Chez Talal - Chicken Shawarma with garlic & tahini sauces. Savoury chicken chunks with sweet sesame, hot peppers & sour pickles.

Heading to nearby Newmarket Courthouse can be a chore from the westside of York Region. But not if there's lunch to look forward to Chez Talal! Following Kris' advice hasn't done me wrong yet, even when his meals are from 2-4 years ago. I guess something can be said for restaurant consistency! There's many rave reviews for the food here so I knew I had to try it out for myself as a fan of good shawarmas, gyros and döner kebabs. The meal here seems quite popular with young & old alike judging by the senior couple and then the mom with strollers. All of whom trekked here shortly after me. Now after visiting, I'm happy to report back that I was not disappointed. It was certainly one of the better shawarmas that I've had. A super friendly young lady at the counter expertly rolled the hunk of meat and veggies together before toasting for the crispy skin. Chicken Shawarma came with garlic & tahini sauces that were savoury though watery. The moist and flavourful chicken chunks melded well with the fresh veggies, sweet sesame, hot peppers & sour pickles for a flavourful affordable meal. It's true, Chez Talal is located at an awkward plaza, but the standalone restaurant itself looks fresh even having an outdoor patio if you're in the mood to watch road traffic. You're in a good mood anyways after a mini-food coma of a meal. Heck even the ordering counter with the strange UV lighting is fun and eye-catching!

I was in the area last weekend and tried this place. This is located inside a small plaza with ample of parking spaces. The lady server was super nice and friendly. Didn't even charge me extra for the garlic sauce!! This taste AMAZING!!! All this (Mixed Beef & Chicken Sharma dinner) for just $14.99 + tax!! There was a LOT of food!! The size was super generous. Comes with a huge pita, lots of meat with choices rice or roasted potatoes and veggies of your choice (there were a lot more selections but I just picked out what I liked) plus a drink. Their hummus and garlic spread were sooo good!!!! I'm not a fan of hummus but really enjoyed the tangy flavour and I think there's also Baba Ganoush (an eggplant spread) mixed in together.

Humongous portions and friendly owner! We grabbed some lunch to go and were thoroughly impressed by the freshness and quality of food. We got chicken shawarma wrap and beef shawarma dinner, both delicious. The dinners were generous with plenty of leftovers. Highly recommend for quality middle eastern food.

Service is amazing , fries are golden and the Garlic sauce needs to be sold by the POUND. Lastly look at the size of these shawarma wraps !!!!

I came at noon and they only kebab items available. Which is strange since it's lunch service... The kofta kebab is pretty good, lots of rice and salad provided. I couldn't finish it in one sitting. It's a small place, limited seating. The service was friendly though. Overall maybe 3.5 stars... I just can't get over the fact that there was a limited lunch menu options during lunch. On the spectrum of kebab/shwarma places, this one is right in the middle, I have had worst and I have had better.

I thought osmows was the only good shawarma around me, but I was wrong! I enjoyed everything about this place. Seems like the owner really cares about the hospitality of this place. I loved how the place was decorated. It was decorated with Christmas decorations. Staff was very warm and friendly. I got the mixed shawarma. Everything in the plate was so generous. The meat, the salad, vegetables and sauces. Meat was also tender and it was very tasty with the sauce and rice. Will definitely be back

Best shwarma in Newmarket, always my go to the portions are huge so you get a bang for your buck, this combo is enough to feed me for 2 meals (i just scoop it in a separate bowl) for $15 you get all of this, your choice of drink and pita bread. You can't go wrong, also the dip is creamy and delicious. Please support the smaller businesses and if youre in Newmarket check this place out, its always busy but I can see why

Given the length of time that Davis drive has been a war zone as they have made accommodations for the new bus lanes there is no way that Chez Talal should be as popular as it is - I mean you couldn't access the businesses for over a year. Yet here they are, a ring stand alone shop in the same parking lot as a host of run down businesses (and a drug/alcohol rehab clinic) rocking solid star rating with higher than normal numbers of photos and reviews for the Newmarket area. Baffled and curious was I? Yep. So I pulled in. It's a small footprint, set up like most shops of its kind. A. Counter you walk up to and order backed with meat on spits and a grill. I'm fairly fluent in Lebanese cuisine but I asked anyway what they recommended. Without wavering the owner piped up from the back - "Try our chicken shawarma. And once you're addicted, you come back and try everything elae". Sold. And goddamned it. He was right. One of the freshest, most succulent, and moist. Chicken shawarma I've had sincey days living in the "little lebanon" area of downtown Windsor. A place where every business owners tells you that their shawarma "iz beast". And to their credit theyre all right somehow. Amazing food and best of all no nasty after math which I tend to get from shawarma (heart burn, burping. Etc) Everything made here is fresh made daily, hormone and preservative free so you can be confident thatbyiure getting a great meal. Eatcrest Out

The menu is big, delicious, with list of options.

