We sat outside because it was a nice summer night and they have expanded outdoor seating during the summer on the side of the restaurant. My friend had a sandwich off the specials menu and I had the classic meatballs appetizer as a meal. They're both delicious with good flavor. I stopped by during my first visit to Frederick with a friend who used to live in the area. The menu impressed me with how expansive it was, and we decided to get a pizza, salad, and calamari to share. The calamari came with a delicious pesto aioli which I kept tasting because it was so fresh and tasty. The Gorgonzola salad was simple but effective - a great balance of dried figs, dressing, and cheese. The Donatella pizza was good - I loved the crust! Great amount of chew but very thin and sturdy - however it felt like it was missing something to tie the flavors together, it could have used another drizzle of oil on top. We also got the cannoli dessert, and it was okay. They were really small and proportionally I don't think the oily thick shell was well-balanced against the filling which didn't have a rich enough ricotta flavor in my opinion. Also didn't like the drizzle of chocolate syrup added to it. Next time I'd skip dessert and maybe get another entree, because I would love another pizza or to try a pasta. I didn't mind the wait personally but it did catch me off guard, because the space is huge, and lots of tables were open. It felt understaffed and we didn't get a lot of attention from our waiter (which we didn't take personally at all!). Hopefully more staff can be hired so people can really enjoy the food! read more

I went today and wondered why i hadn't been there earlier, as i know a lot of Frederick restaurants. Much larger inside than i imagined with a terrace outside overlooking a park! I was going to have a salad and eggplant parmesan, but when i saw the pizzas being delivered, i changed my mind and ordered the white pizza, which was delicious. We decided to get pizza, but once we arrived, we were pleasantly surprised that they were offering a Sunday brunch. the selection of food was amazing from salads, heirloom tomatoes, shrimp cocktail, tortellini, salmon to French toast, omelettes, bacon, fruit, and more all for $25. it is the best deal I've ever experienced. The hostess was amazing, the general manager overseeing the brunch was smiling and asked how things were, and our waiter was very kind to share that we could order omelettes or eggs Benedict. Pistarro's resides on a street located in one of the most copacetic parts of the Frederick, MD area. A certain vibe surrounds where this spot is located and those of you who know, know. For those who don't already know, be in the know. If dining inside, Pistarro's offers seating at the bar or at communal tables (not fond of this). Outdoor seating is also available, whenever the seasons permit! NAPOLETANA BREAD- This is not just an appetizer; it is a given, a must! This bread is brushed with olive oil, sprinkled with herbs, parmesan & pecorino cheeses, then baked in a wood-fire oven. It arrives steaming, bubbly, crispy on the outside with a soft inside and balsamic vinegar/oil for dipping (but be sure to finish it off, as this does reheat well after it cools down). An excellent precursor for your meal would be the (beef & pork) PISTARROS MEATBALLS with basil ricotta, parmesan and marinara sauce. These meatballs are super flavorful, juicy and melt in your mouth. The ARUGULA SALAD (I add salmon) is an equally great starter- with crunchy red onion, earthy cremini mushrooms, shaved parmesan and a deliciously refreshing limoncello vinaigrette that brings together all components, making them pop, (plus, accents the salmon wonderfully, if you choose this add-on!). What a great stop. We were driving through MD and looking for a dog friendly stop. Found Pistarro's on Bring Fido and made the detour. Upon arriving we learned that they had just closed the outdoor seating because of the passing storms. The manager was agreeable to seat us with the knowledge the outdoor servers had already been sent home and service may be a bit slow. We were ok so grabbed a seat and ordered some tasty calamari, fried cheese and pasta dishes. Everything was delicious and the service was wonderful. We went there on a Thursday night and decided to sit outside. Walking through the restaurant gave me very classic vibes but the outside area was a little lacking in my opinion. It was on asphalt parking lot and quite uncomfortable/dusty chairs. We ordered the spaghetti and meatballs and donatella pizza and they were both delicious although it took a while to have our orders taken and for the food to come out. Our server was friendly but seemed a bit frantic handling all the tables and he forgot about us at the end and even lost our card for a little bit. Food: We ordered the garlic bread, calamari, pizza, eggplant fries, and lasagna. Unfortunately, it was just okay for me. Best thing was the eggplant fries and the aioli that it came with. The calamari tasted old and not fresh. Garlic bread was extremely dry. Pizza was underwhelming and the lasagna needed more sauce. I think the base (their marinara) needs some work and more seasoning. Service: The staff was friendly. Our waiter was attentive and made sure our drinks were always filled. Ambiance: cute place inside. Nice place for a drink. Other: On their website they have a $65 Family Meal Special on Wednesday's. When we asked about it, management told our waiter to tell us (he was very loud) that it was a mistake on the website and they don't honor that special anymore. Then corrected himself and said it's only