So "Aurora" and "Shawarma" aren't really the two words you frequently hear in the same sentence. When I was in the area, my intention was to try one fo the great Italian or Persian restaraunts. However, the largely positive reviews and personal recomendations persuaded me to give Shawarma Land a try. I am glad I did. On a saturday afternoon, the restraunt was busy, which is a good sign. There was a small lineup which lasted about 5 minutes. Most patrons were served quickly and took their orders to go. The guys behind the counter were efficient, friendly and respectful. When I try a shawarma spot for the first time, I usually order a fully loaded plate with as much variety as possible. That way, I know exactly what to order if/when I return. With that in mind, I ordered a shawarma plate with both chicken and beef. For the sdies, I ordered rice, potatoes, humus, coleslaw and turnips. I also asked for garlic sauce, tahini and hot sause. The order comes with a grocery store pita. After a very enjoyable meal, I still don't know whether I prefer beef or chicken. Both were tender, juicy and properly seasoned. The meat wasn't too chewy or too dry. I also don't know whether I prefer rice or potatoes. I was expecting the potatoes to be starchy and flavourless, but got a nice smoky flavour instead. The rice was also very good, though it doesn't really have a distinct flavour to write about (nor should it). The humus (served in extremely generous quantities) was bland. I would not order it on its own. However, it was really tasty when mixed with the shawarma meat. The coleslaw was surprisingly good. It was not overly sour or mushy. The turnips were a little salty for my liking and are the only item I wouldn't ask for again. The portions are generous. However, the proportions between the sides could be a lot better. I felt like there was too much rice and humus and not enough of everything else. My plate had only a bit of the veggies and several slices of potato. By the end of my meal, I was left with a bunch of rice and humus on my plate (which don't really go well on their own). A meal like this is best served with a bottle of Ayran (a yogurt drink) which is pretty common at middle-eastern restraraunts. Perhaps the management team at Shawarma Land should offer it as well. read more

This place is fabulous. We walked in an were hit with the unmistakable aroma of grilled meat which made us super excited. The guys working there are kind and polite, the restaurant is more of a takeout spot, but there's ample seating for a quick sit-down meal. You order and pay at the counter and your food is prepared in front of you. It's kind of like a Subway style assembly line, your rice and meat is prepared and then you go down a line of fresh salads/vegetables and sauces. I ordered the falafel plate and my partner ordered the chicken shawarma. The falafel was surprisingly prepared right on the spot, fresh and piping hot, the way I like it! The shawarma is also cut to order ensuring juicy and fresh meat. When we received our food, we noticed how heavy the containers were. Each meal could easily feed 2 or more people. We had lots of leftovers, even for big eaters like ourselves. The food itself was delicious, everything was fresh, hot and flavourful. The salads and sauces also tasted fresh. I particularly loved their hummus which comes as a huge spoonful on the side of your plate. Overall, can't wait to come back to this place. It's not expensive, but a bit more premium than other fast food restaurants, I think it's about $12-15 for a plate dinner, which comes with the protein, salads, pita and hummus, but wraps and sandwiches are cheaper. Been craving shawarma and decided to finally check this place out after yelping our new neighbourhood. It's a nice, clean space with plenty of seating. We ordered the chicken and beef mixed shawarma plate (though I don't think it was on the menu). I felt the sauces were a bit thinner than my liking and the beef was a bit dry and tougher that I usually have. Yikes. I expected better. I was in Aurora a few nights ago and was looking for a quick fix so naturally, I went on Yelp to find a good recommendation. My all time favourite quick fix meal is shawarma so I found myself here. At the time I arrived, there were a little under 10 people in the shop so it seemed that business was doing well. I ordered a standard chicken shawarma wrap and to my disappointment, it was cold. I'm not sure if it was because it was a busier night and the staff were rushing, but they hadn't warmed the wrap for long enough and the pita was actually cold. Not even room temperature - it was fridge-level cold. The chicken and toppings were also a disappointment. The chicken wasn't seasoned well nor roasted enough so it was bland tasting and the toppings weren't fresh. The turnips were soggy and falling apart. Overall, my order was a sad, cold, soggy, tasteless wrap. I don't see myself back in Aurora anytime soon but I'm sad this meal will be my one impression of it. read more

The place is modern, and the food tastes good. I had the hummus and chicken shawarma. It was a very generous portion of food, and the pricing was fair. I need to be careful and eat gluten free, so they were able to pull out a fresh tub of hummus for me and the shawarma was freshly cut. If you are celiac or have a serious allergy, avoid everything in the fryer and notice that anything server from the service area can be risky. I got mine fresh. I barely made 1/4 of my food...!! Honestly , you need TWO people to finish this. Sharing is caring...sometimes.... :) They should put up as a food challenge. No way...anybody can finish this by himself/herself in one sitting? Don't believe me ? Go try it...and let me know. This place gets busy at lunch so I recommend either going earlier or later hours of lunch (after 1pm). I ordered the Chicken Shawarma Plate ($13.30). It was the biggest portion of chicken, rice, salad and potatoes I've seen, and it also comes with a pita. The portions are super generous and easily I ate the plate for two separate meals (lunch and lunch the next day! Yay!). The chicken was flavourful and not dry at all. The potatoes where nice and crisps on the outside and fluffy on the inside. The salad was fresh and you have the option of having hot peppers on it as well. I recommend asking them for extra tzatziki and hot sauce for extra flavour and kick. The service is quick and there are a few seats to sit at if you decide to sit in. read more

There was a line up during lunch time when I went, but gotta say, their service is excellent compared to other shawarma fast food place. They are quick, precise and still manage to greet every single customer. I ordered the chicken shawarma wrap which I was quite content with its portion. However, I wouldn't say it tastes exceptional, the first bite was all meat and it was a little too savoury for my taste. What I didn't like about the wrap was that even though there were lots of vegetables and condiments in the wrap, the meat and the other ingredients were totally segregated. So I would get one bite of warm meat and the next bite was cold veggies, which I really didn't enjoy. They probably didn't warm my wrap long enough, so mine was quite cold when I ate it. This place is consistent when it comes to the flavor and preparation of its meat. It's tasty, without a doubt. Would be better if you get the meat right off the rotisserie- but you'll get it out of a steel canister instead. It's a busy place so you can be sure it's fresh. Service: Most of these guys are cool, quick and friendly. However, the owner (or maybe his son) has an attitude that screams "I don't need your business". He's usually the shortest one there, wears a baseball cap and sporting some arm tattoos. It's almost like he makes an effort not to make eye contact with you as he's handing you the payment machine. You don't need to be a psychologist to tell when someone wasn't hugged enough as a child. Portions: Generous DEPENDING on who's serving you. Only one guy there will give you a smaller portion... you guessed it - our grumpy short friend. Very often he'll second guess his portion serving and pick some out of your plate - a big restaurant no no. Also, if you're eating there in the winter, keep your coat on. The portion size was very generous, with respect to the sides. I had the rice and potatoes, which were the highlight. The trouble was the meat. The meat was pre sliced off of the spit and was in a warming tray. When I ordered they took a small portion of meat and put it on the flat top and began to re-cook the meat. The result was a dried out salty mess. I assume they expect you to douse the meat is sauce to compensate. But I usually enjoy the meat as cooked, so I did not get the sauce which was a mistake.
