I loved the outside of the cafe with all the fire pits, water fountain, and large courtyard. The inside of the cafe was spacious, with a cute little book section in the corner. Very modern and clean area. I got a coffee mocha with their house made chocolate ganache. It had a wonderful flavor of chocolate and coffee without being too sweet or bitter. I loved it so much! Among the breakfast items I've had the breakfast sandwich, breakfast burrito, avocado toast, tater tots, and the raspberry brioche donut. The breakfast sandwich is my favorite. It's bacon, egg, cheddar cheese in a brioche bun and with some amazing pesto mayo with it. It is served with salad and balsamic vinaigrette. YUM! I order tater tots to share with my husband as well. When it comes to dinner, I've had the carnitas quesadilla, the turkey club, fries, and the big burger. The burger is surprisingly big and not to mention delicious. It is served with your choice of chips or a salad. I order fries on the side to share. Out of their array of pastries by favorite by far is the raspberry brioche donut. OH MY GOD ITS AMAZING. it is a creme filled donut, but the creme inside isn't overly sweet and rich. It is JUST RIGHT. Extremely flavorful. I've had nothing like it. My boyfriend and I came here the Saturday of thanksgiving weekend. We walked in around 12 pm and it was EMPTY. There were only two other people in the cafe and the cafe was bigger than most cafes/ coffee shops. Atmosphere: 5/5 This place is sooooo cute and spacious. There are plenty of tables, chairs, and couches. There's also a seating area outside with a fireplace. There are a good amount of outlets. The lighting is nice as there is a lot of natural light coming in. There's also a cafe/ kitchen and a little bookstore area. We got a small cold brew and the portabella mushroom wrap. The cold brew was good! I don't think I've ever had a bad cold brew though, so I can't say much about it. Pillars is a nice cafe with a lovely outdoor space. I used to come every week before the pandemic and the food was decent enough for me to keep coming back to meet friends. I've been twice in the last two months and have been extremely disappointed with the food and apathetic employees. Also the food prices have gone up significantly (but that's everywhere now). On my recent visit I got the chia pudding cup with granola and fruit. It didn't taste the same and the strawberries tasted like onion. I suspect they used the same knife for all their prep without any concern for flavor transfer. I also ordered a breakfast sandwich and it was okay definitely not worth $7.50. I'm disappointed. I hope my negative review will be taken as constructive criticism because I really like the space. read more

I've been here twice now for an oat milk latte and I know that it will not be my last time visiting this space. There is ample seating and even though I am not particularly religious and was honestly reluctant about coming for that reason this space is actually very welcoming. There is outdoor seating with fire pits perfect for summer nights, a large grassy area, and tons of tables inside. I had my second time around a strawberry cheesecake danish (I think that's what it was called) and it was very good too. But overall I will definitely come back for their oat milk lattes. They use Bodhi Leaf espresso, which I had never heard of before but it's very smooth. Definitely coming back! read more