for takeout (that is not what the website says). Either way, I think restaurants that advertise a deal and don't update it, should honor that for customers. We celebrated at Girl's Day Out on a Saturday recently. Our party of 4 all raved about our various selections. We enjoyed the appetizer of fried green tomatoes. They were perfect! Crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. They were not at all greasy, which was a good thing. I ordered the Blaco pizza. It was large and the ingredients were perfectly seasoned and paired well together. I would order it again and again. Two shared a Marg pizza and they too raved about the taste. Another ordered a gyro and side salad. She loved both and had enough to bring 1/2 of her sandwich home. We all had to go boxes to enjoy our leftovers. Our server, Mason was attentive and our food arrived very quickly after ordering. We will visit again. read more

i'm usually not in the Frederick area but was driving through from Emmitsburg. Pizza was good. Gyro had more toppings and bread than actual meat. Maybe 1 pita with the appropriate amount of meat would have been better. Now I owe my mom a proper gyro. Seasonal special was not special, green tomatoes . . . . I was excited and what a let down. Paper thin, super greasy and fried to almost bitter. All we could taste was the corn topping. Beet salad under seasoned and grilled shrimp too salty. I asked for balsamic vinegar and was good but not worth the price. Almost forgot the 2 drops of burrata in the salad was nice. The restaurant is in a good location and there is parking outback. The servers are all very pleasant. I enjoyed the Gorgonzola Salad and the Pizza Style of Parmesan Bread. Their Lemon Gelato was also very tasty. What I didn't care for was their Fetuccini Alfredo and the Italian Pepper Sausage Pasta dishes. Both were on their specials. First time here and I am pleasantly surprised and impressed. Service is top tier, ambiance is inviting / calm / welcoming. Drinks are GAS and food is MAJOR FLAMES Austin (the GOAT) bartender took care of my guest and I. Walked us through the menu and guided us to exactly what we didn't even know we wanted. Amazing recommendations and suggestions. The food is perfectly seasoned, perfect temperature and portions. Drinks are absolutely amazing. Great job team! I've been here a few times. The customer service is always great. I had a drink that I really didn't like and the bartender was super nice about it. The gluten free pizza crust is amazing! I had to ask to make sure it was gluten free. I got the fumo verde and enjoyed it. I'd come here a couple times a month if I lived close by. read more

It's unfortunate but the food was really disappointing. The gluten-free crust was very bad and should not be offered at all, let alone have a$8 upcharge. The vegan sausage they use is overly salty (they should switch to Beyond or Impossible brands like other restaurants). The fries were soggy, and the shellfish was not fresh. A meal for 2 adults was a surprising $100, and they kept trying to take our dishes while we were still eating. read more

I'll start by saying I love Pistarro's, the food is amazing every time and the staff is incredibly friendly, but today's experience will probably be the last. My partner and I were excited to go today to celebrate a move, their pasta is my favorite! (as someone who has worked in the restaurant industry for several years I have a lot of understanding for the people that do these jobs, it is not easy) All of this is to say I'm not a difficult customer, and I should have expressed my disappointment at the time, but I'm not much for confrontation or complaining when I can just pay and leave, but honestly so many things went wrong that I felt I should leave a review. My partner and I went to eat at about 6:15 on saturday, expecting it to be busy, and the inside was mostly full so we decided to eat outside. There were maybe two other tables (closest to the road) outside when we were sat (closest to side door)No problem there, but the problems did start with the bin directly next to us. I don't think it was a trash bin but whatever they keep in there attracts a lot of bugs. For our entire meal there were flies and gnats right next to us and landing on the table/our food when it came, we were going to ask if we could move tables but within the next 20ish minutes the patio was full. So we decided okay, whatever, the bugs suck but we'll make the most of it. (side note I understand why they sat us at one of the only 2 tops, we were 2 people and they are preparing for a rush, but to sit 1 man with a dog directly next to us at a 4 top was a bit annoying.) Anyway I get a drink and appetizer, which neither took too long to come out, and after we got our appetizer our server checked on us again and we put our entrees in. During that time several more tables were sat, including three tops and four tops that showed up at least 15-20 minutes after us, cool no problem until we've been waiting 35 minutes for our entrees that finally came after 40ish minutes, meanwhile most of the tables that sat after us had received their entrees. I absolutely understand being overwhelmed or forgetting things, but the stuff that happened on top of this is why I'm writing. I also want to add no blame to the food runners believe me I have dropped stuff before too, but several of the sides for the salmon were dropped on the ground when placing the dish on the table (which really doesn't matter, they offered to replace it but we didn't want to stay and wait, so much else went wrong it was just one more thing on top of it). Again all