Was a bit nippish and after reading up on this location, took a drive to sample their goods. There is a large parking lot up front and no worries if finding parking. Took the mixed plate combo with a side of wonderful chips and a fizzy drink. The accompanying veg was very fresh and plentiful accompanying the plentiful and flavourful meats (chicken and beef) all wrapped up into a sight of goodness. The garlic spread was amazing and would definitely ask for the spicier version next round. The staff were plenty friendly and made you feel like an old regular. Looking forward to my next visit!

As I continue my quest for best shawarma, I came across Johnny's. I usually check to see if people from the country's cuisine eat there, and there were a few! Service was great, I was immediately greeted and served when it was my turn. Ordering my usual mixed plate to get a taste of the chicken and beef shawarma, I was impressed with the size of the plate. They also put good dollops of hummus and spicy garlic sauce (which was SO GOOD). The best part is that all of their pastes and sauces are VEGAN, which helps me on my new diet. The chicken and beef were well seasoned, though there were a few bites that I found dry. With the tahini and spicy habanero sauce, it made it better. It was laid on a bed of lentil rice, which must have been amazing, though I didn't partake because Paleo. Can't wait to try their pita and naan, since I didn't get a chance this time around due to diet.

Nice spot. Got take out of course under the dine in restrictions. The flavour of the tahini and the other marinades are robust. I got the beef and chicken shawarma plate. It comes on rice, has some fried potatoes, and other pickles sides and hummus. Really flavourful. I would say that the beef and especially the chicken which is white meat was dry. I imagine if the joint during pre Covid would be a lot busier and higher turnover to have juicer meats. $12 plus tax for the plate. I would say not bad considering food inflation.

GOOD FOOD! My husband's really happy. Great customer service as well. As we entered the place, it smelled amazing!!! Will definitely come back!!

Passed by this restaurant and decided to check it out on a whim and glad I did. Tried their chicken shawarma plate, now $15.99, since I saw others post prices from a couple months ago, but it has changed since. I got everything on the plate, and it was delicious. The chicken shawarma is a little dry, but the garlic sauce and hummus fixes that problem. It also comes with rice, potatoes, tabbouleh, pickles, and a pita with more garlic sauce. The server behind the counter was nice, and the restaurant was clean.

If you say Johnny's, the collective voice in Toronto would be Johnny's Hamburgers - rightly so as it's been an icon for half a century. However, I propose to you another place to consider. Johnny's Shawarma! If I was back in my old hood, I would have a seat with my name on it etched in bronze for all ages. This place isn't about just being a quick serve, it's about having a food experience. First time, Johnny's was at the Taste of the Middle East. Second time, I got to experience the whole menu at an event. I made it a note to return and do a write up of this place. It's only fair that another Johnny's in Scarborough gets some attention - as little as I may be able to drum up. Johnny is a charismatic and tireless soul. He is a both a showman and an excellent purveyor of fine mid-east food. His motto is "Addiction Guaranteed" and he does his best to deliver on it. The food quality is very good and for those who look to be comfortably full, you will have no arguments here as the quantity is very generous. Each dish is prepared fresh and amazing. He even carves his shawarma by hand! Not some sheep shear that many are using now. Why is hand carving so important? Have you been to a real deli? They tell you that hand carved meats for sandwiches are better...why? Who cares, it just is! We don't argue...we just enjoy. Well, trust me, hand carved shawarma is the way to go! Thick chunks of meat with just the right sear on one end and juicy through the rest. All the taste and no taste of machine oil and metal - yeah, you didn't think of that did ya!?! My ratings is quite simple (and I do change it up here and there) up to 3 stars for food. 1 extra for ambiance. 1 more for service. It's a quick serve restaurant in Scarborough so ambiance will suffer a bit but let's say Johnny's personality makes up for it! Oh BTW as Johnny says... "Don't ever be sorry, unless you had shawarma somewhere else!" Somehow this rang true as I live in Richmond Hill and rarely make it out to Scarborough and had shawarma elsewhere. I'm still paying for it two days later, and they used the Sheep Shears!!! - UGH! FML! CHEERS!!!

I know I've said this before, but this is still my go-to spot for shawarma when I'm in the area. Johnny always greets me with a smile, and many times, I place my order with him over the phone for a quick pickup. My favourite remains the mixed plate of chicken and beef (I can't bring myself to order anything else - haha)! The price is still $12.99, and there is no additional charge for a mixed plate. The garlic paste is addictive, so warning, no vampires will come near you! I like to add the meats to the included pita with garlic paste and make a pita wrap. Every person I've referred has been a repeat customer!

