biscuits and gravy
Cora M.

Another delicious breakfast at Oine State biscuits. Got our first snow last night and the first thing on my mind for breakfast was a warm pine State biscuit in Reno. And a lot of other people had the same idea because it was a 15-minute wait but once we were able to enter and get a table number, we were able to place our order and we were served in less than 10 minutes two piping hot biscuits. We ordered the McIsley: chicken biscuit with pickles, mustard and honey. It made a beautiful picture but the mustard was a little bit too much for me. It was a spicy, grainy mustard and while the flavor was good, there was just too much of it so I would order it again but I would ask for the mustard to be cut in half at least or put on the side. The other biscuit was the Chatfield: chicken with cheese and apple butter and that was really amazing, very, very good. This is a great place and on a cold, frosty Reno morning, it was perfect. The staff is very friendly and all the customers were enjoying their breakfast. It was a great morning. Yhe restaurant is decorated very cute and was very clean. You are asked to bus your own tables. It is a great spot for brunch. One note: they do close at 2:00 p.m.

My family and I were in town and the kiddos wanted to have biscuits. The biscuits itself were very soft and flaky on the outside, just how I like it. The grits were good and they had a special dessert which was like an apple pop tart. The staff were nice but it took so ling to get our food. The restaurant is small, if you come with a big group, you will most likely have to sit outside.

I love the biscuits and gravy. I feel it's necessary to get a dish with biscuits given the restaurant name but I really like shrimp and grits so when I saw it on the menu I had to order it! The shrimp and grits are overall god but I felt they were a bit off. I'm used to buttery flavorful grits and these were a tad bland and drizzled with what tasted like unsalted butter. The mushrooms on top were very good and so was the shrimp. Mixed Altogether it was good but I really think the grits could be amazing.

Very nice place for lunch! Staff was attentive, communicative, and kind. I was seated right away and food came out almost immediately. The Reggie was a delicious, filling, savory breakfast sandwich. The place was clean and had the cute kitschy aesthetic.

I visited Pine State a few months ago - can't believe I never finished my review! I was in town for a conference, and that meant I had a chance to check out the food scene in Downtown Reno! Treated myself to a slow morning and took a short, pleasurable ramble over to Pine State from the Renaissance. It was early, just after opening time, and there was only one other person dining in - so grabbing a table was super easy. Pine State hails from Oregon originally, and the space feels like Portland or NorCal transported to Nevada. Cool, hip and funky. I was excited to have a chance to try the Veggie Reggie, being a vegetarian, biscuits and gravy a usually off limits for me. This one features a vegan breakfast patty, soy bacon, and Tillamook cheddar topped with shiitake mushroom gravy - so it was on! The Reggie came out quickly and looked amazing! Huge and oh-so decadent. I got there right at opening and I think the staff were still getting into the swing of the day, because my gravy was pretty cold, which was a disappointment - and probably muted the flavor a bit. I also appreciated the early am fine cup of coffee.

This is the second time coming and my first time leaving a review. The food is awesome and fast! The waitress had my food out before the last guy in my party of six had time to order. It's perfect for big parties because you order and pay for your plate before sitting down. No messy bill split at the end. The only thing I wish was that they offered sunny side up eggs. I asked why it's not an option and they said they flip every egg. Didn't really answer why. Great food and a tiny spot. Really homey. Mushroom gravy was bomb.

Lean brisket, eggs, tangy braised greens, and biscuit

Nice to have a place that mixes it up a bit with some home-style cooking. I got their new breakfast/brunch special, which came with a biscuit, a protein, two eggs, and a side. They did my over-medium eggs perfectly, and the brisket was nice and smoky and also surprisingly lean. The braised greens on the side surprised me a little with the flavor at first--I thought it was a bit too salty, but the tang seemed to come from like a vinegar flavor or something, and it kind of grew on me. Went pretty well with the other parts of the meal. I have to admit I was a little surprised the biscuit was a bit dense and dry--still tasted fresh/made, just a bit off in terms of size and taste compared to the rest of the stuff on the plate. We also got the beignets, which came with a nice bourbon sauce, but sadly a few of them weren't cooked all the way through. The interior was very bright (lots of windows) and clean, and the service team behind the counter was very pleasant. Also, I thought the price was fantastic for the special--like $14.95-for a very satisfying and overall well-made meal. We'll be back to try other stuff on the menu.

Pine state Biscuits is worth the stop it you're in area!! I got the shrimp and grits and it did not disappoint. My wife and family got the Reggie, which they demolished so I'm assuming it was delicious. The biscuit itself is soft and fluffy and pairing it with their strawberry jam was perfect. It was busy but the staff were very efficient and pleasant.

