Everything there was great, pizza just right, wings were delishful. Small but with the right attitude.

It's been almost a decade since we have stopped at gandys. For a late Saturday night quick meal, we decided to give them a try. We ordered a large cheese pizza and 20 wing special. For $41 it wasn't a terrible price as compared to some of the other local offerings. I wanted to get the wings extra crispy, there's a fine line between extra crispy and then dried. These were right on the border of going to the dry side. Mild was spot on as was the barbecue. They could have used a little more sauce on them, which is my only real gripe with the wings. The pizza was very heavily coated with cheese and the sauce was on the sweet side. It was definitely a brace in the hand kind of slice because of the weight of the cheese. It could've used a little more seasoning on the top, but it was pretty average in terms of pizzas. I have been on a chicken finger run lately, and this place hits the spot. I get them plain with hot sauce on the side. They come with fries, which are also delicious. You can also upgrade to curly fries. Recently, I had a friend over and I ordered a pizza and single order of fingers and they were both delicious. I cannot say enough about Gandys. Every item that I have gotten off the menu is perfection. The owner is friendly and cares about customers. Once they had accidentally mixed up my topping, he was so very apologetic and honestly it was unnecessary but completely heartfelt and so appreciated. You don't see that much in business and if I wasn't already a customer for life that would have sealed the deal. I cannot recommend enough their pizza especially with mushrooms is today for. Their chicken wings are large and the meet is plump, white, and so very tender. I'm not sure how they do it - either they get in top-quality wings or they brine them or something. I'm assuming it's just their focus on buying quality ingredients! Their chard barbecue wings are extra special and they make their own barbecue sauce and triple dip before putting them on the grill. It is not overly sweet like some of the processed ones and other pizzerias- it is phenomenal. The fish fry is one of the best in Buffalo and I grew up on ginmill authentic fish fries! They wrap it in such a way that it stays crispy... the salads on the side are all house-made - potato, macaroni, coleslaw- all delish! The chicken puffs are unique to them and out of this world - they are beer battered chicken tenders. Get those with the potato wedges and you cannot go wrong. Their turkey sub is cut into a "turkey club style" with the roll cut in thirds to make three layers - delicious and it seems that they roast their own turkey because that was not deli meat! A personal tip from me because they are abundant with their ingredients I order light cheese on my pizza because they put on more than I've ever seen from another pizzeria, again I think this is because they enter please enter customer and quality oriented. There is always a few people waiting and socially distancing for their food, they have a great system - everyone goes in one at a time and pays, you can go back to your car and wait for them to bring your food out or you can feel free to wait outside if you like. RUN to Gandy's.. you'll never be disappointed! Support one of the best local businesses in town. PS- if you think I'm hamming up this review, rest assured that it is only from my LOVE of their good. The fish fry was amazing. So big the top wouldn't close. You get a huge piece of fish , French fries, potato salad,macaroni salad,rye bread and butter. Was ready when I got there and was delicious. So much food I couldn't finish it. It is a family business. read more

I really want to like this place because my in-laws like it, but their pizza has always had no flavor to me aside from the tomatos in the pizza sauce. Their wings are okay. Quality control being non-existent is the biggest issue. On three previous occasions my wife and I have tried their tacos and liked them quite a bit. Tonight we ordered and the one taco was soaked in what seemed like half a bottle worth of oil. The tortilla was soggy and gross and it made the veggies soggy and gross. My sandwich was somehow soggy on one end and dry to the point of being rock hard on the other. Also while I was in there I saw the older gentleman that works there putting what looked suspiciously like a frozen pizza in one of the pizza ovens. I really hope that was his personal pizza and not what they're selling for standard pizza prices! Also the interior is dirty which is kind of a turn off. On the right side of the seating / waiting area there is an out of service ceiling fan that is just caked in dirt and dust. With as many little pizzerias as there are in the area I can't recommend this one because when it's bad it's bad. read more

