I had high hopes based on the reviews. First off our waitress was friendly and accommodating, for the issues we faced. The ambiance was ok. However the food was not it. I had the chicken biscuit with hash browns. The chicken was reheated from the day before. The breading was soggy and fell right off when taking a bite. Very disappointing to say the least. On a good note. The hash browns were outstanding. Hopefully they make the needed corrections and live up to their great reviews. We arrived when they first opened. So maybe they were not fully prepared for service. I will say if you enjoy hash browns. Give them a try.
If I could give 0 stars, I would. I took myself on a solo date and asked to be seated at a table. After sitting for about 5 minutes with no service, the hostess finally circled back and said she'd get my server since she noticed I had been waiting. Mind you--there were only three tables in the entire restaurant being served (including the table, I was at), so I couldn't understand why it was taking so long. After another few minutes past, I decided to move to the bar, where I hoped the service would be more attentive. I ordered a drink, an appetizer, and an entrée. When I finished my meal, I asked for a to-go box, finished my drink, and requested the check. While waiting, I noticed something at the bottom of my glass: a dead fly. I discreetly told the bartender, who informed the manager. The manager came over and coldly stated that it would take "3-5 business days" for a refund to hit my card. Naturally, I assumed she meant the entire bill. Instead, she clarified that only the drink would be refunded. No apology, no concern for my experience, no accountability. They simply voided the first bill and re-charged me minus the drink. I have eaten here many times in the past and even recommended this place to friends and family. After its temporary closure, I was excited to return--but I wish they had stayed closed. The quality of food, service, and management has completely fallen off. I will absolutely not be returning, and I made sure to leave my to-go box sitting right on the bar. This was beyond disappointing, and I want nothing to do with this restaurant moving forward.
As the song lyric goes; "the more things change, the more they stay the same." This rings true at Pineapple Ink Tavern (PIT). They have made a switch in theme (not so much decor as menu-food and drinks). The owner decided to focus on dishes from his Cuban childhood. He states, "Family, friends, and community are important in Cuban traditions..." You feel this sense of family upon walking in. The team here has always been warm and welcoming, and knowledgeable of the menu (especially important when it comes to for dessert!). I have been seated both inside and out and though both are comfortable, I would recommend deciding what kind of mood you are in when choosing. Outside is a high traffic section of Broad Street (both vehicles and pedistrians). People will be walking by all the time. There are days I want that "city feel" and embrace it. But this last time it was a Wednesday evening and I was trying to unwind. I wanted ambiance, calm, and some AC. Thus inside was a great fit. Now let's talk about this food. I don't normally mention seasonal/speciality items, as they may be off the menu by the time you read this, but this one is worth mentioning. The Cuban Ramen bowl. It is just want it sounds like; a Cuban sandwich transformed into a bowl of Ramen. And oh it was delicious. The textures and flavors made every bite a sensation. But let me back up, the presentation is a work of art. I couldn't take it in fast enough. And I will say it is very filling, but for me there's always room for dessert. I went with the gava basque cheesecake because...is that even a question? I will be back specifically for that! Creamy, but not too thick. Sweet, but not syrupy like Southern sweet tea. And again, beautiful presentation. I do not visit here enough. Also, though I have yet to visit I am planning to return on a Sunday and try their brunch specials which includes a French toast of week (past flavors; Tiramisu, cookies and cream, peaches and cream, snickerdoodle).
The ambiance of Pineapple Ink Tavern was super cute! I had mixed feelings about what the menu was going to entail as a Cuban inspired menu. However because we came on the weekend, we got the brunch menu instead. I ordered the BELT (bacon egg lettuce tomato) sandwich which came with a fried green tomato and avocado on the sandwich. The overall sandwich was huge. A lot of egg, the fried green tomato was fried fresh. It was piping hot. The bacon was delicious. I'm a sucker for avocado so this was a win. It was accompanied with some homestyle potatoes. Literally this could have been shared. My wife had the hot honey chicken biscuit with the homestyle potatoes. She said it has a nice spice to it. My mother in law joined us and had the chicken and waffles. She said it was good, chicken was seasoned. I'd like to try it one more time when the other menu is available. Also the waitress was non existent. We started with Jenise and she was amazing. Then we got Carmen, who we saw to order, and then to leave. In between time she was no where to be found.
I had the chicken and waffles. It was chicken and WAFFLE. Singular. It comes with six breaded wings and a waffle. A tiny waffle. Which is fine bc I usually waste two large waffles but man this one was tiny. It was missing something. I'm not sure what. I will revisit. And I'm not sure why it had powdered sugar. The wings were kinda tiny too. They were just warm when they came out. I wish they would have been piping. But I enjoyed them. They had good flavor. And were not soggy despite being laid on top of the waffle that had honey butter spread on it. Could have maybe used a little seasoning. But again. I enjoyed them. 5.5 for bacon ala carte is crazyyyyy. But it was super good. Applewood. Whoever was cooking knows what they were doing. It was perfect. Not too limp. Not too crispy. Perfectly balanced. I wanted eggs a la carte. But I had to pass for $5. Overall. I enjoyed it. But for $18 for six tiny wings and a tiny waffle. Add the $5.5 for three strips of bacon. It's not a lot of value here. And my drink was $16 and was essentially an old-fashioned. This is not Atlanta. Also. The place wasn't empty but it was definitely seats available. I made the decision to come at 12:45p Saturday and was able to make a reservation and get seating by 1. All that to say, why wasn't my food piping? It came out fairly quick. But was just warm. The star of the show though. The service. Man my server was amazing. Karmen. Top notch. Definitely a pro. Not too overbearing. But attentive. Very. Never felt like she was rushing me. And the woman at the bar. Superb. I had to use the restroom. But wanted to look at the taps. She asked me questions about what types of beer I liked and offered samples. I love them (the staff). I'll be back.
