I wanted to provide an updated review based on our recent experiences. We've worked with Pilar, who handles all of the communication, while different members of her team come to do the cleaning. One challenge is that it isn't always the same cleaners, and the quality has been inconsistent. Some visits have been great, while others have fallen short, which has been frustrating. The biggest issue, however, has been scheduling. I want to extend grace because cleaning homes is physically demanding work, and I understand that delays can happen. That said, the arrival times have consistently been several hours later than the scheduled window. If you decide to use Pilar's service, I'd recommend planning for the cleaners to arrive three or more hours after the time you're given. While we've had some positive experiences, the inconsistency in both the cleaning quality and scheduling has made it difficult to rely on the service. read more

If I could I would give this company 0 stars. I initially hired the company for a deep cleaning July 2021. Not a regular cleaning but DEEP cleaning. My home is not filthy , however I like having my baseboards , inside my appliances and windows cleaned. You cannot get the add-ons with a regular cleaning. In July , Pilar sent 3 people on time and it took 2 hours . I text Pilar in late September for another deep cleaning and asked her how much. She said it would be the same price I paid last time. I scheduled the cleaning for October 9th 11:30am. Pilar sent 2 people at 11:58am. They "completed " the job at 2:20pm. I noticed my windows were dirty, the master bathroom floor was dirty, appliance were not wiped down, and one of the rooms was not vacuumed well. When I pointed these problems out , Pilar text me with an attitude saying "your house is hard to clean." Not understanding what she meant , I called her. She started going off about her people being late for another appointment and she had to cancel. What does that have to do with me?????????? Then she charged me an extra $50 !!!! I asked her why she said because I should have made an appointment within 1 month of my last appointment . Do you all read the deception and deflection here ???? Do not use Pilar's services. Terrible treatment of customers. Broken English in all communications with them. The cleaners who showed up said they were going to go get a bottle of Windex and then never came back. Not cool. I don't usually write reviews, however I had a very bad experience and want to warn others. I hired them to come help me with packing my apartment up for a move, but they arrived over an hour later than the agreed upon time. They started packing, however they were packing heavy items into a large sized box, so I instructed them to pack them into small to medium size boxes, so they wouldn't break upon moving. Instead of listening to my instructions, she had such a hostile attitude towards me, repeatedly asking me "show me how you want me to do it then?!" I repeated my request nicely, but she still had such a nasty attitude towards me. At that point I knew that she would be difficult to work with, gave her half an hour's worth of pay (she was only here for maybe 10mins) and politely asked to leave. I've been using Pilar's Cleaning for over a year now and have been very pleased with their service. The quality of cleaning is excellent and at a reasonable cost and always done properly with care. I have hardwood floors, stainless steal appliance so can see the level of detail in their cleaning. I have a one bedroom condo and have scheduled cleaning services 2x month, so the cleaning is fairly frequent. I don't have any issues unlike some of the other reviews, so would highly recommend Pilar's for a first try and judge for yourself. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY! The customer service is awful. I have used there services multiple times and every time the cleaners are late. Today I had an appointment at 11am and they didn't arrive until 12:30. Also, I've always paid $90 for my 1br and when I made the payment I received a text that the price changed. It is responsibility of the company to inform the client if there has been a change in price. Also, the audacity to text me about $10 when you screwed up my appointment time because you texted the wrong staff number. I thought I was getting a bargain but this isn't worth it. I decided to contact Pilar about cleaning services, despite some negative reviews. I needed a deep cleaning and her prices seemed fair. Pilar was easy to communicate with via text. The three ladies arrived right on time and also finished within the estimated time. My condo was left sparkling clean...and it needed it! One of my bathtubs had an extremely slow drain and I forgot to fix it before they came, so I know that may have been a bit of a struggle cleaning it, but it came out perfectly. I've used bigger name companies in the past that were almost double the price and half the quality. Stay away from this company. They've come to clean for me for a while now and there are often issues. Small things that are annoying but not the end of the world. Pilar has called me 'picky' in the past for pointing tea things out, which I never appreciated, but chose to ignore. This past time however they stuffed all of my king-sized bed linen in 1 of my silk pillowcase and it burst like a sausage. They also used some type of metal scrubber on my toilets and ruined 2 of them. She is refusing to replace the bedding, saying that it must have been old and they said they didn't do anything. Booked Pilar's cleaning through Amazon for a deep cleaning. Communication prior to the visit was great and the owner answered my call right away. They called me when they