On two different occasions I have pulled up to this store at 6pm. They could see my car in front of the door 1st time 5:59 2nd time 600 pm Yes you close at six, but when I am greeted at the door at 6pm and the second time 601 and you say your registers are closed out! Do you want our business or not? Suggestion: is there something quick you need? The other store on tower road is best for customer service. Both stores in general are very expensive you can by supplies esp filters and parts for half price online. read more

Watch out for the crazy high, price gouging on some items. I bought a new o-ring for my filter cartridge for ~$55. I found the same (exactly the same) item on Amazon for $8 + $4.50 shipping. I'm totally cool with paying a couple bucks more but greater than 5X is crazy. Lesson learned however, I ordered my $299 at Pinch a Penny filter on Amazon for $170! read more

We were a customer for over 10 years. Was 2 weeks late on payment so my husband stopped by the main store to pay. The owner was so rude. she basically said if we're going to be late on payments we should take our business elsewhere. Didn't make sense why she reacted so aggressively. Oh well it's her loss. We are now looking for a new pool company. read more

Updated review. This place marks up at least 50 percent on items. Pool filters, pool cleaner parts, you name it! Do your research! You can get it cheaper on amazon and you know they are making profit. My large pool filter 150 in store. Same one amazon or online 85.00 just replaced parts to cleaner way cheaper. I really like the customer service here. Boyfriend has a pool. I moved in, so now I have a pool. I don't know anything about pools. And to be honest, I don't really want to know. These very nice people let me continue to live in blissful ignorance. I bring them containers and they fill them up with chlorine. The first few times I went (yes, I've done this many times. You should have seen the pool when we started) I didn't know what it was. Seriously, I park and, as I am opening the back of the Jeep, someone shows up to carry the containers away. Then I go to the register and pay. Then I go back to my Jeep and someone is waiting to load the Jeep up. That's so nice. Sometimes Boyfriend says words at me and I go there and repeat the words. Then I get whatever they hand me and bring it home. Having a pool is so easy! read more

Very knowledegable and helpful staff and owners. These people have trouble shooted my pool so many times, and always came out with the right fix at a good price. Besides where else can you get your water tested with test tubes and titration? (much more accurate and telling than strips or a do-it-all machine) read more

I feel like a big dork writing a review for a damn pool supply store. But since I spend about half my life here, it seems only appropriate. I also feel guilty for shopping corporate, but I haven't found a good independent pool supply shop that has what I need. And now I'm sucked in to the P-A-P world. Anyhow, I recently encountered a big problem with a stain all over my pool. When it went awry after fixing it with Pinch A Penny's products, I was pretty pissed. I wrote to corporate HQ, and they were quick to resolve it with the local store I shop at, and the folks there are working with my to fix the problem at no further cost to me. That's gool ole fashioned great customer service. Cheers for that. The staff is all pretty knowledgable, very helpful, nice and fun. Prices are high on many products, but for the basic pool maintenance stuff they are actually better prices than elsewhere. read more

I had an unsettling experience. My 89 year old mother wanted to buy a hot tub from a local business. We started the process. Now my mom doesn't hear well, and she may not of heard correctly things correctly. I went in and started with, "I think there's been some miscommunication" hoping to resolve the situation. She took the paperwork my mom had brought in, and proceeded to point to the places where we had not completed the tax exemption form correctly, and said that she had told my mother 14 times that we needed a certified check or there would be a 14 day hold on the check. I hadn't accused the business of any wrongdoing, just that that there had been miscommunication. So I said that they had just lost a sale and started to walk out. She followed me still stating how we had gotten everything wrong. I tried to tell her that her tone and body language was indicating to me that she didn't want to work it out. She became a bit snarky and asked how should she stand and talk? She finally said, when I was at the door, "Well, how can I help?" I told her that was where she should have started. I don't believe the customer is always right, and granted my mom and aunt both could have gotten things wrong, but that's expected. People get things wrong. All the owner needed to do was say "I'm sorry we didn't make the information as clear. We're sorry for the inconvenience." All would have been well. read more