of this in itself is whatever, although I do think you should notice when your guests are sitting in a swarm of bugs, but the next bit is why I am writing this. All of this is incredibly infuriating for anybody paying to eat here, but the absolute worst part was when two (I assume) managers came out. We had already been sitting for about 15-20 minutes with an empty drink and two empty waters (nothing else on the table still waiting for our food) and the female manager says something along the lines of "oh do we need more water" sort of in a baby voice..................... she was talking to THE DOG next to us!!! Not one of the two managers that came out to say hi to the dog bothered to look over or check on us. After our entrees finally came out I asked for boxes because the bugs were getting unbearable. Somebody who I assume is the other manager, another man, came out at the end to pick up our check and make sure everything was good. Yes this would have been the point to air out all of our complaints, but we just wanted to get out of there. Managers of Pistarro's if you are reading this please do better. It is understandable if some staff are overwhelmed and falling behind, ( I get it, that happens, but for your managers (or at least higher ups)) to be completely oblivious to the fact that they are ignoring paying customers' needs because they want to pet someone's dog??? Are you kidding??? Potential future customers, the food is great, but I would suggest carry out or BRINGING YOUR DOG, you'll probably get better service that way. $100 experience, good luck. read more

Pistarros is definitely a must try and another local Frederick favorite. I always order the Donatello which is a pizza with prosciutto and arugula! It's so yummy and fresh and the crust is perfect. We also ordered the kids smiley pepperoni pizza for my son. Such a fun idea for the kiddos. My mom ordered the Nezih which has sausage and jalepenos. Then my hubby ordered the Mailie which has the classic pepperoni, sausage and sopressata. Everyone loved their pizzas and we all left with happy bellies! The pizzas are individual sizes but we usually have a couple of boxes of leftovers for more yumminess at home. We love this restaurant and the very casual but welcoming vibe! And our server was super friendly and efficient. She filled our drink glasses with refills and was on top of it with the food, service and friendly customer service. If you're ever in the downtown Frederick area this is definitely a must try. During COVID, the servers are wearing masks and outdoor dining is available. Their pizza is off the chain. If you order anything on the menu please get what they are known for which is pizza. Their crust is immaculate. The food took awhile to get to us and if you sit inside on some days you might have to listen to music (personally I'm not a fan of live music while I'm eating). I am incredibly delinquent in submitting this review, but better late than never! Many family members and I were in Frederick last month for, unfortunately, a funeral service at All Saints' church. A group of about 20 of us agreed to meet for lunch before the service and a couple of my nieces and nephews who live in the area recommended Pistarro's. I called and asked if it would be possible for them to accommodate us and they agreed without hesitation. I was a bit late in arriving, but was pleasantly surprised to find that the manager had given us a private room, apart from the main dining room. It was the perfect spot for my family; we're not known for being quiet, *and* the significant other of my niece who was in from Colorado was hap-hap-happy to see that there were a couple of TVs on the wall, so he could watch his favorite college football team play. The restaurant set us up at two long tables. In addition to a relatively raucous group of adults, we had a number of younger children in attendance. Our server (Katie??) was immediately on top of everything. Kids' food right off the bat - check! Drinks for the grownups - check! And then she collected all of the adult orders. She thankfully had someone helping her, so everything moved forward efficiently. Our food and drinks were delivered promptly and everything was *fabulous*. (I wish I'd taken pictures but didn't think to at the time.) A couple of my tablemates ordered pizzas and raved about them. I ordered a few sides of fried calamari for both table just to start with. I have *never* had such good calamari. We all agreed that in other venues, eating their calamari is akin to chewing on rubber bands. Pisarro's calamari was incredibly tender and *perfectly* seasoned. My brother-in-law had a fresh fish (like taking pictures, I also neglected to make a note of what type of fish he got); I thought he was going to lick the plate, he liked it so much. One of my nieces ordered the butternut (I think) ravioli. I stole some of it and it was fantastic - another bare dish was left behind. I stopped at the front desk on the way out and told the person there that I would have liked to thank the manager for our perfect lunch experience, but I had to get to the church. They said something like, "Oh, she's right there," and motioned her over. It turned out that our server's "helper" was, in fact, the manager. I thanked her and singled out (1) Katie (I hope) and (2) that amazing calamari. With respect to the latter, she told me they had it delivered fresh every day. We are new-ish to the frederick area and since we moved to the area around covid, we are still exploring the eats. We have found a pizza place near by and wanted to see if this pizza joint could also join the