We rounded up mackerel and used them to catch inshore striped bass all morning. Then we went to some deeper spots not too far off and caught and released cod. You will see events happening here all season from movie nights to small concerts, to school events etc. This is a great place for those with fair skin to enjoy the ocean as there are many trees to give full protection from the sun. Pack a lunch and head on down to Red Rock Park and enjoy all the ocean has to offer. FYI there are no bathrooms available and food is approximately a mile down the street. The walk to the pier was again through a path enclosed by very tall weeds, trash, and zero visibility from the street. The pier is in major disrepair. Planks of wood were wobbling and popping up out of place while walking the pier, the rails are crumbling and not safe to lean on. About 30 minutes in I noticed the two junkies spying on us from the bush. Overall a very uneasy feeling. There are signs everywhere warning against removing shellfish from the area, yet there were dozens of poachers out there filling up entire bags of clams, no rangers. it was low-tide when we arrived and no bites. Left after an hour. I will not return and I recommend avoiding this pier. Too many homeless addicts looking for an easy mark. The entire time I was worried my car might get broken into while I'm on the pier. Sketchy to say the least.