I was excited to try Pineapple Ink Tavern after their recent renovation and revamping of the menu. However, upon seeing the menu online, I felt kinda... underwhelmed? I tried to push past it though and went with my friends to try it out. I ordered the Cuban Coffee and the Doblé Doblé with a side of fries. Cuban Coffee was basically an espresso shot. I don't really know what's Cuban about it? It was strong and robust, and it didn't come with milk, just turbinado sugar packets. It was alright, but I don't think it's worth the price. The doblé doblé was essentially a burger with chorizo mixed into the beef patty. I liked the flavor of the chorizo, it really shines through because the burger was simple and didn't have a lot of condiments on it. The little potato sticks on top was a nice touch as well. But overall, it just seemed like a regular burger other than what I said about the chorizo flavor. It wasn't life-changing. Fries were not very noteworthy. Overall, the experience was okay. I wasn't blown away by the food, but I wasn't particularly impressed either. I strongly prefer the pre-renovation menu, but since it got phased out, I don't really see it coming back in the future. And I guess that means I don't see me coming back in the future, either.
Came here after the reopening to try the new menu with several of my Augusta local friends. There isn't a lot of seating, so there is usually quite a wait, but we were able to get a table reasonably quickly due to one of our friends going early. Both me and my boyfriend got the lechón, which I did enjoy! He felt that the plantains that came with it were a little too sweet, and I thought the beans were a bit flavorless (and had a slightly bitter aftertaste), but the main meat was excellent. I will say that come served with a wedge of lime, but if you put the lime on it, The lime will be the predominant flavor of the dish, so don't use the lime unless you really like that flavor. My boyfriend also got the electric drink, which he really enjoyed. The rest of our party had a great time, and did also enjoy their food. All in all I do think this is a place to try once if you if you have not been!
After reading the Augusta Chronicle headline that downtown Augusta was getting a new Cuban restaurant, DH and I made it the date night location for first Friday. As South Florida natives, we are both well versed in Cuban cooking and looked forward to 'home cooking' with flavors from home. We arrived 'early' to a packed restaurant at 5:20 pm (I always take that as a good omen). We had starters: ham croquettes for DH and empanadas de picadillo for me. Fresh out of the fryer, these were initially too hot to handle. The flavors were a little different from what we were accustomed to as Native Miamians, but hunger is a sauce that makes anything taste better. We had a 15-20 minute wait on entrees. Our server, Annie explained that the kitchen was "backed up". DH's Cuban Sandwich looked the part, but the flavors were more southern than Caribbean. It was disconcerting to taste country ham instead of sweet ham, pulled pork substituted for slices of garlicky roast pork and my husband is STILL murmuring about the wrong bread. My Medianoche sliders had the same switcheroo, but the Hawaiian bread was not an egregious substitute for the Cuban sweet bread. About the only dish to taste as expected we're the tostones. Annie explained that although the owner was Cuban, the chef/cook was not (which explained a lot). While our expectations were dashed, to be fair, the food was good and the restaurant was well appointed. The crowd was a testament to the restaurant's popularity, so perhaps next visit we'll leave our expectations at home.
I'll preface this review with the caveat that I'm Cuban so my standards are probably unrealistically high for the CSRA. That said, I've tried this place three times now after it was rebranded to a "Cuban-inspired" restaurant. I had high hopes. They were all dashed. I've had: Garlic shrimp entree--overcooked served with unseasoned rice Lechon asado--lacked garlic/citrus/mojo and tasted like it went in an oven unseasoned Maduros--solid, I'd be real worried if these were messed up since they're probably bought frozen Empanadas-Picadillo is legit good and I don't understand why it isn't on the menu Tostones--not cooked enough Southern Gentleman--a $32 steak dish for breakfast that was unseasoned and overdone Spanish French toast-inedible mushy bread described as being topped with a "variety of fruit" and in reality served burned with maple syrup and nothing else Breakfast hash bowl with poavhed eggs--the eggs came out hard boiled so we ate this without eggs because our food had already taken more than 45 minutes when there were only two tables seated in the whole place I've tried to order Cuban coffee twice but the espresso maker has been broken and they've brought me Cafe Bustelo made like regular drip coffee. Cocktails are usually OK even if they managed to spell Abuela wrong on the menu.
Service was great, our server was on point. Our drinks were good as well,hats off to the bartender. Everything here was completely different from the last time my wife and I ate here. It was a completely new menu. Kinda put off Cuban vibes for sure. We were looking forward to having the cheese curds we had in the past with the killer dipping sauce that came with them. However those are no longer on the menu. We did have for starters the Brussels, the seasons and toppings were great, but because they only cut them in half's instead of fourths they were a little uncooked and took longer to chew. We also had the Croquettas those reminded me of my Puertorican culture. They were very delicious when cooked right. I say that because my first order had 3 burnt and over cooked ones hidden under the perfectly cook ones. However my server had the kitchen get me out a perfectly presentable new full order. Their Coquito was ok, that's only said because I have a family recipe that I make every year. I'm part of one of those Puertorican family's that think everything we make is better lol. I can't remember the names of the entrees we had but I should add the flavors were amazing and food was cooked with passion.
The food was delicious! Only the shredded pork empanadas were super dry-- wouldn't recommend those. They had some problems at their bar (didn't have Tito's, didn't have the IPA on their menu), but the bartender was super nice and accommodating. One of us ordered an "extra dirty martini" but got a lemon twist. When I told the waitress it was supposed to be a dirty martini, she looked at me like I was inconveniencing her and said they don't have olives in the restaurant... which is fine, I would just tell the customers up front next time so they can order something they'll like!

