    Chicken Shawarama sandwich
    Maryanne G.

Did delivery last night. Prompt delivery. VERY Generous portions. Very nicely marinated and properly cooked chicken. Shredded lettuce under the Falafel patties was pretty gross (brown and slimy) - threw out the lettuce immediately. Falafel was suppose to come with tahini, but came with nothing. Shishtawook platter was supposed to come with hummus, but came with tahini instead - so we used that tahini for the falafel. Chicken cabana sandwich was supposed to have French fries inside, but did not. Overall the food (except the lettuce) was very good. Just a bit of a jumbled order.

Grease in their drain lines after Roto Rooter had cleared the stoppage two days before

Don't do any work for them, they don't like to pay their bills. They stuck me for over $500 when they were on College Ave. and now another $478. It won't happen again.

I love it here! The food was so good. They had a vertical broiler and it made the chicken amazing. There were so many food options, the food was done quick, and the staff was very nice. It was also a cool environment to eat in because the murals inside are very interesting

I actually didn't hate the food. My husband came for lunch a few days ago and was appreciating the hummus so much that I wanted to try this place before I leave state college. We went their for dinner and there was one other couple eating apart from us. My husband was disappointed from the hummus as he felt it didn't have the same flavors. Probably, it was fresh that day or somebody else made it. Anyways, I would have liked the place if the person making my falafel sandwich wasn't angry and throwing my food every time on the table. Every time she did that I looked my husband and he exactly knew What's wrong. I don't like to eat at a restaurant when they treat food like a piece of crap while they are preparing or serving a meal. Even the person standing behind me said what's wrong with her. I don't know if you want to try them, but I might not.

    Huge pita

Its like a chipotle but middle eastern/Mediterranean. Instead of a tortilla wrap you can use a pita wrap. The meats and the veggies are all marinated differently but the concept is the same. You can get a pita for 8 bux and it comes out pretty huge enough for a meal and a half for sure. I didnt like the lamb so much but the sojuk was bomb. Overall this is one of the better staples of state college.

    Dead bug in food

The food here is ok. Rice was good but the lamb leg was dry and the salad was bland. I unfortunately found a bug in my food, it was in the speckled seasoning they put on the onions. Won't be ordering again, that's revolting. I was really hoping it was cumin until I saw the legs and

    Lamb Sandwhich

Ordered a lamb sandwhich that was supposed to be on pita bread, but instead came in wrap. The lamb was ground and had barely any sauce (was very watery). Ordered guava juice and they gave me peach snapple. (Ordered via uber eats). Lentil soup was good and the Fattoush salad was also good, however, was very small portioned considering the price.

The WORST customer service I have ever received. The person upfront was rude, unhelpful, and argumentative to us from the second we walked in. Argued about what came with our meal (claimed that pita didn't come with the platter when it says so on online). We ordered two platters (chicken satay and shishook) and falafel. The falafel was BURNT and the satay platter was drenched in hummus and tahini sauce. The satay platter's chicken was bland/dry and had no satay whatsoever on it. I called the store after we left to see if I could get my order fixed and spoke with the same person as we did in store. They were extremely rude and argued about my order and told me that they did it right and was extremely argumentative and dismissive. I used to order from here a lot but I will never go back because I have never received such terrible treatment while ordering food/ trying to fix an order. For the price of the meal, you'd think more care would be put into it.

    Tortillas instead of pita bread.

I ordered a lamb gyro and hummus, the gyro was good but I was disappointed that because they gyro was rapped in a tortilla instead of pita bread and also in the description it said hummus came with pita bread but instead it came with 3 tortillas instead of pita bread which was a disappointment considering its a Mediterranean style place and the description said pita bread.

Let me just say this: California has infinite amounts of mediterranean/lebanese food, and this seems like the only one I can find in State College. With that being said, this place could totally be shitty and still make good money. But... this place is actually pretty decent. I got a rice bowl, and it was huge! Portions are bigger than Chipotle, and I compare this place to Chipotle because it's a build-your-own styled restaurant. The rice is sooooo beyond flavorful. And the cucumber yogurt sauce (what is it called?!?! I forget lol). Anything with cucumbers is yummy. The chicken was great too. The hummus was more on the plain side, but still decent. Will be coming back!!

    Gyro

Stopped in for a quick lunch. The staff was really helpful and friendly. Decided to have a gyro but since it is build your own style I could add a few other items that were recommended by the staff. It was very good and very easy. A good place for some mediterranean food and a quick bite to eat.

I'm pretty sure grape leaves and tabbouleh are not supposed to shit brown water and float in it. This was awful. Went in the trash.
    Jonas M.

