You have to try their mushroom gravy with the Moneyball. They pour a great heaping of the gravy which is so flavorful and creamy. The biscuit was baked to perfection and maintains flakiness despite being smothered in gravy. The egg on the Moneyball gives it a depth if flavor. Enjoy this and the sweet tea. (Comes with refills)

SO GOOD. First stop when we got into Portland this morning. I got a Bloody Mary and biscuits and gravy, it was incredible. It's pretty self serve in terms of sitting and bussing, but we didn't mind, it wasn't too packed. No problems getting a seat by the time we ordered. We loved it here!

Pine State is a must visit whenever we're in Portlandia. It was a solo trip for me this time. I enjoyed a wonderful biscuit with a fried chicken breast, pimento cheese, all slathered in hot honey. Messy, yes. Delicious, oh my yes! I brought my wife a quartet of biscuits as an early birthday present. She was in Pine State heaven.

We wanted a simple warm breakfast and coffee and Pine State is the best for a homely meal in Portland! This location has small seating but it's not too busy at opening time. We came on a Sunday at 9AM and it was medium full of guests. We parked on the street that said two hour parking. After ordering we got a number and sat down reading the hilarious Portland Mercury newspaper found at the door and self-served a mug of Covea coffee. The soft fresh biscuits arrived with a delicious gravy sauce that was heavenly! The Reggie sandwich with fried chicken and eggs was so filling we left stuffed! It's always a good yummy meal at Pine State. Food: - Biscuit and Gravy (House Made Sausage Gravy) - The Reggie sandwich - very filling - A La carte biscuit with apple butter gives memories of fall and orange red leaves - Coffee from a local brewery

Biscuit Beignets

This was our first stop on our drive down from Seattle to the Bay Area! Great breakfast, really enjoyed the biscuit & gravy with fried chicken as well as the biscuit beignets. The gravy was not savory enough for me but the biscuit itself was really good so I ordered a plain biscuit separately and that was delicious, with a nice bite on the crust and a great soft inside. The flavor was also well-balanced, not too buttery or salty like some other biscuits I've had. Will definitely stop by on the way up to try their sandwiches and see the biscuits showcased that way as well! The biscuit beignets were super unique and I really liked the powder sugar ones (although both were great). I also normally don't like butterscotch but the butterscotch/caramel dip went pretty well with the beignets. Would definitely recommend trying these if you're nearby!

Was on my to try list, and i don't think I'd go back. The biscuits were tough and the jam was really sweet.

Great biscuits and gravy. Also had eggs, hash browns and a single blueberry pancake. Pancake was probably the best part. The 2 eggs and the hash browns are both $5 but the menu frames it in such a way where you think it's $5 for 2 eggs AND hash browns. The very nice staff behind the counter explained this to me (and like 5 other groups of people from what I could overhear). It's very small inside with mostly communal seating. They have a full bar from what I can tell. There's also another restaurant inside that serves Hawaiian food but it wasn't open yet when we were there for breakfast.

Delicious, crumbly biscuits. I ordered mine with smoked brisket, a fried egg over-medium, and pimento cheese, then tossed on some hot sauce. It was delicious.

By far one of my favorite spots for biscuits and gravy. Every time I try biscuits and gravy somewhere else, I catch myself comparing it to Pine State. Their mushroom gravy is incredibly flavorful, rich, savory, and perfectly seasoned. I could pour it over just about anything and be happy. Nothing else really hits the same way. Usually when I come for breakfast, there's a huge line out the door. Luckily, I started my morning late on Sunday and showed up about an hour before closing, no line at all, and we got our food pretty quickly. Service was fast and friendly, which made the whole experience even better.

DELICIOUS!!! Placed an online order and the overall process was nice and smooth. Everything came as ordered as well. I got the Reggie with Nashville hot chicken and it was a 10/10. Not too try and the spice level was perfect for me. The portion is good and the chicken was nice and big too. I also got the fried Mac & cheese which was heavenly - definitely day dreaming about it. My fiance loved his Reggie as well with extra Texas Pete on the side. Overall, highly recommend and I can see the hype!

Wanted to go here for a very long time. I've heard about it as being a Portland staple and I just had never got around to going there. It was different then I imagined. Not in a bad way, just different. I didn't expect it to be counter service (meaning you order at the counter) and I didn't expect it ti be a seat yourself place. I also heard wait times were bad for seating and getting your food but we ordered, found a seat and got our food rather quickly. Service was great, friendly and prompt. I got the Reggie Deluxe. The gravy was amazing (I got the mushroom one) and so was the biscuit (Soft buttery and delicious) the cheese and bacon also complimented it all. The chicken in the sandwich was fine. It was a little dry but not terrible. Everything else made up for it. My kid got a biscuit two eggs and a snickerdoodle. Unfortunately he did not like his food much. He ate about half the biscuit a bite of eggs and a bite of the cookie. He thought the cookie was flavorless. I tried it, I thought it was okay not great. Overall I thought it was really good. I definitely would come back, probably would get the biscuits and gravy. With that said I probably would not bring my son again. This place isn't ultra kid friendly if your kid is remotely picky, just meaning there is no kid menu and I kind of had to piece together what he might like. It's more of the kind of spot you meet a friend or date for breakfast or brunch. The area is also kind of small so I you might plan to sit outside or just get your food to go especially if you have 3 or more people in your party.

I LOVE a good biscuit and they can be harder to find than you might think - unless you live near a Pine State location that is! On my last trip to Portland I tried one of their crazy stacked biscuit sandwiches which was good, but nothing beats their biscuits and gravy except maybe adding a fried egg on top. When I tell you I INHALED the whole thing at like 9 in the morning and was full all day! I also lucked out and got the last of their freshly made seasonal poptarts which made for a nice treat when I was finally hungry again. Can't recommend this place enough!

