Back in the early-to-mid 2000's, when I was a teenager, any time my family would take a day to go…read moredown to Buffalo and shop at the Walden Galleria, we would always call and place an order at Bozanna's Pizzeria to pick up on our way home. I can remember the amazing aroma and how we, and our stomachs, were going crazy, waiting, until we got home to dive into that pizza! In the years since Bozanna's closed, there were a couple pizza places that were able to duplicate the special pie - Armor Inn Tap Room and The Grill on Erie come to mind, but they eventually closed. In 2026, my Facebook feed started sending me posts and pictures of Deniro's Pizzeria and their "Bozo" pizza. I sat and watched a video they made explaining their "Bozo" pizza recipe and I was stoked! After months of seeing pictures and video, I finally had the opportunity to give the "Bozo 2.0" pizza a try and, if you couldn't tell already, I am soo impressed!
I called and placed my order on a Saturday around 4:40pm. The gentleman who took my order was friendly enough and said it'd be ready in about 35 minutes. Around 40 minutes later I pulled into the parking lot and grabbed a spot right by the main entrance. Deniro's was at one end of a row of businesses with a nice-sized parking lot. I walked in and out in less that two minutes. The gentleman who rang up my order was nice, he didn't say much; The staff working in the kitchen were friendly enough - I walked out of there with all of them thanking me, telling me to have a good evening, so that was really nice! I wasn't inside for very long but it's not too spacious in there, I didn't notice any tables and chairs to sit and eat at, but that's pretty typical of most Buffalo pizzerias.
You probably already know what I ordered: a large (18", 8 slice) "The BOZO 2.0" - thick crust, a special, hand-crafted red sauce, a generous layer of cheese and a choice of flat or cup-n-char pepperoni, which I went with the flat pepperoni to avoid deviating from my memories of Bozanna's. As soon as I opened the box, I was brought back to my teenage years - The copious amount of pepperoni, the metric ton of cheese, plenty of that tangy red sauce, the sturdy dough underneath with the crispy crust on the end! That first bite transported me back 20 years ago (!). Deniro's NAILS the Bozanna's Pizzeria recipe, I honestly don't have one critique about it. Every slice is loaded and dense, you'll want to have a good appetite for this pie. Now, I will admit that the price for a large "The BOZO 2.0" is higher than most other large pizzas around Buffalo, but for what and how much you're getting with this pizza, it's totally worth it to "treat yo'self"!
This was my first time trying Deniro's Pizzeria - I had a really good experience! The staff were courteous, friendly, nailed their order-ready timing and "The BOZO 2.0" is a very respectful and faithful adaptation of the original Bozanna's Pizzeria recipe. I'm looking forward to coming back and trying a couple of their specialty pizzas and I cannot wait for my family to be in town again so that I can treat them to "The BOZO 2.0"!
