If I could subtract stars from this place I would definitely take all the stars from this business! My son's decided to visit this establishment on the 29th of March to try out a local black owned restaurant they never had before because they try to support local black owned an operated business in there community, which we always encourage. It's a very short distance from our home so it seemed appropriate. It didn't start bad but turned into an experience that no young black man should experience ever from a older man especially a black owned business he's trying to support or any other person that decided to spend their hard earned money at this establishment. There was a ping pong table there an they asked could they play a round, the hostess said yes and gave them the ball and paddles, as they begin play the owner came out and shouted across the the store y'all better know what y'all doing or get off my table, who plays ping pong on a regular? So they proceeded to give back the ball an paddle while the owner proceeded to verbally attack them accusing them of carrying drugs an saying he only serves BRPD and Narcotics, an I don't doubt that because my sons said he walked by an acknowledged a BRPD officer as he entered an he didn't have a problem or anything to say to my sons! ‍ They had already ordered the all you and eat whatever it was, but he basically made them feel so disrespected and uncomfortable and unwelcome that they wanted to leave anyway as proceeded to escort them to the door while telling them Basically telling they can't eat here, your not welcomed! I guess you can't be young and black to enter this establishment! This place is a disgrace to all the local businesses in our beautiful city that we support an love so much an Mid City should not be subject to to this poor hospitality an discrimination or any part of Baton Rouge. Customer service is always a major part of any business an the owner seems to totally over look that part of business! Some one should definitely look into this! It's definitely his business an he can run it how he pleases but If your open to the public you should definitely focus on your customer service! If you care about the way you are treated when your out an about in our beautiful city don't visit Pit&Peel. It makes you overthink the local experience which we should never do! Best BBQ in Baton Rouge, hands-down. The owner is super-kind, friendly, and funny--and boy can he cook. I had excellent ribs, and the dirty rice I got as a side could have been a meal by itself. It was the best dirty rice I've ever had. For a great price I got an enormous helping, but it was so good that I just kept eating and eating...and never felt full. He clearly put a lot of effort into making it a really nice space. It is homey and sweet inside. Good for solo diners, couples, groups, or families. The owner/ cook is an incredibly nice guy who started the business from the ground up and gave us THE BEST FOOD EXPERIENCE we had during our Louisiana vacation. GREAT experience with the best customer service and biggest smile ever. Best price in town and worked with us to boil a batch after closing to accommodate out of town guests! Bugs were a touch small, but it's not even the beginning of the season y'all...keep the time of year in consideration for your expectations. They were perfectly seasoned and cooked along with the corn and potatoes (which will make my batch of corn and shrimp soup today!). The place was clean, cozy and inviting with an outdoor patio available in good weather. He even threw in a little Mardi Gras lagniappe for my step-mom, she was admiring a book and he gave it to her...made her entire vacation to see such Southern generosity. I visited Pit-N-Peel after seeing an article on boiled crawfish prices on WBRZ's mobile app. The crawfish was pretty delicious and well seasoned for the most part. The potatoes and corn that come with it seemed to have been cooked separately because it did not have a spicy flavor like the crawfish. (A pet peeve of mine) Atmosphere it pretty decent! I would have loved to here music throughout the entirety of my almost 2 hour visit. The owner is very friendly and informative on the best items on the menu. Love the humble story of how it all began! I recommend visiting on Tuesday for all you can eat crawfish if that's what you're going for. read more

Love this place! I have dined in with my husband a few times in the past and the owner is so hospitable! He always spends a little extra time chatting at the table and one night we came in for crawfish a little early so were hanging out waiting on them and he brought us some of his amazing fried honey shrimp! We add it to our orders now:) We got it delivered recently with covid and I switched up my order to the catfish and Mac n cheese and think it is my new favorite! There is not a lot of parking but it is off a residential street you can park on and takeout holds up from here so getting it to go is still great!! This place had a lot of potential until we saw the staff act incredibly unprofessional. We originally came in to get crawfish by the pound but were rudely told that you could only buy crawfish by the