We were celebrating our anniversary and wanted to try something new. I came across Latitude 44 while looking up places. It was easy to get a reservation and on the day, we were greeted and seated promptly! The service was prompt, friendly, and knowledgeable. For starters, we had the lobster bisque and steak tartare. I will admit I was a little apprehensive when ordering the bisque but I'm glad I did! It did everything I needed it to. It was perfectly creamy and tasty, as well as comforting! The tartare was pretty good but we weren't fans of the EXTREMELY crisp "bread" pairing. The main dish was the Seafood Perlou which was almost perfect (the mussels felt off). The cocktails were quite good as well! There were some curious pairings and mixtures on there but they worked very well! Overall, this was a good experience. The food was bland. No flavor in the French Onion Soup. The Shrimp Cocktail had 5 shrimp. The first 2 were good, but the last 3 were chewy and tough. The burger was dry. This restaurant is beautiful and appointed with very upscale chandeliers, linens and decor. It's big and full of light from an entire wall of windows despite being partially below ground level. It's totally handicapped accessible. A very important detail given I was in a wheelchair due to a broken left thigh. This is what brought me to Rochester and The Mayo Clinic. The owner came to our aid in the lobby where we weren't sure what floor the restaurant is on. He handled it. Got me onto the elevator, took us to the first floor, and then to a table where he helped me into a dining chair and spirited away my wheelchair. He helped me feel like any other diner. Our waiter, Rudy was right there to take drink orders. Then returned in a suitable time to take our dinner orders. We all 3 ordered the filet mignon. I also ordered a Caesar salad with an added 6 white anchovies from Spain. Nothing like the canned anchovies I'm used to. They were fresh and delicious. Quite a treat. When we were done with the steaks which were perfectly prepared, nicely seasoned, and generous, it had begun raining hard. The owner came to our table and said he'd take us back to our hotel since we'd "walked" there and there was no sign of an imminent rain. Who offers that? Dave does. He got my wheelchair and bundled us and my wheelchair into his Escalade and took us the half mile to our hotel since we'd we couldn't thank him enough. In addition to the restaurant which is in a 2-story historic castle, there is a private room for private parties that Dave's wife handles. I take my hat off to this enterprising couple. I came in to Latitude 44 on a Saturday night and can't tell this ether of people enough how much I enjoyed this experience with my mother. The host was the owner and immediately we were greeted with a warm smile that made us feel welcomed. Thenn, we were lucky enough to have his younger brother, Joe as our waiter. Everything he recommended looked so good that we had a hard time deciding. For entrees we had the mushroom risotto and the halibut (which Joe said if he could have picked anything would be his choice) andddd yup that was the one for me. So good. I don't always usually finish my plate but I wanted to lick it clean. My moms mushroom risotto was so good, large mushrooms that were incredible, although selfishly I wanted her to try to the short rib bc I wanted to try it. Alas, Twas fine because I did love the mushroom risotto. We started the meal off with the mango burrata and I'll tell yall what, it was delicious...I'd explain it but it's something you have to try if you see it on the menu. I had a mocktail bc I have to fly tomorrow early morning and that was also incredible (got drunk off how good it was, ya know)...I will now explain dessert. The dessert is an expresso creme brûlée, my mom and I fought over whether to get that or the chocolate mousse and I won. Joe said the espresso martini would be good with that and tbh I wish I had done it bc based on the fact that he told me about the halibut and everything else I'd follow him blindly till the depths of the earths core. We went her for dinner to celebrate getting through two days at the Mayo Clinic. Our server was Malcom, who was delightful. He gave great recommendations and told us about the history of the restaurant. Really appreciated his friendly and upbeat personality. I had the seafood perlou, which Malcom explained was like jambalaya with a kick. I loved it. Tons of seafood and great sausage. We also had the walleye which was perfectly cooked. This was my first time at this wonderful establishment! It was awesome! The food was delicious, the service was great and the experience was memorable! I had one of the best Old fashions I had ever had! Highly recommend! The scallops were so tasty and couldn't have been prepared better. And because I could not choose on ONE dessert, I ordered both the crème brûlée and the mousse. Our server brought me plenty of spoons on a lovely serving platter so I could share the treats with my friends! BOTH sweets were excellent choices and highly recommended! My husband and I were in Rochester for the weekend and looking for a nice place for a dinner date. Latitude 44 did not disappoint! The vibes are modern and chic and I particularly enjoyed the open kitchen concept where we could watch the chefs in action. Our server was very personable, attentive, and honestly a hoot! I can't remember his name but he is the guy with no social media accounts. He shared insights into ingredient sourcing and preparation. His genuine enthusiasm elevated our experience. The food was excellent. For the app, we ordered the ratatouille because I have NEVER seen ratatouille as an app. Crisply fried, bite-sized pieces paired with a sun-dried tomato parmesan sauce was a unique twist on a classic dish! For the main, I ordered the scallops. They were perfectly cooked (not rubbery) and plated on a cajun veggie and bacon mix. The corn was freshly shaved off the cob and was delicious. My husband ordered the Ribeye with asparagus as the side and oyster mushroom add-on. The oyster mushrooms were butter-sauteed and the asparagus tasted baked. There was a peppercorn dry-rub on the steak and it was slightly on the saltier side, but did not take away from the flavor. Overall, a really solid steak with little to complain about. For dessert we got the Espresso Crème Brûlée. 