Okay, it's a dive, I get it, but sometimes I have to wonder what's going on here. They have a good bar and great bartenders. The bouncers are a bit obnoxious, but that can happen. Clean-ish bathrooms, maybe better than you'd expect, maybe not, depends on the night. Pool tables, peanuts, booze, and live music is what you'd expect. Except it's not. Sometimes, you really have to wonder who chooses the bands and artists that perform here. It's an eclectic group to be sure, and some of them are so ridiculous you wonder if they play because they're cheap/free/friends of the employees. It's an okay place to hang. Again, not terribly amazing, but if you hit the live music jackpot, it's a great dive. If not, drink up, shut up, or just keep on walking. read more

We stopped in here yesterday for a quick pint of beer before we headed over to Escondido. Classic dive bar with great computer jukebox. Peanuts on the floor plenty of beer-on-tap options I counted 3 pool tables and a view of the Ocean and enough windows for a nice breeze coming through. Prices were perfect! I went in to use the bathroom. As I walked in the bartender (a small man, with small man syndrome I would discover), asked me quite directly what type beer I wanted. I said, "first I need to go to the bathroom". I barely got the words out of my mouth and he was shaking his head no. "You need to buy a beer", he said. I said," well I won't right now, but when I return,(from the bathroom and/or quick walk on the pier to shoot a couple pics), he again was shaking his head no. Then said, " I hear that a lot". So, he was assuming I was a liar I guess. I guess he's used to people wanting to relieve themselves before sitting down, or even knowing if they will or not. SO, he jumps the gun on the issue immediately. This is not a welcoming scenario. He had 3 customers in there at the time, and one guy smoking, halfway out the door. The place smelled of something rotten. I was dismayed to say the least, so I headed for the door in disbelief. I stopped and turned around , and said " I am not buying a beer or anything else here, ever." Ever ! So, he jumped into high gear and whisked his way over to me, (leaving from behind the bar), ( I have one foot out the door) and went right to my face and said, "listen, I am going to explain something to you". This was a direct confrontational move, designed to see how I would react. I said, "I know, you probably have bums come in here and use the bathroom and buy nothing". He said," no I don't let bums in here either". I couldn't believe what was happening. I had to decide to attack first, as I thought this was his next move, or walk away. (the guy in the door may have been his crony, and he was at my back now, so I started walking). "This is Private Property he says. As I was walking away he said something like, "that's what I thought". I couldn't believe this was happening. What kind of business man is this? I returned, with "what a punk". Next, he's calling me back. "Get back here he says" ..WTF? He does... want to fight. As I said, there was 3 people in there. Now I know why. The smell, and the attitude, and the nerve of such a pathetic operator. I think it may be his place, or he's just one stupid, stupid manager bartender or something. I can see why all the bad reviews previous to this. I would suggest you go to a class joint right across the street at the Wyndham if you want to relax and have a drink. Or better yet, do what I ended up doing and going to the end of the pier , for the view, and relax at Ruby's Diner, with a burger and beer. Don't patronize some "punk run" crappy bar . I will surely tell everyone I know to stay away. That's about 150 motorcyclists, and maybe 10 friends in cars, who will probably tell that to their friends. I am sure this place will not last with whoever this little turd is in there bartending. Check all previous reviews on the drinks etc. Bad Business. Who chases a guy with money right out the street, just to show the sleaze at the bar, that he's in charge? A complete idiot, that's who. P.S. Decent dive bar in the Oceanside area, though your happy hour pricing is all jacked up. They have happy hour here, Monday through Friday, 4-7pm. $2 domestics, and $4 imports. Well I started off with the Pacifica ($4) and then went with the Racer 5 ($4). Now correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't Racer 5 a domestic, a northern California brew. Sure it has the word "India" on it's label, but that doesn't make it an import. So in other words, you charged me double. But that's the bad side. All others, were pretty decent. Free peanuts, dog friendly, all the patrons were nice and approachable. Great place to hang out for happy hour. They got a couple of pool tables, several tv's and an electronic juke box as well. The staff were engaged with everyone out there. Great location to go pub/bar crawling if required. And you can utilize the free street parking if you happen to be there after 6pm. Other than that, I may or may not come back depending on if I have any legitimate business up here in this neck of the woods. To be honest, I'm not sure if this is even it's name anymore. The place has been revamped and changed so many times it would make Michael Jackson's nose spin. If you're looking for great service, or an upscale bar, don't go here. But, I'm a fan of dive bars with cheap drinks, and this place is exactly what you would expect from a typical dive bar. They have daily specials at cheap prices. You even get a discount if you bring in your own lunch. Head to Colima's across the street, then in here and enjoy your meal with a cheap beer... sounds good to me! I most recently came here with 3 friends and we ordered a pitcher of Coors Light to share. Only $7... finished that one and ordered another pitcher. Total bill came to $14... can't beat that! They also have peanuts at every table... who doesn't love peanuts with their beer?! This is a great dive bar. Peanut shells cover the floor and there is definately a casual vibe to the place. Beer and wine only, but two pool tables, live music and friendly bartenders. Mostly punk and hard rock bands. Good jukebox and a huge selection of beer. very chill spot. Plenty of peanuts to eat and the best part is u just chuck the shell to the floor if u want. They have pool tables there. Crowd was local which was cool. Bartenders are friendly and socialize with you while you are there. The tap selection ranges from bud light to local breweries which is great in my eyes. Ok, so I guess this place USED to be called Bub's Whiskey Dive. There was a huge sign on the wall that said "Bub's Whiskey Dive" so I thought that was the name of the place. Pretty fun. We'd been drinking a bit before we ended up here. Band playing, lots of beers on tap. Pool tables. Nice bartender girl. Some lame-O's but that's the case in most bars. I will probably go back, if in a group and they're all going. This is a good dive bar. No more - no less. 80% of the staff is quite nice - very friendly with good stories. A few bad apples have completely ruined nights for people I know, however. Solid beer selection for a dive, with rotating specials. The last time I was there, Oceanside Ale Works sour was on special for $3.50. I think it was a Blonde the last time I was there, but I cannot recall. There is ample seating amongst the peanut shells. Two pool tables are available, as well, but I have not used them. I've only ever been here for shows, prices ranging from $5-10. There is a closed circuit tv above the stage area so that everyone in the bar can see the bands. I think this is a rad touch. Plenty of parking in a lot across the street. I like the open window atmosphere of the bar. It's a nice touch. Overall, I'm a fan, but I know many who are hesitant to go there. I play by the "just be super friendly to everyone" card and I've never had an issue. read more