Johnny's Shawarma should be on Food Network's "You Gotta Eat Here!" WHERE - Seriously, where have you been? I did mention this has become a pattern right? Johnny's has been in a small plaza on the corner of Kennedy/Ellesmere for 24 years, and I have driven by hundreds of times. Why did I not see it before? After I read the reviews on Yelp, we finally had a chance to try it out. JOHNNY - We walked in not knowing what to expect, and were greeted by a really nice guy. I told him it was our first time, we heard about this place and the next thing you know, I'm asking his name. It's Johnny! ORDER - We didn't quite know what to order. When we go somewhere new, I'm overwhelmed with choices. Johnny to the rescue! He suggested a mixed plate for my husband, and chicken/beef shawarma combo for me so we could try different items. SEATING - There are a few tables and counter seating so we grabbed a booth, some drinks and checked into Yelp. The place is very clean and I was surprised the ventilation was working well (no smoky or greasy fumes). FOOD - Johnny was very gracious and offered us complimentary Zaatar (Lebanese Vegetable Pizza) and Cheese Manakish to try. Both were garnished with onions, olives, mint, and tomatoes. I've had Zaatar before, but these mini pizzas tasted so fresh! Thank you so much Johnny! The food was brought to us and WOW, where do I begin. The pita bread on the shawarma was perfectly grilled, with a nice crispy exterior. It was cut in half so my husband could try it. The chicken and beef slices were crusty on the outside and succulent, perfectly seasoned and tender. The hummus was fresh, and I could definitely taste the garlic paste that was brushed on the inside of the pita. It wasn't overpowering though. The pickled vegetables and tabbouleh added a nice crunch and slight bitterness/tang to balance out the flavors. The fries were fresh cut and meaty, no skimpy fries here! The mixed plate also came with a grilled pita bread with garlic paste, rice with lentils, potatoes, tabbouleh, hummus and pickled vegetables. PAYMENT - Before we left, we asked where to put our plates and one of the staff said to leave them on the table. You can pay with cash, debit or credit card; however, the tip function is not on the machine. There is a cup on the counter, so I would highly encourage everyone to tip. This is truly a family run business that shows a lot of pride in their food and customer service. OVERALL - We had a fantastic meal and felt like guests who never leave your home hungry! Johnny thanked us for stopping by and even kindly mentioned that sometimes when we're driving, we're focused on where we're going, so it's easy to miss his restaurant. I thought that was so thoughtful of him to say. This is definitely our favorite shawarma place! PRICES - Shawarma Plate - $11.99 Wrap, fries and pop - $10.49

Tried the mixed shawarma platter with beef and chicken and it came in a generous portion. The service there was also great. When I let them know that I don't eat parsley, they were able to substitute the tabbouleh with salad. Overall, I would come here again to get my shawarma fix.

Dropped by for a weekday lunch pick up as I was in the area picking up THE last christmas present for a niece. Johnny's Shawarma popped up on my Yelp app and debating between going here and Jolibee, I decided that I needed a little more veggie in my lunch so JS won out this time. It was still quiet at 11:30 a.m. and I was lucky to beat the lunch rush that came through the door as I was leaving with my 2 shawarma wraps in hand. A very congenial gentleman who greeted me, took my order and prepared my food was a pleasure through and through. I walked out with a mixed (chicken and beef) shawarma wrap and a falafel wrap for under $20. The wraps were both tasty and I liked that I was able to watch the gent scoop up the freshly made falafel batter into his deep fryer for my order. No pre-made balls here, folks! :) Both wraps were tasty albeit being a little salty (thanks, pickeled veggies!) and the size or the wraps were perfect that I didn't go into a food coma after eating my lunch. I liked Johnny's shawarma enough to drop in for another taste next time I'm in the area. Good work!

We were looking to try something different for dinner and Johnny's Shawarma came up with good reviews on Google, so we decided to give this restaurant a try. Coming in, there are a good amount of seats to dine in, and because we came at night on Family Day, it wasn't as busy. However, I can imagine how busy it can be during regular weekday lunch time. They have wraps, and shawarma bowls to choose from. We ordered the shawarma bowls and initially it comes with Naan and salad. The food is prepped within 5 mins and wow, the portion is very big. The plate was stuffed with meat, plus coming with Naan, salad and hummus, there was a lot of food, and really great for the price you pay. I really loved the garlic sauce and also the naan because it had their garlic sauce all around. It was so flavorful, plus the meat (beef and chicken) were very tasty/tender. Definitely worth checking out

Stopped by Johnny's Shawarma on my way home from the cottage Sunday evening. Johnny's has been in business since 1995, and they specialize in shawarma, including mixed plates, wraps and even poutine. The place was busy, so we had a short wait. We were warmly greeted by Johnny himself. On this visit, we ordered two chicken shawarma plates and small order of baklava. We were served very quickly and efficiently. The portion size was huge, so I recommend you don't order unless you're really hungry. The wraps would be a great alternative. The plate can easily be shared.

