In short: My advice if you buy from Toyota of Gladstone: check every number, compare everything to…read moreyour original quote, and make sure your deposit is actually credited! Long version: Buying a car is always daunting, and unfortunately my experience buying a 2026 Camry from Toyota of Gladstone reinforced why. I initially inquired about a used Camry but switched to a new 2026 model. The salesperson sent me a link to the exact car I wanted, and I put down a $1,000 deposit while waiting for it to arrive. The deposit paperwork referenced the wrong vehicle, but I was told not to worry--it had been applied to the correct car. The salesperson was sweet, friendly, and never pressured me, which I appreciated. But once I decided to buy, the process became incredibly confusing. I was presented with multiple versions of paperwork with different numbers. The MSRP was wrong. The Toyota-offer price was wrong. The salesperson went back and forth to someone else easily a dozen times trying to get the paperwork corrected. I eventually started taking pictures of the purchase agreements and comparing them to my original quote myself because I couldn't keep track of what was changing. I eventually made it home with the new car...but woke up in the middle of the night realizing they had never applied my $1,000 deposit to the purchase agreement. I contacted the salesperson the next morning and was simply told it would be refunded in 3-5 days. No apology. Had I not caught the mistake myself, it's clear I would have overpaid by $1,000. Overall, the salesperson was low-pressure and responsive, but the paperwork and purchase process were sloppy, confusing, and riddled with errors. Also, I was promised to get copies of everything I signed, but wasn't provided with them at the end of the day. After three hours of confusion and frustration, I was exhausted and just wanted to leave. As I was leaving, they reminded me, "Don't forget to give us a five-star review!" After spending three hours sorting through incorrect and changing paperwork--and then discovering the next morning that my $1,000 deposit hadn't even been applied to the purchase--I have to admit, that request aged pretty poorly.

She got excited. We looked up some on carguru and Platt came up in our search. Their place was few miles down the road so we went down thinking we'd be turned away. Peter was more than happy to accommodate. He let us test drive a couple different models including a Bolt. It really opened our eyes to these vehicles. He talked with us after the test drives and was happy to answer questions, give advice and info on all types of EV's (this was after close mind you). We weren't quite ready to purchase a car yet so we left. Peter's non-pushy attitude and kindness stuck with us. About two months later we decided to pull the trigger. I couldn't think of any other place to look for an EV. We had a list of options we wanted and Peter accommodated us and pulled a bunch of cars from their list. We test drove a couple AWD Nissan Aryia Engage+ e-4orce and really liked them. We went ahead and purchased one. It was a lease return with 15k miles. The EV was in great condition and the price was right. They were generous with our trade in and all the paperwork was very swift. I think we were out of there in under 2 hours. We highly recommend Platt Auto if interested in an used EV. You wont be sorry. They have a lot of different models to choose from.

However, I am not and never will be good at undoing codes or locks. First of all I did not know my car had a "valet mode" probably because I'm too cheap to use that service when available! Side note- when your vehicle is in valet mode you can only operate the vehicle up to 30mph and you have no power steering Yes, it was humbling to drive down I-205 in the slow lane being flipped off and passed in annoyance! This however Does remind me to be more patient with slow drivers! They may be suffering the same sentence handed down from their child! Ironically we were taking the vehicle to be detailed. I'm sure the owner thought we did not trust him or that I worked for the CIA and had an incredible amount of classified data on my media console.JK we were hurried and after a mini attempt to master "The unlocking of valet mode" I surrendered defeat and vowed to unlock it after it was detailed. The following day I picked up my car. I pulled out my owners manual to research valet mode. After an exhaustive futile search I admitted my powerlessness and called the dealer. They told me to call the general GMC customer support. As I am making calls I'm simultaneously trying to google my way into a code breaking revelation! After 4 department transfers Finally GMC suggested I call on star (no I don't have "on star" activated to answer your ?) but they assured me they could help as they oversee that portion of the vehicle. So I call "on star" and I am trying to hit the right number to get me to a human so I can have a 2-way conversation! Yet, all options seem to lead to a 1sided conversation and me being the only breathing option. Finally I am sent to a customer service agent and I'm like 8th caller in line! So I wait and keep googling and reading trying find the answer. Suddenly The hold music ceases and I began to hear an open line (yeah! ) and then click! I'm hung up on! Ughs! So I repeat this process. Finally I get to an incredibly helpful empathetic rep who tried earnestly to find an answer for me. Until finally I am the one saying "it's all ok I'll try a dealer again! I'm sorry you are are so sorry we don't have an answer!" At this point I'm beginning to realize their is obvious reasons they don't just give you this valet code! Dah! So I see most people had to take it to a dealer, wait for an appt and were charged around $200!! So I call Michael back at Auto Buick GMC dealership in Gladstone. First he says You are still working on that???? Yes it had been hours of my Saturday! He said bring the vehicle by now and I'll have one of my guys take a look at it. You were my hero's on Saturday!

After I filed for bankruptcy, Auto Town GMC sent me a letter claiming they wanted to "help" me. At…read morethe time, I was deciding whether to keep my van or surrender it, and not one of my accounts was delinquent when I filed. Bankruptcy happens for many reasons. Mine was caused by serious health circumstances, not because I was irresponsible or unable to manage my credit. I own a credit repair business, so trust me, I understand exactly how credit works, and I will rebuild mine faster than most people would expect. Apparently, Auto Town's idea of helping was trying to put me into financing with an interest rate in the teens. They saw the word bankruptcy and assumed they could charge me an outrageous rate without considering my actual payment history or circumstances. This is where they made their mistake. Do not try to bamboozle someone who understands consumer rights and whose complaint game is strong. Do not send people sympathetic letters pretending you care and then present an offer that feels designed to take advantage of them during a vulnerable moment. That is not help. It is opportunistic, insulting, and some straight punk behavior. I kept my van, and I am glad I did not accept their so called assistance. I will also be filing complaints with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau and the Better Business Bureau because I believe this offer was predatory. Know who you are trying to play next time.

Arguably deceptive Business practices. On April 11, 2026 My…read moredaughter bought a 2016 Kia Optima from Ron Tonkin Kia in Gladstone. On August 29th 2026 Her car was stolen using the "Kia Boys" technique of smashing the window and ripping out the ignition, using a USB Key to drive off with the car. While that isn't news, it shouldn't have been possible. Kia issued a software update that would have stopped it. Kia also issued and update for a zinc sleeve for the ignition. Neither was completed on the car prior to my daughter buying it. There was no disclosure that it wasn't done either. No mention of it. A sane person would assume a 10 year old car would have had all the updates done by the dealership on intake of the car prior to selling it. Well, that's not the case. When I questioned it. The GM told me that "We would get in trouble with Kia if we even told the customer, it has to be initiated by the customer" I called Kia directly. Their customer service rep said that is false and that Kia encourages their dealerships to do the updates prior to the cars being resold. I understand why as it gives Kia a black eye. I've also noticed a trend.. Kia and Hyundai cars that are in the years that are easily stolen are turning up on Facebook's PDX Stolen cars page a lot, Here's where it ties in. They are all used Kia and Hyundai cars from Tonkin dealerships. These cars would likely not have been so easily stolen if the updates had been completed prior to the cars being sold. I am giving 2 stars because they did replace my daughter's window and ignition, and buffed out a few scratches on the car. I am grateful for that, but the car is still considered totaled due to the amount of damage that it sustained after it was stolen (over 10k worth). I am filing a complaint with the Oregon DOJ. I'm sure I'm not the only one. I would love to see a policy change at the family of dealerships. Maybe filing a complaint will force a policy change from the leadership.