I have visited Pillars several times. 1) I found that the staff that takes the orders, esp. manager, was very unfriendly and seemingly irritated and unaccommodating. I thought, at first, perhaps the manager was having a bad day, however after repeated visits- I found that was not the case. 2) It's expensive--drinks are much higher than Starbucks across the street. 3) The selections of food offered are common and unhealthy. They offer the typical high fat high sugar muffins, croissants, cookies, etc., that you would find at most discount grocery stores. Thus, Pillars would do well to update their food selection as with many other coffee shops and cafes such as Starbucks and Coffee Bean --who offer alternative low sugar gluten-free selections and low fat sandwiches and other low fat snacks. Pillars is very antedated in this area. 4) I did enjoy the oat milk café latte, though,- but not at the high price tag. Overall - Pillars is convenient for those who attend the church, but it's a typical coffee shop which unfortunately does not seem to be too concerned with good nutrition. I would think being a part of the church they would have a higher standard on people's health. Hence, I give them a low grade on customer service, a non- healthy selection of food, and high price. A good friend recommend me this cafe so my boyfriend and I decided to stop in and were pleasantly surprised. Extremely clean and full of life. There were a decent amount of people but the line went smoothly. I ordered a veggie omelet and my boyfriend the Huevos rancheros. He finished the plate within minutes. I myself have recently stopped eating meat and found it difficult to find veggie options that were actually flavorful and it was soooooo tasty! I also didn't know it was a church. This cafe is so sweet and uplifting. The food is great! The staff is sweet and accommodating... but the atmosphere is just so amazing. I don't care what attitude you come in with, it's almost impossible to leave unhappy! You can feel Gods presents here.. you can feel the happy uplighting vibes... take it all in. Relax in the big oversized chairs or one of their many couches. During the week there are several people on their lab tops doing work or school but it's not an over quite atmosphere. I Home school and still feel comfortable being my kids in here to enjoy a lunch and using one of their huge table to spread out and plug in the laptops. Lots of ac plugs, a lot of chairs, nice clean bathrooms, clean well stocked restaurant and a fun soda machine. They have a play structure outside for the kids to get energy out if they become too loud or energetic. Also a lot of comfortable outside seating. They also have a small bible store on the side that has amazing fun bible and books for the family. read more

I'm always excited when a new place to get coffee arrives on the scene. This cafe has only been around for a few days so you could say they are still in soft open mode, but signs are encouraging. I haven't tried their coffee or food yet so this is more of a first impression then a full review. First off, the location is serene inside and out with beautiful hardscaping. There is plenty of seating, a comfortable couch area, fire pits outside, etc. You have to see it to believe it. Here is the description from their website: "Pillars Cafe is now open! Stop by our new community coffee house that offers specialty coffees and teas, gourmet food and pastries. You'll experience a relaxing atmosphere that may become your favorite Porter Ranch hotspot. Free Wi-Fi is available!" Here's some info for the coffee nerds like myself. Pillars' coffee is sourced from Copa Vida in Pasadena. They use Nuova Simonelli espresso machines and grinders. I also spotted Mazzer and Mahlkonig grinders. They offer espresso, macchiatos, lattes, cappucinos, batch brew, and an almond milk option. It doesn't look like they have ice blended or pour over options right now. One last tip. This cafe is a part of a church (full disclosure, I'm a member, so totally biased), that big building that's been going up on Rinaldi for the last couple of years if you live in the area. The cafe is on the left side of that building (or the northeast corner). It will get crowded on the weekends, so you may want to check their website www.theshepherd.org so you don't schedule your first visit when they are having service. read more

Very nice newly built cafe very roomy and relaxing while sipping on coffee and their pastries before service starts. My family come an hour early before service so we can get a good parking spot close to the sanctuary and enjoy this simple pleasure. Scriptures in walls are all around the cafe which adds a nice touch to the theme of the church "lift up Jesus so the world may believe" outside the cafe there's a lounge patio with a fire pit which is also enjoyable to sit and relax if u prefer the outdoors. The cafe has a good variety of drinks, pastries, and snacks, staff is pleasant and courteous, my only wish is that this cafe is open 7days a week better alternative to Starbucks across the street read more

So a coffee shop here is like a dream come true - I have had some of the pre-made food options (wraps/sandwich/etc) and they have always been pretty good. I would say that they are still working out some of the kinks of just opening. The hours are limited, which is a bit of drag, I have been by twice when it wasn't open. I think the hours are 7am to 3pm - so keep that mind. I think once they extend the hours to accommodate normal working people, this place will be a hit. The ambiance is really cool and with tons of contemporary seating options and an outdoor area which i can foresee getting a ton of usage once it get's a bit warmer outside. My favorite coffee house. The food in incredible, too. For breakfast I love the huevos rancheros with their excellent salsa or any of their pastries in the display case. For lunch, you can't go wrong with all their offerings. I've been enjoying the beef taquitos lately. I like to come here and work on stuff when I'm bored of being at home. It's quiet and not too busy during the week. During the service times on weekends it can get pretty loud. I do enjoy this most as a weekday retreat or lunch spot with friends.
