Classic French Toast & Hot Latte
    Debbie O.

The French toast is perfectly moist on the inside, hot latte is nice. The London Fog is delicious even when made "less sweet" on request. Friendly service, which seems to improve each year! Bathrooms are clean!!! Some really nice art on the walls by local artists, capturing truly local sights. They have expanded their group activities and games for customers. I love their concept, and they have managed to execute it very well.

I was looking for a place to do some work and this place was the perfect spot. They have plenty of seating options which made it easier to get my work done. I was happy to see their coffee/latte selection, and they not only have pastries, but they also serve salads, sandwiches and all-day breakfast items like breakfast burritos! Plus they have plenty of games to choose from if you're looking for something to do while you sip your coffee and eat. I ordered my usual flat white latte (yum!) and we shared a pesto sandwich (double yum!). Super fun coffee shop worth checking out!

Their coffee drinks were spot on. Well balanced lattes. People are super nice and the atmosphere is very friendly. If you like games this is a good place to meet with friends and get together for a campaign. Dungeons & Dragons is fun and there are many other RPG games also. You can bring your own, borrow one here or buy one to go. Great place to hang with friends with many choices of food and beverages! Definitely worth a look.

Dominic is a gem! He just embodies a welcoming coffee-shop feel that makes you feel like a regular. We got a Bard latte & Misty Step Latte. The Bard was so good (we did it with almond)- 10/10. The Misty was also good, I think I just expected a little more vanilla, it was very lavender-y. Otherwise, everything was delicious and fresh. We had a great time exploring the store and trying new items. I definitely overlooked this place, but I'm so glad I stopped in. Will definitely return again. Dominic, thank you for your patience and kindess with us, as we were super indecisive and took up so much time. You're the best!

Such a fun place! Everyone that worked there was so kind and nice. We walked in and went to the cafe counter and ordered a cold brew and a lemonade and once our friends met us we ordered a crepe, hot honey tots, and a grilled cheese. Everything was so good and we had gone a little before closing on Saturday night and it was so chill and not overly crowded. The employee behind the games counter explained how to play the game Azul which I've always wanted to play and was super kind and helpful. A great place to hang out, play games, and enjoy a drink or a snack 10/10 would recommend

I've always heard great things about this place! We finally decided to drop by on a Monday morning on the way to work. We parked on the small street next to it and there were like 3 people in there and 1 worker. I hopped in line and looked at their menu briefly. This place is much bigger than I expected! It looks like a really cool hobby shop and I hear it gets pretty busy here with open mic and other events. I ordered the iced horchata latte which came out almost immediately! I was very surprised at how quickly he made it. Their lids are a bit "annoying" because there's a plastic flap so whenever you touch your straw, it makes a really "nails on chalkboard" sound lol. The drink was good though! It's rare to find a good horchata latte nowadays. It was creamy and delicious, wish it had cinnamon to it, even just a little bit but otherwise it was great compared to some other ones I've had. This place is huge!! They have another big room that you can walk into as well. Tons of seating which is nice. Lots to look at as well. Definitely coming back to try their other drinks soon! Love the whole theme and vibe to this place. IG: @ammysalamii

I have driven past this place many times and never thought too much about it other than I thought it was cool to have a spot for games/drinks for those into that. Never expected it to be so popular and busy. Came here on a Thursday night for open mic, my daughter and boyfriend performed a few songs and I was so impressed, it was her first time and she did amazing, I don't think I could ever do that, proud of her. The place was packed with people hanging out, eating, drinking, playing games, watching the show, etc. it was a great time. The MC did a great job and so did the various performers. I would like to come back when they have another open mic night, it was fun and I tried a BJ Blonde Pale Ale that was pretty good as well. This is a small local business, which it is much bigger inside than expected, but go support them and have a fun night out. Enjoy!

I could get used to a place like this! I came here to get myself a white mocha before I started my training at my new job. Ryan, did really good job at ringing me up. As for the vibe, it gives a very nerdy atmosphere around here. I for one, could really enjoy coming here. Game N Grounds, I will definitely be coming back when I'm in the area! Thank you.

What a treasure! Needed a spot to work at near a friend's house and ended up with three unique games to gift my sister. They have large tables for board game lovers to congregate.

I really like the concept of this place. It's different and unique. I love that they are keeping old school board games alive with a fun space to play them. They have so many games you can play or bring your own. It's a cozy setup. You can sit inside or outside. They have food and coffee. All the employees I interacted with were very friendly. They even brought our dogs a water bowl while we sat outside on the patio with them. I haven't been in quite a while. I ordered the same drink that I had bought when I used to go more often. It was a chocolate banana shake with a shot of coffee. It was delicious. However when I saw the total of my one drink I was shocked. It was almost $11 and it was so small. I would say for $11 I got what was equivalent to a Starbucks small Frappuccino. It was gone so fast. If the prices were lower I would go way more or if I felt like I was getting $11 worth of a drink. The tater tots I got were $11. That I can stomach paying for more. So even though I love supporting local small businesses I just don't want to pay those prices. I definitely won't be a regular.