rotation. We did like the burrata app that we got but only liked the pizza. We did like the ability to split the pizza and get 2 different pizzas on the 1 pie but we were happier with the crust at the other place. It was under a "sharing" appetizer, but was such a small serving. Taste wise it was not worth it at all. Then for entrees we got 2 pizzas, a pasta and caesar salad. Initially when the pizza's came out, they looked underdone, so we had it sent back to be cooked longer. For a pizza place, that was very surprising. The salad dressing was plain and watery. The fettuccine alfredo was honestly the most dissapointing. Sauce out of a jar would've been better. It was so bland and watery, it genuinely was a waste of 20$, a 1/10. The margarita pizza was decent but definitely have had better. The nizeh pizza was okay, but again not very flavorful. This place was recommended by an Italian friend so my expectations were high and I wasn't disappointed. This gem is located off the Main Street in quaint downtown Frederick. Parking: Located on the side and back of the restaurant. Space is limited, however there is parking within walking distance off the road. Either way; parking is free and you can't beat that. Order: Salumi - Appetizer board full of delicious meat and cheese. I could order this board with wine and I'd be a happy yelper. Eating each item alone or stacked on the bread that came with the board with a dash of jelly was absolutely satisfying. The board came with prosciutto, soppessata (that has a little kick of spice to it), pastirma, mozzarella, jelly and tiny bread. Olive Tostate - Toasted olives on a hot pan. This was my first time having cooked (let alone, roasted) olives. It was yummy. It had a nice crisp to it with the regular olive flavor. Pomodori and Verdure Soup - This was on the daily specials menu. This yummy tomato and veggie soup complimented with mozzarella cheese was filling even for a cup of serving. It was a perfect pair with the appetizer board we got. The texture wasn't too thick or thin. The cheese on top was a plus. Penne Alla Vodka - This is by far my perfect pasta. I'm a half red, half white sauce and this hit the spot. This tomato, cream and vodka sauce pasta was everything and some. The penne noodles was cooked perfect; topped with basil and parmesan was mouthwatering. Donatella Pizza - This was my kind of pie. It was a simple yet delicious cheese, prosciutto pizza topped with arugula. The dough was hand tossed freshly made to order. We're adding this spot to our favorites. We plan on coming back and trying more items on the menu. With the wine list and savory desserts; you can't make this a one time visit. I didn't get a photo of the front, however there is outdoor sitting at the entrance. This is a huge plus. We sat outside and enjoyed a lovely lunch savoring each bite of deliciousness. There was sign about a wine night. I suspect they have numerous wine nights given they had a nice selection of wine. I love the atmosphere here! It's spacious, friendly, and a little bit trendy.. I've almost always come here on the suggestion of others, usually visitors. How's the food? Meh.. Average. I live here, and have stopped in many times, and I'm never impressed with the quality of the food... The pizza's always lack flavor, and are just missing something. Every sandwich I've had here is dry and needs more... I know I'm being vague, but that's because I can't exactly place what's wrong with the food, it just doesn't make me want more. I went here on Thursday night with 3 coworkers while we were traveling on business. We were able to be seated right away, although they were moderately crowded. Our server was very attentive. She did a great job answering any of our questions. They can make half versions of most, but not all of their salads. So be sure and ask about that. I had a half Amalfi salad to start and it was really good. I'd highly recommend that. Three of us had pizzas and one coworker had lasagna. The pizzas are designed to be a per person item, but depending on on your appetite, you might get to take some home with you. I did not. :-). We shared a tiramisu for dessert and it was quite tasty. It looked like the restaurant had a great patio but we were there in January. Also know that there is parking behind the restaurant, but it is not apparent from the front of the restaurant. read more

I rarely write a review but I can't get over how many good ratings this place has ( and the reason we went). We live out of town but frequently come to the area visiting. We tried this place based on the reviews. The penne alla vodka tased straight out of a jar and pasta right out of a grocery store box and at around $20 the portion size was also very small. I had a side salad that sounded great on the menu but tasted basic and had almost no dressing. My daughter had Brussels and that was the only really good item. I did not know that the smiling manager checking in on us with a "table touch" was the GM, but when Erin greeted us unsolicited l, I couldn't help but let out a big LAUGH as I then explained to her that we had recently had a less-than-wonderful experience at Pistarro's, so it seemed ironic that she was approaching us with such good will. After a rather long conversation about restaurants and keeping your customers happy (and coming) I feel little reluctance in sharing that this place will certainly EXCEED all expectations for hospitality in the short and long run with her guidance. Chloe our waitress was also wonderful and fun. Of course the pizza is always fabulous at Pistarro's, but come for the service now too. Good job guys. read more