Not sure why this is listed and being closed. I walked by there yesterday and it was very much open.

I stopped by this bar on my 21st birthday. I was not pleased with the people most of which were rude, and the bartender didn't seem to care about being speedy to people who aren't regulars. And the seating is limited especially on the weekends. I thought the drink selection was pretty small mostly all beers and ales with no mixed drinks. There is a good juke box with some groovy tunes and a bunch of different genres. The one pool table draws more heated angry drunks than anything, people were constantly debating on who was next in line. They did the typical winner stays on, so it takes a while to get on to the table if you really want to play. The floor has peanut shells all over it which seems to be pretty common in a lot of bars now days but to me it just came off some what dirty. Didn't look like they had ever been swept up. The male to female ratio was about 10:1 probably because you are near Camp Pendleton so it draws a lot of Marines. Once you leave the bar you can always go for a walk to the Oceanside Pier which is really close and there are also a few other bars along the street that you can hit up. The positive thing about this bar was that there was no cover charge and if you go for your 21st birthday then the first drink is on the house. Overall the bar made me feel unwelcome and out of place but had some good tunes and a great location. read more

I just moved to Oceanside a few months ago , and I found this Gem of a Dive Bar, there is a great selection of draft beer, 2 pool tables, a awesome juke box and the best roasted peanuts in a shell that you eat and throw the shells on the floor, I love it, They said they have Live Bands on the weekends but I haven't been there yet for that! And if you get hungry there is the best Mexican food is across the street, bring it in and have a beer and a game of pool! Good times at the beach too!!! read more

Wow I used to LOVE this bar. The bar tender literally JUST ruined it. If someone doesn't tip you, yes, they're an asshole, I get it, I'm a server. Your JOB is to serve the customer is there to drink and they are responsible to pay for what they drank and ate. To be yelled at across the bar for not tipping is an absolute DISGRACE to ANY establishment. Literally the two coolest guys in the bar whom I witnessed tip on each pitcher they ordered were just scolded IN FRONT OF THE ENTIRE BAR for "not tipping" and I quote "I'm not serving either of you two assholes anymore and you know why" dude I'm sorry but you're an absolute embarrassment to the industry. Fantastic dive bar in the heart of downtown. I went on my own recently, while on vacation, and met the bartender, Ray (sp? - sorry if I mis-spelled) and the door person, Scott... they were both awesome and made sure that I had some laughs and a good time. I ventured back the next night, with a friend of mine, and we even had a better time with Scott and Ray...
