Amazing biscuits and gravy! We got to their NE portland location on the weekend at peak breakfast time. The space is very small so it was a struggle to find seating but we were lucky and some seats opened up right after we ordered! The place is very family friendly and just a straightforward place to grab a good breakfast at. Food came out pretty quickly and the service was great! read more

You have to try their mushroom gravy with the Moneyball. They pour a great heaping of the gravy which is so flavorful and creamy. The biscuit was baked to perfection and maintains flakiness despite being smothered in gravy. The egg on the Moneyball gives it a depth if flavor. Enjoy this and the sweet tea. Pine State is a must visit whenever we're in Portlandia. It was a solo trip for me this time. I enjoyed a wonderful biscuit with a fried chicken breast, pimento cheese, all slathered in hot honey. SO GOOD. First stop when we got into Portland this morning. I got a Bloody Mary and biscuits and gravy, it was incredible. It's pretty self serve in terms of sitting and bussing, but we didn't mind, it wasn't too packed. No problems getting a seat by the time we ordered. We loved it here! read more

We wanted a simple warm breakfast and coffee and Pine State is the best for a homely meal in Portland! This location has small seating but it's not too busy at opening time. We came on a Sunday at 9AM and it was medium full of guests. We parked on the street that said two hour parking. After ordering we got a number and sat down reading the hilarious Portland Mercury newspaper found at the door and self-served a mug of Covea coffee. This was our first stop on our drive down from Seattle to the Bay Area! Great breakfast, really enjoyed the biscuit & gravy with fried chicken as well as the biscuit beignets. The gravy was not savory enough for me but the biscuit itself was really good so I ordered a plain biscuit separately and that was delicious, with a nice bite on the crust and a great soft inside. The flavor was also well-balanced, not too buttery or salty like some other biscuits I've had. Will definitely stop by on the way up to try their sandwiches and see the biscuits showcased that way as well! The biscuit beignets were super unique and I really liked the powder sugar ones (although both were great). I also normally don't like butterscotch but the butterscotch/caramel dip went pretty well with the beignets. Would definitely recommend trying these if you're nearby! read more

Great biscuits and gravy. Also had eggs, hash browns and a single blueberry pancake. Pancake was probably the best part. The 2 eggs and the hash browns are both $5 but the menu frames it in such a way where you think it's $5 for 2 eggs AND hash browns. The very nice staff behind the counter explained this to me (and like 5 other groups of people from what I could overhear). It's very small inside with mostly communal seating. They have a full bar from what I can tell. There's also another restaurant inside that serves Hawaiian food but it wasn't open yet when we were there for breakfast. read more

By far one of my favorite spots for biscuits and gravy. Every time I try biscuits and gravy somewhere else, I catch myself comparing it to Pine State. Their mushroom gravy is incredibly flavorful, rich, savory, and perfectly seasoned. I could pour it over just about anything and be happy. Nothing else really hits the same way. Usually when I come for breakfast, there's a huge line out the door. Luckily, I started my morning late on Sunday and showed up about an hour before closing, no line at all, and we got our food pretty quickly. Service was fast and friendly, which made the whole experience even better. read more

DELICIOUS!!! Placed an online order and the overall process was nice and smooth. Everything came as ordered as well. I got the Reggie with Nashville hot chicken and it was a 10/10. Not too try and the spice level was perfect for me. The portion is good and the chicken was nice and big too. I also got the fried Mac & cheese which was heavenly - definitely day dreaming about it. Wanted to go here for a very long time. I've heard about it as being a Portland staple and I just had never got around to going there. It was different then I imagined. Not in a bad way, just different. I didn't expect it to be counter service (meaning you order at the counter) and I didn't expect it ti be a seat yourself place. I also heard wait times were bad for seating and getting your food but we ordered, found a seat and got our food rather quickly. Service was great, friendly and prompt. I got the Reggie Deluxe. The gravy was amazing (I got the mushroom one) and so was the biscuit (Soft buttery and delicious) the cheese and bacon also complimented it all. The chicken in the sandwich was fine. It was a little dry but not terrible. Everything else made up for it. My kid got a biscuit two eggs and a snickerdoodle. Unfortunately he did not like his food much. He ate about half the biscuit a bite of eggs and a bite of the cookie. He thought the cookie was flavorless. I tried it, I thought it was okay not great. Overall I thought it was really good. I definitely would come back, probably would get the biscuits and gravy. With that said I probably would not bring my son again. This place isn't ultra kid friendly if your kid is remotely picky, just meaning there is no kid menu and I kind of had to piece together what he might like. It's more of the kind of spot you meet a friend or date for breakfast or brunch. The area is also kind of small so I you might plan to sit outside or just get your food to go especially if you have 3 or more people in your party. read more

Great food, but the service is what really made this place stand out. Everyone was friendly and welcoming, and the whole restaurant had such a warm vibe. Christian especially deserves a shout-out. I LOVE a good biscuit and they can be harder to find than you might think - unless you live near a Pine State location that is! On my last trip to Portland I tried one of their crazy stacked biscuit sandwiches which was good, but nothing beats their biscuits and gravy except maybe adding a fried egg on top. When I tell you I INHALED the whole thing at like 9 in the morning and was full all day! I also lucked out and got the last of their freshly made seasonal poptarts which made for a nice treat when I was finally hungry again. Can't recommend this place enough! read more

