Hubby and I have been on a bit of a mission to find good shawarma plates and wraps in York Region. Don't get me wrong, we still love shawarma row in Scarborough, just not always liking the drive and traffic to get there from Markham. Pita Land is located nearby. Located at McCowan & Bur Oak in Markham within the large plaza that has Fresh Co. (many moons ago it was Sobey's). There was nobody inside when we walked in, only 2 people working. One of the gentleman was busy prepping a catering platter - yes they cater! While the other, younger of the two was serving and cooking the food. We were in a bit of a rush: so we ordered chicken shawarma sandwich wraps. They have daily deals posted, Sunday's deal was 2 large shawarma wraps with 2 pips for $24.99. This is what we ended up ordering. The chicken shawarma was seasoned so well. I did notice a hint of a spicy kick. Not something I often find at shawarma restaurants, but it really added a nice punch to the flavor of the meat combined with the rest of the seasoning. The hummus, garlic sauce and tahini were REALLY good here! They were very generous with the portions. You can add lettuce, tomato, cucumbers, plain onions, onions with sumac, garlic sauce, hummus, tabbouleh and the list goes on! When they finished wrapping our sandwiches they warmed up them up on the heat press. Gave the bread a needed slight warmth. When we were done, and on the way out one of the gentleman who I assume was the franchisee, asked how our meal was. He was super kind and very nice. We let him know everything was great and we would definitely be back. We grabbed a takeout menu as well and he kindly offered us a container of their lentil soup on the house. We have since been back 2x! They also have plates, bowls, sandwiches, burgers, pita boxes, falafel. We did try the falafel as well . 1 star was taken away for this. It was too crumbly and way too small. They also do not give you any tahini or garlic sauce, pickles etc. The flavour and texture were just not there for me. My boyfriend and I have been loyal customers to this Pitaland location ever since it opened, but our two most recent experiences have unfortunately been entirely unsatisfactory. Both incidents stem from the manager's/store owner's consistent failure to confirm toppings, followed by a disrespectful attitude when confronted. During the first visit, he proceeded to put all available toppings into two chicken shawarma wraps without consulting or confirming what we wanted. When we politely pointed out this mistake, he became highly argumentative, displayed a poor attitude, and blamed us for not paying attention to his actions. We were simply asking for the common courtesy of a heads-up before he added the toppings. The second time, I went back solo, and he did the exact same thing, adding all toppings automatically. When I stopped him, he still failed to remove all the unwanted items and continued to give me a dismissive attitude (e.g: we didn't want pickles in our shawarma but the image attached shows multiple pickles that he didn't bother to remove). Beyond the terrible customer service, this lack of consultation poses a serious health and safety risk. His actions could have had severe repercussions if a customer had a severe allergy to one of the toppings he automatically included. This behavior is completely unacceptable. I got the mix sharwama wrap it cost 15 dollars and jalapeños are an extra 39 cents which is absolutely ridiculous. This place is not at all worth it. The shawarma came pretty quickly, great service clean place, the meat was tender, but the way the worker made the wrap was terrible. As you can see the bread was broken and my shawarma was falling apart that's not how you make a shawarma. I think if you want to get more customers lower your price point and learn how to make a shawarma, I would never invest in this franchise nor buy from this place every again, read more

First visit to this newly opened at McCowan and BirOak in Markham. There is ample parking. We tried it out on a Friday for a late lunch around 1230pm. When we walked in there were a few customers. The shop has a lot of natural light, it's fairly spacious with tables and high top seats by the window. We ordered the beef kabob plate. It takes a while to cook the meat because it's made to order. The food tasted fresh and was neatly presented. The servers wore gloves and were pleasant. The only thing I would change is the type of rice used. It tasted watery. It was plain white rice. I would prefer basmati rice with some sauce on it or some other type of rice which was t watery. They also have other food options such as salads, poutine, wraps, samosas and cakes slices. read more

Why are people ripping on this place? I found the food to be great. Excellent portions, great chicken taste (no fatty bits!!), and the veg was fresh. I love their long grain rice too. :) I would prefer seasoned rice instead considering this is pricier than their competitor. You can have 1 of 2 choices for salad dressing: Italian or Greek. I chose Greek because I missed Greek food lol. I love that there are so many options to choose from. It's a tiny bit pricier than O's (iykyk), but it's a great option, especially after gym next door. It's very clean and air conditioned. The staff was nice and answered my questions patiently. It's my second time coming here and I still love it. I really recommend coming here! read more

This location is new but maybe because of this, they're not quite established in their process. It took just over 20 minutes to order and get my food. It wasn't busy on a Sunday evening but they don't take orders until the orders in front of you are complete. You know how subway or Chipotle starts another order after the starting it and then another person down the line helps assemble? They don't really make the customer experience feel very smooth....I wasn't even greeted or acknowledged. The manager/owner (maybe?) was snacking on something while cooking/stirring food on the grill without gloves ; that kinda threw me off.. Okay so the actually food: Food was fine actually. Taste-wise and everything was delicious but it was also quite expensive for what it is and the wait didn't help the overall experience. The large chicken shawarma wrap was $15. Great salad bowls with chicken shawarma. Friendly staff and decent portions. I normally do take out here. Their beef is quite tough compared to Osmow. Good quick and healthy meal. Lentil soup is good too. No problem with parking here at this Freshco plaza. Normally not busy. read more

Catering was amazing!!! I ordered the Chicken Shawarma meal for my extended family for a family event and Pita Land was great! They had open communication with me weeks before my order. They were flexible in increasing the portion numbers to feed my exact numbers. They were also flexible with my pick up time. Finally, it was delicious and everyone enjoyed it! Ordered a small beef shwarma wrap.. got a chicken wrap. For $8.99, i would expect more condiments. My wrap looked like a cheap soft taco from taco bell. I much rather take my money next door to grab a medium pizza. Literally charged me for every little condiment. Tubule, peppers etc.. definitely will not be coming back read more