We eat a lot of mediterranean food. Most of it's good. Sometimes it's very good and sometimes mediocre. But this place... this place is THE WORST. Wow. Where to begin? We stayed the night in State College on our way back to Connecticut and ordered some take out to the hotel. Just from looking at it, I knew it wasn't going to be very good. Both the tahini and the hummus had been thinned out and were quite watery (ostensibly to make them go further?). The fattoush was just chopped romaine, tomato and cucumber topped with *soggy* pita and some mystery-mayo dressing. The falafel was so-so. Not warmed all the way through. These things are minuses in my book, but not the worst. The ATROCITIES of the meal were the baba, the grape leaves and the tabbouleh. I'm not being facetious when I say the baba tasted like a cow patty smells. It was horrible. Like a dirty barnyard in your mouth. The worst. And gobs of liquid smoke, which still didn't cover the cow patty flavor. I'm not exaggerating. The grape leaves tasted like whatever can they came out of. Old, falling apart, with a bland flavor and metallic aftertaste. They even retained the crammed-in shape of canned grape leaves. Not good. The tabbouleh was a wreck. Parsley was barely chopped and some pieces were mushy. Clearly not fresh. Dressed in some cheap salad oil, not olive oil, and canned lemon juice, not fresh lemon juice. And the container that held the grape leaves and tabbouleh was filled with some brown liquid that smelled bad. Just awful! It's a real disservice for people trying middle eastern food for the first time, because this is shit is inedible. Even drunk college kids deserve better than this. We choked down the falafel, hummus and the green salad (because that is NOT fattoush). The rest went in the trash. Where it belongs.

Menu board with the crispy deep fried half and whole chicken!

The spicy foods were actually spicy, and the falafel was fresh and not dry. Definitely my quick go-to salad/ fresh bowl place for now. It is cold and cafeteria-style. Great option for state college. 4/5 Ambiance: modern/ industrial fast casual looking interior- tile-like wall is pretty, as are the jars of pickled vegetables and the cage lattices separating the dining high tables. Overall a clean feel and not too sterile feeling, though it may be on the border of being a bit too-bare-bones. This is the kind of place I could see bringing someone from out of town to. Music was really loud, as seems to be the style at these kinds of places, which could make quality conversations hard to do. 4/5 Service: Service was good. I ordered three bowls and they were served promptly. It didn't seem like anything special to make the dish, the server was literally looking at the recipe on the receipt and putting scoops of each into the bowl, which makes sense, especially for custom made bowls. This destroyed all imaginations of a chef custom making a dish to be tailored to the seasons, etc but the food was still tasty. It does exist and it's even better than how one might imagine based on the menu. We were warmly welcomed and sat right away despite being a little early. We were at a table that was kind of awkwardly blocking a doorway and my friend had to keep moving when people went through. No big deal. Maybe just not the best spot for a table (maybe turn it sideways). Our server was amazing. So friendly and knowledgeable. Drinks - I had a grapefruit spritz mocktail and my friend had a red that he really liked. To start, we had the charcuterie and the tartare. Both excellent. The tartare was so fresh and light with a little pop of spice. I had the trout and my friend had the short rib gnocchi. I was so jealous of his glutinous gnocchi but the trout was excellent. I'm not a bean person but the beans were so flavorful I could not help but to eat them. And then there was dessert. The affogato was perfect. There were a few ice cream flavors to choose from and we selected butterscotch. Highly recommend. The semifreddo. Don't let the garlic scare you. It blends well with the rich chocolate and the bright, juicy pomegranate. Try it! It's like nothing I've ever tasted before. Our server let us know they have brunch which will definitely be happening in the near future. Overall, the most perfect dinner from start to finish.

I ordered online for pickup (Arayes and Falafel) and the problems started. I received both a web notice and an email that my food would be immediately ready for pickup. Seemed weird, but I figured perhaps they have a good amount staged and could just bag it. Once I arrived at the store I was greeted by an empty host counter, and when someone finally showed up he looked annoyed and bored to be there. I told him about the order and he went to check. I saw him in the dining area a few times afterwards, but no stop up front to say "just a few minutes" or such. Eventually (truthfully, not long after - perhaps 7 minutes) he came out with a bag and said, "Here you go sir. Jonathan, right?" -- "Josh", I replied --- "Something like that." he said, maintaining bored eye contact with anywhere but my face. Despite the hiccups, I arrived home excited to try the food. I was immediately disappointed. Both dishes were supposed to come with sauce - Tahini with the falafel and Tzatziki with the Arayes. There was no sauce. I call the restaurant - it went to voicemail. I drove back - waited again at the empty host counter, and was eventually greeted by a young woman. She was much more welcoming and engaged than the prior person. I explained what happened and she said she would be right back. A few minutes later the original guy came back with a bag with "Sorry about that". I got home and immediately regretted not looking in the bag while still at the restaurant. I received two containers of Tahini and one of some mystery green sauce. Google tells me that Tzatziki can be green, but this neither tastes nor looks like any tzatziki I've ever had. (Not being a culinary expert I don't mind being corrected if I am wrong here) All sauces refrigerator cold. Maybe they are supposed to be? Checking the menu to see if I misremembered, I saw that they were also supposed to come with some sort of "arabic bread" which was missing. I did not call again and resigned myself to eating the already lukewarm food. The falafel was overcooked and very dry. Reminded me of hockey pucks. One bite was enough. Now we get to the redeeming part of the story... the Arayes are phenomenal. They need no sauce. 10/10. I am all for paying well for high-quality food and service, but I won't be giving any more money to this establishment until/unless they iron out their hospitality and quality processes. Truly a shame, because the interior looks nice and someone there really knows how to cook.