Food is 5 stars! Short staffed which isn't everyone but just acknowledge your table and at minimum serve drinks - @30 min to take a drink order after seated is a bit long. But I will say after our server got out of the weeds he was amazing and the food more than made up for the rocky start. Chicken wings BEST EVER and Cuban sandwich is enough for two! Double double freshly ground beef that melts in your mouth. Fresh doesn't begin to describe their food- it's all from scratch from your craft drinks to the hand cut fries. My first time going here was awesome! The second was even better. The first time I had the bottomless mimosas. I felt pretty good when I left so I don't remember what I ate. Haha the second time I had the chance to sit outside. I did wait over an hour for my food however the manager was more than polite and made up for every minute! By The second time I went my friend I visited with the first time had passed within a few weeks time frame. We told the manager how bittersweet being there was without her and they came out with a drink named after her . It was so heartwarming! The food is beyond good. The menu changes so you don't have to worry about the a static menu. The staff is friendly. This is now my go to brunch place! read more

Went to dinner with my sisters and had a first great experience! The atmosphere and service it's phenomenal. My first drink was a pineapple mojito which was super refreshing and very yummy! The lechón asado was so tender and juicy in flavor, the beans had a delicious flavor and the maduros( sweet plantains) was just in the right and sweet taste ! My second drink was afternoon delight (not picture) was lovely, sweet which I love but the taste of liquor was great. Can't wait to go back read more

