Does this place have awesome, personalization and really, really, great diner food... You Bet Ya! This is where the locals go.. .and they show up early at 7am, even on Sunday. This is finally the place that has the right portions and price, post-COVID... right? We happened upon Pippos on our road trip, we loved it so much that we will now make Pippos a destination whenever we head to Colorado. The classic American diner is a rare find. Pippos is a perfectly cozy spot with really friendly service and excellent food. Sit at the short bar and watch how it's done. Eggs cooked properly, fresh meats, breakfast breads, pads of butter, milk machine, cold fresh OJ...it's a symphony for breakfast lovers. Thanks for such a cool experience Pippos. Juevos Rancheros with pork green chili. Yummy. My only complaint was that the eggs were a little undercooked but still good. Flour tortillas were whole wheat not quite what I expected. Still good. I'd definitely have breakfast here again. read more

Man, hands down one of the best breakfast places I've been to. Pancakes, French toast, omelette, biscuits & gravy, everything is top notch. Very classic roadside diner/cafe feel where locals seem to go. The only reason I'm not giving 5 stars (or 6 if I could) is because of their lack of caution regarding the COVID-19 pandemic. No precautions or safety measures in place. I'm very happy we came here to eat and I'll gladly come back and look forward to doing so. Hopefully sooner than later. read more

This is a great local diner. My dad used to come here every afternoon back in the 70's and it was old then. Still a great authentic diner for a hearty breakfast or lunch. Come early because it fills up with locals. For those of you from other countries, this is as real as it gets in the West. Farmers and cowboys alike walk through the doors. Our family stopped in this quaint diner on a Sunday morning. We ordered eggs, over easy and scrambled; omelettes; bacon; sausage; country fried steak; hash browns; grits; pancakes; toast; and biscuits with gravy. The 6 of us were stuffed. Good american food. Love their potion sizes and their thick bacon. Small place, service was slow, but that's fine, it was really busy. However, no one is wearing a mask and they ostracize you if you wear one. Even the chef isnt wearing a mask, and i think for hygiene purposes all chefs should be wearing at least a spit guard. read more

Why do such tiny places have such good food? Driving through Cortez and stopped at Pippo's for lunch. (They close at two, so breakfast or lunch only.) When I walk in, I almost regret stopping the place is small and can use a remodel, but it's clean and I'm hungry, so I sit at the counter and order a club sandwich. The club, though simple, is the true test of any diner. The club was fantastic! Bring a ziploc, because there's enough on-the-go sandwich to make at least one more, so you'll only be able to eat 1/2, but you'll want to save the rest for later. read more

I went for breakfast. Ordered scrambled eggs and a pancake. Eggs were a rubbery and difficult to eat. The pancake was burnt in parts and also tasted like the batter itself was off. The apple juice I got was pretty awful and didn't help to wash away any of the taste of their food. My friend ordered one of their combo plates and felt similar about everything except the bacon. She enjoyed that. I would say "at least the food was cheap" (my meal ended up being less than 5 dollars) but when we reviewed the receipt, no prices were listed (see picture). I asked for the cost of each item to be written so my friend and I could know how much each of us were supposed to pay. That was when the blue prices were added. After some more back and forth, because I still didn't understand what any of these scribbles meant, I learned the total cost of my personal meal. Definitely a place made to attract old people who prefer large portion sizes and cheap eats to quality cooking or nutrition (I didn't see any fruit on the menu anywhere). I had a great breakfast here yesterday -- Denver Sandwich. The green bell pepper, onions and ham were all nicely grilled and had great taste. Folded into well grilled eggs and put in grilled white bread with some American cheese resulted in an excellent sandwich. The hashbrowns were a little less crispy than I like, but I know a lot of folks like them this way. The restroom is reached by walking through part of the kitchen, giving you a nice view of where the magic happens. Restroom was basic but clean. We had 2 days in Cortez on our recent trip out west and both mornings we went to Pippo's Cafe because we both enjoyed it. Pippo's is situated on a long strip of road in the "downtown" area of Cortez. You'd drive right by it if you weren't paying attention, it's small and inconspicuous, but it packs a punch; both the customer service and the food! Both mornings upon arrival, we were greeted immediately and seated. Even though the outside of the restaurant appears small, they certainly know how to pack patrons in! There are perhaps 15 tables (at most) but plenty of seating at the counter. The decor is mainly those kitschy word signs with sayings like "the best things in life aren't things." There are a lot of these, so there is plenty to look at. Our waitress was the same both mornings, a sweet, friendly and attentive woman. Both mornings, I ordered the same thing except I added a side of hash browns the second morning and man, was everything so good. They offer half orders, which is great for those of us whose eyes are bigger than our stomachs; so they deliver a good amount of food which leaves you full, but not so full that you can't breathe or stand up. The eggs were cooked perfectly and the pancakes were hot and delicious. If you're ever passing through Cortez between the hours of around 6 a.m. - 2 p.m., you must stop into Pippo's for an excellent breakfast and/or lunch experience. read more

Its a teeny place with the best breakfast hands down. No fuss here, I sat at the counter and ordered. They handled my dairy allergies like pros. So I came back a couple more times! Underwhelming. I stopped in for breakfast and sat at the counter. I was immediately greeted (kind'a hard to ignore someone at the counter) and served coffee...which was burnt. I ordered the huevos rancheros and one biscuit & gravy. The special indicated that they had "sausage gravy" so I was hoping for...well, SAUSAGE. The huevos rancheros were actually not bad, except that the tortilla, or the oil it was cooked in, was stale. The hash browns were good, but unsalted. The eggs were cooked well, and the green chili was actually pretty decent. Now the "sausage" gravy. I don't know why these little diners can't figure out how to make even a passable gravy. Instead, they use the powdered crap from Sysco. They don't add anything to it - not pepper, salt, and (God forbid) SAUSAGE! The server, while cordial, didn't stop to ask how my food was, or even to refill my burned coffee. If you want a decent breakfast go to Beny's, just down the road. read more
