When my work team travels, we look for an Irish pub. This one hit all the marks. The ambiance is just like the pubs I visited in Dublin. The server was outstanding - she is very proud of where she works and told us a wee bit about the history of the decor, as well as making great recommendations. I can't remember her name but her significant other was the bartender. Happy hour specials: 10 Service: 11 out of 10 Food: 9.5 out of 10 Ambiance: 9.5 out of 10 (needs music!) All the apps were great (the goat cheese bruschetta was my favorite!) and the Dick Titus Commercial was very flavorful. It was missing something so I asked for and received some horseradish. Went for dinner for our anniversary last evening (Sunday). This was our 3rd time here, the previous probably over 1 year ago, and was shocked by how downhill it has gone. First, the young woman who greeted us seemed to want to shuffle us off to bar seating, despite multiple open tables in the main dining, and a couple open tables outdoors (waiting to be bussed when we arrived and still dirty when we left). She was short with us and seemed to rush not only us but with the vantage point we had once seated, literally everyone else who came in. The restaurant was dirty. Dust all over the fixtures, streaks on the glass so bad that they were nearly opaque-- sad, given the beauty in this historic building and gorgeous wooden bar. The waitress was plenty enough, but forgot to bring my salad. When I spoke up as my husband's soup came, it was delivered to the table several minutes later, just as our main entrees arrived. The food itself was still pretty good-- garden side salad was good, the chicken piccata was tasty (very rich) , and husband enjoyed the Dick Titus Commercial sandwich. I love this place. Authentic and delicious treats await any who walk in. The atmosphere is of a modern Irish pub with knickknacks throughout. I wasn't a fan of mine. Over salted, and wilted tasting Mediterranean pasta (gluten free) now it was gf but it was not good pasta. Undercooked and gummy. The chicken it came with was good but it came about 10 minutes after I got my pasta. So that was not great. Our server was sweet but I was a bit upset that I had to wait so long for them to grill up some chicken. My friends got the stew, shepherds pie and corned beef and cabbage. They all seemed to enjoy their meals. The stew was thick and the broth was like gravy thick. He says he was amazing. The portions looked plenty big. My husband and I were staying at the Kahler due to Mayo appointments. We decided to try the Brick House the first night we were there. It was so good we went back the next night! Large portions for lunchtime. My daughter and I shared the chicken tenders and fries with a side salad. This was more than enough for the two of us. No one at the host desk; waited and then had to go to kitchen to get some who didn't greet us but instead threw the menus on table and walked off. She later came back to say it will be a minute even though there was only one other couple in the restaurant. If we weren't so hungry we would have walked out. It didn't get any better - we could hear the same waitress in a heated conversation with a coworker which was totally unprofessional especially when other customers could hear her. I rolled into town with my boss for an engagement and we were hold up (in separate rooms of course) at the Kahler Grand Hotel in downtown Rochester across from the world famous Mayo clinic. I asked Shelly my server which of the following three I should choose: 1) The Jalapeno Burger 2) The Fish and Chips 3) The Grilled Meatloaf Without even a bit of hesitation she said, the meatloaf. So I went with it. If lunch could be a soft sweater, a comfy pair of sweatpants or a warm blanket on a cold day-this was it-the grilled meatloaf felt like a warm, gentle hug on a cold winter day. A hug so grand, yet so gentle, so affirming and nurturing that you are motivated to take a nap, commit to a mission trip to serve people in need, write a note to your grandparents or poem for your lover. Yes, it's just simply that good. Shelly, my server, was pleasant, friendly and attentive and non-obtrusive. OBH was busy, not packed, and the patrons looked as though they were happy and having good discussions. Those in town to visit the hospital (either patients or kinfolks) you'll be well taken care of at the OBH. I recommend you put the joint on your list. A fair and reasonable price for a great lunch out the door for 25 bucks including tip-in these days is a win. Both entrees were excellent along with our app. I usually order the fish and chips, since i really like the pub style fish and chips offered at English pub style restaurants like this one. The last time I was in Rochester, I ordered the fish and chips, and they were good, but not great, a little on the oily side. Other times we were here I have ordered them and they were better. So this time, I wanted to go in a different direction and ordered the stuffed salmon. Our server in the bar said if I was going to order salmon, I really needed to try the pecan encrusted salmon. So based on his recommendation, I went with the pecan encrusted salmon. Wow, so glad our sever recommended it, and I went with it. The crunchy sweet pecans and sauce were outstanding. Wonderful flavors that made the salmon even better. We also ordered the scotch eggs, since I needed a traditional English fix, and my wife ordered the Ruben sandwich. Both were very good. We look forward to our next dining experience here. When we came in, i will admit I was a bit skeptical, since it seemed like they were understaffed, but the food is brought out by other team members, not the server that took the order. I ordered the tenderloin steak and the wild rice pilaf with mushrooms it came with was not good. The Guinness gravy on it was extremely strong tasting with this unpleasant taste, which I'm not sure what it was. It didn't really taste like beer but it had a very overpowering flavor of some sort and I could not eat it. The steak itself was adequate. The "full" ciabatta was very small, especially for the price and considering many restaurants give you bread for free. It came with a paltry amount of butter that looked more like the dregs of someone's butter they were done with than the amount that they would actually give you, even if they were being stingy. I had a wonderful dinner on Thursday evening. There are many options to choose from. I tried the bruschetta and it was wonderful. I had to request new bread because the pieces that accompanied the appetizer had a huge hole that ran throughout the loaf. This made it difficult to spread the bruschetta on it. The mashed potatoes and the cabbage was a perfect compliment to the wonderful meatloaf dinner. I had the Crème Brûlée for dessert and that definitely was worth the drive to Rochester. I live in WI and drove my friend to the Mayo Clinic for various appointments that I knew would take up our entire Friday. I was so happy that I had a great meal to have the energy to take on the following day. The last time that I dined at this restaurant I had a wonderful sandwich called the Dick Titus Commercial. This sandwich is shaved Prime rib and Swiss cheese layered between grilled sourdough. It is served with champ mashed potatoes and smothered with Guinness gravy. This sandwich was so big that I split it with my friend. I still remember the taste of it even though it has been 2 years since I last had it. I am a foodie and I really enjoy good food and great friends to share a meal with. I am so happy that I had the time to dine in your restaurant prior to leaving back home.
