Breakfast was hit or miss. French toast was decent (although it seemed to be grocery store white bread instead of actual brioche bread) while the pancakes were really rubbery and tough. My hashbrowns were drenched in grease (so much so that I couldn't eat much) but my boyfriend's were really solid. Other than that, the eggs, bacon, and sausage were solid. Would give the food a 4/5 for diner food but a 3/5 overall -- decent but not good enough to make me want to come back. The place itself is small but has a classic diner feel. Nice, but very busy little diner located within short walking distance from our hotel where we didn't want to spend $50/pp for breakfast. They provide solid, standard breakfast fare like pancakes, eggs, sausage, hash browns , etc. Service is quick, friendly, and efficient. The servers manage to stay cheerful and gracious despite how crowded and chaotic the environment is. We really appreciate their hospitality. Visiting for the weekend from out of town and went out to get breakfast. No greeting from employees. No instruction on whether to wait to be seated or to seat myself. I waited for a couple of minutes when some customers leaving told me I could sit anywhere. Counter was full, but I saw at least five empty tables. While making my way to a table, the busser stopped me and said it's not seat yourself, so I went back to waiting at the front for a table or a spot at the counter. The same busser then came back over to me and said "don't wait for a table because you won't get one". I was confused and asked, "so should I just go, then?" And he said yes. So good we went twice in a row during our SF trip! This old-time restaurant was the highlight of our culinary experience in SF, after a long day out touring the city, we stopped at this place spontaneously, not expecting the amazing service and delicious food we were in for. The family was tense after we'd missed our tour bus, but everything instantly changed after staff members "Anna Banana" greeted us warmly and handed us menus. She was so nice. The portions were perfectly sized for two people making the meals incredibly affordable. All waiters continuously were checking on all guests. You just don't find this kind of place anymore! The food was so good we came again for breakfast the next morning. The perfect American breakfast providing all the sustenance we needed to continue on our SF tours. Graveyard Workers are nice and food are great. Sadly, I am being charged twice in different names. Pincecrest without 401 and different charges with 401. The Pinecrest with 401; waitress and I, we both did not see on the card machine history. She told me to dispute in bank the charges for 401. My bank said someone used my card for those charges from pinecrest or someone in management charged it. I explained to the bank that the lady cannot see those charges under 401. The bank said she's lying and she don't know what's she's doing in the office. This YELP messages from April-July. Management lady sent me charges that is matching to my charges without 401. She cannot locate the 401 charges. Fast forward, the word "maybe" from Pinecrest management to accused me to dispute all charges. When I am only complaining about all 401charges. read more

First off let me explain the 5 star rating, it is measured against "diner" standards and against those standards it is a top notch diner. The ambiance (if you are there when it is busy) is a pretty seamless staff taking orders, refilling coffees, delivering food and clearing tables for the new people coming in. Diner ambiance is about the pace and efficiency and how quickly the food arrives hot and steaming at your table and here, the day I was there, all cylinders were firing. Next is the service, see above for the comments about the staff just grooving to the waves of people that kept coming in. One minor nitpick was my inability to get a glass of water even though I asked the same person 3 times. I'm just gonna assume that wasn't part of his scope of responsibility. That minor setback is not enough to cost it a star in the review. Lastly, the food. Here is the thing about diner food, I want to say something like often initiated but never replicated or something like that. You would think this style of cooking seems easy enough - breakfast foods, comfort foods etc but the reality is it is harder than it seems which is why the GOOD diners need to be recognized. The following is my criteria so be forewarned: a well seasoned grill, never underestimate a grill that has made thousands of hashbrown tiles (a large flat tile taking up at least a quarter of the grill) to be carved up per order. plus bacon plus sausages plus meats grilled plus eggs. If you have never cooked over anything eggs on a flattop grill with the spatula and a well timed flip with your spatula, or a sheet of scrambled eggs swirled and chopped apart with the same spatula. My over medium eggs were perfectly over medium (the number of times I get over medium eggs with the eggs whites still runny - I cannot even say) the hashbrowns were crispy on the outside, soft fluffy awesomeness on the inside. The chicken fried steak was crispy and also fork tender, I could cut it with my fork. The table also ordered pancakes and biscuits and gravy. Big fluffy biscuits and both the chicken fried steak and biscuits were smothered in thick and creamy sausage gravy. The pancakes were soft and fluffy and delicious. Good diners, authentic diners seem to be disappearing but as long as places like this exist getting a great diner style breakfast (I want to come back for their burgers ngl) then there is still hope. read more

May daughter got the nachos and they were huge! My husband got a turkey club and said it was very good. If you have leftovers, package them up because there is the sweetest homeless man outside singing Sinatra with his dog Maxi. We gave him tons of leftovers and he was very appreciative.