pound if it was for takeout or if you ordered it to go... Which makes absolutely no sense... So if you choose to stay at the restaurant you have to buy a $21 crawfish platter. This isn't stated on the menu however. So we went inside to ask for more information and a woman comes outside to where we were sitting barking at us about the crawfish. She then went into a full rant about how "nobody in there knows what they're talking about! they don't do nothing but clean and answer phones for me! I'm the cook! I clean! I run the register! I'm this whole business." It rubbed us the wrong way completely and we cancelled our order. Very unprofessional and completely unnecessary. We got 3 lbs of boiled crawfish with 1 potato and 1 corn each and a pound of boiled shrimp to split. So. Freaking. Good. Perfectly salty. Perfectly spicy. Perfectly boiled. Easy to peel. Even the claws. Our friend had the brisket, Mac n cheese, snd green beans. The brisket was so juicy and tender. Mac n cheese was one of the best we had ever tasted. We started with fried pickles (yum!) these might be the best ones I've had in a while! Lightly breaded and not dripping in grease or juice. I ordered a catfish and shrimp plate for dinner (it was on special for $9.99 and totally worth it) We didn't wait very long for our food and it was nice and hot when it was served! The catfish was in strips and not in a filet. I actually prefer it this way seems to always fall apart otherwise. It was served with French fries and garlic toast. I wasn't a fan of the toast it was a bit to much for me with the other fried items but that's just me. I decided to do a little taste test today on whom offered the best crawfish for the best price. I matched up pit-n-peel @$2:99lbs, country corner $4:19lbs, and crawfish-to-go 4:29lbs. I have to say I did not expect the outcome of the taste test. Three eaters and three votes pit-n-peel. They are spicy, nice size and priced right. I have always been a crawfish to go girl, but actually side by side pit-n-peel, they taste bland, small and over priced. Country corner ran a tight 2nd, well if you can get over paying $1.20 more per pound. Pit-n-Peel you are my new go to! Louisiana has a whole lot better places then here. My advise is to go to those other places. Came in from Texas with a big party, this place said they could accommodate us so we went. When we arrived yes they had tables set up for us and apparently shut the place down for us but yet other customers were still eating in there. As we sat down employees were running in and out of kitchen as of not knowing what to do. We had one waitress to our party of about 20 in which the waitress says she does not even work there anymore and was called in to help so was unsure of what they had available on the menu. At this point I knew this was going to be a disaster and it sure was. Our order was taken and food came out but I had to get up and get our own utensils and condiments. Food was not good had the brisket and rib plate and everything did not taste fresh. Most of the food seemed reheated. The owner shows up and makes a scene about having been missed informed about people ordering crawfish and that he went out of his way to get all these pounds of crawfish and spent all this money and only a few people ordered it. He put all that on us a charged all our tickets a additional $5 fee for his inconvenience and said that was fair because we didn't all order crawfish like apparently he was told was going to happen, which wasn't the case. Said it was fair because he normally charges some ridiculous price like $800 to rent out the area we were sitting in which wasn't even a party room. The owner argued with all of us and did not handle the situation professional. I want this to be a joke. But it isn't. Came here with a big group, which is essentially something that they can't handle. Without going into the nitty gritty, the service was absolutely terrible. Highlights: each plate coming out at 10 to 15 minute intervals, not given silverware until the third plate came out, two people being completely skipped over for ordering. My son found this place on his phone while we were in BR so we decided to try it. Well good thing we did it was great. I got the corn crab chowder (excellent) and the baby back ribs best I have eaten to date. Cheesy mashed potatoes were awesome as well as the Mac and cheese. Crawfish season is here and husband was on the hunt for a quality place on our trip from DFW to NOLA. We saw lots of places with "to go" options but being on a road trip and refusing to let him eat them in the car, we needed to dine in. I, not being a fan of crawfish at all, was along for the ride. As I usually do in joints such as these, I ordered blackened chicken. I waited forever. My husband was 2/3 through his pile of crawdads when I got my chicken po boy. What I got friends, was the farthest thing from blacked chicken. It wasn't recognizable as chicken. Perplexed, I tried to send it back for my correct order when they told me it was how they do blacked chicken. We asked for our check and the (manager? Owner?) said that our lunch was on the house and he apologized for the experience. Super nice.