Great service. Great food. Get the chicken shawarma. I personally like the extra chicken. Thank you.

Pretty damn good on my first try. Got a bunch of things, tried a bunch of things and overall thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The owner recommended a fruity pomegranate drink, when I opened it it smelled like medicine but tasted amazing, same with the pear and their mango drink. All amazing. Their portion size is huge and it was definitely worth the amount and was my lunch and dinner.

Lamb skewer with rice, salad, babaganoush and garlic sauce. Oh and hot sauce on the side (WARNING! It's super darn hot)

The food is delicious! Great service. It's a take out kinda place. Serves Lebanese food. I have had the lamb and chicken skewers. But WARNING!! The hot sauce is suicide. I would ask for the sauce on the side and add to your liking. Trust me on this one. I can handle my heat but I have learnt this the hard way! I would recommend this place for sure. Enjoy!

Amazing shawarma in Newmarket!!! I've heard about this new place and had to give it a try. Wide range of Lebanese dishes that are all made fresh to order. The owner is engaged with his customers and has amazing food on his menu. This is a family owned and run restaurant and anything you order on this menu will not disappoint. So here's what we had: Fresh to order Falafel Yes they are! Unlike other restaurants that have them premade and cooked and sitting there, here at Chez Talal they cook them fresh to order. The best falafel I have ever had!! Veggie Supreme All I can say is wow! Vegetables and lettuce and a mix of sauces are combined. He also adds a pomegranate sauce from Lebanon that tastes out of this world and we topped it with beef shawarma. The beef was out of this world!! I have never had a dish like this and one of my favourites. Chicken Shawarma Dinner Fresh juicy chicken shawarma with tahini, garlic paste, vegetables and rice. Plus a pita. Great portion and fresh and delicious. Baba Ganouj Homemade goodness. Topped with special spices and pomegranate seed. A Spinach Meat Pie Spinach, herbs and spices, lemon filled in a home made dough. So good! A Meat Pie Amazing meat and homemade dough. The owner will offer samples, friendly and proud of the great dishes he's producing. The most fresh Mediterranean food I've had in Newmarket and surrounding areas. A real jewel and can't wait to be back!!

Recent visits, I have found they refurnished the space -- it's now much darker, and several smaller tables fill the space now, whereas before, it was filled with long tables and you would be seated beside strangers for your meal. It had a different, lighter and more communal vibe before. Also on recent visits, the staff server are a lot younger -- still warm and welcoming, but with less urgency. So getting assistance takes longer. Although this makes for a nice slow meal, if that's what you're looking for! The food however, is still A+! It's the reason I keep coming back again and again. And why when friends come to visit, Maro's is always in the Top 3 places to try in Halton. They consistently serve up fantastic Lebanese food. If you're dining with a vegetarian -- they will be THRILLED with the options here! I daresay they lead with vegetables here. No one will be disappointed with vegetarian option here -- even the meat eaters. Be sure to check out their drink menu as well. Their cocktails -- and mocktails -- are great. Parking outside is all paid parallel street parking, since it's downtown Oakville. But if you visit on Sundays -- parking is free!

The restaurant is tucked inside a charming little house with a deck out front, string lights & such a cozy feel. When we arrived, it was packed with couples young & old and families, and the whole atmosphere felt low-key, warm & joyful. We ordered wine and a few things from the menu: Fattoush Salad, Sarma (grape leaves), Cheese Borak, dips (hummus, moutabbal & lavash eggplant) and Shish Taouk (chicken kabobs). While there are similarities to Middle Eastern food, there were some subtle differences I really loved, especially the chicken, which was incredibly moist & flavorful, and the Cheese Borak, which I'd never had before and was SO good. Everything we tried was delicious, the service was wonderful, and I would absolutely come back.

The crumb was crumbly, though slightly dry. The beef tasted decent, though it was a little dry.  Ghacourma was alright. The beef was slightly dry. It came on rice which was confusing given the menu description. We got complimentary prepackaged lavash & pita on request to make the sandwiches, but given how simple the flavour was the sandwich didn't work as it was too dry & plain (since the bread was even drier & less flavourful than the rice). The dish was rather one dimensional without any sauce as the beef was very simply cooked. The rice was also simply cooked with pine nuts.
