The food was really good. We each ordered a soup. The minestrone (my husband) looked wonderful and the sausage soup (myself) was fantastic. Thick and rich with great flavors. We went a second night and I ordered the Bolognese with shells and my husband a salad. Wonderful. When we come back to the area we will head there for dinner. Also from the bay area and after reading the other guys review thought we'd try them. Overall, way overcooked, way salty and way overspiced spiced foods. We tried lasagne, meatballs, Rossa sammy and a side of chicken. Wouldn't recommend. Try another place. Sorry pinocchio, y'all need to have your cooks realize how much salt and spice and temperature they are using. This place is magical. No, not because of their name, well maybe a little, but their subs and sandos are really tasty. Pinocchio is the family last name and they're 4th generation family owned. They have different deli meats and ingredients and will happily help you with any questions you may have. They have a cold deli and also a menu with toasted sammies. Their #1 sandwich is the cricket, which may or may not be named after someone's conscious. I tried it and now I'm hooked. As a matter of fact I'm typing this while I wait for my second sandwich in two days. I ask for extra pepperonis and slightly sautéed onions on it, freakin' makin' me give a little whistle. Sorry I had to! They serve gelato too. It's a small selection but craft fully made by another family owned business. Family owned. Italian subs and sandwiches and pasta etc. It's in beautiful Sonora, CA. The place is decorated by you know who and believe me there is old school memorabilia here. I been reading up on the sandwich called the Pinocchio supposedly it is the one that started the whole restaurant wow was it good I glad I didn't get the cricket it is the same as the Pinocchio but more meat I think the sandwich had ample amount of meat it was done just right not too soggy or cooked to much it was perfect and delicious just remember one sandwich will feed the both of you they are large nice a crispy just right the place is very clean the help us very nice people try this place if you are ever up that way read more

The food was fresh, homemade and delicious! My husband loved the ravioli's. Just like momma makes!! The Ambiance is nice. A lot of Pinocchio paraphernalia for the kids to enjoy:-) WOULD HAVE GIVEN 5 stars but.....Be careful of the waiting area! The bench seats DO NOT connect in an L shape. There is a space where I fell in! So be careful! Also know the difference between the Daily Specials and the Specials on the menu. Cause if you get it wrong the waitress will make you feel like it can't be fixed and than punish you by letting your food sit up on the counter until everyone else is done with their food. My parents shared the Mclean and both of them rated it high marks (one said: could not taste the bacon jam, per se - but the overall flavor of the sandwich was outstanding. My partner had the Pinocchio, and said it was the best Italian meat sandwich he'd had in a very long time. I had the lasagna. OMG! What a find this place is! Been living in the area for just over 3 years. Have gone past this place a few times with the intention of trying it out. I am sorry i waited this long. Finally got there today for lunch. The ambiance is fun and nostalgic. Of course Pinocchio is the main theme for this very Italian restaurant. There was no waiting for seating even though the place was packed. Our server was wonderful. We started with soup. I had the Italian sausage and my wife the minestrone. Both absolutely delightful! I had the meatball sandwich and my wife had the "change of pace" sandwich. I really enjoyed the meatball sandwich served hot on a roll with sauce, peppers, onions and cheese. Probably the best I've had. I could not get enough. My wife's sandwich was also served hot with a good amount of deli meats on a soft roll with cheese and onions. She really enjoyed it. There are plenty of options for both lunch and dinner at reasonable prices. A good selection of Italian wines beer and sodas. Although we didn't have desert (the meal was very filling), there were several good Italian deserts to choose from. We decided that this place is now on our go to list for lunch and dinner. We've come back here for dinner a few times. We've tried the meatball sandwich, ham and cheese and French dip. All were so so so good. The gelato is amazing. We will keep coming back here for sandwiches as long as they stay open. Maybe try some pasta or something another time but really their sandwiches are by far the best in town. The owners were very gracious to let us hang out in spite of the restaurant being fully packed. Was informed they were new owners who recently purchased the restaurant.