Pine State Biscuits (located on Schulyer,) was the perfect way to start the day with three very hungry toddlers. This location offers limited seating for large groups, but perfect for small parties. The ability to order ahead online is greatly appreciated, the customer service was awesome. The biscuits are truly FANTASTIC! My husband and I really enjoyed sharing a mimosa, BIG thanks to the team for even having it as a to go option! Oh and the grits! This southern girl is very impressed, they were excellent! This was really good & the cashier was very kind and checked in on me which I appreciated. I have a personal preference for white sausage gravy and have never seen any like this before so I was surprised but not disappointed. Got the Reggie today and it was so good! Loved the sausage gravy but I see other reviews saying the mushroom gravy is great too. I'll try that next time. Collards were delicious and had a little kick to them. The gentleman (man bun and tattoos) that took my order was so nice and patient with me while I looked over the whole menu. He had great energy. I came in on a Wednesday morning shortly after they opened. I ordered the Reggie and it was delicious! It is rather large so I cut it in half before taking a bite. The flavors were really good, chicken was moist and the sausage gravy had good flavor. This location is not optimal for large parties as the seating is mostly bar seats and a long high top in the middle of the room. All of the employees were friendly and helpful. Amazing service! We went on a weekday morning so it was easy to find a spot to sit. We tried the biscuits and gravy and the Reggie Deluxe. The biscuits are THICK and the sausage gravy was by far the single best thing we ate. You could literally put it on any of their items and it would be delicious. Fried green tomatoes were good, as was the pop tart, but the meals are so filling, you really don't need the extras. Would definitely go back! read more

These people know how to do biscuits. I had the hash up with a fried egg and pulled pork with a biscuit on the side. The biscuit is a monster, it's not a small biscuit and I love the crusty outside. The give you butter to go with it, but I think jams or jelly were extra and I thought that was odd. I came here after working out in the morning and I was really looking forward to my hash up with extra proteins on it. My biggest complaint and this is probably my fault, is that I assumed asking for a fried egg on top would be a sunny side up egg and I was craving a yummy yolk. So I was bummed that the egg was fried all the way through. I asked if I should've ordered it sunny side up or if this is always the way the friend egg comes and the guy who brought our food said yes. He also said he would've brought me out a sunny side egg to make up for it, but they were too busy. It was still good, just not what I expected. It's cool, next time I will know better if I ever come back. There is almost always a line so you know it's good. read more

A beautiful awesome day amazing people of the world. Today my buddy couldn't shut the eff up about this biscuit joint. So we put the navigation on and off we go. Welcome to Pine State Biscuits. I did that Regina sandwich that they had on the board since I'm feeling a little vegetarian. It's basically a side dish in between a sliced biscuit. Eat it with a fork and knife and it sorta feels like greens and cornbread. Still underwhelming though. Pine State Biscuits is a delicious breakfast/lunch spot! The location was kind of out there but we trusted we were in the right place when we saw a good number of people inside. Luckily we were able to find a place to sit. The Reggie deluxe was SO good, would definitely recommend. The biscuit was so buttery and warm, exactly how I want a biscuit to be. Free 2 hour street parking. Small restaurant, order first with self seating and self serve water, utensils, and hot sauce. You also clean your spot when you're done. Can be on the heavier side and is super filling. There is a choice between sausage or mushroom gravy. I got the sausage gravy with my Reggie Deluxe sandwich. Had a massive (albeit pricey) order for our group of 5, so we were able to sample a bit of everything. Had the following biscuits: the reggie, veggie reggie, bbq biscuit, wedgie, brisket biscuit. I liked the wedgie (fried chicken + fried green tomato) and reggie, the latter was drowned in a fantastic gravy. I tried the veggie reggie, which was also comparably delicious! Would prob come back for these biscuits, but would pass on the bbq biscuit and brisket biscuit as the bbq components were alright. Did take a while for our order, but was expected based the size of it. Very filling, and very high in sodium (chugging water the remainder of the day). Came to Portland for a spring break trip, was delighted by the different types of food hubs. Pine State Biscuits was by far the fan favorite, however. We ended up coming back a few times during our short trip and trying different menu items! I got the Reggie both times + beignets, and my friends tried the biscuit with gravy (sausage and shiitake mushrooms separate times), BBQ, and the chatfield one. They were all delicious and very filling. The Reggie: superb. I didn't expect the fried chicken to be cooked so well honestly, and the biscuit itself was so moist even without the gravy. One place put the gravy inside the sandwich while the other had it separate. Either way I ended up mixing them together. Beignets: a good amount of fluffy with that moistness from the biscuit. The little syrup/honey added a nice flavor. Powdered sugar of course made it challenging to eat, but worth it. Hash browns: delicious, just a bit bland initially so had to add some salt. BBQ: sauce was not what I expected, I thought it was going to be an actual bbq sauce but it was a vinegar dip. Not sure if I would get it again because I wasn't a fan of the sauce. Biscuits and gravy: the shiitake mushroom gravy is amazing, the sausage one was also super flavorful but too dense/filling. read more

Found this delicious breakfast spot just a few minutes away from our hotel. It's a small little place with a couple of tables and some barstools for seating. You order at the counter and they bring the food to you. There's plenty of options available, but they don't have the prices shown on the menu. I built my own biscuit with the buttermilk fried chicken, an egg and cheese which came out to $15. I added a side of pickles ($1) and ranch ($1.50). The price seemed really high, but when you see the biscuit you'll understand why. It is huge!! It was so delicious with such a fluffy and flaky biscuit. The chicken was cooked very well and paired nicely with the egg and cheese. I do wish it was a spicy fillet though (not sure if they have that). The accompanying roasted potatoes were cooked perfectly. I also got an espresso martini to wake me up and give me a buzz to start my day. But then our waiter surprised us with cannoli, for our anniversary! It sat atop Maryhill peach compote. Excellent! The service was impeccable. Our waiter was knowledgeable, personable and very attentive. We were also served by some other staff who did a great job as well. Good thing we've been married 42 years. If this was a first date where you want to get to know each other, it would be hard because it's pretty loud and the tables are crammed closely together. They really need a bigger space.