Unfortunately I left with a strong sense of disappointment. We ordered beef shawarma that was dry and dull (though I concede that if we had gotten the house made hot sauce it would have likely been fire), and then ordered two skewers of shrimp with some sides. The seafood is served from a secondary restaurant to the beef/ chicken one - and though they didn't seem incredibly busy, we waited 45 minutes for two skewers! The more frustrating aspect was that I definitely saw people order and receive their food before me. When I asked, I was told that people had preordered food before coming, and while that may be the case I refuse to believe that two skewers took 45 minutes. I would have understood if someone told me they forgot about my order or they had a problem with the kitchen, but none such explanation happened. They didn't even apologize and the cashier seemed to actively avoid me, and instead busied herself by chatting with friends or cleaning up the odd table. In the end we only received the food after we actively started to leave without it. If there was a friendlier service experience I would go back and give them a second chance, but the cashier's attitude really put me in a bad place. I hope that this was a one off especially since they seem to have such a loyal clientele.

It came with a lamb/beef kebab, some beef tenderloin, and some chicken. I think there were roast potatoes too, but my memory is a bit fuzzy on that part. The veggie stew was poured onto a plate of bulgur and was really really good. Lots of flavour, all the veggies (carrots, cauliflower, onions, etc.) were tender. the juices ran through the bulgur which made for a great side dish to go with the meat. The kebbeh was tasty but still a bit disappointing -- there were only three, and didn't feel like quite enough to make a meal. Luckily the fattoush salad was huge otherwise my son would have left the restaurant hungry. Compared to some of the dishes we saw on other tables, this dish seems to be an outlier in terms of quantity of food, and it's certainly not worth the $28 price; I wouldn't recommend it. We opted for the vegetarian mix-and-match plates, which came with either rice or salad, 5 small sides, and 3 falafels. Most of the items were pretty good, my favourites being the arnabeet (cauliflower), eggplant with chickpeas and tomato-based sauce, bamya (okra), and white cannellini beans salad. The warak enab (also called dolma or stuffed grape vine leaves) was flavourless and had too much ratio-to-grape vine leaves ratio (more rice inside that I'd like). The tabbouleh was way too salty. There created Shawarma Pockets and Cones, while maintaining thei traditional Wraps and Bowls. They soft-opened on 2025-06-30. The Pockets and Cones are more affordable and can allow for a quick meal. In this instance, Yalla means "let's go". I ordered the following: 1. Beef Shawarma Pocket ($7.99). 2. Shrimp Rice Bowl ($11.99). 3. Mushroom Bowl ($11.99). 4. Canned Pop ($2.50). 5. Rice Pudding ($5.99). 6. Mouhalabieh ($5.99). 7. Meghli ($5.99). Obviously I didn't eat it all; I was bringing most of it home. The Beef Shawarma Pocket is ingenious since that alone was good for lunch. The Beef Shawarma was delicious! The ingredients for the Shawarma has changed to now use Top Sirloin and Lamb Fat. Lamb fat is tastier and more moist than Beef fat. The shrimps were perfectly grilled with accompanying sauces. The turmeric rice was fragrant and moist. The rice has 7 spices and cilantro in it. The Meghli dessert was an amazing dessert. It is tasty and refreshing. It is said to have very healthy and energetic properties; women who recently gave birth would eat it to revive their energy. It has aromatic rice pudding, cinnamon, caraway, and anise, topped with crunchy nuts. I will report about the other dishes when I try them at another time. There is adequate indoor seating (tables and counters) and outdoor seating (two small tables). The vibe is green and red, their restaurant colours. Paramount features Lebanese and Syrian cuisine. There is free WiFi. The restaurant is wheelchair accessible, but there is no door-open button. There are separate male/female washrooms downstairs, so they are not wheelchair accessible. There is paid neighbourhood street parking. Review 2025-125

The menu offers great variety of salads, bowls, pockets and sweets. Each menu item is fresh and full of flavours. The space is cozy yet feels lively and the colourful decor makes it welcoming. There are a couple of tables available for dine in; it's also great for takeout. We ordered "Beet Tabbouleh Salad", "Freekeh Salad", "Veggie Cone", "Falafel Cone", "Hummus", "Shrimp Rice Bowl", Chicken Shawarma Pocket" and "Beef Shawarma Pockets". Pockets are creative and one of their kind; definitely a must-try. Every dish was fresh and delicious and presented beautifully. In-house hummus, tahini sauce and tzatziki add extra flavour to every meal. The chef and manager are very friendly and make sure everyone has a great experience.