One of my wife and I's go-to for a solid, delicious meal when we're stay-cationing in Reno. Service is sometimes lukewarm depending who's there, but on our last few visits it's been stellar. Seats can be hard to come by, but never impossible in my experience. Brunch is our favorite.

We came here early Saturday morning and decided to grab a table outside after we ordered since it was a beautiful day. All the staff are very friendly amd welcoming. I went with the McIsley chicken that came with pickles and stone ground mustard all between a fresh baked biscuit. The biscuit itself was quite fluffy and tasty. The fried chicken breast was juicy and overall was a good sandwich. I would get it again without the stone ground mustard however. It has a very unique taste and it just wasn't for me. The Shrimp and Grits my wife had was some of the best we've ever had. It was our first time trying a version that included sautéed mushrooms which I thought was a nice touch. She also got fried green tomatoes, but wasn't a fan of those as the batter overwhelmed the tomatoes. This is a great option for breakfast and I would definitely come back for the food and the chill vibes.

Traveled to Reno from Genoa to bring my toddler to the Discovery museum. I was hungry for lunch and wanted to see what great places Reno had to offer. There were several places listed close by via Google, but I saw that Pine State was a 4 min walk from the museum. I'm so glad I chose to come here. Who knew Reno would have some amazing southern food?! It's a small spot with limited outdoor seating and minimal indoor seating with approximately 5-6 four tops, about the same amount of deuces, and 2 booths in the back for larger parties. You place your order at the register and they assign you a table. They do bring your food to the table, but you are expected to bus your own table. Their menu selection is huge from all their biscuit sandwiches they offer to special southern dishes to desserts and pastries. As odd as it sounds you'd think I had ordered a biscuit item, but instead I ordered: - Shrimp & Grits - Blueberry Cornmeal Pancake - Peach Cobbler Pop-Tart - Arnold Palmer Every single item I ordered was DELICIOUS!! The shrimp & grits were so tasty with a mushroom bacon gravy. I've had some of the best shrimp & grits in Atlanta, and this one comes close. Their cornmeal pancake was also delicious. My 1 1/2 yr old son pretty much ate the entire thing himself (I only had a few bites to try it) and it was probably 7.5-8" wide. It's served with butter and maple syrup. But their syrup is so thick like they reduced it down which gave it this delicious subtle molasses flavor. Ugh! My mouth is watering typing this. Last, but not least, the peach cobbler pop tart topped with an oat streusel and what looked like, marshmallow fluff. The pastry itself was so good. Flaky and buttery - you could tell their pastries are made from scratch in-house. The pastry had the proper amount of filling with lots of cinnamon peach flavor. I was so full that I only ate a third of it and brought the rest home. I regret not getting a biscuit to-go just to try. If their non-biscuit items were so delicious, I can only imagine how good their biscuits are. This place is worth the 50 minute drive for me. I would absolutely come again to try more items. You must give it a try.

Random treat on Sunday. Wife wants to go to Pine State Biscuits...we go to Pine State Biscuits. Biscuits smothered in your choice a mushroom or sausage gravy. Think about this, where else can you get Brisket for breakfast?!? We enjoyed some wonderfully made scrambled eggs, collard greens and hash browns. The customer service is quick, the cashier and hosts are polite. Self bussing tables make for easy work. Whether indoor or outdoor, you'll enjoy the sounds of people enjoying their meal while outside, sure maybe a little bit of traffic too. Try their Diner Plate Special which is a combination of a biscuit, gravy, choice of sauce and 2 sides or The Money Ball Double Down which was an over easy egg over two biscuits and gravy. A great breakfast or brunch experience solo or with your family! I can't wait to go back and try their shrimp and grits!

Back again after a decade while headed up to South Lake Tahoe. This is the greatest most delicious invention of the 21st Century. THE REGGIE is AMAZING and the sausage gravy is hearty, slightly sweet, and so delicious! Thank you for being so great with great consistency! Wish we had a location in Scottsdale! Super friendly and wonderful service each and every time. Visit their original locations in Portland- super cool vibe!