arrived and got right to work. The ladies arrived on time and did a great job cleaning my apartment. We had not had cleaners in since we moved in and the place was a total mess. I am especially amazed at the work they put in on the bathroom. There were stains on the tub that are now gone! Schedule changed on the morning only after I contacted the owner to confirm, however they arrived 10 minutes earlier than the new time with an additional worker (3 instead of 2) and finished in less time than booked. Always late. Very rude communication with costumers and incredibly unprofessional. I have dealt with a few instances where Pilar has been super rude. Cleaning services could certainly be better (for example, they never take note of where things are placed and when they move them, everything is completely out of place.) You can tell they don't take the time fully dust and clean everything off as I always find spots they missed all over tables, counters, fridge, etc. There have been times the cleaning crew has not shown up and there are many excuses she uses. She will try and get every dime out of you and not keep in mind friendly customer service. If you want to deal with being verbally abused via text on a regular basis (I'm talking 9 text messages in a row being incredibly disrespectful within 3 minutes), Pilars cleaning service is for you. Letting a stranger, even one with reviews, is an odd experience and one I was not that eager to take. However, given that I wanted my several hundred dollar deposit back, I figured a cleaner would be a good investment. I found Pilar's Cleaning Service after a brief online search and comparison. She was quick to reply to my initial text although she was a bit slow sometimes on following texts, granted because she was busy working. Still after some initial confusion, she came over today and cleaned the place. I came back to my old apartment expecting some things to be missed and turn into my problem but wow, everything was spotless. Clean floor, clean tub, clean oven, clean microwave; you name it, it was clean. This is the best kind of surprise. I strongly recommend Pilar and will definitely contact her for future cleanings and refer her to my friends that have such needs. Oh, it was $80 for a studio. I don't know if that is supposed to be expensive but I found it reasonable compared to what others were telling me (generally 100+) for cleaning the same place. read more

I had used Pilar's cleaning services for the past few months. The cleaning crew is nice enough, and I provided an extra star to the rating because they did a decent job the few times they came. There were a couple of times where my schedule would change and I couldnt leave my key at the front desk and thats where things turned bad and unprofessional. In looking at other reviews, I had similar experiences of last minute cancellations. Without getting into the entire story, the most recent appointment cemented that I would never use this cleaning service again. My schedule changed last minute due to a funeral. We messaged the night before the appointment regarding the change in my schedule and agreed on the timing of when the cleaners would stop by and after that time if they werent there I would leave the key at the front desk. Pilar called me 30 minutes early and said her cleaners needed in immediately. I said I would be back in 5 minutes (25 minutes before the agreed upon time) and that was not acceptable to her. In follow up messages she proceeded to blame me for ruining her crews entire day. At 8:30 when they had not arrived I followed up via text w the opener and after 15+ mins the owner finally located her team and they arrived at 8:59 walking into the home and leaving the front door wide open, not even bothering to close it after themselves. The cleaning job they did was spotting, picking and choosing which parts of the house got vacuumed and cleaned. I had to go through and point out all the areas they missed. To their credit, they did then clean them after I pointed them out. I had agreed on a deep clean with the owner but they refused to clean the refridge or oven saying that was for move out only. I started out with Groupon as well. That one time they did a great job but since then, I have had issues with the quality of the cleaning and also with their scheduling. Almost every time there has been a problem keeping the original appointment. I'm flexible but I like to know that things will happen when scheduled so I can set it up and forget about it. While searching for home cleaners on Craigslist - and calling them to get rates - I found Pilar's Cleaning and decided to take a chance on them. In my past experiences, cleaning companies would always start out great: cleaning every square inch of your home. But then weeks down the line, they'd start "missing" spots and doing a very perfunctory job. But not Pilar's Cleaning; from day one until OVER A YEAR later, they've been AMAZING! Their cleaners are friendly, humble (meaning if i point out a spot they missed, they take care of it right away without eye-rolling or exasperated breathing!) and CONSISTENT! They clean my place about once a month (sometimes in 3 weeks if things get really dirty) and they are never late. Their rates are worth every penny! Late the night before our next day 8 am appointment, they called to say we'd have to pay them extra if we wanted them to use their cleaning supplies - this wasn't part of the 2 hr Groupon deal. When they came we told them what we wanted them to clean and the priority given the 2 hr deal limit (floors mopped & bathroom cleaning first). Instead they did what they wanted. They never mopped any of the floors and focused on vacuuming and dusting--something I