Went to lunch on a Wednesday at the foothills cafe. This restaurant has been here for a long time. My mother in law went regularly for breakfast. It is small and the decor is old. The waitress was very friendly. Although there were only two other groups she didn't check on us. I had the Sierra salad. Apparently the menu recently changed. The salad was supposed to include chicken but it was served without the chicken. When we pointed out the omission they cooked some up. The lettuce was fresh and there was lots of bacon. My SIl had a cheese burger. It was big enough that she brought half home. It included lots of fries. My husband had the chorizo omelet. They make their own chorizo. The chorizo spices were good but he thought it was dry. Overall lunch was filling. read more

Good people, simple food. My son and I enjoyed lunch here. The owner's are hard working simple people with a warm and inviting personality. The burgers we had were nice and the fries were simple. They can seat a group of 10 or so as well as have plenty of room for others. It's not a place you'd drive out of your way to go to but if you are passing by and hungry for breakfast or lunch, it's a good place to stop. read more

I love Foothills Cafe. It's a clean, family-owned restaurant with that comfortable "Sit where you want!"vibe. Their full menu offers a wonderful variety of options, several omelettes and other breakfast choices. The sausage gravy and biscuits is epic and their coffee is full bodied and delicious. I love the owner and I enjoy visiting with her. And Ozzie, her chef, knows what he's doing back there in that kitchen! I love his goat cheese omelette. Excellent!!!! The waffles themselves could be considered good depending on what you like in a waffle. They were crispy on the outside and like air on the inside. Great if you like light fluffy waffles. Personally I prefer my waffles a little more dense. So that I actually feel like I've eaten something. The ambiance leaves a lot to be desired. It's in a tiny trailer. painted a dirty pink color inside. and absolutely crammed with stuff on the walls. The service was terrible. Waited to get our coffee forever. I felt it was overpriced for what you're getting. Wish there would've been more accurate reviews on here. Could've saved us a sort of depressing breakfast. read more

