Cute little a lot, quiet with a decent amount of space to sit and study with outlets. They have cute religious books to buy as well but no pastries. Came here on a Sunday and found out their hours isn't open all the way u til 7, bc they take a break between 2-4 and resume from 4-7 js fyi if you plan on trying to stay there all day. Which they should change on here bc I was misled and had to find another place to study for the remainder of the day. They also are not open during mass hours. Coffee shop, no one knows about... so much free space!!!! My usual places to study have been packed lately and I need a breath of something fresh and new. It's clean and spacious with plenty of tables and there's even a community bar. There's some spots reserved to park in the parking lot and residential parking. It looks like a house, so don't miss it. Its behind a white gate, it's ok... you'll see COMMON GROUND etched into the glass doors. This is a cute little coffee shop that is next to a church. Finding this place was quite challenging at first as I had to call the place for direction where to park and asking a random person coming out of the church to point me to where the coffee shop was located at. Besides the location, the place is actually very cozy and homey feel to it - which I love! The barista/cashier was super friendly and walked me through the menu and gave me a few recommendations. The latte I got was pretty good - nothing special about it though! This place seems like a nice place to study BEFORE 2:30 pm when they kids get out of school LOL Overall I had a pleasant time at Common Grounds. I came here with excitement that I finally found some very cute alternative to Starbucks and Coffee Bean. But my first experience here was disappointing. I specifically asked batista to make EXTRA DRY cappuccino. He even asked, no milk? I confirmed, no milk. Guess what he made just in 3 minutes. A full-on cappuccino with milk to the edge of cup. Just an adorable coffee shop that is jointed with the local church. Great selection of food and coffee plus tea! While some may be jittered from the church being part of it, it's very homely inside. Gentle music playing and a clean atmosphere. The waitress is very kind and explained the area to me as well as the menu. She even offered to serve us our own condiments which we politely declined. The best cup of Chamomile tea I've ever had! However... If you like honey in your drink, make sure you add it yourself, or have them stir it really well before serving it to you. Last Sunday morning I got to church early and ordered a nice hot cup of this deliciousness and asked for 4 honeys to be added. Unbeknownst to me, the nice young fella didn't stir it. This was the beginning of many sorrows. It was during Sunday School that the last gulp of this delicious tea, I found where most of the honey was hiding- at the bottom of my cup. It went down my gullet like lava and I began to gag. My wife (who usually does the Heimlich Maneuver during such matters) was at the Ladies Bible Study and my daughter (who usually laughs herself into a frenzy during such matters) was with her. I had no one to rescue me- and I was 30 minutes into one of the best sermons I've ever heard. Plus... I'm new to Faith Baptist Church. I didn't want anyone thinking I had a tea drinking problem, which by now, was going into full swing. I remembered what my old pastor once told me. He said, "Brad... if you're not praising, you're panicking." It's hard to praise when there's a molten glob of honey slowly closing off my windpipe and and all hope of a full inhale of air was now gone. I bet he never thought about that. To make matters worse, the tea bag which had somehow ripped open left a trail of Chamomile leaves from my teeth to my tonsils and parked themselves in my esophagus. This was a five alarm, DEFCON mode episode and there was no way out of this meltdown anytime soon. As thoughts of me giving up my ghost raced through my mind, I began to think if I had any unconfessed sin (just in case) but it's hard to think when you're gasping for air and praying for your next breath. I'm pretty sure Pastor thought his message was hitting home when he saw me with tears streaming down my rosy-red, and by now- swollen face. Thinking this might be the end of me, I wanted one last sip of the greatest tea I've ever tasted as the last thing I was able to do on earth before my trip to Paradise! Somebody with a gift of discernment must've been praying next to me because my final sip actually forced the leaves of Chamomile to scrape the residual stubborn honey down my throat- which also cleared my airway and I was able to breathe and more importantly, able to praise! Even the Usher who was side-staring at me must've thought I was one of those Bapticostals had a look of relief on his face. read more

Beautiful little hidden gem coffee shop! A coffee shop, homemade baked goods and bookstore! It's so cozy and has space to work includes WiFi! I would definitely make the drive from Northridge to come here to de-stress over a delicious cup of joe or tea! You have to enter on the side street not off of Saticoy. Don't be thrown off because it's connected to a church, I was actually happy to find that out. Even though I'm a Christian and active in our church I didn't know this was connected to the church. I came here twice when I was on the premises. It is part of a Church, which is why I love it all the more! They have plenty of seating that's indoors and outdoors. The place is super clean. Let me start by saying I had high hopes. I am a bit of a coffee snob. This shop/bookstore was adorable and I do enjoy groundwork's coffee. I ordered a pour over but asked what my options were and the barista and cashier had no idea what I was asking and told me it was whole bean coffee which I already knew. I ordered a large light roast as this is what I normally drink. My coffee tasted pretty watered down which is uncommon for a pour over. If you like sweet drinks I'm sure they are fantastic. They are not consistent with their drinks. Some drinks would have chocolate chips, and others would not. The Oreo creams would also take exceptionally long to make. They do not move quickly at all when making the drinks. They also never ask me for my punch card. Furthermore, I happened to see one of the workers drop a towel and pick it back up, and then wipe a drink. The counters seemed to often have drips from the drinks and were not clean. The lady named Jennifer was very slow, indifferent, and not welcoming. She was on her phone when I walked in as well. Finally stopped by here, looking for a Non Starbucks shop. I got the chai tea, was great. Not too sweet or bland. I might say perfect! But and the but is a deal breaker for me, the noise level and amount of teens that were jumping around in there was enough to not bother going back. I saw a guy on the far end by the fireplace trying to study and just picking up his head to glance at the 10 or so kids, 2 employees there never bothered to address them. I understand it's part of the church but then don't open it up for the public or be a business and run it like one making it a welcoming place for the public. It claims coffee shop and bookstore but I couldn't even hear the employee repeat my order so who can actually even read here? If I had at least seen an attempt to address the noise level and jumping around I'd try it again, but it's more of a cafeteria than a coffee shop. My children attend a school nearby and I enjoy swinging by Common Ground after I drop the kids off to get my morning started! Their drink selection is fantastic and while classic, they are always adding new items as the seasons change. This is also a phenomenal place to bring your laptop to work or study (free wifi!) as they have ample indoor seating as well as a great covered patio. The staff is friendly and chatty, and always eager to receive our feedback. I have made my way through most of their menu (even their Ice Blended Cotton Candy Creams!) and can't wait to try the rest.