1000/10 wow. I would come back for just this alone. It's a must-try. For cocktails we went all out and got the HOLLA AT CHAMOY!, SUMAC THAT!!, BUTTERFLY EFFECT and LA PALOMA PICANTE! While the presentation and names were playful and inviting, the taste, though good, fell slightly short of our expectations. As a self-proclaimed harsh critic, I felt they lacked a certain depth or complexity that matched their names. Definitely did not taste like a $40+ steak. Had better steak at Dennys. The grilled carrots that came with it was great. The salad was good but I was charged $5 for 4 pieces of anchovies. It makes sense when you are such a major hub of healthcare with professionals from all over the globe coming to treat and work with patients. Recently my dad completed a round of chemo/radiation treatments, and on my way home from the cities I was able to stop and see him. While doing so I made sure to reach out to a friend for restaurant recommendations and she suggested Latitude 44. We ended up meeting there for a quick bite and after my weekend of over indulgence, this Buddha bowl packed with veggies and healthy ingredients hit the spot. It is the perfect example of how just because something is healthy doesn't mean it has to lack flavor. Also, how cool was this specialty martini with squid ink?? I couldn't resist... I had to try it. Three of us enjoyed dinner here on a Thursday evening. Upon entering, one is stuck by the stylishness of the interior. Cocktails were classic and strong (Negroni, sidecar, sazerac, etc). The jackfruit "crab cakes" really did have the texture of the real thing and were delicious. The Cajun remoulade was flavorful and fragrant, but the plate could have used more of it. My entree, goat cheese stuffed chicken, was an elegant version of chicken Kiev. This was complemented by lemon accented roasted asparagus. The service level here is high end. Booked 3 months ahead and greeted my wife with Happy Birthday. Great environment in the Castle building for meal or drinks. The Seafood Perlou was a fantastic meal especially if you like seafood. The Benton Ham and rice together have a savory flavor that counters the seafood and is unbelievable! Not a big rice eater, but I would eat just that every day, Cocktails were very good. Tried the Porkerhouse chop - nice size of meat but either I got a bad cut of meat or ?? It was very dry, tough and had a freezer burned taste. Our waiter was tied up with a big party after bringing the main course and after I tried a cut from different spots on the chop, a different waiter came up and asked if everything was OK. I rarely have to say anything and am cautious that it might be my taste, but he was very nice and appreciated that I was not being fussy or rude. He recognized that something was wrong from half way across the restaurant. Great great service!! Replaced quickly with a walleye fillet and was excellent especially with their sea salt. Had the beef broth soup and the cornbread croutons made a non-soup person eat the entire bowl. Jackfruit crab cakes are a must, even for people that don't like seafood. First timer. We have visited many of the best spots including Marrow, Paladar, blue duck and now L44. The decor is sparse but I'm not eating for the decorations. The waiter James was spot on. In point. Attentive. But not smothering. Water was filled always. A small Caesar salad was tasty and quite large. The beet salad was very tasty. Entrees included Lucious gnocchi in a cream sauce and lamb pappardelle with tomatoes. Both were very very good. Suggestions. James should carry a cloth and wipe up the cream spills on the table and also offer Parmesan on the pasta dish. Might have been fun to have some olive oil on the table also. Over all. I still rank Marrow #1 with paladar and L44 sharing second with bleu duck continuing to disappoint on all facets and a distant 4th. Well Done L44. We were visiting Mayo Clinic, and came to Latitude 44 , looking for a delicious steak. We weren't disappointed. My diehard carnivore husband, deemed the filet one of the best he's ever had. I must concur! The outside of the filet had a delicious crust that was perfectly seasoned. The inside of the meat was tender and cooked to perfection! My carnivore husband, commented that he finished his asparagus, and how much he enjoyed it. They were pretty darned good. I would love to know how they are seasoned ...so good!! The veggies, by the way, were included in the price of the meal. I must mention our excellent server Daniel. He was able to guide us to the exact entree that fit our tastes. In addition, he is a sommelier and was able to suggest the perfect wine pairing for our dinner. I wish Latitude 44 was close to where we live in Michigan, however, we will definitely return on our next visit to Rochester! read more

Quality tasting food that was interesting but not some absurd combination of ingredients concocted in a frantic attempt to be hip , as is being done elsewhere . A very nice Cabernet by the glass .