First off, what a stylish, refined-yet-casual atmosphere. Love the layout of the restaurant; it was bright and spacious. They have a variety of tables and booths for various party sizes, plus outdoor dining! All the staff were smiling, kind, and friendly! Our food and drinks came out very quickly. We ordered a good share of items since we wanted to try a variety of things! From the happy hour menu, we got the Boudin Balls and Romaine Wedge Salad. From their dinner menu, we ordered the Virginia Ham Deviled Eggs (upgraded), Local Fried Green Tomatoes, Yellow Grits, Crawfish Etouffee, and Chicken and Waffles Two Pieces. It was my first time trying most of these things. My favorite app was the fried green tomatoes; they weren't wet, were nicely breaded, and were well seasoned. All the fried items were perfectly fried! The eggs, since we upgraded to trout roe, were very salty. The boudin balls were dense, savory, and meaty--not my personal favorite. I enjoyed trying the grits, but my favorite was the crawfish! It was sweet and savory, the sauce was a good consistency, and the portion was generous. The chicken and waffles were fabulous--I can see why they're popular! I don't normally eat this, but it was the perfect mix of savory and sweet; I loved the sweet potato too! Screen Door is a popular spot in Portland, and I can see why! It's a must-visit for visitors and tourists. You'll find it in the Pearl District, off Couch Street.

They've certainly topped the muscle game. Highly recommend Olympic Provisions. I will gladly vouch that the negative reviews are from the haters, just to hate. Foie gras dumplings were also memorable but I don't necessarily need to get it again. The arugula salad was refreshing although I'd ask to have it accompany the duck stacks next time to have a refreshing side. I love fish so I expected to love the chicken fried trout but it was just alright compared to the other dishes. The Paris brest was excellent. Giving a 2-star because of a mixed experience. Hopefully my review can help anyone who comes here…read morehave a better experience than we did. First, I'll start with the positive: Tacos de Pescado were quite good, and perhaps the only thing worth coming for here. They were seasoned very nicely and had great texture and appearance. Absolutely the highlight here. The only thing that could have improved them was just a bit of sweetness in the chipotle mayo, since the sauce was a little bit unbalanced. But they were still very tasty. However, there were a couple things that we experienced that really ruined our visit: (1) Price gouging/stinginess (2) The bitchy hostess I totally get the 2026 times that we're in and that places need to operate on tighter budgets. You want me to seat myself when times are busy? Sure. Go up to the bar to order? Alright. Refill my own water? Meh, not a big deal. But there is a way to do those things without treating customers like pests. We showed up shortly after 3pm and this place was COMPLETELY empty, other than the hostess and bartender. We saw the sign that said to seat ourselves, so we did. Hostess came over and just told us to look over the menus and go to the bar when we're ready to order. I tried to ask her for any recommendations, but her body language clearly said she just wanted to walk away. Then she just went over to the bar, and chatted with coworkers. Then one other couple showed up and I watched the same thing happen -- she just kept looking for the first opportunity to step away and go back to doing nothing. Fine, I am capable of having a good time without her, except the menu was sort of confusing about pricing for their signature "machete" quesadillas; they allow you to order a build-your-own with up to 4 different fillings, but the menu has a weird diagram showing the quesadilla spilt into 4 pieces, and each additional filling had another $4 charge to the order. I called her over to ask if the additional fillings were added to the whole machete, or just a portion of it. She said that any fillings you order are basically substitutions, and will be added IN PLACE of existing fillings. I clarified "So the amount of food is the same, and you're just charging extra for me to choose a different filling?" She confirmed yes. "So why do you guys offer a build-your-own option and then charge 2x-4x more for the same amount of food?" She got a bitchy attitude and just said "I don't know, that's just the way the chef does it," and walked away. So I just ordered a machete that was 1/2 chorizo and 1/2 steak. It makes zero sense to me that I would be charged less to order a steak machete instead of steak on one half and chicken or pork on the other half. It's the exact same amount of food. It's not like they let you combine fillings together or anything -- they literally just cut the machete into different sections and give you one filling. By the way, turns out the machete was 100% not worth ordering anyway, which is disappointing considering that this is their signature dish here. The tortillas were dry and bland, the cheese was rubbery, and the fillings were mushy and totally underwhelming. Clearly just some giant batch of meats made a couple days ago that get reheated to order, so again, not sure why they're so weird about the price-gouging. Even funnier, the menu even says that the fillings are "generous." What a scam. But then things got even worse. When the hostess brought my machete, I noticed that there was literally just one tiny dot of crema on the plate, and there was a red sauce and green sauce in the tiniest, half-filled cups. I immediately brought to her attention that there was no cup for the crema, and asked her if I could please get one. She told me I already had some on the plate, and pointed to the dot. I asked if I could please get more than the "dot," and she promptly informed me she would need to add more charges to my meal if I wanted any more sauces. Just absolutely unbelievable stinginess. Her attitude and the price-gouging completely ruined my experience. And what's worse, is the machete isn't even worth its namesake. Those fish tacos are the only thing worth getting. I hope this helps anyone planning to come here. My recommendation would be to skip this place entirely, but if you insist on coming, just get the tacos, skip the machete, and be prepared for price-gouging.

If you're a hot sauce person get some and add that! The side of cheesy hashbrowns were delicious and perfect for a cool day - cozy and warm. Our friend got the chicken biscuits and gravy and ate every single bite. He said the chicken was moist and well seasoned. Finally, the lemon blueberry French toast was delicious.