This Pinch A Penny's manager(s) would not call me back to discuss a problem I had with Nick, the person who came out weekly to clean and maintain my pool.I called many times but over a three week period they were never available to speak to me, their customer of many years. Today I hired a new pool company and they tested the water and checked out the system. They found that the calcium level in my pool was very low, which contributes to erosion of the pool surface. They also found that Pinch a Penny Nick had not been putting D.E. powder in my DE pool filter for a long time. Also an O ring on a piece of equipment needed replacing as it was causing unwanted air bubbles. I would not have known these things if the new pool company hadn't come today and checked it out. Before posting this review I called the managers, Kristine and Michael Moureau of the Pinch a Penny store # 33 again, they were not available to come to the phone.....again . read more

The pool cleaner did not work. I called within a few days and was told that it was because my pool was dirty and to wait a few days. I did have some algae in the pool and I was charged an extra $100.00 for extra help in getting the pool in shape. The extra help never came. Meanwhile the weekly service started. The young man spent about 5 minutes on our pool and then ran off before we had a chance to talk to him. Same the next week. So I went to the store and told them that the pool cleaner still was not working and that the person was rude and did not perform as per the original agreement. He came out from the back of the store and proceeded to shame me for owning the type of pool that I have (it came with the house). He then tried to humiliate me by pointing out that the pool cleaner I bought was a poor choice and would not work with my setup. When I told him it was recommended by his boss (the owner's son-in-law), he stammered and tried to back pedal. Over the next few days I spent hours cleaning the pool in hopes that the pool cleaner would work on a clean pool. It did not and I took it back for a refund. I was charged a 20% restocking fee and told I could not have the $100.00 back that I paid for extra help in cleaning the algae. Finally later that day the owner called. She was arrogant, condescending, and argumentative to the point that I finally just hung up the phone. Although I did get a partial refund, I am still out about $200.00. read more

This review is for the pool service. John came by to service my pool on 7/14/16 at 1:30 in the afternoon. Among the tasks that he supposedly did was "Backwash/Clean Filter". This was clearly not actually performed. When the performance of my Kreepy Krawley was reduced to being completely ineffective, I decided to take a look at the filter. It was filthy and clogged with crud. After I cleaned out the filter the pump was able to get suction and begin cleaning my pool again. It is obvious that the filter had not been cleaned in many months. I can say with 100% certainty that this service was NOT done on 7/14 as John said it was. I have no confidence that any of the other services that he claims to have done were actually performed. Given the error messages that my Intellichlor I20 is giving me, I can also safely assume that this was not looked at as claimed. The power light clearly indicates that the unit needs service, yet the note left at my door indicates that all is well. Where to start....we used their pool cleaning service for approximately 1 year and our pool was consistently green and unswimable. This was a weekly issue. Complaints got me nowhere. We also had the monthly bill automatically withdrawn from our bank account and began to notice that we were being overcharged. Apparently they decided to raise the prices (we had a contract for a certain amount) and began pulling more money out of our account without our consent. The owner (a snippy women with a condescending attitude) was rude to my wife and I for having the audacity to complain because we "had trees" on our lawn. Incompetent and unspeakably poor customer service. STAY AWAY!!! read more

I had one of their service guys come out to help with my pool; pump was not functioning properly and pool sweep only doing 1/2 of the pool. Guy replaced a panel, changed some settings, and didn't address the pool sweep. My pump issue was not resolved and pool continued to be green. Called out Fun State Pools- guys came out and immediately realized the pump wasn't working b/c it was clogged, and the sweep not working b/c wheel bearings were broken. They fixed it the same day and now my pool is instantly back to low-maintenance. I wonder if that panel even needed to be replaced or I just got charged for nothing b/c it didn't do anything to solve my problem. Would highly NOT recommend using Pinch A Penny's pool service!!! read more