Nice little spot downtown. I've heard alot about this spot & was waiting to try. My sister in law & I met for dinner around 1830. Thankfully we were seated fairly quickly. I had ordered the Open Door Policy... it was ok. Not my typical type of drink. Slightly tart but good nonetheless. We ordered 2 appetizers..the duck fat Brussel sprouts & the shrimp & scallop ceviche...we LOVED the Brussel sprouts..that outdid everything. For dinner she ordered the shrimp burger & I ordered the pigsraimi...OMG..so tasty & I loved it way more than her shrimp burger. Our server was great. We would definitely visit again. read more

So I'm updating my review for two reasons: 1) Pictures, 2) Operations So nothing has really changed much from my last post. I like the food, the drinks and the atmosphere. Really cool and eclectic vibe. The waitstaff is accommodating and friendly. So no complaints which is why I keep it as a 4 star despite my next comment. Operations: they don't allow reservations, fine. They don't do call a heads, that's fine as well. But there is no process in place whatsoever for people waiting to dine. Essentially they guess people will be honest on when they arrived. Definitely not the case. Saw three couples who arrived almost last prior to opening and all rushed to the front. Apparently they were more important than the rest. However simply having someone sign folks in as they wait as they arrived eliminates the self absorbed population. I'll try to come back again, however if this doesn't change may not be back since I go to have a good time when I eat and getting skipped by others when trying to do that does not help read more

Stopped here in Augusta on our way back from the mountains of north Georgia. A great modern tavern, truly excellent food and great, friendly service. For mains at lunch we had the duck confit s and the shrimp burger... both outstanding, highly recommended! read more

Meandering the streets of downtown Augusta on a Saturday we had plenty of options to eat at. After looking at many menus, this one caught our eye with the mac & cheese options. Husband ordered the cowboy mac & cheese which had a little bit of spice to it, but was still delicious. I had a veggie mac & cheese which was so so so so so good. And this is coming from someone who is obviously a mac & cheese expert since I placed second at last weeks office mac & cheese cook off. But really. Order the veggie mac & cheese. And the French onion soup if it happens to be the soup of the day because some of the best we've ever had. Service was great, We will certainly come back next time we are roaming the area. read more

I went in one afternoon so excited to try the duck! To my shock it was very salty and not at all what I expected. I was highly disappointed however I did go back and get the shrimp burger which was EVERYTHING! I may give the duck another try at a different time. read more

First time here since they opened. We used to come to the older place Fuse. So I was excited to see what the new restaurant is like. So happy to share that it's a great place. I love how they made the place look very artsy and fancy. Check out the wine rack. Pretty cool! They are practicing social distancing and other safety rules for COVID. The menu is tavern like but with a twist. We sat at the bar where we got fantastic service. Drinks and good is amazing. The sandwiches are tasty but they are quite rich so come with an appetite. Fries in duck fat are delicious. Really fun place for hanging out. They do have a happy hour. Can't wait to check it out. read more

The service was amazing and the food was just as great. I have a shellfish allergy and wanted the fried deviled eggs. They offered to cook it in a different oil for me so there would be no cross contamination. They went above and beyond for my safety read more

Amazing! We only had drinks but the fact that they have a bartender who is an actual mixologist is great for Augusta! Can't wait to come back and try their food. We asked for a lions tail, who's is an old 1920s drink that we have only had at a speakeasy bar in Atlanta and they delivered! read more
