The ladies run hard and take exceptionally good care of everyone, from keeping the cups or glasses full to cleaning and reloading every table to keep the boys busy and everyone fed! I used to love going to my garden cafe when I lived in Sonora. I'm up visiting so decided to stop in. Unfortunately it's not what it used to be. I ordered a breakfast burrito and French toast to go. The burrito was smothered in salsa (not even the good salsa, it tasted like paste salsa out of the jar) super soggy and all over the hash browns, I took one bite and was completely turned off. So I went to my French toast, which was okay, but I had to go buy maple syrup because all they give you is caramel dyed high fructose corn syrup. Over all I was pretty disappointed with my order this time, really sucks to spend so much money on food and not want to eat any of it. But seriously, don't smother someone's to go burrito in nasty salsa when it's not like that on the menu, put it in a side cup if you must. Also, spend the extra bucks and get REAL maple syrup not dyed corn syrup! read more

Staying next door at the Aladdin Inn in Sonora, CA. Instead of a continental breakfast at the inn, the Aladdin offers each registered guest a $5 voucher towards a breakfast entree at My Garden Cafe(MGC). I really like this idea. Most complimentary motel breakfasts these days are tasteless, unripe fruit, a packaged dry danish and some coffee. But today we got to walk across the parking lot and into a friendly, home style restaurant, with many great breakfast options. I decided to move away from my usual eggs, bacon, pancakes and went with an 8oz ribeye steak, eggs and pancakes - whew! We're living now, folks! I requested the ribeye to be med rare, but when it arrived it was a bit more than med. Then it dawned on me, an 8oz ribeye would have to be pretty thin to look like a full steak, and it was. So, being a thin cut, there probably wasn't a snowball's chance anywhere that it could be cooked medium, let alone medium rare. All that being said, it was good and not as tough as I anticipated it might be. Yay! The eggs were scrambled fluffy and tasty, there was a more than ample serving of french fries(chosen in place of home fries or hash browns), and the pancakes were light and tasted like they were from scratch. All in all I was happy with my steak and eggs and hubby was happy with his bacon, eggs over medium, french fries and white toast. Coffee was hot, and topped regularly. Creamer options were half/half or flavored International Delights, which we like. Prior to taking an order, the servers asked each table if they were Veterans on this Veteran's Day. We think there was a special "thank you" offer, but we never did hear anyone say yes, so we don't know what it was. However, I'll err on the side of human kindness and say that good intentions were at play. Something we COULD hear was the chef through the service window talking to the regulars at the counter. Repeatedly folks would walk in and mutual exchanges of by name hellos would happen btwn customers and staff. That made me think My Garden Cafe is a real local hot spot. There were also a couple family groups that came in. Great vibe! I think this is one of the rare times neither of us finish all our food, but it was not for lack of trying! lol - Cheers! I've eaten breakfast here several times! I haven't tried lunch food yet, so I can't comment much on that but the portions are nice for the prices and the food is always good the boysenberry jam is TO DIE FOR. I get toast just to eat it. I could spoon it straight into my mouth and be happy. It can get busy, and it's a large place with lots of tables, so during peak time, it can get a little loud. It is very disconcerting to watch food handlers not practice preventive hygiene. Servers only pulled masks over their mouth and nose when they approached the table. The cooks in the kitchen wore no covering at all. It genuinely seemed as if the staff did not give AF. They were only minimally attentive and when I asked if I could have my companions untouched food to-go, the server came back with a container and dropped it on the table without saying a word. I mistakenly assumed the server would take the food away and return with it boxed. No attempt to actually be helpful was made whatsoever. To underscore the grossness: of the Garden Cafe, masks were NOT valued at all - like they were a petty thing that did not mean anything. The food was blah. Like what you'd expect for a local business striving to be only one step above a Denny's. Absolutely did not enforce masks or social distancing. No customer care whatsoever and the service was only poor. When paying the check near $50 for two including a 20 percent tip, I notice a tip jar allocated for the chefs. I said nothing but imagined dropping a note that said "where a mask". Petty, I know, but if you care about covid restrictions stay away from here. read more

My group of 6 came by for lunch at 11am. Our waitress, Carly ? was very friendly and had a colorful personality. We got seated in a table immediately and got drinks soon after. Our food did take a little bit to get to us, but we understood it was a busy lunchtime. Once we got our food it was amazing! I ordered the California Classic sandwich. I've eaten at My Garden Cafe in Sonora, ca for five years on a very frequent basis. Yesterday, I was served margarine on my toast. I think it's a real mistake to eliminate butter as an option. The server did not tell me I'd be getting margarine. So when I asked, he said they don't have 100% butter any more. He offered either 50/50 or 80/20 for my toast. I think it's a mistake to try to pass off margarine as butter. I will have to rethink my restaurant decisions, especially for breakfast. Always our go-to place for breakfast, even a late one. The staff is super engaging & friendly, even calling guests by name. Once I ordered a delicious BLT sandwich for lunch & it was piled high with soft, fresh bacon. Staff is willing to make substitutions for my allergies. Great pancakes Great service. Come early for early bird breakfast specials for $4.99 2 eggs potatoes and pancakes or just get the amazing pancakes $7.99 for 3 or $6.99 for two. Bring your own maple syrup though as they only have the Aunt Jemimas. Great service. My husband and I had a mediocre experience with breakfast this morning. We were greeted promptly and served our coffee ad water quickly. We waited a reasonably amount of time before our waitress took our order. When our meals arrived, my husband had ordered his toast dry, it was soggy with butter, my meal came with pancakes which I had to ask for twice. I had also asked for a side of salsa which came steaming hot. Never been served hot salsa with a meal. The waitress never apologized for the delay in the pancakes which were barely warm and tough. The only thing she did ask is if we wanted any water. There were two full glasses already sitting next to our plate. She was so rude and a total airhead! Won't be going back. read more

Came here because the hotel next door had a breakfast voucher, and I was pleasantly surprised with the quality of the food. I had a ham and cheese omelet the first day and substituted toast for the hash browns it came with. They served the toast with homemade gooseberry jam, which was a nice touch and very good. The omelet was surprisingly good, nice chunks of ham and good cheese, so the next day I ordered it again, with country hash browns, which were really excellent. The coffee was decent and the service was friendly and efficient. They have a big room in the back for larger parties, as needed. Prices on the menu were regular diner fare. I'd go here again without the voucher. read more