Gandalf from Lord Of The Rings kept his Handys up his sleevies and he didn't Bandy about feeling Randy, although if he did, that would be just fine and Dandy... much like the Barry Manilow song Mandy, or the British electronics store Tandy, his organizations seemed to be very disbandy, as in they fail at plan A, B and C, and end up also failing at Plan-D, with Gandalf ending up sleeping on a beach (at least it's Sandy), and then finally having the idea to open up a pizza shop named Gandys. I really wanted to love Gandy's and they came highly recommended... but I have to be honest and say that I didn't love them that much at all. The service was nice and the people are good people... their most popular dish seems to be the Chicken X which are basically fried pieces of chicken, and actually sound really delicious. You would hope and expect them to be delicious for the price (I think the smallest order is $10), but the truth is that they are pretty basic and standard fried chicken tenders that are breaded in the same sort of batter that you would expect for a Fish Fry, but not a very good one... a sort of bland, tasteless one. Very unfortunate to say this. After 5 or 6 unsuccessful attempts, I was finally able to try a pizza slice here recently. Thank goodness. The slice was average. I liked the crust even though it looked a bit generic, it tasted good. The sauce was okay, a little bland. The cheese was fine. The pepperonis were nice. In a city full of wonderful pizza I found this one to just be okay. However my travelling companion said it was delicious, and she loved every bite. However I didn't taste anything that would cause me to raise Gandalf up from 4 to 5, or indeed to lower it to 3. Honestly it is more like a 3 star place to me, but with nice service, honest people and a family-owned place, it's always going to get that extra star from me. I do think they have excellent service, and I think that people who are fans of fried stuff in general, and bland American style fish fries, might really like them. They're worth a try, they're definitely different and original, in the sense that I haven't seen them on the menu at any other pizza places recently. Or ever. At all. Like, ever. Whoa. So anyway, head on over here and take a gandy at them moccasins. There's an Amish girl on TV telling a kid who looks like the guy from Malcolm in the Middle that she has never been to a party before. Tried it on a recommendation from a Cheektowaga residents Facebook page. We got the Gandy Speciality Pizza and 10 BBQ char wings. Ordering was no issue which I always think is the best part of starting somewhere new. Went to pick it up and they were following all guidelines to a tee. On top of that, the place was bright and clean! We were told 45 mins and they were right on time - I don't mind waiting for things but don't tell me 30 then it's 60, ya know? The pizza was perfectly seasoned and was not dripping with olive oil like some of the pizzas this style can be. The crust was not thick but not paper thin either and the homemade sausage was so flavorful and cooked perfectly. The wings were done consistently throughout and were sauced with just enough to stick and not be a disaster. I would have given 5 stars but I want to reserve that for a good ol cheese pizza to check out the sauce and amount they use. We will definitely be back. read more

Tried Gandy's for the first and last time tonight. So many friends have been hyping this place and specifically the pizza so we thought we'd try it. After waiting for close to an hour we arrived home to find our pizza order was not corrrect. We paid close to $40 for a large and a small pizza that were nothing special. The women working when I came in was miserable and rude. First attitude was given when I called to make the order, she told me 30 minutes. I got to the restaurant 25 minutes in, waited in line to at least pay and she said I'll have to wait another 15 minutes, like I'm the idiot for thinking my food would be ready on time. Having grown up on Nino's pizza in the southtowns, finding a comparable pizza in the northtowns proved a daunting task. Once I moved, I took a ride one day and grabbed menus from all the pizza places within a 2 mile radius (which landed me with over 15 menus!). We liked a few, didn't like a few, and never bothered getting to Gandy's as we were happy enough. I had all but given up on the Nino's replacement and was settling for good not great. Gandy's is a pretty nondescript building and is all but stripped down inside except for a counter and a bunch of ovens and fryers. It's nearby to Johnnies, La Nova, and Sorrentinos - so why bother, right? My memory of walking in to get a menu was that it smelled good, but that was it. So when we finally got around to ordering from Gandy's a good 4 years later, it was more of a whim and a joke than anything else. If I had regrets... that would be one of them! This pizza is seriously amazing. In fact, better than the previously unreachable Nino's replacement, as I don't need to inform them to go light on the sauce like i do at Nino's. The perfect Buffalo pizza: gooey yet crunchy crust, the perfect thickness, super high quality cheese, lightly sweet sauce, and crunchy pepperoni puddles. Ooo, and those crunchy cheese bubbles on the edge above the crust... always fighting for those pieces. The wings are also great - the way I like them (crunchy and lightly sauced, but the husband likes his softer and saucier, so that's where we have to compromise sometimes!) 2 things that almost pushed them down to 4 stars: 1. don't bother ordering anything other than pizza/wings/subs. We've tried a few other menu items and were underwhelmed, to say the least. But this is a pizza place, it should be judged on the merits of the pizza food. 2. They are surly. Just be prepared. Abrupt, efficient, and certainly not chit-chatters. But honestly, this has become part of the charm of Gandy's to me. Don't expect any sweet talk or general social greetings (ESPECIALLY if the Sabres are currently losing a game)... just get in, and get out with the best pizza you'll ever taste!!!!! read more

I love Gandy's. I drive past a few others pizza joints to get there, but it's worth it. The owners and staff are great. The food is always fresh and tastes great. A big thing for me, especially with pizza is consistency. Gandy's is always the same... a great value that tastes awesome. Something changed with the triple decker subs and they aren't as good as they used to be. Also the woman who works there is so miserable and rude on the phone and in person. I work in the service industry and if I have to put on a nice face I expect people to do the same for me especially when its only for a 20 second phone call and a 20 second pick up. Old school serving repeat local customers. Finally just added a website which is just their menu for now. Son had friends over for card games every week for over 6 month and always ordered pizza. Everyone happy. Today I ordered a cheeseburger for myself. I am very particular about my cheeseburger sub. Not happy with local sub shops for years so I was not expecting much but I have to say was very happy. Called in the pepperoni and sweet pepper pizza at 5:35pm. Guy says 35 minutes so I show up at 6:10pm. I walk out with the pizza in hand at 6:34pm. I find this completely unacceptable. I would have been less upset if the time frame told to me on the phone was an hour. Also the website and the prices don't match. Tuesday Wednesday says $12.50 large pizza, in store says $13.50. Called three hours before close to place an order for a little bit less then an hour before close. Just in time for me to get out of work and grab dinner. But the child that was working informed me that they usually close early if they are dead, we don't like to stay all night do you know what I mean he said. Then after talking to a 'manager'.
