I stopped by this CSUN Campus store when I was at CSUN meeting people. This is the first week that CSUN spring semester began and there was not that many people in the store during the afternoon. The store looks great and how they did the layout works for them. I used to work at this bookstore when I first started college here. They made some changes to how they place the books and have a better help desk now. The checkout line is still the same and their little tech center hasn't changed much. The prices will vary depending on what you're looking for but it's a college so it's expected. read more

The Matador Bookstore is one of the centerpieces of the university where most of the textbooks are sold and apparel for everything sports, scrubs, school supplies etc.. is readily available. I dropped by to see the old store where I did purchased a sweatshirt in the 90's and it is still extremely overpriced and expensive. I don't know what their pricing justifications but for students who are dependent on their parents, loans and scholarships, how can they even afford such items? How can you expect the university to advertise or even promote the college, if their students can't even afford the school shirts? It's been going on too long and I hope the Board of Trustees look at their pricing schemes and consider reasonably lowering the affordability of their apparels? The only think I appreciate are the staff who have all been nice and friendly, the isles are well kept, clean and very organized, too. In all, the apparels are just beyond the pockets of the majority. Shame! Really! read more

Service was great and man what a impressive store.. but damn, the PRICES are simply ridiculous! Half our student population is "food Insecure" yet if we want to show some school spirit we will need to cannibalize our already meager food budget I guess. Education and Capitalisms boundaries collide here at the CSUN student store. The Service is good and the students working there are great, fantastic layout but again those prices will set you back a paycheck.. Consider lowering them for the love of god its embarrassing... I like campus stores, especially really good ones like this one. This campus store is really big compared to some of the ones I've seen . They have the typical school apparel and school accessories that you need for classes. I thought the prices though for the clothes were outrageous, but if you want a school t-shirt showing their logo, what you gonna do?!?! They did have a sale rack which was great, but the leftover sizes and styles were so-so. I didn't see a dressing room though. The student who assisted us at checkout was really nice. read more

My husband ordered his books online for class. A couple days later, 2 out of the 3 books said "Ready for pickup." The third book said "back ordered, will ship soon." He Waited for the status to change but nothing happened. He called the next day and was told that the books weren't ordered and if he wants them to place the order. It was so bizarre and we were so annoyed. A couple days later we went in and picked up the 2 books. The only reason I am rating this a 3 star is because they offer curbside pickup during covid, which is great! read more

CSUN's campus store. Staff's friendly, but there are days where they seem understaffed, and it can get pretty busy up in here. They don't have as much school/office supplies as I'd hope they would either =/ But they do have plenty of school logo-ed items, some that are pretty unique too! read more

Every college bookstore in existence (probably) is going to be expensive in terms of textbooks. Go figure, right? If they sold books at a more reasonable price, maybe everyone would buy it from them instead of online, but whatever. Go figure. The reason for my high rating is because I actually do really like the bookstore. It's kind of like a mini store, full of knick knacks & crap, apparel & other stuff you don't really need but is kind of fun to browse. Yes, they have your typical scantrons and whatnot, but there's also other kind of cool stuff. I would give it more like a 3.5 out of 5. Staff is ok, though not generally overly friendly. As a student, this bookstore is not what I hoped for. They have supplies that you can always find, but when it comes to the actual books for your classes, that's where I have problems. First, it's way too expensive. CSUN tuition is already way too much (gets more expensive every year) and the books are too! I've had one semester that I had 6 classes and each book cost around 100 dollars. That's 600+ including tax and all. With the economy as it is and the amount of students who can BARELY afford to go here, I find that insane. Not once have I used that bookstore and said to myself "Wow, that was really affordable". Second, unless you order online, buying books there when the semester starts is insane. The line is way too long. Lastly, you can sell your books back here, but you don't get much out of return. Kinda pointless. Honestly it's either go here or find you're books online somewhere else. So you don't have much of a choice. read more

