuing. If you want to spend this much chris Ruth has to be better. I know chesters is twice as good for half the price. read more

This was the hot new restaurant in town and I have been dying to try it for months! With that being said I have to agree with some of the other reviewers that their prices don't match up with what you are given. To be clear, I'm not afraid of spending some decent money on a really nice dinner but I wouldn't call what I had here a really nice dinner. The steak comes out on its own plate and EVERYTHING else is extra. If you want mushroom on top extra, if you want cheese on top extra, you get the idea. And the steak is pretty much $40 by itself. Then you have to order sides. The family style sides are HUGE so you better make sure everyone at the table likes them or you'll be taking a to-go box home with just sides. To me that's kind of a waste, I would rather the portions be proportional and charge less $$$. Okay here's the real upsetting part -- this place is suppose to be known for its steak, it's a steakhouse! And I didn't think the steak was very good. This was very disappointing. The sides were great and the desserts were great, even the appetizers were good! But the theme of the whole place, the steak, wasn't so good. I really don't know if I would recommend this place, it's very expensive for a mediocre steak and incredibly large portion of sides. read more
