Strolled by and had to go in. Large shop filled with soooooo much merch. The okatu in us wanted to check it out. Good crowd, good selections and busy staff. We were flipping through their collection of collectibles trading card games as we had gotten into One Piece trading card. Saw lots of Pokemon cards and more (in both original Japanese and English verison)version. They had a small selection of the One Piece (it's still new enough that they don't open large selection of open singular cards for sale compare to Pokemon). Everything looks great and I wished I had a larger wallet to buy. But we were mostly window shopping unless we can find something to tempt us to spend our budget on this vacation.

This store has a lot of second hand Japanese products ranging from exclusive figurines to accessories, music, games, and small accessories. This branch of Book Off has plenty of variety and is well stocked with lots of cool and uncommon items for sale. Location does get a lot of foot traffic but the store is pretty large enough to accommodate. The general mood here is very cheery and bright among visitors who are browsing for their next treat.

I am a little biased because I do prefer my Bookoffs to have more BOOKS.... this Bookoff is good though if you enjoy sifting through piles and piles of anime merch. There are some nice finds, though IMO the prices could be cheaper. The few manga I was interested in were nearly full price for used books!

Lots of anime characters that I have NO idea where they are from.

I came here last week and was impressed with the range of anime characters, figurines, retro games, and Manga books. My son bought a Deathnote Manga #3 but in the limited edition black pages for $17. My daughter bought a Demon Slayer picture for only $3. I read from some reviews that the store was stocked and put together haphazardly. Like some anime series were out of order. I honestly don't know nearly enough to notice things like that. Another complaint was that the staff were just going through the motions and were not knowledgeable about their store. I didn't catch that either. Overall, its a cute store. I can see myself coming back here.

Aight I gotta pull out this cringe pre-face every time I review an anime event or shop, but I've run panels related to anime must stops in SoCal, been to cons as press, industry guest, cosplayer etc for 15 years and am an avid merchandise collector and you would THINK a Bookoff solely focused on anime goods would be based, but honestly, it was just alright. I think the nature of a Bookoff being in Little Tokyo has it be mined completely for the rarer more interesting anime goods and if you want to think of the anime "fast fashion" ecosystem, this Bookoff is a PRIME example. With anime becoming more accessible and therefore mainstream (cringe!), we're seeing A LOT of goods from recently aired or bigger anime series here, generally in massive bulk (think JJK, Demon Slayer, etc.). So why the lower score? Aside from the merch just being ok, I have NO IDEA who is pricing some of these goods. An Arknights, SECONDHAND doctor nendoroid for $80 when a brand new one is cheaper?! Also a lot of the prize figures are priced way above MSRP for what you would typically find online, at a con, or at an anime shop that sells them new and still in the box (I'm sure you can find the same anime prize fig here at Jungle or Sakura Anime at a lower cost). And these are prize figures that ARE STILL IN PRODUCTION too. Additionally there's no real attempt at organization, just like every other Bookoff, so get ready to camp here and rifle through the items. We did happen to find some nice small things, but nothing THAT amazing. The thing that really rubbed me the wrong way was the little card sets they had packed for $3. The front card was a Fate Apo card of Astolfo and the card on the back side showed FGO Babylonia Ishtar, so you would assume that the cards in the middle would also be Fate right? Obviously the person who put it together knew that at least the front and bottom showing characters were from the same franchise right? WRONG. I was so pissed when I opened it and it was normie AoT and Re:Zero stuff. Fine to stop by and sift through but no real high expectations here.

    The one I bought

Bad attitude, the lady at the front desk just PUT my figure in the pack NOT even pack it for me, I mean yes I do know this figure come without a box I understand that, but you just put it IN my package??? What if it made second unnecessary break? Ok, and I ask politely for a plastic bag just so I can pack my figure, she throw the bag to me and turn around start talking to her workmate, she let me to pack by myself, ok it's fine, so I pack by myself, and you know I need to use the tape for tape it don't won't fall out, she throw that thing again, dude I am so piss off

Lots of little knick -knacks where you can explore and look though. If you're a Japanese anime lover or toy explorer, this may be a place to find some of your old favorites. They got book, anime figurines, pins, toys, plushee, pokemon/ yugioh cards, action figures, old video games/systems. Staff was nice also, just ask and they'll assist you. You might spend hours just looking in one area cause of the selections they have of a particular item. There's lots to see. You just have to look though and maybe find something from your childhood. Great time to spend on a weekend and explore

Great selection but staff was snobby, cashier (Alejandro) was too occupied to give us a nice experience and ruined the experience.

The emphasis, though, is primarily new and recent comics. Passing through on a rainy afternoon I was pleased to find its location is near a few important stops in Pasadena, and there's some parking available in the private lot. I was mostly there to check out the selection and see if they specialized in anything unique. Not to say they don't, but it's still a well-stocked store. I was the only customer and enjoyed the classic jazz playing in the background. Pro Tip: Most established comic shops have subscription plans paid annually, or one-time up front. A customer goes through Comic Book Geek to pick their titles and sometimes preferred cover art, and the shop pulls their requests and holds them until the customer picks up the stash.