Didn't think I would enjoy a board game with my coffee. Great way to spend a nice chill Saturday night game night with a good coffee! Love the ambiance! Coffee is pretty good

What a fantastic find! I had a client meeting here and it was really delightful. I'm not even a gamer, but I could definitely see coming here with friends or a date for a fun afternoon or evening. At this time, they're doing some work on their kitchen, and though I wanted something more savory I had a strong feeling towards the pumpkin muffin in the pastry case. Which is weird, because I don't actually like pumpkin. But this thing was delicious... fresh tasting and not overwhelming in the PSL kind of way. Coffee is also very good and I love the mugs. Tables are large enough for a meeting or a board game session. Everyone was so friendly and welcoming. I absolutely recommend!

Ask the Community - Game N Grounds

Is there any gluten free options?

We carry Gluten free bread, when able, that can be used with any of the sandwiches...also our tater tots are gluten free as well. We have Dom surprise salad on the menu too.

No phone number?? That's very odd for a business.

Not sure why there's no number on Yelp but on google its 818-818-6560. This place rocks!

Anyone know what's in their tater tot dipping sauce? It's SO good id love to make my own at home

Depends on which sauce you ordered? Was it pesto, bbq aioli or jalapeño sauce?

Are you allowed to bring your own board game?

    Yes! Just no outside food.

What time is last call for the kitchen?

Kitchen usually closes 45 minutes before closing time.

Are their games available to play or do we bring our own?

They have games they "rent out". Just give them an id to borrow a game and they'll give it back when you return the game. They also have games for purchase in case you're interested!

Is this a good place to study, are there outlets?

It's a great place to study. I've gone there to do work. Yes there are outlets, but you have to find a table that has one as I'm not sure if every single table has a dedicated outlet.

It remains a unique addition to the neighborhood, as well as a good place to grab some interesting dishes. Since the opening of this particular business, the Zinc chain has opened in a few other locations. Those locations are much newer in not only their establishment but their design. This is not to say that this is still not an interesting, well-designed business, but, with time, it has become a little bit rundown. I hate to say it, but that is the truth. This location could really use an update and perhaps a deep cleaning. I was, in fact, kind of surprised at the condition of this business, for example, on the way towards their restrooms. From my opinion, it needs an clean up and an update. Also, the litter that surrounded some of the outdoor tables where I was sitting at my most recent visit was very surprising. This is just something to keep in mind if you're coming here for your first visit. In terms of what they offer for food, though it has evolved a bit over the years, they still have a great, heath-based menu, with some very interesting choices. For all of you vegetarians and vegans out there, you will, for sure, be able to find some tasty food to eat. Once upon a time, this restaurant was impacted with tons and tons of people. It was constantly full with people either going to the bakery and/or sitting down for table service. Shortly past their opening each day, there would be a line of people waiting for service. This seems to have changed, however. Meaning, if you're looking for an interesting place to eat, with some good dishes, at the far Southeast side of DTLA, near the lofts district, and you want a place without a long wait to get a table and/or your food, this may still be your place to go.

We could understand that it was busy but the waitress never apologized or said anything like they were understaffed or anything. Also, we had a few questions about the menu and our drinks and the waitress would just say, "I think so?" or give a vague answer. She didn't seem very knowledgeable about the menu at all. Maybe she was new, but clearly training was lacking. I don't think I'll be returning but since I see many reviews relating to service issues, hopefully management is able to address the deficit

The biscuits were super light and went extremely well with the butter-like spread along with the cured ham! The cucumber appetizer was also excellent and super refreshing for a warm summer afternoon! This was also served with slices of super fresh toast. Thse soft shell crab was excellent as it was lightly fried and served over a bed of super fresh vegetables! The hen of the woods mushrooms dish was also a standout dish served over some polenta cakes which were also excellent! The hanger steak was decent and may have been the weaker dishes for lunch. The barramundi entree was perfectly cooked with super crispy skin along with a moist interior. Ended off lunch with dessert which was also excellent! Parking may be trickier within the Arts District. Parking right outside the district may be the answer! ~$65/head after tax and gratuity for lunch.

Very nice setting with patio seats in a museum…read more The menu changes based on the season. I enjoyed the pork toro with mixed greens and fruits. The service was attentive and the place was almost full during a Tuesday lunchtime.
