Slipping a small trade paper of Terry Pratchett or a small copy of Little women used to be so convenient-rather than shelling out 20-30 dollars for a display piece that's bulky to carry around. The owner was also as helpful and sweet as humanly possible. He showed me right where I needed to be, and even helped me dig through the shelves to find if he had that one special edition of the secret garden he remembered having. Alas- it turned out he sold it a little while back. But all the same he was the kindest soul and most importantly had the passion in his eyes and heart for books that I look for walking into any book store, used or new. I've discovered some fantastic books through "Surprise Reads," so I was excited to see they had a section dedicated to them. The staff were super friendly and helpful. They helped me look for a series (The Telesa or Covenant series) that I am trying to get. Unfortunately they didn't have the series but hopefully in the future. The burger was well prepared, juicy, not over cooked, tasty and skillfully constructed. What stood out was the thick fresh moist tomato that imparted flavor with every bite. How many shows did I go too? well, only one because I live in DLTA so most shows happen where I live, so I rarely wanted to drive 45 mins to San Fernando. My second trip was for a night market around the holidays with my wife, and my third trip was last week for the Final 818 Day show. I arrived a little late to the show and walked in during Human Garbage and the night was truly magical from that point on. With a lineup that consisted of Internal Affairs, Piece by Piece, Carry On, Twitching Tongues, and God's Hate, I can safely say this was probably one of the best shows I've ever been too and something I'll remember for years to come. The atmosphere at this shop is positive, violent, and full of heart in the best way. The sound at this shop was dope (minus the frequent mic issues) and each set was perfect. I've been actively going to shows since 2003 and the fact that in 2026 I was finally able to see Carry On play, is something I will absolutely never forget, let alone that I got to see them play a small show instead of Sound and Fury Fest. Overall, The Midnight Hour Records was the best thing San Fernando had to offer and it's a shame that the city didn't do everything it could to keep it there. The downtown area is absolutely dead and this place gave it a bit of life that will sorely be missed. They used to be across the street but…read morenow moved to this new location at the Grove Shopping Center where the old David Bridal used to be. When I walked inside, they had the animatronics Halloween characters right there. I went to the toddler selection on the right side of the store to look for things I can get my daughter. I saw a nice Minnie mouse bucket for candy so that's what I got her. The price was reasonable in my opinion for a Disney character. I walked around the store to look at what they have here. They have less animatronics than last year and there no haunted train. The parking situation is fine here because it's inside a plaza. Customer service was great when I was inside the store and went to pay.

Behind Denny's, Total Wine, Floyd's Barber Shop, and Aldi (among others) off Tampa Avenue just before the Nordhoff Street and Tampa intersection (across from the Northridge Fashion Center). This Spirit Halloween has a good amount of parking in a shared lot and a generously spacious layout inside. The displays are fun and of course, has the store's signature bright fluorescent lighting rather than a little more Halloweeny feel like Halloween Town (in Burbank)... but it's a chain thing #InTheSpiritofSpiritHalloween I stopped in to browse the inventory as well as pick up a prop I ordered a week or so ago that they had called to remind me about the day before. While the inventory is pretty varied for jewelry, props, decorations, and more in a lot of things they definitely have limited sizing for popular costumes in-store, though you can order something online (get that 20% off one item - current sale for online and/or in-store purchase) which I'd assume can be transferred from other locations or shipped directly to this store/location. Pick-up orders are almost seamless!! Samantha and the manager on duty (I'm guessing ) by how incredibly knowledgeable she was we're super helpful and thorough. I waited less than a few minutes and had my order number and ID ready to make things even easier for them. They're open until 9PM every day and until 7PM on Sundays. Time to get in the spirit of Halloween!