can/regular do easily myself & didn't need to pay for with a Groupon purchase. I purchased a Living Social deal, and called the company...unprofessional. A cell phone with no greeting. Not even a professional greeting. How do I know who I am calling? I then proceeded to call again, spoke with a woman who was impolite and told me to send a text. I sent a text, she asked if I had a promotion or needed an estimate. Once I told her that I have a Living Social deal, the communication line just dropped. Since then, I was trying to get an appointment and kept getting the run around with potential dates, but no confirmed date/time. I decided to tell the person who I was texting that I'm canceling if I cannot get a date/time. Magically, I get a response saying the phone was left in the car (yeah right). When I first moved to Alexandria, I was looking for a one-two time a month housecleaning service and I found Pilar's Cleaning ad in the laundry room. For my one bedroom, two cat apartment, I was charged $75 for a once a month service and I was very happy with the quality. I would schedule a visit and within two days, Pilar would come by and it was ALWAYS the same procedure. The keys AND check would be left in my mailbox and when she arrived, she would give her license in exchange for the key and take the check. I never had any problems. Until this past cleaning. I scheduled my once a month and did the same thing - keys and check in mailbox. They usually used my vacuum cleaner in my apartment and the larger of the two was not working properly. There was something stuck in the roller that morning and since I did NOT have time to fix it at that moment, I left a note that read, "Something is wrong with the vacuum suction. Can you check? Otherwise, use the second, smaller vacuum." When I came back home that nite, the vacuum was gone and with my usual good experience, I assumed maybe it had been taken to get fixed. I thought, "Wow, what service. I'll be sure to add in a special thank you in the next cleaning check." A few days later, I received a text from Pilar claiming that I did not pay her staff. She had a emergency in her "home country" and she was not able to clean my apartment personally and instead, sent her other employees. I always assumed she had employees but I was surprised that they were able to get the keys, YET did not "receive" the check, which was WITH the keys. I told Pilar that I was on a work trip but I would check when I returned. I also asked her about the vacuum and she said her employee told her the vacuum was broken and in the trash. I was upset - I never said to throw away the vacuum and told her this but she didn't seem to care about anything other than her $75. She claimed that they got the keys by giving the front desk their license and got their license back but without the check. She blamed the front desk. I then said she would need to reimburse me for the vacuum cleaner and then suddenly, she said that she had the vacuum cleaner and they were going to fix it. I was confused. I asked her why she lied about the vacuum being in the trash and then suddenly, she has the vacuum and she came up with a story that she immediately called her employee and that's when she found out the vacuum was fine and she would get it back. She continued to ask me for the next two days, despite my traveling for work and when I finally did return, I asked all the front desk staff here in the building and no one knew what she was talking about - they always follow the same procedure with my keys and check. Pilar continued to blame the front desk - again, first saying they were never given the check to then the story that the girl was new and didn't know anything. She started telling me that I didn't understand the emergency she had, completely missing the point that the check was written and left for her employees who claimed never to have received it. She then decided to "hold my vacuum for ransom" and would not give it back until I paid her. I told her that for canceling the check, I was charged $35 and she would need to reimburse me for that, as well. That's when she started to get even more unreasonable, accusing me of lying and not paying for services rendered (not her word, of course). She would keep the vacuum, not pay the cancellation fee, and then told me I caused too many problems when every month, I not only paid her but gave her a huge cash bonus in the beginning. Her story changed all the time from no check to new front desk staff. When I told her I was sick of this back and forth and her verbal abuse AND threats, she said she wanted cash. After all this, I was still going to pay her and she demands cash? I told her no, I wanted record of payment and yet, she again asked for my keys to drop off the vacuum. Really? Trust her after this? Her husband stopped by on a holiday and brought my vacuum and it was so clean, it looked. Although he was apologetic, when I told him I don't trust her employees, he said, "we don't either" and proceeded to explain that the employee claimed that the note on the vacuum said to throw away so she decided to take it and clean it and keep it for herself. He claimed they fired her and Pilar wanted me to giver her another chance. It's one thing that I can't or supposedly, they can't trust their other staff but she actually accused me of not paying and then blamed everyone else, harassing me and stealing from me. I don't want anything to do with her or her services. STAY AWAY FROM PILAR'S CLEANING IF YOU VALUE YOUR HOME, GOODS, VALUABLES....and PEACE OF MIND. read more

She will not do a thorough job and sometimes she will just send her girls who would barely understand English or do their job properly. Highly disappointed.