I hate this place...lets just say they love to rip you off and take all your money. However when you want to ever sell back a book they'll give you not even half of what you paid for. -.- Oh and don't even try to sell back a loose leaf book no matter how much you paid for it because they won't buy it back...avoid this place if you can. The CSUN bookstore is set up very well and has a lot of apparel to buy weather it be sweatshirts or alumni shirts. As for the books for your classes, I would recommend buying them through an online site or from other people to save money. If you do decide to buy them from the book store however, go in a week or two in advance with the list of books you need and buy them directly from the store. They have the books organized in alphabetical order so they are easy to find. DO NOT pre-order them online as you will have to wait forever in line when picking them up on the first few days like many others who do and sometimes, they do not even come in on time. Other than the long line when picking up books, this is a great place to get those everyday college needs like scantrons or notebooks and is filled with active and helpful workers. read more

Horrible customer service, and they do not stand by their return policy. One guy working there was very rude, and would not explain to me why the item I purchased was not able to be returned, even though I even printed out a copy of their return policy from their website and kindly asked where my item would fall under their own policy. Will not be buying from here unless it's the absolute last resort. I'm a first year student here and wish someone would have told me, but DO NOT buy ebooks/textbooks/ and access codes from here. read more

Let be honest no one expects to get good deal for books that you are buying from university campus bookstore. There is reason why Amazon exist but unfortunately sometimes you have no choice when professor writes his/her book and it only get sold by campus bookstore. Unless you must buy from on campus bookstore, go online and shop around. Chances are good you will find the book for much cheaper price. Also whatever you do, do not buy any electronics from them. They are overprice, some up to the point of $1,000. This is state university and you would think they would not try to rip off the students, unfortunately that is not the case. read more

Horrible customer service. They are helpless. The supervisor was unwilling to resolve a very simple request. I called several times asking for help and they refuse to release a cap and gown to my friend, who brought my ID and the receipt with the order number, and had me on the phone while he was there trying to get my cap and gown. They told me over the phone that for my own security they cannot give my friend my gown. Who is going to steal a cap and gown?...these people are ridiculous!!!!!! read more

Quick service even during the first couple weeks of school. Most of the staff members try to be friendly by asking about your day and things of that nature. Yes, prices of everything are a tad bit ridiculous, but that's expected of any school's bookstore. They sell anything from books to clothes to tylenol. I find it convenient to come here if I need anything because it is located right in the middle of CSUN as well as having a number of different options for lunch right around it. Too bad they don't sell snacks though. read more

I ordered my books on Aug. 21 for two day shipping and they are still not here. The earliest they are going to be here in next Tuesday which is 5 business days after I ordered them. I need my books for the first day of my classes and I will not have them. read more

If you want a good deal on books go to half.com or amazon, and I can almost guarantee you will find them 10-50% cheaper for the most part, and any software or computer equipment buy it from B and H. I am just looking out to save you some money and hassle. I ordered a piece of equipment from the matador bookstore last spring, and the employee gave me the wrong equipment. Not sure if the deal is the same for fall or spring semesters but I'll talk about the summer rip-off. Ordered one book for a Mon-Wed class on May 22, and apparently they are offering a pickup option due to COVID-19 where they take your order to your car from 10 am to 2 pm. The order is ready by 3 pm so for my own protection I wait until Tuesday the 26 because Monday is Memorial Day. Everything good so far, but then I end up dropping the class Thursday the 28 and go that same day at 3 pm to return the book because I no longer need it (the last day to rerun books being the 28) but turns out the store is closed. Nowhere in the emails or rental agreement did it say the only store hours were from 10-2, but rather that those were the hours when the pick up option was available. I call today the 29 explaining the situation and they say they can't give me my money back because they only had a 2 day return period (when the last day to change classes is June the 5th??), but that if I'm not going to use the book to "give it back", of course to rip somebody else off. Lost money just like that while an economic crisis is going on, what a robbery. read more

Ordered my books on Monday, and opted for 2 day shipping, which costed an additional $27.00. They didn't ship it out until Friday. The longest it should've taken them to ship was Wednesday. Because they took an additional 2 days, I will not receive my textbooks until next Wednesday. I'm very disappointed with the lack of timeliness in their shipping. read more

Good selection of CSUN Matador clothing (t-shirts, sweatshirts, etc.) but a very poor selection of books, and course books and textbooks are ridiculously overpriced. Any book can be found for much less on Amazon. read more