Now, they were all no Stewart comic book store but out of all of the ones in the area, this was the best by far. Chill vibes, plenty of comics, easy access, and easy to purchase at the end. Only critiques I would give it would be to have a little more for the other collectors. And what I mean by that, have a couple more action figures, Funko, pops, etc. that will probably bring in some more people for sure. The other thing would bethe music playing in the speakers. Didn't care too much for the rock, but still all in all, nice place to go. There's plenty of parking and easy to find.

Even when I'm not looking to buy anything, it's still worth coming just to explore. The place is unlike anything else. It's also a perfect spot for anyone creating content for a social media travel page. Upstairs you'll find an art gallery and several other shops, while downstairs has old vinyl records and CDs. If you love that classic old bookstore smell, this place has it in full. Personally it's not my favorite, but definitely worth noting for those who do. The main downsides are parking and crowds. Finding a spot by car can be a challenge, and the store draws a good number of tourists so it can get pretty packed. If you're not a fan of crowds, just keep that in mind before you go.

The staff is beyond friendly and, even though this location is small, it has a fantastic array of comics and other collectables. Even with my pull list at their other location, I always find something I have to pick up on my quick visit. They also have fantastic signings here throughout the year so there's a good chance that you can meet either one of your favorite writers or be introduced to your next obsession. My only complaint isn't even their fault & it's the parking. Like most of this area of NoHo, it's all limited street parking with meters or you're going to have to cross your fingers that you can find something in the residential streets in the area. But honestly, it's worth it. If you live in the area and are looking for your new favorite neighborhood shop, this is it.

This is difficult for me. I have been a customer for the past 3 years. Since I moved to LA…read more Everyone I've met there that works there is the best. From Jun to their former manager Zachary to every single employee there. They were so nice to my wife when she was picking up my comic books while I had severely broken my finger. So, the issue. I'll start with the 30 year anniversary contest or whatever that was, of which I won. I was the "Most Valuable Customer", meaning I spent the most in a month long period basically. I won 30% off of any 1 item in the store for a year each month. I used that discount on more expensive items. I even talked to some of the staff about being excited to afford some of the more exciting items. Remember, this is 12 things in a calendar year. I used the discount on Omnibuses, Statues, that sort. One of the more exciting things I used the discount on was the first appearance of Big Barda. The owner's manager at the time reached out to ownership to confirm that he could sell me this comic book which is in a glass case behind lock and key. The owner confirmed that it was 30% off of everything that was in the store. In the store being the conceit. I actually used their website to order a $100 Batman hush figurine. I was told later that we won't be able to honor the 30% off on items ordered to the store. Which I agreed, made total sense. I then used the discount on a graded, signed Jim Lee Hush 2 comic. Shortly thereafter, I was told that the discount did not apply to items in the glass case. Understood, maybe there was some miscommunication. So I turned back to statues, artwork, and cool older comics up toward their like backlog section of the store. I used the discount on the Wolverine 1-5 collection they were selling. This was the original Wolverine comic book. I even bought one of their orange display cases, knowing it would look really awesome there. After this, I tried to purchase another book from that section but I was told that those were no longer a part of the 30% off. Now it was books and weeklies. Okay, so at this point it was near the end of the yearlong 30% off and like whatever. Owner is being weird for some reason, I'll just back off. It's no big deal. More recently, the store has been having a lot of turnover. Which sucks for them, but also isn't that somewhat on the person who hired this new manager. While they were there I had used the website--mind you -- like I had for the past 2 years+ since their new system had been created. During this time numerous comic books that I had ordered on the website just weren't in my pull list come wednesday, which was mostly around when I broke my finger in January It happened again. And again. And again. I was getting every single book I had ordered on the website in the past. The books I ordered, if I didn't receive them on the week I ordered them, they often times would never come. Early on in the process, their former manager showed me how to order on the website. Make sure orders were in on Friday to get them on Wednesday, this became difficult when I broke my finger, but I did my best. Now a few weeks ago, the owner was there and I politely asked when the books I ordered a month+ ago might be coming in. He then blamed me "You're always the last one to make an order, so if its a variant it's not gonna be easy." Okay. Fair enough. He then said he'd ordered them, they never showed up and the new manager he hired was kind enough to track them down and get me a copy. He fired that guy. For the 2nd time in a month he complained to me that I don't get my orders in on time. Even though I'd become more strict about Friday orders. He said I needed to use their Pre-order tab to ensure that I get a copy because "if 4 people order a specific book and I only have 3 then you won't get one" I have 2 kids and it's really hard to be checking the website all the time. Doing it on Fridays had always worked with my schedule So their website is not a preorder website, it sounds like your reserving books. Which if that's the case, then just change the verbiage on your website. I don't think that's the issue. The owner is either a rude, weird guy or he lies. He put me through the runaround during the 30% off thing and then he gaslit me into thinking Id done something wrong in their system. Which if it was the case, why not just tell me from the beginning. Why keep telling me the books were coming when they never were. It seems like the owner is incapable of taking any responsibility and just wants to pass blame onto whomever will take it from him. I recommend going to this store when he is not there. Because everyone is awesome and he needs to take a long look in the mirror because he is so clearly to blame for their recent troubles. I will not be returning to Collectors Paradise NoHo. I'll miss you guys, but I don't deserve to be treated like an idiot.