Wife and I wanted to support a local breakfast place on our way home (the next morning) after a night at the casino. As usual, Yelp ratings came through again. I got the Logger breakfast and wife got the Popeye omelette. Both were outstanding, very fresh ingredients and large in size. Lots of hot sauces to choose from for your meals...the ghost pepper hot sauce is recommended. This is a classic "local mom and pop" restaurant that serves great food. Portions for this place are good and the staff is really nice but the cooks are horrible. I ordered the Philly cheesesteak, And a chorizo burrito. The meat for the Philly cheesesteak was unseasoned, texture was ok, and bread was super thick. Also, the fries themselves were super white and not crispy at all. The burrito looked super appetizing but there was zero flavoring to the burrito. This fine restaurant is located at the west end of Sonora, CA, directly across the street from the Tuolumne County fairgrounds. Such a fine restaurant to enjoy a great breakfast or lunch! As you enter the restaurant, you'll notice a counter, without chairs, and the semi-open kitchen. The restaurant is very "old school," and reminds me of diners I used to enjoy back in my younger days. After my friendly server Violet took my order, she placed it on an "old school" order wheel, to relay my breakfast to the talented chef in the kitchen. There aren't any computers found in this fine restaurant! The restaurant features a massive line-up of just about every variety of hot sauce available in Tuolumne County! You just grab your choice, take it to your table and enjoy... I was overjoyed to see Cholula in the group, so I picked up a bottle for my table. From the "Breakfast Classics" section of the menu, I went with linguica and eggs, which is one of my favorite breakfast entrees. Naturally, you get your eggs cooked any style, your choice of hash brown or country potatoes, and your choice of toast. Yesterday I enjoyed country potatoes, so today I went with hash browns, and sourdough toast, which is my de facto standard, when it comes to toast. The large linguica sausage was split open and grilled to perfection on both sides, sporting faint grill marks. The sausage was placed on top of a MOUNTAIN of perfectly cooked hash brown potatoes, with the perfect mix between golden brown, and lesser crispy pieces. I ordered eggs over easy, and one was cooked perfectly, the other one was a little on the "harder" side, but I'm not a picky diner, so it worked for me. The sourdough toast was hot, with lots of real, melted butter. Today was not a "coffee day" for me, so I opted for a glass of ice water, which was on the house. Such a delicious breakfast! Outside of the fact that one egg was a little on the "hard side," this breakfast was amazing! The sausage was tender, mildly spicy, and just "pure linguica," any way you looked at it. The large order of hash brown potatoes had the perfect mix of everything, and the toast was fresh, buttery and wonderful. This was a great breakfast! The food is delicious, the dining room is pure "Americana," the portions are HUGE, the price is reasonable, and the staff is super friendly. This place is great. We were in town for just one night & looking for a good breakfast. Everyone in here seems to know each other & it definitely has a small town feel. The food can't get any better & the staff was friendly to us out of towners. I loved how they had flavored International Delights creamer on table. Oh, big, hardy portions!! I took half my omelet with me, no sides. My boyfriend was able to just eat just the chicken fried steak,(& loved it!) & couldn't eat his sides. I'm not sure how this place has the reviews it does. The service was very slow, everything from taking our order to serving the food, and the waitress complained that she and the cook were the only ones there. (There were not very many diners in the place either.) Just like another reviewer commented on. My husband wanted an egg white omelette and was informed they didn't have egg whites and she could check if he had time to crack some... what the heck!!! You're a breakfast place!!! He ordered something else, not to inconvenience them. I could overlook slow service if the food is amazing or at least good. My over medium eggs were over cooked, bacon overly done. Pancakes eh. Driving back from Sonora pass we stopped at foothills Café because it had a four a half star review. Promptly greeted by the owner we were seated immediately and brought water. A pretty good menu for breakfast. I had eggs bacon hashbrowns and biscuits and gravy. It was probably the biggest pile of eggs I've ever been served in a restaurant. The bacon was correctly cooked and the home fries were delicious and spiced just right. The biscuits and gravy were ample and had a good meat flavor. I think it's the only time I've had breakfast out that I couldn't finish my meal. Not because it wasn't delicious but the portions were fairy generous. The owner is a bit chatty but very nice. I would highly recommend it. They also had a huge selection of hot sauce! read more

Your typical American breakfast/ brunch spot (lower end) tucked in the hills of Senora. We arrived 10 minutes before they were about to close and the waitress was nice enough to let us come in and order. We ordered the Mexican burger and turkey melt (the turkey was a little dry, but overall it was good with the thick cut bacon on sour dough). Both were pretty good, but nothing out of the ordinary. You get to choose a side and we chose garlic and sweet potato fries. The food came out very hot and the fries were extra crispy. It was a substantial amount of food. We split 2 meals amongst 3 people and it was plenty enough for all of us. Overall, it satisfied our hunger and met our expectations. read more

Stopped here on wednesday after going to new melones lake, walked in and was happily greeted by a waitress who let us sit wherever we wanted. We ordered french toast, eggs, bacon. My girlfriend chorizo with eggs and potatoes. Everything was super great tasting and very quick to be served. I would definitely eat here again. The only thing that kind of sucked was the water. When we first sat down the waitress brought us some waters and asked if we wanted anything to drink so i ordered coffee. Then while we were waiting for the food i tasted the water she had brought us and it tasted awful. Almost as if i was drinking water from outside and down the street where the car wash is. Anyways, its not the business's fault, im sure theyre working to get that problem fixed but it most definitely is worth knowing before eating here. If like to rate it higher but everytime we've gone there the owner spent most of the time complaing about working too much and not being able to find good help. I get it that its frustrating but we don't go in anymore because of the negative atmosphere. Food is decent, not great kinda like a lot of roadside diners. It's food and it's ok but there are better places around without the negativity. I hope things improve for them and they find good help but we are soured on it now. We decided to take a chance since they were not crowded and it was closer I where we were. We were pleasantly surprised. Yes, it is not a place to go for large parties- they have a sign that tells that too. It's a one person hostess/waitress/cashier and another one person cook in the back. The potatoes were really good, French toast was good too! Had a mimosa too! Wait was reasonable for food. Prices were reasonable.