The bread was soft, fresh, and packed with flavor, while the chicken steak was perfectly cooked, juicy, and seasoned just right. Every bite was better than the last. My wife ordered the Cheese Steak Sandwich with no veggies and we both agreed these were some of the best sandwiches we've ever eaten. The staff made the experience even better. Everyone was welcoming, friendly, and genuinely seemed to care that customers had a great experience. The restaurant has a classic deli atmosphere that feels comfortable and inviting. The biggest compliment I can give is this: I'm already going back for the third time in one week because I can't stop craving that Chicken Cheese Steak Sandwich on the jalapeno cheddar bread. To be fair I only tried one item, the Thai chicken wrap and it wasn't bad but it was a huge mostly cabbage presentation. Really there was very little chicken in it. I couldn't detect any peanut flavor in the Thai chicken sauce. Perhaps I should have tried a different item? The service was great, atmosphere was non existent, it's a bleak boring dining area. The only cool thing was the stickers on the front window. If I get back to Reno this place would be low on my return list. UPDATE: After receiving a message from the owner I plan to return to Full Belly Deli and try something different. It's tough to make a decision with the extensive menu and as I felt instinctively while there. The Thai Chicken Burritos wasn't the best choice especially when they may lots of breads in house. I'm sure I will be back within the next year, as soon as my client destroys the work I did on my last trip.

The au ju is flavorful, not too salty and doesn't leave some coat of something on your tongue.. the swiss/onion bread works so so well with everything.. the flavor of the Swiss cheese goes well with the au ju. We've had a few different sandwiches. my fiancée loved the meatloaf one and we both love the recent weekly specials.. They have a list of sandwiches but you can also make your own and choose which bread you want on any of them. The thing I love about them is you can order a half sandwich. Sometimes a full sandwich is a little too much and other times you just want a lite meal.. Cant wait to swe their next weekly special.

I will not be returning. The food was not the best to me. I love falafels but I've just had way…read morebetter. Now that's just my opinion about the food someone else might feel differently and that's ok. What really bothered me and the main reason I won't be giving this place a second chance is because of what happened while I was there. I'd never been here so decided to try it. We chose to sit in the court yard because even though there was trash and it wasn't clean and furniture was just stacked on top of each other in the corner of the entrance it was quieter for me then inside. And it looked ok plus it was a nice day to sit outside. Well even all that wasn't the problem. The part that bothered me was how a situation was handled. A homeless guy entered the courtyard and was really drugged and under the influence and he was covered in feces and he was very badly injured and was nodding off near me going in and out. He looked like he was going to overdose and then he wakes up and walks over to me and asks me for food. I said yes. Which I truly had no problem giving him food if that's what he needed. But his behavior left me and other uneasy feeling and so I had my knife out hidden just in case. A family of 10 was sitting next to us and felt so uncomfortable they went inside. So I go inside to order what the guy wanted and asked him to please wait on the side walk before I went in to order. So I get to the register and I explain to the cashier that there is a very drugged guy nodding off in the courtyard and that I didn't mind buying him food but could he give it to him and take the chance to tell him to please stay out of the courtyard and on the side walk. I explain I was disabled prier to this when I ordered for myself earlier and I am a 5"1 female and felt uneasy going back to the homeless guy alone. I asked the cashier if he could give the guy his food and ask him to please stay out of the courtyard and on the sidewalk. The cashier said no to me cause he didn't feel comfortable going up to a guy who was on drugs and acting the way he was. I told him another reason I had bought this guy food was so that he would wait outside which he did and this guy couldn't even do anything to help me. So your customer doesn't feel safe and you can't ask this person to please go on the sidewalk cause you are scared? Also i don't know what reason they have for not having the corner of the courtyard clean and trash picked up. This isn't my business and I did what I could to help since I saw the family feel uncomfortable and no one at THE FIX or any other restaurant there was doing anything? So if you don't care about a customers concerns I don't care to support you. I could honestly have overlooked the fact that it wasn't the best falafel I myself have ever had but I can't support a business who doesn't care about their costumers. Edited After speaking to someone at The Fix: I called to speak to someone about this. Apparently the guy has autism. Ok well then idk I'm disabled I have autism and I don't know what to say about that. I am not mad if this is the case but it doesn't change the experience I had. I am understanding being legally disabled myself but I wish i would of been able to speak to someone else about it who could of helped me with this concern. The guy I spoke to on the phone informed me I could have spoken to any of the businesses as there are multiple and I could of asked any one else for help and they would of helped me. But I went to THE FIX NOT ANY OF THE OTHER ESTABLISHMENT. So I feel it was THE FIXs responsibility to help me since I was their customer. Well all that aside once again i dont know why the courtyard is dirty and there is trash and chairs and tables piled on top of each other in the corner of the entrance. Your courtyard is a really nice feature and maybe you guys should keep it nice and clean. Like I said it was nice outside but not clean. Go here if you'd like this was my experience and there for I won't be returning. Sorry but you can go check it out yourself if you wish.
